WOW PORSHA!! What a routine!! And I workout everyday but I think you are doing much more than I am. I dont know if my shins could take it. But I applaude you and your continuing effort to do your best!!
I am on day 11 today. I have lost 4 LBS and 5 1/2 inches. I think I am getting a jump rope too as a reward for my efforts!! Have a GREAT day everyone! Juanita |

I have a questions??? What makes shins ache. My daughter has the same problem when we are walking she sometimes has to stop cause it hurts?
Porsha, I did the treadmill today - 135 minutes I tried the other equipment but, I always turn to the treadmill. I just bought the jump rope. |

Thanks for that answer. I didnt know what I could do to help the pain out. I just dont walk as long.
What is the best way to stretch the shins out? Or can someone point me to a website with more information. I would love to be walking more. Right now I walk for 30 minutes each day....well except last night...I walked at the grocery store...not as good for me I know but my family was about to hang me out to dry! Juanita |

Hey everyone! welcome to our newbies!! It's been crazy here in my house for the past couple of days, but I am posting to share that I have lost another two pounds today (total lost: 22) making me 214 with only 44 pounds left to go! YAY!
It could be stress---but whatever it is, I am going with it!! I have been swimming a lot, and I feel like this is excellent exercise, especially treading water. :) I have a question though---have any of you experienced "charley horses" in your legs since you've started being more active?! The pain in my left leg woke me out of a deep sleep last night and I woke up my daughter by screaming...it was horrific! Hope you all have a great weekend!! Beckie :) |

| I am back from my Mickey Visit...looks like you all have been doing great with out me : ) I ate pretty well when I was there the food at the world is really good and you can eat healthy down there too. I did eat bad a few days but over all I did good. Weather was really nice. Mid 80's every day no rain and very sunny. I see there was a question to me from Loven, you should never stop exercising. Unless it is your "rest" day. Some people take a day off, or do something lighter on one or two days a week if they are doing some heavy duty workouts. You are building up lean muscle and loosing the fat which is what you want to have happen. Your body will shape differently once that starts to happen. You may not loose weight, but your clothes will fit different and also will be in smaller sizes. You will notice that as well...I will post a couple of my pics from my trip in my profile. Along with the wife...I did a lot of walking probably 10 miles a day if I average out the time at the park standing in line and such. We also did Blizzard Beach one day but most of the time spent on the lazy river...I needed the break...but still did some swimming and other water slides so I did get in my exercise then as well. | ||

| Stinky, A few weeks ago you posted some advice to another person and it really stuck with me. You recomended to her that she try to eat as healthy as she could on vacation. Order grilled chicken and salads at restaurants when she could and plan ahead. That advice stuck with me and when I was away for 2 weeks while I didn't loose anything I also didn't gain. Thanks so much! I'll be honest and say I did enjoy a couple of scoops of ice cream but since we hiked lots I feel great! Thanks again. | ||

Avon-
You are welcome. I know vacations are hard since I was gone I ate as best I could, but well you have to eat what you like sometimes otherwise you will go crazy. So I did eat badly a few times, but over all I did well. Since I walked about 6 hours on the average everyday I did get my walking in, so it off set what I ate badly. I still didn't work out like I do when I go to the gym so this is my first day back to the gym. So I hope I can get in a good work out. Not gaining on vacation is good, if you can stay the same when you get back is great. |

Welcome back Stinky!! I'm glad to hear about your advice with Disney---we are going there in November. But those damn Mickey ice cream pops get me every time :)
So----I have great news! As of today, I've lost 25 pounds!! YAY! I really hope that I am not losing too fast---basically I am losing about 3-6 pounds a week...but I am still getting enough calories?! Little confused, but it's coming off nice and I find myself looking forward to getting on the scale in the morning...how's that for funny? So, losing the 25 puts me at 212, and my goal for June is to lose 10 pounds by July 4th (taking a vacation at a lake in NC and need to wear a bathing suit!! lol). I have noticed that when I do it in small steps it doesn't overwhelm me as badly as knowing I plan on losing another 45 pounds. Thanks for the advice about the potassium---I haven't had as many problems lately, I have just started working again and am on my feet all the time...does anyone user a pedometer to count their steps? I'm wondering if this would be a good idea.... |

Thanks Beckie-
Great job on the 25 lbs. No you are not loosing too fast, it will slow down not sure when the more you have to loose the faster it comes off, it is just the way it works. Your body will start to hold on to what it thinks it needs. But don't get discouraged. I used to wear a pedometer it really does help. I would take an average of about 3 or 4 days don't do anything extra and get a general idea of what you normally walk. Then try to increase that. We have a program at work called 10,000 steps that is what you are suppose to try to work in a day. That gives you about 3 miles of walking. To get that you have to get creative. Like walking at lunch parking farther, walk while waiting for an elevator etc. It works, now I don't wear one since I work out pretty much everyday and walk everyday at lunch if the weather is nice. Disney World will give you more walking than you will ever need!! I figured I walked about 6 hours a day at 3 miles an hour so that is what like 18 miles a day on the average, maybe more...make sure you get comfortable shoes... : ) |

