To be honest, we actually have lost more than that but some the larger total would include folks didnt remain with the thread. I hope we're all here to meet Jan 2009 but if not, it would make a set long term goal an issue especially depending how remain. Another challenge is as we become lower and lower weights, the amount of monthly loss tends to naturally taper off but we still have great potential.
Come January, I definitely will be restarting another "January 2010" thread. My final goal I estimate to be late next year, maybe end. This past Sunday was crazy on the scale - for no change in diet I weighed more and everytime I rechecked that day it got worse. Shouldve kept me off the scale but made me check more. By Monday, my 295 from prior Thursday now was showing 300. Wait, what?! Ive not cheated in the least, no TOM, Wait. Today at weigh in I was 297.5, still a 2.5 gain but again at home I dropped twice finally at 295. Not sure whats going on but ready for it to be fine by next Thursday. |

Thanks for checking in, watchme and wishing you a great July month.
Speaking of seeing numbers as people, Im in an curiousi position number wise. Started at 465 with goal 165. So far Ive lost 165 lbs - same as my goal which means my current physical self now at 300 lbs is the weight of the extra person I was carrying around before starting my diet. When I think of someone carrying me around now yet thats what I was doing then. |

Renaer, Sounds like a swank apartment and a really nice setup for you. Hope you enjoy it. sun123, Yep, I think the same way, as I've lost over 170 lb I think wow! I've lost a large person. I feel for you with unexplained gains. I went to Taste of Chicago in early July and ate some non-diet friendly fare, then there was the 4th of July picnics, then I've been stressed at work and haven't been able to exercise regularly, so I would have expected a gain, but 15 lb? In the course of a week??? I've managed to work 8 of those extra lb off so far. I took long, rambling walks in the countryside with my dog, Spikey, on the 4th, 5th and 6th (8 miles each day, around 3 hours a day) and that was fun. I'm looking forward to doing it this weekend as well. I've found a nice route that involves a US highway shoulder (not a freeway--just a highway), a teensy rural hamlet (I don't even think its incorporated), a gravel road and lots of corn and bean fields on either sides of these roads. It's pretty and soothing, except for the ticks! I got bit by a tick on Saturday and it hurt! I felt a sting on my arm, looked down and there's a tick biting me! So after we get home, I have my partner check me for ticks and I check Spikey. This weekend, I'm hoping to do the long bike ride (20miles) to West Point (a small town in Iowa) and back in the afternoon. The big thing that I'm worried about now is hydration during exercise since I'm kind of a long duration exerciser. I think the hip pack will work better for me than a backpack kind of reservoir since I like the feel of sunshine on my back (gosh, I love tank tops!). For this weekend, I'm just going to take a canteen I already have. At this moment, I'm more concerned about Spikey's hydration needs than mine. When we were doing the walks last weekend, she would decide she needed a break, and lie down in some shade. When I felt she was ready to go on, I'd jingle the leash and she would determine whether she was ready or not. If she was ready, she'd jump up and we'd proceed. If she wasn't ready, she'd roll over on her side and do a dead dog impersonation. It was hilarious. I got some great photos of her on my cellphone. |

Ren, very cool apartment! Sun and aovermy, it's so awesome how much you've lost! I find it very motivating, especially when I think about my excuses not to walk or exercise and then hear all that you've done. There's no way I'd make it 8 miles! Or my dog. They do sell a water thing/bowl that you flip over and pull up so water goes into the bowl for the dog. I use just a regular water bottle for my dog. Wind up not drinking til I get home. So, keep up all the good motivating work! |

aovermy - do remember your response HERE when I gained 15 in a week and I understandably freaked. They came off quick though and see your doing great with them too. I think its because we think of it as 15 lbs of fat but much of it can be us also reacting to the mega high salt content of non-diet foods and our bodies holding onto the water to peak the number. Good job turning it around!
Ive seen those doggie water bottles - so cute but I agree those big number distances blow me away although walking without sit stops is pretty cool to me now as in hours at Walmart. |

