QUESTION OF THE DAY -- WEDNESDAY JULY 16

Do you have a favorite meal of the day? (And why?)

OMGosh!!! I had an awful time! I went thru cc withdrawals and actually left the house and went to the mall for a smoothie! lol I was so mad I couldn't write my "friends" back! lol

I have always thought of buying blueberries, but I don't know what to do with them! :D

That is so funny! I felt the same way, too when the site was down.

Blueberries: Just put them in a bowl and munch on them one at a time! They are perfect when they are only slightly thawed but not completely. So the first few are too hard and if you take too much time to eat them, the last few are too mushy. but the rest are perfect!

They are also good in cereal and smoothies. I also add them to whole wheat pancake batter and bran muffins sometimes. But mostly I just eat them straight. They are "expensive" but not really because they last a long time and compared to other snacks, I don't think they are that much more expensive in the long run. I buy them in the big bags. They have great fiber, they even contain protein and of course lots of vitamins.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- WEDNESDAY JULY 16

Do you have a favorite meal of the day? (And why?)

MOLLY

Well, I have to say dinner because I eat my biggest meal at dinner and I give dinner plans more thought. I tried eating my biggest meal at lunch but it never worked out. I never have enough time to plan it or eat it and I still get too hungry in the evening. So my favorite meal is definitely dinner.

DESSERT!  Actually I'm debating now between lunch and my afternoon snack.  I used to love breakfast until the cost of "my" cereal jumped to over $4.50 a box.  I really like Fiber One Honey Clusters.  So now I can't buy my favorite cereal and am resorting to low-fiber cereals because they cost less.  I use my meal card now for Smart Start cereal, which is okay, but tends to be a little boring, and I find myself very low on fiber everyday.

Lunch:  I like lunch because I discovered the wraps place at UNCG.  I eat the Chicken Caesar wrap a lot, because it's a 13" spinach tortilla (dense in healthy Calories and equally dense in flavor) with 1/2 cup shredded chicken, 1/2 cup shredded iceburg lettuce, 1 oz tomatoes, and (I specifically ask for low caesar) 1 tbsp caesar dressing.  It's delicious and comes with a cup of freshly cut fruit.  The fruit cup consists of grapes, fresh pineapple, canteloupe, and honeydew.  Occasionally it has strawberries too.  YUMMY!  To drink, I typically have "Tava" passionfruit-lime sugar free soda.

Afternoon snack:  I love it because it's tasty. I usually have a low-fat, part-skim string cheese and a cup of fruit, which consists of the fruit above.

If I had to pick, lunch would be my favorite, I suppose.

I'm a big fan of lunch.  I usually bring a big assortment of fruits, veggies, nuts, cheese, and anything else colorful and yummy.  Sometimes at dinner I'm tired and less than creative, but my lunch is always pretty and yummy.

  •  pickled beets

Wednesday QOD: I really enjoy breakfast because I like my choices, but I'd have to say supper is my favorite.  I save more of my calories for supper so I usually get to have a lot more choice.  I feel cheated if I have fewer calories left later in the day, but perhaps I should try eating a larger lunch and smaller supper?

QOD: I would have to say Molly's list about covers it.  I'm also not a big fan of cantelope.
#709 melly991 Jul 17 2008 14:03

I would say I enjoy dinner the most because dinner is usually where I put my effort in.  During the day at work I eat more processed type frozen meals or simple snacks like nuts or fruit.  I try to make a homemade, healthy dinner every night (unless we're having leftovers of the homemade, healthy dinner from earlier in the week).

Things that squick me out:

Molly's list is pretty comprehensive for me (except for pickled beets, which are actually quite tasty).  Although I would add caviar.  Just ew.  I mean, I've gotten over quite a number of my childhood food pickiness, but those those things just give me the serious heebies.

Wow, I just realized that I've lost another 10 pounds since we started this club, 162 this morning from 172 to start.  Not as much as I was hoping, but the slowed down weight loss is still satisfying.  Although I will not be seeing the 140s by the end of this like I had hoped, I should definitely see the 150s, and that's pretty great.

QOD: Foods that gross me out:

  • I also hate liver, internal organs & and strange body parts
  • Also raw oysters - for that matter I don't like any kind of oysters
  • Canned coconut (But I love fresh)
  • Boiled okra or gumbo - because it's slimy!  (But I love okra fried)

I can't think of one right now.  I'll come back to the question after I go potty!

