Hi jredig, Thanks! :D I appreciate it! It's nice to be welcomed and hope I do fit in too and get to find my 'niche'. :D Yes, I hope I win the challenge too! haha. Thanks for your comments too! P.S. I noticed on your profile you mentioned lifting weights....I do! :D I enjoy taking the weight lifting class at my gym. :) It's empowering I think with the music and everything. My most favorite exercise in the class, just b/c it makes me feel strong (not necessarily b/c I feel/see the most results while doing this move) is bicep curls. :D I have been noticing a bit more results in my triceps dips or squats when I look in the mirror while I'm working out. :) That is kind of exciting! :D My random comments: I do think that women having toned muscle looks sexy. :D Hence..why I'm trying to get myself there! :D I want to be sexy! :D Having too much muscle on a woman, however, like 'body building', to me, is just not feminine or womanly in any way. Although, no offense to anyone here if you are into 'women body building'. It's just not something I want to strive for. I want to be strong/fit and sexy, but also look like a woman. Anyway...have a great day! Thanks for welcoming me! :D |

Hi mllbbllm, Glad to see you've decided to start paying attention to your weight while you are still in college. :D Congrats...that's honestly a huge step! Being healthy is important and it can be 100 x harder when you are in college...whether you had a 'healthy' lifestyle or not before you started college. :D Maybe if I paid more attn. I would feel more in control with my weight and my life right now. So.....congrats on your progress thus far! Good luck and hope to hear from you soon!

Jen, I think you (and my boyfriend) are right, it's the high levels of soy. I've never had a problem with tofu or edamame but maybe it's soy concentrate or isolate or something of that nature. I'm going to cut back though, so I need to find another way to get my protein (hello turkey, chicken and egg whites).
Question, you said you make your own protein bars, do you mind sharing the recipe?? |

smiles- yay! for lifting. it is fun, huh? i like to wear a tanktop and watch my baby muscles bulge :) and there is that "line" were i think a woman who lifts looks like a man but I really do like the look of some muscle. Strength is beautiful Oooo I remember those 2 am trips to Sharis, good times :) welcome Mllbbllm! Good luck and keep us posted. I woudl also suggest interval training (look up HIT google) for really burnign those #s (better than only long, slow cardio sessions. Rennai- Well lets hope this does the trick, i guess you will know in a week or so. i posted my recipe for protein bars on page 22 of this forum (at the bottom half). My favorite flavors right now is pumkin (I use canned) with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves :) I also really like one I make with some orange zest (two oranges worth and a little juice) with currants and cinnamon. The recipe is very forgiving, just add liquids and dry stuff and spice with 5-6 eggs until it tastes good and is the consistancy of cookie dough. i never measure and it changes all the time, depending on whats on hand. Best with coffee because it is on the dry side because there is no oil or butter in it. But I think they are yummy. Sometimes i add kashi cereal too it too, all good. Have fun with it! |

Sigh...weighed in at 130 today up from 129 yesterday. So, here's a bit of an embarassing question, but maybe some of you have a suggestion or can relate. I started my dedicated workouts/healthy eating about 4 weeks ago, I have noticed in the past two weeks or so that I am not...errr...regular anymore. I have increased my protein intake, so I don't know if that is the problem, but I would really like to get back to normal. Any suggestions/ideas? Brianne, Have sooo much fun on your honeymoon! Margo - Welcome! I'm glad to see that you are a Biggest Loser fan. I watch the show every Tuesday. It is a big inspiration to me to watch these people work their butts off to get healthy. I figure if they can change their lifestyle to become healthy, then I can change mine to lose a few pounds. I rooting for the yellow team :). mllbllm - Welcome and good luck on your goals!

PS I posted 2 pictures from about a year ago. I think I weighed 140 in them but could be upto 145 not sure. I need recent pictures of 130 :( Good luck to everyone tonight! |

1) Protein does tend to make your stool harder and less frequent so make a real effort with fiber make sure you are not neglecting your fiber (green veggies and oat bran also great for this). I actually do not count the calories from asparagus, sugar snap peas, oranges or grapefruit and some supposed "thermogenic foods" with high fiber liek these. I eat like a cup of sugar snap peas or brocolli a day (raw) this seems to do the trick -- better than fiber supplements too. If I stop doign this, well then I stop... 2) Also ask yourself if you are under-eating. Too few calories for your expenditure can do this. 3) And carb. cycling can help, if this remains a real problem. This is something I have had problems with in past high-protein diets but doing all of the above has resolved them this time around. itzbubble-- hope you are feeling better now. I think posting every week sounds good. Shall we all post every Wednesday (starting tomorrow) like we used to do? I would love it it everyone when they did this would post their current weight, goal weight and weight lost (or gained) since the week before. i found this a great motivation in the past. |