Thanks for keeping me in the group! As soon as we got home from our Florida trip on the 10th of June, we found out that my grandparents had lost their house and both cars in the flood. (We're in Waterloo/Cedar Falls IA) and so my parents took them to live with them and we all worked non-stop at their house trying to restore it until fema came in 2 weeks ago and told us that it is "un-liveable) as it has too much bacteria & mold growing so we then buckled down and I took them apartment hunting and finally found them a great senior apartment thankfully! They are both 88 and next month will have been married for 70 years!!! They have been through way too much! Anyway, sorry for the rant there. You would think with all the working I would have been losing but unfortunately with the working all the neighbors and friends kept bringing excellent food so I have not lost anything for another month but at least haven't gained yet either. I'm back on it (as of Wednesday) and hope for a loss for August 1st. Thanks for all the supporting comments on here from everyone. I really appreciate this group more than anyone can know! |

What a time you and your family have been through! My mom is also 88 but not able to live independently - youre parents are fortunate in that way but still, a horrible tragedy to experience!
I really hate to see anyone leave which is why I allow a month after weighin before removing anyone - you never know what could come up in someones life as your point well makes. Good thoughts for 8/1~ |

mwiowa, great that you are back! Your family has been through a lot, I hope things settle down for you. You have the right attitude, though! I had several months without a loss this year and I know it can be discouraging. It is actually a really good accomplishment that you did not gain while you were dealing with everything. You will have no problem getting right back on the weight loss track! |

So I was clearing out a load of old clothes the other day, and I came accross some jeans that I wore at my heaviest. Lately, I have been having trouble seeing the difference in my body- but this photo has cheered me right up! I have posted a pic in my gallery (please ignore the AWFUL face I am pulling) of me and my old jeans. They are a UK size 28, which I'm not completely sure but I think that is a US 26 (correct me if anybody knows different). So if anyone ever doubts themselves, or has trouble seeing the loss, take a pic of you and your old clothes. It works :) |

mwiowa, So sorry to hear about your parents home. My vac. home is actually my late in-laws former house (we bought it from her when she moved into the nursing facility) and it's located in Iowa, in the city of Fort Madison. Fortunately, Fort Madison wasn't flooded, other than the Riverview Park (which is built on lowlands right next to the river and is largely expected to flood anytime the river overflows), and the 2 train depots which one is used as a museum and the other still a train station. We have family in Cedar Rapids though so know about the disaster there. Glad that you found them a nice place. |

sun123, Yep, you're right, you'd think I've been dieting long enough that I wouldn't freak so much over a gain, it just seemed like such a large gain (over 5% of my total body weight now) and didn't come off quickly. I'm down to just having an extra 4 lb of it on me now. It is TTOM though so maybe those 4 lb are just water. OK, this weekend was my record best for walking. First, I took a play canteen (they sell them at Paradise Island in Florida (kind of a Disney night spot) and are to carry a mixed drink. Anyway, I had dug them up and took one out filled with water. It worked, though the shoulder strap wasn't comfortable and the water warmed up, but since the water was for my dog anyway, it wasn't that bad. So, we started out on our usual countryside ramble, only as we approached the end of the gravel road leg, a 6 month old puppy (around) started following us. I could tell she belonged to the farmhouse that's there on the road because that's where she had been and she had a collar on. So anyway, we continued on, still being followed until we had gone about 1/4 mile (uphill) past the gravel road onto a paved road. I began to worry she was going to get injured once we got back to US 61 because she wasn't going home (despite my numerous admonitions to her to do so). So, we walked back to the gravel road (I figured maybe she'd stay if we passed her house). No such luck. She continued following us and the folks at the house didn't appear to be home. So I figured, OK, let's walk this way on this road, maybe she'll get bored and head back. No such luck, and this time on the way through we picked up another follower, a big brown dog. By now, I feel like some kind of dog pied piper. So we get to the end of this road at US 61 (the whole route makes a big loop) and again, I'm concerned someone is going to get hit, so I decide to walk back through again, on the paved road, and the gravel road to see if I can ditch these dogs. Luckily, this time the owners of the farmhouse were home and the puppy stayed put. So we rapidly made our escape back down the gravel road, so we took this leg back so I could ditch the big brown dog, which I successfully did, so then it was just me and Spikey again, so we got back to US 61 and walked almost all the way home until my partner picked us up. We paused for a couple drink spots for her, she was able to drink out of the canteen top. This was a 5 hour walk that covered close to 14 miles as each of those treks down the gravel road to the paved road to US61 were 3 miles.(according to mapmywalk.com). So we went to Walmart (because I fell in love with the tank top I was wearing that I had gotten there, it's a racerback tank with an integrated shelf bra. I love it.) and I got a fanny pack with 2 water bottles (500ml each) that fits into 2 pouches on either side of the cargo pouch. So on Sunday, we took a different route (didn't want to reprise my role as doggy pied piper) out and about and the fanny pack worked great! The cargo pouch was big enough to take a plastic bowl for my dog along with bags (for doggy waste product), and my cell phone and I filled both bottles with water and a little ice. After the first hour we stopped for a water break every 1/2 hour (it was a lot hotter and sunnier on Sunday.) We did a good 10 miles over 4 hours and almost emptied the bottles (were down to 4 oz in one bottle). So if we want to do longer treks on hot days, we'll have to either plan to restock somewhere along the way or take additional bottles. Spikey really liked the water stops. Sunday was the first day that when we got back she didn't immediately run to the water bowl. Instead, she ran to her shaded spot to lie down. |

