Hello Everyone,

I am new to the site. I just signed up yesterday. I found this web page by accident while looking for the calorie count in a banana. I am so glad that I did. I am getting very discouraged. I started working out, walking about 5 weeks ago. I started out slow, three days a week at 2 miles. I did that for two weeks. Three weeks ago I joined the gym and was going three times a week for 30mins. This week I plan on pushing that to four days. The discouragement comes from the fact that I have gained two pounds. I am 5? 4? and weight 248.8, started at 246.8. I am hoping that the food log on this site will help me put my daily calorie intake into prospective. I am 35 and have been at this diet and exercise thing for many unsuccessful years. The only time in the past that weight has come off was thru extreme diet and exercise, and of course it always came back on. This time I am committed to doing it right.

I see so much encouragement and great advice on this site. I really think I can do it this time.

Good luck to everyone and may we all reach our health goals.

I have found that the slim fast DOES curb my hunger---for about four hours or so. It took a while for that to happen, but now it's working like a charm. Plus, the shakes are only like 190 calories, so it's got your breakfast and half of lunch right there :)

Thanks for the welcome, y'all.  :)

HI,

I am new here and I have alot of extra weight on me. It was once baby weight but I cant use that excuse anymore my youngest is a year and a half more then enough time for me to lose the weight I gained with her. But in truth I havent lost the weight from my first child. Back in september we had made plans to go to disneyland in january and so I finally had a relistic goal to work towards. well I lost 15 pounds and then the plans fell thru. Well here we are again have made plans for october to go to disneyland. so I am back in FULL force to lose weight. I know that those plans are not going to fall thru I just paid for the trip LOL. so there is no excuse now. I have a goal of 40 pounds by october. I think that is reasonable.  I am sitting at 236 right now and I want to be under 200 when we go. even if only a pound or four under. I really need support though because the first few weeks I have nothing but moments of weakness. I hope you all dont mind me stopping by alot and asking for support. Thanks so much

Maria

Hi Everyone.  One thing that is a good booster for me is to remember not to just look at my "goal".

Sometimes I forget to realize that I am going to look & feel a lot better, even before I reach goal.

With each mile-stone along the way, we are going to be thrilled with each different size we wear.  We don't have to wait until goal to be happy with our progress.  We are going to notice a huge difference way before we even reach 1/2 way.

So just remember....it's not like we are going to wake up one day, when we are at final goal, and be thrilled as if the whole time we dieted we were the heaviest weight as when we first started, until that final 'goal' day.  (that heaviest start date will be gone long before we ever reach goal)

We'll have been shrinking the whole time and with each mile-stone we are going to be LOVING IT!

I started the site back in mid February. My start weight was 230, I am now at 209. I am already noticing changes in the way I look and feel, and each little thing (like fitting into an 18, when I used to be a 22) is such an encouragement. I have dieted before, but it never stuck. I would loose a few pounds and then just loose my drive, and gain it back(with the help of McDonalds). This time I have made a life change, I am not just going for weight lose, but a real desire to be healthy. I find this a lot more fulfilling. A trip to the doctors office at the beginning of this year more or less is what got me going. I am 27 years old and being told that I need to watch my blood pressure was a wake up call. I had two choices, change my habits or end up on medication. I'm not a fan of being stuck on medication. I have cut out soda completely, even diet soda. I drink about 10 eight ounce glasses of water a day. I exercise 4 to 5 days a week either bridge walking 2.5miles or using my gazelle for 2-3 miles. I start my day with a protein shake in the morning, which is about 190 calories, and then try to eat sensibly through out the day. At night if I want a snack I eat some fresh fruit salad. I also take a multi vitamin, and vitamin C and Flax Seed caplets every day, which is big thing for me as I NEVER was one to take vitamins. I feel so much better already and am so excited and encouraged. Reading the replies from everyone else who is going through similiar situations is so helpful. I also have my best friend who is doing this with me, she has almost the same amount of weight to loose, so we are truely doing this together. In August she and I are taking a vacation together, obviously neither of us will be at our goal by then. But we are both looking forward to where we will be. Good luck to everyone, and whether it is 1 or 100 lbs that you have lost so far, we should all be proud of ourselves.

Wow a lot of new faces here, glad to see you all. Remember this isn't a diet, it is a life change. Diets come and go, and the Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and the like try to keep you there so they can take you $$$. They say they teach you how to eat your own food, but really they want you to fail so you have to come back. Using this site really helps you keep track of your food calories, fiber, and all the other important factors so you can see what you really do eat and learn how to eat healthy. We on this site hand out pats on the back, a tissue if needed hugs and such the best we can, but over all it is YOU that makes it work, YOU have to want it you have to work for it in order for YOU to exceed, and accomplish. When I first started I took it 5 pounds at a time, then it was 3 times a week work out then it was 4 to 5 times a week working out. Then it was a goal of 10 pounds. So far I am down, a little over 75 pounds with about 10 more to hit goal. You will find all the help you need here.

Good Luck To All Of You...And keep up the good work it isn't easy, but it will pay off in the end!!

Well Im new here too. Im glad to see there is a 200 + club. I was looking at some of the other forums and noticed that a lot of the comments were about loosing 2-5 lbs some of these people are less than 120 and I thought I didn't belong here until I found this one. I am at my heaviest weight at 212 and Im very discouraged. I was with my husbands family this past weekend and 3 of my sister-in-laws have had babies within the last 6 months and they all look great. I look like the one who just gave birth and I dont have any kids!  Anyway Im going on vacation with my husband in august and would like to loose about 30 lbs. my plan is to work out at the gym(on the elliptical trainer)  3 days a week and tone at home 3 days a week (crunches and weights). Im also watching what I eat and using the calorie counter on this site. If anyone has any advise Im willing to try about anything.

jewel-I know what your saying. You see these people who only "need" to lose 5 lbs, and you think if I only could be at the weight that theyre at now. its definitely tough to lose weight, it definitely has ups and downs. But it sounds like youve got a good plan ahead of you! Good luck!
#750 fatboy_yoda Jun 06 2007 22:30
At some point your goal will only be 5 pounds away as well.

keep at it!