collins, i seriously upped my protein intake a couple weeks ago and was concerned about that side effect too. i add a couple spoons on Benefiber to my shake/water twice a day and have been more regular than ever in my life! but, my mom started benefiber the same time i did and she had stomach cramps, maybe from the fiber...so experiment, but maybe worth a shot. i know what you guys mean about the fit pregnant ladies/ mommies- what's my excuse! i have no kids. i need to step it up! my thoughts exactly. hit 126(!) sunday, but superbowl and 3 (fri, sat, sun) days of drinking caught up with me, 129.2 for past two days. but again, it's not the number i'm after, it's a look, and that will take time. i found a new goal body in the victoria's secret catalog and posted it on my fridge. more as a motivation for hard training, for that hard tight body look. bri, i hope you don't run into delays in chicago before the honeymoon! have an incredible time. let's see, goal for feb- weight train at least 3 days a week, add at least one more day of pilates for 2x a week. up weights to 12lb bells. reach 125lbs |

Hi Everyone! :D Good to see replies....but also hope everyone is doing alright....after reading the issues about being irregular and being sick. :/ Hope you all get back to normal...in all aspects..soon! :D Feel better! Jen...yes, muscles can be very beautiful on a woman...I agree! :D It is fun to wear clothes during a workout that you can physically see your muscles working....it is a great motivator! :D Interesting idea to make your own protein bars...hmmmm..:D Collins...thanks! Glad to be here! Yes, it is such a great motivation to watch BL show and want to get myself into shape that much more! :D As for who I'm rooting for.....well after yesterday's show...hmmmm...to comment...I do like the Yellow team..though I feel bad for both Kelly and Paul. Paul still not over her and with Kelly having such a low sense of self esteem...I hope that they can work on those issues and succeed! I actually think I like Brittany and Bernie more now....I know that Brittany's comments can sometimes be a little touchy.....but I like those two. It was sweet to watch Bernie's video from his girlfriend....aww! Anyway... Rennai....good luck with your hip hop cardio class. :D I'm sure that will be a good workout. Itzbubble....good idea about weighing in once a week and then posting it. :) (Just like on the BL show. :D) I actually am doing a BL challenge with my stepdad right now. Our challenge started on 1/22/08 and the challenge is to lose 10% of our body weight as of that date and our goal date is May 24th. The winner gets $100! It's a goal nonetheless and I don't want to lose! Our 'weigh in' day is Monday...so as of two days ago, I was 137.6 down from 141. :D Though I could still certainly weigh in on Wednesdays on here. Yeah, things are going to fluctuate from day to day...so I'm going to try and not let things get to me if I see things go up from one day to the next. My goal is to get to 120lbs. by summer... Hbbroadbent......as for your VS model pic. on your fridge....sigh...haha! I get those catalogs like every week! Yeah, I look at them and think....if only I could look as hot as Alessandra Ambrosio then I'm good...hahaha!Though I know my body is different than hers and would be different even at my most fit, it gets me to thinking about being fit anyway when I look through the VS catalog.... So, good luck to you and congrats for using that as a motivator! Hope you achieve your goals this month! Have a happy 'Hump' day (Wednesday) everyone! P.S. Just wanted to say, I was looking at all your profiles & pics. to find out more about everyone who's posted lately......and not to sound 'weird' or anything, but you ladies are gorgeous!!! :D Keep up with your routines! You all are going to make your boyfriends/husbands fall over now--much less when you get 'more fit'. *yay 130/120 team!* *Cheesy..but hey...trying to be inspiring...

jredig,
I did much better yesterday! No binging. In fact, after adding up my calories for yesterday, I realized that I almost didn't make what my goal # is, which to me is great, cuz I wasn't overly hungry, even after exercising. I made sure to eat some yogurt a little before my workout, and got some protein in afterwards.
rennai, sorry to hear you had knee surgery. Was it sports related - if you don't mind my asking? Can you ever do high impact again? It sounds like you are doing plenty of other stuff in place of it. brianneo, One other great source of protein is from beans/legumes. I have a great healthy snack recipe that I just made for the superbowl and am still snacking on it. I'm posting it here in case you all are interested: Spicy Bean Salsa 1 can black eyed peas 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 can whole kernel corn, drained 1/2 c. chopped onion 1/2 c. chopped green bell pepper 1 4oz can diced jalapeno peppers 2 chopped tomatoes a little lemon juice, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper to taste mix together, serve with some blue corn chips. Tastes even better the next couple of days after flavors blend. Yumm! |