Sun-that is such a milestone 165 pounds. What a great motivator. If you can push yourself to do that you can do anything. I can't even imagine all the hard work you have put in to losing that much weight. Good for you! Aovermy-wow, you are doing awesome on your walks. The miles you walk is just incredible. Sounds like Spikey is enjoy the walks to. That is to funny about the dogs following you. That bothers me when I see that happening I'm always afraid their their getting to far from home or that the owners don't even know their loose. I think your lifestyle is defiantly a reflection of how much weight you have lost. Keep up the good work. mwiowa-you have really been through some stuff. I heard how bad the floods were over there, and didn't even think about how you were effected. Sounds like maybe this move was a good transition for your grandparents and may work out for the best as they age. I worry about my grandparents being out in the country living in their house by themselves. I'm glad to hear no gain you really have to hold onto even those days when you're flush. Good luck with everything. laurabow-how fun is that! I have been doing the same thing finding clothes that are to big. I have the same issue of not seeing it in my body, but man you put those old "fat" clothes on and hello waste line. You're doing so good.
I hit 248 Sunday I was so excited I still continuously 3lbs. behind, but I don't even care to be in the 240's now is just so awesome. I am still seeing myself yo yoing, but that's ok I'm still consistently losing and I'm loving it. I wore my new size 18 black skirt to work today I can't believe I got it on let alone feeling comfortable in it ( mom took pictures for me will post some new before and after I am starting to notice a little difference in my pictures). I hate pantyhose though I stripped them off about an hour ago I'm just dealing with my pasty pail legs today (very daring:) ). I went to a family gathering Sunday and had lunch I did so good it was almost disgusting. I made sure to take very small portions, and I walked 2 and a half miles afterwards. So I really felt good. I was up 2 lbs. this morning though. I am kinda feeling like my TOTM is coming. So maybe the yo-yoing is water weight. I am going to be done with school finals for this term tomorrow I am so excited to have a little break and I tell ya what, timing could not be any better; I will be moved into my new apt. when next term starts. I think I will start packing this week and actually moving stuff over the next couple weekends. It'll be so nice to rev up my exercise routine with walking to and from work Mon.-Fri. Good luck everyone. Angie |

Sounds like youve work cut out for you Renear and you know THAT will be a workout too! Moving - hate it! Great way to manage enjoying the family get together.
Funny aovermy that puppy seemed determined to add to your walk workout - interesting story! Can we give a shoutout to the person who invented those shirts with the shelf bra, whoever they are (and sports bras for that matter). Laura, that pic is ... wow! Looks like a success youd see in a commercial! Real inspiration. I alwaays wear dresses but still have so not easy to since they were super loose but have one photo of me at biggest and still have dress. Now that Ive taken in dresses, could repose in it. After my fake gain LOL last week, this weeks going to look like I lost more than I really did I bet. 295 to 297 and now floating at 292 hoping for better. Probably need to difference between 14 days and divide by 2. |