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. :) I just joined today (June 5, 07) after rededicating myself to working out and dieting healthily yesterday. Right now I'm at (roughly) 250 lbs. My actual weight varies between 242lbs and 250lbs, mostly due to water consumption. My goal is to lose 90lbs, preferably within a year, but I'm willing to stretch it to a year and a half. I feel, given my body frame, my shape, and my facial structure, somewhere between 150 lbs and 160 lbs would be good for me. I'm 5'4" tall, and large framed, according to the wrist test. My current work-out routine is 5 days a week/20 - 25 minutes per day on the elliptical, with average speed around 5.4 mph. Currently, I'm running a 12 minute mile and burning about 230 calories. I also walk what I'd estimate to be close to a full mile to and from the gym, and an additional estimated quarter mile to and from class/work everyday (I'm taking summer sessions at college, and we have two very nice fitness centers). My current goal for the week is to stick with the routine! :) For the next two weeks, I hope to increase my average speed by a quarter mile, reduce my mile by 15 seconds and increase my caloric output to 250/day. My long term goals for the summer (until the end of July) are a 1mph increase in my run, a 45 second shave off my mile, and an increased caloric output of around 280/day. I also hope to work my leg muscles into good enough shape to prepare them for outdoor running after my courses are over for the summer, as I don't have equipment access at home. My food goals are to maintain a "B" through the nutrition analysis for the next few weeks until I better understand how I can provide myself good nutrition on a limited budget. I believe I'll aim for around 2200 calories a day for the next few weeks and slowly take it down to 1900 - 2000/day by the end of July. I'm not setting any weight loss goals for myself, because I have a few theories on why my weight has always been a problem for me, and I want to see how exercise changes that. Finally, I think this thread is a wonderful idea, and I hope to check it regularly. :D |

Megan---WELCOME!!
I wanted to let you know that I too am on a kind of limited budget, and have found that Slim-Fast is AWESOME when it comes to helping me jump start my diet. Here in SC they are about 5.50 for a 6-pack, 10.75 for a 12 pack. I drink one in the morning on my way to school (around 8 am), have one about a half an hour before eating my lunch, which I try to eat at 1:00 every day (I try to keep lunch under 500 kcals)---for example I boiled some eggs and will make a salad...the eggs aren't that great on kcals, but the amount of protein in them is awesome. For dinner tonight (right around 6 pm) I am having a grilled chicken, no starch, with summer squash and zucchini. So I eat about every five hours, and I really haven't been hungry for anything else lately...just make sure to drink lots of water. For me at 212 pounds I drink 106 ounces of water a day!! Good luck, post often. I find that it helps out a LOT! Beckie :) |

Good Morning Everyone and welcome meganthefeisty, I am so impressed what I just read. Actually I thought you were writing about me. I am also a 5'4, large frame women and feel comfortable at 150lbs. When I started in January I was 243 I am now down 40lbs. I made a long term commitment to myself that I would workout and eat healthier. My goal is to lose 100 by a year and half but like you I am good at 150lbs. I enjoy walking at least 7/8 miles a day and I am jogging which is something I haven't done in years. Again, Welcome your at the right place with motivated friends. |

I am 24, and my husband is 31. We are both around the same weight...250. The only difference is that after I had my son a year ago, I sky rocketed to 300 pounds. I have so far lost 50 lbs throught dieting and exercise. I also have an enlarged heart that I am taking medication for...and it is supposed to make me gain weight. So far, no such luck (fingers crossed). I am 5 foot 11 inches, so my ideal weight is somewhere around 185. I also have very large breasts which account for maybe 10-15 pounds of my weight. People always tell me (mostly its people who dont even know me) that 185 is still too heavy, and that I should lose more. Well, on the contrary; I am big boned, and if I were to drop down to 160, or even 170...I would be all skin and bones. Besides, I have a lot of muscle on my body.
Anyway, my husband is a different story. He does not want to exercise. I have tried and tried to get him to exercise, but the harder I try, the more he resits. I guess he is willing to make somewhat of an effort by eating healthy, but he also likes to eat a lot of junk food in between meals. He tries to feed me some of this junk food, but I have pretty good will power. His doctor suggested that he walk half an hour a day since he wont exercise, but I dont think he will actually do it. Any suggestions? |

| Beckiey- Does the slim fast help to curb your appetite at all? I have been looking at switching up my diet more and thought that slim fast may help to do the trick. | ||