So many new people every time I log on! It's so great to see such an active forum. I weighed in today at about 126. Still fluctuating all over the place, but overall my trend line is still going down.
I decided to set myself a goal every week so it gives me something different to work towards. I did good Monday and Tuesday, and then I got sick. I mean really sick. I think I have the flu, and I've never been sick like this before. Needless to say, this will be a setback, especially in the working out department. I've only been eating about 800 calories the last couple of days, and that can't be good. However, laying in bed probably doesn't burn too many! Bri--I also went off birth control pills two months ago after 10+ years. And, I am also doing Natural Family Planning. I can't believe how good I feel without the bcp and right afterward I lost about two pounds--over the holidays and a vacation. Hopefully this bodes well for you and your upcoming fabulous European honeymoon! After I recover from this illness (aka being hit by a freight train) I will re-set my weekly goal and start with a protein shake for breakfast every morning for a week, and I need to get my weekly mileage above 15 miles with my long run at 7-8 miles, in order to be ready for a 12K in about a month. Happy Wednesday and I hope everyone feels better than me! |

Official Wednesday weigh in
started at: 143# on December 28, 2007 current weight: 137.2# (again) goal weight: 130# by April 1 (mini-goal: 134.6 by the end of Febuary) rennai -- Thanks for posting pictures always great to get a face :) hbbroadbent -- I also look at models that are similar to my frame (figure models mostly, that are near my height and pear shaped) for motivation. I always finds it helps to concentrate on the positve advances you want to make instead just shedding that yucky fat. gretamarie -- sorry to hear you are feeling so bad, get better soon |

Hey guys! I'd love to check in here once in a while if you're still accepting new members... I'm about 5'6 and currently reside between 137-139, I think. I'm 20 years old and a college student. I am having trouble with motivation though, and I tend to binge if I get stressed or lonely. I think when I have time to read through all of your posts, I'll finally get some good inspiration! My ultimate goal weight is between 120-125...haven't seen the 120s for about 5 years though. :( EDIT: Lol, I just realized the first page of this post is from a year ago! Well, you probably all know each other but I can still just read through your posts and get my much-needed inspiration. |

Well, it's that time of the year, everyone is getting sick. I hope that you all feel better! I love the flurry of activity here. I also love the idea of wednesday weigh ins. Keeps us accountable. Offcial Wednesday Weigh in Last Wed: 130.0 Today: 130.8 (eek! super bowl gain!!) Goal Weight: 125 I really need to up my protein. I LOVE the bean salsa recipie, thanks Paula! I must say, everyone looks great already, so imagine how extra great you all will look when you hit your goal weight. |

leelee- we are always accepting new memebers. There are lots of new faces that just joined over the last few weeks and more are welcome. We are starting (again) official weigh-ins on Wednesday, so be sure to check in. I find it a great motivation to be good.
the key to success (as you acknowledge) is consistancy. There is no point in being good all day then binging on nights and/or weekends. To help with this i recomend eating 5-6 meals a day, schedule a controlled cheat once a week (like a snickers bar, slice of pizza or pancakes -- something bad but a controlled portion). also try to find replacements for you binges. I have almost eliminated TV watching in the evenings because I seem unable not to eat when i watch TV. Instead I go to the gym now. (I literally get home, eat dinner, go to the gym, come home, eat a snack and go to bed -- i eliminated the opportunity by packing my evenings) I am also horrible about snacking when i study. Popcorn or chocolate was my favorite. Now I always study with carrots of sugar snap peas (not as yummy) but I have actually come to like them as a snack. So try to find a substitute or healthy distraction that you can use. It is really hard to break the habbit of emotional eating. But I know you can do it and meet your weight loss goal. |

paulajmcd- I was born with hemihypertrophy which literally means "half excessive growth". Basically, it's just asymmetry between all or part of the body. Mine was just between my legs with a 2 inch difference in length and 1 shoe size difference. When I was 11 I had surgery on my right leg to fuse the growth plates and stop it from growing so the left could catch up. It worked, now i'm more symmetrical than most according to the doc. They estimate I lost 2-3 inches though. HAHA I'm 5'9'' as it is! collinsj617- I'm having the same issues :( I try to eat blueberries, dried plums and oatmeal to help out. I also bought Oroweat Double Fiber bread at the store the other day. 70 calories per slice, 6g fiber, 4g protein, 16g carb (not bad considering it's bread). I think it's great!! Blueberries usually help a lot, organic wild blueberries from Costco are my favorite, only 60 calories per serving and more antioxidants than the regular ones. I think I might try benefiber and my sister swears by flaxseed oil capsules. hbbroadbent- I too look for inspiration from models which isn't really that great I guess but they look healthy in pictures (to me at least). My favorite is http://imgmodels.com/results.asp?sexid=2&subid=2459& careerid=1&agencyid=9121 especially Almudena. Her nude magazine cover is beautiful, classy and somehow still modest. Welcome newbies! Love to have you and all the support! Jen's right as always, lots of healthy little meals really curbs the compulsion to eat. Also staying busy helps. Oh and seriously on the SHARI'S reference! I used to live in Oregon! Late night strawberry blintzes, shakes and the amazing pies were the norm. I was in high school though so it didn't do much to the body. My current weight is 130lbs, gw is 120 but I don't think my body wants it so maybe it's just 130. I'm going for look so my true goal is cardio and weights 3-4 days/week and healthy eating! |