Wow the list of ppl is getting shorter ? Hope everyone here is doing well =) Im hoping to have a way better july then June. I went to the Dr and told him the problems I had been having with water retention, so he gave me some pills to resolve the issue, they seem to be working so far =) He was very impressed with my results so far, an couldnt believe that i was tracking everything from calories to fiber to sodium. It was great to get his support .. and it made me feel great =) and like i am on the right track .. even if this train is going much slower that i thought it would =) ~K |

Im sure its refreshing for a doctor to see someone like yourself Korali taking their health so seriously. I was suprised when I realized water pills were perscribed. Id heard about them and figured you could just buy them.
Regarding the list, I noticed some who didnt return also hadnt signed into CC for sometimes. Others seem to have moved on but any are welcome to return and be added back. July month is the strongest month for updates - guess by this point, those weighing in are committed to out Jan 2009 cause of going all the way and for a few (raises hand), more. My ACs been out since Sunday night and should have a repair today. At least its caused me to drink up a storm but has me lethargic so looking to getting my energy back. |

renaer14, Yes, it bothers me too, that's why I kept going back to their houses, so they'd stay there and not get lost or hit or what not. Plus I'm sure our scent trails criss cross all over the place so they can't just easily follow the scent back to the highway. My lifestyle has definitely changed since starting my weight loss journey. I've just become more of an outside person and really, really enjoy being in the outdoors. One of the real bonuses of that is that I have a great tan going on! I can wear my denim jumper without panyhose (which I hate with a real passion) because my legs are so bronzed. My shoulders and back are a little burnt (they were last week too) due to wearing that razorback tank out in the Iowa sunshine, but noxcema seems to be helping to soothe it. sun123, Yep, I love sports bras, too. Nothing like them for running in. I'm not sure the tank with the shelf bra will work for running in, might not be enough support, but for my country rambles, they're the best! I've recently began wearing more "normal" bras (non-sports), it's hard to believe I'm wearing a 36D now! I started at 50D!!! |
||
| #737 | Jul 15 2008 19:05 | |
|
That is a a seriously dramatic bra reduction! I used to be a 46 or 48 and could only find them at plus size stores and they were always crazy priced. Just recently got my first normal priced bra at Walmart.
Whats so amazing to me about sports bras was not that theyre more comfortable than regular - I expected that because of thow the material and how theyre made. I was surprised to discover theyre more comfortable than no bra. You would think not being 'bound' would be best but support with only soft constraint. Im rambling but you can see how impressed I am. It was just a fluke that I tried on one my daughter didnt wear just to see if I could fit in it. Trying to restrain but just knowing this is going to be a gooood week for weigh in. Home scale is a saying good things - hoping the clinic scale agrees Thursday! |

mwiowa - sorry to hear about your family, but it is nice to see how a family pulls together to get things done in times of need. I hoping the scale starts to move again, even though I feel like I am retaining water, time to get out the green tea. |

Sun-awesome! I am so happy for you. That is incredible. I can't believe how fast everyone including myself have profoundly lost weight. It's such a great feeling being on something that works. Especially if you work the new life style right.
I hit 246lbs. this morning. I am so excited I can't believe I'm almost 30lbs. down since starting CC. I'm hoping for 245 tomorrow so I can be only 3lbs. behind, but of course a loss every week is great. Little bit of a delay on the apt. their doing some remodeling on the bathroom and should be done next week so hopefully I will be moving in next weekend. Which will start my regiment of walking to and from work everyday. I was talking about wanting to play tennis to a friend of mine and she said she loves to play. I am so anxious to get into that what a great fun way to exercise, and where she plays is in walking distance to my new apt. how cool is that. I also just started getting into belly dancing. My mom used to do it when she was younger so shes teaching me the basics to get me started and there is a class at the park district for it so I think when that starts up again I'm going to do that. I'm really trying to find fun ways to get my exercise in and to really mix things up so I don't get bored and my body doesn't get used to it. If the whether stays good tomorrow I'm going to ride my bike in the country I've been wanting to do that for quite awhile, and now I'm making myself get out there and do it. I posted some before and after pics. I can't believe the difference in my face it's just incredible. The one before picture is actually what got me motivated to lose in the very beginning. I was horrified of that picture and couldn't believe I let myself get that fat. Not anymore fit and active is the new focus. Good luck everyone! Angie |
