Congrats slainna that is AWESOME!!

i am very proud of myself, i did not gain anything over the thanksgiving week/weekend.  and it was torture, everyone at work was bringing in goodies and what not.  i choose to ate fresh fruit over indulging on sweets and i felt much better about myself at the end of the day!  I even lost a pound last week.  I read an article that said between thanksgiving and the new year the average person gains 5-10lbs.  that scared me...A LOT!!  I kept my caloric intake in check.   That is a lot of weight through the years if one does not lose it after the new year.
#662 jennisonamission Nov 25 2007 23:27

Yay slainna! Great job on your weight loss!! You must feel so proud!

lbaxleyl: That's really good you didn't gain over thanksgiving, because I sure did (back in Oct for the Canadian thanksgiving). Good work on the choices you made as well! Will power at it's best.

---------------------

I'm back at my 230, I think I was just retaining water or something in the past couple days. I had cake yesterday at my friend's birthday party.. and pizza.. but I worked out yesterday as well as today. Hopefully that levels it out! HAH.

How is everyone doing lately?

<3 Jenn

My goal was to be down to 300 by thanksgiving, and I really meant Thanksgiving 2007, but now I guess I will have to shoot for thanksgiving 2008.

Hello everyone. I'm sorry that I've been away so long but the last three weeks have been hectic. My father-in-law suffered a major stroke and died a week later after which I caught another serious cold and other stuff that makes me glad that November is almost over.

I haven't been eating as well as I should and I have probably gained a couple of pounds but now that I can breathe again I am back to being more fit than when I started.

I will have to try and catch up with the posts later.

Take Care

#665 jennisonamission Nov 29 2007 03:15

pam: don't get discouraged, keep on working hard and you'll get there in good time!

bigmommah: sorry to hear about your father-in-law, it must be a rough time right now. it's understandable that you gained some weight, stress is great at that.

-------------------------

Hope everyone is doing well, busy busy week, time for bed though. Happy wednesday all :)

<3 Jenn

I just joined this site the other day and I have 150lbs to lose....a very daunting taskFrown  Just wondering how I join this group.  I'm new on here and don't know how to navigate so well yet.
#668 mightyaphrodite Nov 29 2007 11:52

Here are some stats:

Starting Weight:  296 lbs

Highest Weight:  296 lbs

Height:  5'b

Age:  31

Dieting Attempts:  More than I can count

I did lose 80lbs once and kept it off for 3 years.....am praying to get that resolve back again......Please Help!!!!!!

#669 devbanana Nov 29 2007 12:39

So I started this at 253.2 pounds on October 21 (104.2 pounds from my goal weight). This morning, day #40, I weighed in at 232.6! I've officially lost a whole 20 pounds. :D I'm so happy.

Now, my BMI is 34.35 instead of 37.39 like it was when I started.

I don't know what my measurements are. I'm trying to get a braille measuring tape to start taking measurements.

And, this is 8.14% body mass lost. :D

Sorry, I'm a bit happy. Lol.

#670 bigbeautifulangel Nov 29 2007 18:26

starting weight - 317

Highest weight - 322

Height 5'2"

Age 30

I have hypothyroidism as well as insulin resistance (it goes along with pcos).  They both make it very hard to lose weight.  When I was in my low 200s I said I would never ever make it to 250.  When I got there I said I would never ever get to 300.  Well I'm there, and now I say I will not get to 350.  I'm going to work as hard as I can to lose weight now.  I have too, for my health.  I can barely take a shower or get dressed without getting out of breath.  I'm so sick of being fat and unhealthy.  I guess my first goal would be to get below 300, say 299 and never go back.  I'm on glucophage (metformin) for my insulin resistance and I hate it because it causes some undesirable stomach problems if you catch my drift.  For those of you who don't know what that is, my insulin levels are too high and it can actually cause you to gain lots of weight.  It's kind of opposite of diabetes but it can lead to diabetes.  Weird, huh?

If anyone here has insulin resistance or pcos and is on glucophage please let me know.  I need some motivation with this.  I just feel like it's no use to diet.

  1. Starting Weight (& day group joined)280 lbs, Nov 29, 2007
  2. Highest EVER:   288
  3. Mini-Goals: 1st Goal Weight: 270 by xmas
  4. ULTIMATE Goal Weight:  150 lbs
  5. Plan:  This is my 8th week of working out 3x per week.  I know I have been unrealistic about how much food I consume, good or bad, and have made every excuse not to do something about it.  I woke up today, decided I am worth the choice to do better for myself.  This site came to me so easily, and is incredibly user friendly.  I need the support, as just working out isn't enough.  Thanks for having this forum, hope I can help out as well.
#672 mightyaphrodite Nov 30 2007 07:08

Ok....I didn't give all my stats before :)

1.  Starting Weight/Day joined:  295 lbs, Nov 28, 2007

2.  Highest Ever:  295 lbs

3.  Mini-Goals:  Stick to my calorie requirements for the whole week

4.  Ultimate Goal Weight:  145 lbs

I'm only going to weigh myself once a month, since I find the scale sometimes demotivates me.  If I'm not losing fast enough or it goes up a pound I've been known to say "I can't do this, who am I fooling anyway".  Soooo to help with this negative thinking I'll only weigh in once a month and stick to other, un-weight related goals :)

#673 mightyaphrodite Nov 30 2007 07:16

Bigbeautiful...I hear you!  I've had PCOS for several years and have seen my weight get higher and higher...like an out-of-control frieght train with a mind of its own.  THis year alone I've gained 30-40lbs and last year I gained about 50lbs....