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- WEDNESDAY JULY 16 Do you have a favorite meal of the day? (And why?)

I'd say dinner because that's my biggest meal and when I get my variety.  Breakfast/Lunch tend to be the same thing day to day except maybe on the weekends.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 17 Is there some food that just grosses you out? (You intensely dislike/refuse to ever try)

I think Molly's list pretty much covers it for me as well except that I do like liver but all other organ meats/strange body parts forget it! Also Sushi and strange (to me) seafood items (squid, octopus, raw oysters etc). I do like fish and most shellfish though.

#713 earth_mom Jul 17 2008 21:52

QOD: Wednesday: breakfast hands down. I feel best in the morning, I love all the forbidden meats: sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, grits, butter, jam, muffins, toast, french toast, orange juice, grapefruits, cantaloupe, berries, cranberry juice, and coffee, lots of coffee, black, or with heavy cream.....mmmmm

QOD Thursday. I believe I like all the food on Molly's list, especially the raw oysters and the liver. I prefer my beets fresh, but have happily eaten pickled.

I have often said I never met a food I didn't like. Except maybe mashed rutabagas, but I've never had them.

Love sushi! and caviar! How about sardines, anyone? didn't we have a president who didn't like broccoli? turnips? some people don't like them. Eyeballs? yeh, I probly wouldn't eat eyeballs. But I did have sweetbreads (organs) in a French restaurant and they were yummy. Snails?

#714 mollymouser Jul 17 2008 22:15
My personal theory is that the ONLY reason people eat snails (escargot) is because they are smothered in garlic butter. My response? Just add garlic butter to some yummy sourdough bread and skip the bugs!!! LOL! In fact, I don't want to eat ANY bug, even if covered in chocolate or garlic butter!

I love sashimi (not a big sushi fan since the rice has too many carbs for me), and I love-love-love caviar. (Gross, slimy fish eggs, as my wonderful DH calls 'em.) For the record, he detests mushrooms and olives. (I love both!)

TWO MORE WEEKS UNTIL THE END OF THIS COUNTDOWN!!!!

I was thinking of starting another one SEPTEMBER 1 -- "FRESH STARTS FOR FALL" or something like that. Same basic format ... post yer goals, and probably a Q.O.D... if people seem interested.

Meat (including seafood) products and yogurt are about the only things on my list.  Plants are all fair game to me, pickled or otherwise.

#716 mrsblackhawk Jul 17 2008 22:31

Ick.  Lima beans...for some reason, I don't like them.  Maybe the consistency?

Molly....a fall countdown would be awesome!  I came upon this group late and I was thinking the other day how much I would miss it when we hit August....

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 17

MOLLY

Intense dislike:

pickled anything

most condiments (no ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish for me)

green peppers

green olives (can only deal with black ones in very small amounts)

Not interested in trying:

natto - fermented soybeans; they look gluey and nasty, and don't smell that great either

durian - SE Asian fruit; has a custardy taste, I'm told - unfortunately smells like dog poo (they sell them at my local ethnic grocer, and just opening the refrigerator cabinet they are kept in spreads the stench throughout the store; they are banned in most good hotels in Thailand and Singapore because of this)

Now, I *do* like some of the items others have listed:  liver (esp. chicken or turkey liver), lima beans, okra.  Tastes differ.Tongue out

Great job melly- I'm envious as I've been in a holding pattern and haven't lost at all during this.  I guess I'm OK because it was somewhat intentional but now that I see your progress it makes me want to get back on it.

Molly, I think a fall group would be great.  Perhaps I'll really try and lose these last 20 or so pounds.

Have a good evening-Dianne

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 17

MOLLY

peanut butter (I don't like peanuts, but peanut butter's even worse!)

raw celery (there's something in it I'm hypersensitive to; I can't even eat salads that I've picked celery out of 'cause I can still taste it on the lettuce)

offal of any kind (liver, kidneys, etc.)

I started calorie counting on July 1, and I'm already working on my summer changes:

1. Walk to work whenever possible (and STOP manufacturing reasons it's not possible that day!)

2. Eat a proper breakfast every day.  I used to be a notorious breakfast skipper.

3. Drink more water (and/or unsweetened iced tea and/or herbal tea) and less pop.

4. Strength training at least 3 days a week - over and above occasional bursts of sit-ups/push-ups/leg-lifts while watching TV.

5. Eat less junk food - and pre-portion it when I do.