Have any of you been to or thought about trying overeaters anonymous?  Perhaps your inability to stop eating is because you have an eating disorder.

I'm in OA.  :)  I have binge eating disorder.  It is a phenominal program.

I'd love to join this club.  I've jumping between 215 and 225 lbs for the past several months and I'm sick of it!  It's just hard when you have a lot of weight to lose and feel like you'll never get there.
#753 tickerbell Jun 07 2007 03:20
OOPS....I WISH THOSE WERE MY STATS!!

I made a typo in my last post, my weights are not 158/153/145 (you were all probably hating me....lol)

My weights are 258/253/145  (start/current/goal)
#754 sound4u Jun 07 2007 19:38
I think I would like to have a misposting on my stats too.....You know it had to feel good if only for a second!!

I am battling with myself today.  Day 18 and I am struggling because it is TTOM in the next few days and I always gain weight and I feel like I have an appetite that I just cant satisfy!!

I didnt work out Tuesday because I was so exhausted and on top of it all I am dealing with a stressed out bride to be....(My sister!) on the last week before her wedding on the 16th.  Lots of Chocolate is really sounding good right now.......some days this is the hardest thing that I have ever had to do!!

Question: Does everyone or anyone take off the calories they burn and subtract that you burn extra by working out and then add that in back into your daily calorie intake and eat up to that point? Does that make any since at all? Let's say your normal calorie intake is 2000 you burn off normally 3000 that leaves you with a -1000 calories that you will loose in fat, but you work out and burn off 500 more, do you then eat that 500 calories or a portion of that back? I do sometimes if I had a really good work out only because I am starving later...like today, I walked at lunch for about an our did cardio for 30 min after work, then did abs for about 15 min and my leg muscle work out for another 15 mins. So total I worked out in the gym for an hour and walked for another hour. I am just starving, but I am still only going to eat my normal 2200 calories, I guess I am asking should I eat more of course it will be fruit or veggies or a healthy bar...something along those lines...just trying to get a feel for what everyone else does.

Thanks  = )

Hi! I'm new here too, I just started logging my food, activity and weight on 6/5/07. I'm at 267 right now, definitely the heaviest I've ever been (I just turned 33). Before now, my heaviet was 220, in high school, my lowest was 135 when I was in my mid 20's, and INCREDIBLY active. Lots of major life changes, and a few years later,  and here I am working to lose {even more} weight. My goal is 180. I am 5'4", medium-large frame, and I think I look better with a little extra on me {at 135 my best friend asked me if I was eating, or if something was wrong with me - I just don't look healthy that small}. I am starting out keeping my intake at right around 1000-1200 calories and am doing some crunches and walking a bit - I know I need to excercise more, and that is definitely in the plan, like I said, I'm just getting started {again}. I work as an administrative assistant in a fast-paced office, which leaves me exhausted at the end of the day but I try to at least park a block or two away....so I guess that's the situation as it stands so far....just wanted to introduce myself and say hello and keep up the great work, everyone :)

I want to first say hi to all the newcomers that have posted recently.  :)

I also wanted to share that I started counting calories and exercising last month (May 1st) and today I hit the 20 lbs lost mark.  So exciting!

stinky1, I try like mad to leave a 1000 calorie defecit no matter how much I'm exercising, but sometimes I'll only hit -500 to 750 calories because I'm just having a food day, as in I need more of it.  It's a challenge to me because I don't want to fall back into bad food habits (a lot of salty snacks, sweet snacks, etc) to make up the calories and I refuse to eat meat.  Lately I've been giving up my dairy bit by bit as well.  I'd say if you're hungry, eat - just don't eat the overly starchy veggies.

Hi everyone,
I just started counting calories this week, and am definately loving it.  It reall helps me to see what I am eating, because without writing it down, the food doesn't mean anything to me.  But now it truly does!  I am also in the 200lb club, to be exact 217 @ 5'6" as of last friday (I get to weight in tomorrow, let how for a loss in lbs).  At my heaviest I was 228, and I have managed to keep that off for a 2 years, but haven't truly been successful since then.  My goal is 140 lbs,  which is a long way to go.  But I just can't stand being this heavy anymore.
Well anyway so glad to meet you all, and hope that I can give/get support from this group, so that we all have our OWN success stories!

Hi everyone

Its been a long time since i posted on this board but i thought i would update everyone on how im doing.

So i started out at my highest ever weight around 2 months ago (260lbs). Since then ive lost over 40lbs. Im at the lowest weight ive been since i was 16. Im stoked. None of my pants fit me anymore. Both pairs of jeans that i own hardly stay up anymore. They often fall down when im walking and i have to pull them up before they fall down to my feet. Today i put on a pair of dress pants that i hadnt worn for a while. The last time i did wear them they were tightish and i had to pull them up around my waist for them to do up properly. But today they were around my big fat hips and i could hardly keep them up. Im sooooo happy but ive still got a long way to go. Im aiming for 135lbs.

Ive got a 21st party to go to in 4 weeks and im hoping to lose another 20 -30lbs by then. I think i can do it. Im in the biggest loser challenge and so far im doing very well. I just gota keep it up.

Well good luck to everyone else

Never thought about doing math, and leaving a set calorie deficit, great idea. I think I will try to maintain a 1000 calorie deficit and see if I can make it a little more the next time and see how that works out. I think I do that pretty much with out trying, but really never figured it out daily.

Thanks for the tip!!!