So I understand how it can sometimes feel like an uphill battle.  If I slack off for even a week, it's a big set-back(sometimes even as much as 6 or 7lbs).  I'm not taking Metformin although I have in the past, I was prescribed synthroid for a hypothyroid problem...(haven't been taking it in a while though).

I heard PCOS improves with weight-loss, so lets keep our fingers crossed that this is true.  I do think with this condition we'll always have to be very vigilant about our weight.  It sucks sometimes having to listen to people give me unsolicited advice about losing weight(I could prob.write several books on the topic), they don't seem to understand that it's more than a matter of will-power and sometimes stronger genetic forces play a factor too.

Hey everyone who is new!

Welcome welcome welcome.

My name is Jenn, I've been on CC since late August. I've lost 35 pounds so far, only 25 to go until I'm under 200!

This is a great support group, so I hope you guys are happy here.

Anyway, I'm off to class!

First, let me just say welcome to the new members. This is a great place to come for inspiration and motivation. The people here are wonderful.

Now, let me rant. I'm aggravated. We have a Biggest Loser contest here at work that was supposed to end today, the day BEFORE our big, huge drunk fest Christmas party. However, the official weigh-in scales were left at home. So now the contest is ending on Monday, AFTER our big, huge drunk fest Christmas party. I'm not usually a big drinker but I was really looking forward to letting loose and having a few (several) drinks. Now, I can't. Which is good in the respect of the long journey of weight loss, I suppose. But BLAH!!! It makes me angry. And to top it all off, our billing director is moving to a different office and wants to buy pizza for everyone today to say goodbye. How much will power is a girl supposed to have?!

Thanks for letting me rant. Have a good Friday!

Welcome New folks!

I started losing on October 4, found this site October 16 I think...Anyway, I check the forums regularly and find encouragement often!

And who else wants to hear about every single pound we've lost? (Well, my DH lets me inflict it on him, but he's part saint.... when he's not telling me how much he's lost - with no effort)

I love the weight chart with the trend line.  It keeps me going when the scale makes me grouchy.  Looking at my trend line, you'd think I was down to skin & bones by now!

How do you join?
#679 jelly1134 Dec 01 2007 16:47

Well....I know its been a while since I last posted....I think I just read through 6 pages of new stuff and man all I can say is welcome to all the new people and good job for all the hard work done.  I was in Kansas City the weekend of 11/10 and its been pretty much non-stop for me since then.  I have a full-time job and I work part-time at barnes and noble which I think is my saving grace because I do so much walking around the store that I think thats the only thing keeping me at the same weight.  Instead of gaining weight because of all the bad food choices I've been making (seriously I sat and watched the biggest loser this week while eating a quarter pounder from mcd....that's just bad).  But like I said I'm actually at 255 as I weighed myself this morning.  My goal was to be at 240 by xmas which would mean losing 15 pounds in 25 days....thats not really realistic but we'll see what happens.  I'm still gonna shoot for being 240 by that day but I will keep in mind that normal weight loss is 2 lbs a week.  Anyway.....I'm gonna try really hard to get back on the wagon.....so after I'm done here I'm going to go buy groceries because I haven't done that in a while and that will definitely get me back on track.  Good luck everyone!

#680 amk160 Dec 02 2007 21:36

Yay!!! to slainna!!!! and Congrats to lbaxley! Good job!!!

alldolledup-hang in there! retaining water bites, i went thru it last week.  Try drinking lemon water...

humorpam-you will get to your goal, remember it takes small steps, which you have been doing.  One small pound at a time and you will get there!  May i ask how close are you to your goal of 300?   How about setting a mini goal for new years or valentines day, st pats day, easter, memorial day, flag day. you get my idea....you can and will do this girlfriend as you have the power within you!

bigmommah--so very sorry to hear about your father in law, and being sick, doesn't sound like you have had a good month.  Hopefully December will be a lot better for you.  Sending a great big girlfriend hug!  And way to get back on the wagon!

mightyaphrodite--welcome to the site! i've got over 100+ to lose, and yes it can be daunting, but remember you will feel so much better in the long run. You and are at about the same weight!  And just remember to tag this forum so you can find us easier next time.   I totally hear you when you say it can be more than a matter of will-power and sometimes stronger genetic forces (my mom).

devbanana- Don't ever apologize for being happy!!!! You rock girlfriend, Big hug and congrats on losing total so far of 20#.  Keep up the great work for the next 20#.

bigbeautifulangel--we are in the same boat together, i am hypothyroid, as well as type 2 diabetic and take the same medication you are on, metaformin as well as meds for the thyroid.  Losing weight can be done, it can be frustrating, but it is possible.  I have been as high as 385, and am now 296, the lowest i have seen in 7 years.  And have had to learn lessons about how diabetes works with my body, as well as the importance of eating healthy, and eating breakfast.  Had to make some life changes, but has been worth it.  please hang in there.

kellahhh--welcome!!  Congrats on doing something great for yourself! Because you are worth it!

And welcome everyone else i may have missed!  This past week i lost some of the weight i unfortunately gained over turkey day. back down to 296.4.   6.4 away from my mini goal.....

Hope everyone has a good week...here we had our first big snowstorm! Laughing
