It gets to be about 95 or so, but very humid here in MA.  I find myself sitting in front of the window AC with the lap top on days like this.  Or I'll stay at work a little longer till it cools a bit.  I'm not a big fan of the heat, but it doesn't get too hot here.  Stay cool-Dianne

I find that there's nothing like working out when it's hot to make me appreciate not working out when it's hot.  Running around or wrestling around in a small room without air conditioning and maybe a fan makes just sitting around seem so much cooler.  I also am drinking a lot of cold crystal light...I wonder how it would taste as popsicles?

QOD JULY 7: What (if anything) do you like to grill/barbecue?

Mostly we do chicken, burgers, and steaks.

QOD JULY 8: Are you freaked out by bugs?

Not as bad as I used to be but if I'd seen that spider I'd have been screaming! Some bugs I like - they help defend my garden!

QOD JULY 9: (It's going to be 112+ here today, we're having a heat wave)What do you do to stay cool in the summer?

So far it hasn't been too hot hear this summer.  I've really been surprised.  Today was on the warm side with high humidity but for the most part our temperatures have been more moderate.  When it does start getting warmer I tend to try to do outside work in the early morning or late evening. The rest of the time I spend in the house/work with the A/C and fans (I like to have the air movement more than the cool temps).

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 10

Do you count/log things like condiments? Mints? Gum? Low calorie beverages?

Good Morning,

I don't log the incidentals, like mints etc.,   One of the things I've learned about myself is not to be too rigid, as I seem to rebel. When I first started to make changes to my lifestyle I needed to be more careful, but as time has passed I've had to relax a bit and ease into things.  I guess it's making the switch from thinking "temporary diet" versus a lifestyle change.  I think my past failed diet attempts have a lot to do with feeling like a failure and throwing in the towel.  It seems to be a work in progress- and I'm still working on finding a balance.  Have a great day All-Dianne

My wonderful DH Ron called at 4:45am Thursday (my time) to say HELLO from Germany! I totally forgot to ask about his injured knee and he didn't mention it, so I am thinking it is continuing to improve. He seemed most excited about getting to eat pizza, actually.

He HOPES to leave Germany at 10:00am Germany time on Friday,(about 1am California time) but he is traveling Space A on a Medivac flight to Andrews (near Baltimore), so he could get bumped. He will overnight in Baltimore and fly home to California via Phoenix on Saturday. (There are later flights to Jackson, MS and San Antonio, TX if he can't make the MediVac flight.)

For those who are interested, he traveled from Iraq to Kuwait to Germany on military transports... and is spending Thursday/Thursday Night in Germany at Ramstein AFB.

(I am now going back to bed!)

MOLLY

I don't log mints or gum, and usually not even low-cal beverages ... the exception is if, at the end of the day, I realize I've consumed a half-gallon of Crystal Light, that is 40 calories so I'll log that as a single entry.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- TUESDAY JULY 8

Are you freaked out by bugs?

I am totally freaked out about spiders!  I even have nightmares about them falling from the ceiling & it seems so real that I wake my husband to get them for me.

BTW, I should've NEVER looked at that pic of the camel spider!!!Surprised

WEDNESDAY JULY 9 -- QUESTION OF THE DAY

(It's going to be 112+ here today, we're having a heat wave)

What do you do to stay cool in the summer?

Go to the beach or pool or soak up the air conditioning.  I also drink more ice cold water.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 10

Do you count/log things like condiments? Mints? Gum? Low calorie beverages?

I have been bad at logging lately, but when I do log I usually don't count those types of things because I rarely have them.

No, I don't suppose that I do. But I also don't eat many things like that. I do occasionally chew gum but mainly if I forget to brush my teeth and am going somewhere. I keep some in the car for that purpose. Embarassed I don't drink sodas or flavored beverages hardly at all (used to be terribly addicted to them).

i do most of the time. if i have one mint in a day i might not, as i sort of think it would be pointless (they are 2 cals, and i guess it evens out with for example leftover yogurt in the tub etc). but condiments absolutely, even mustard and other lo cal things do contain calories.

as for low cal beevrages: i do not log diet coke if i have just one (1 calorie, same reason as mints), but i do log those fruit juices with sweeteners and water, as they have about 25 cals a bottle

I don't tend to log anything that is under about 50 calories in one sitting, unless I'm worried about being too high on my count.  Gum, a mint, a glass or two of crystal light, coffee, etc.  I do log estimates of how much milk I put in my coffee ~70 calories and the protein powder for my coffee ~75 calories.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FRIDAY JULY 11

What's your current favorite "ethnic" food(s)?

MOLLY

Thai pa nang curry!

For me, ANYTHING Thai!!!

(Tomorrow! He comes home tomorrow!)

Would sushi be considered 'ethnic'?  Because I'm going through a sushi phase at the moment.  But....seeing the 'thai' response, makes me think I haven't had good curry in a while.  The only thing about thai....I LOVE the thai iced tea!  And the half-and-half and sugar involved....ugh!

Congrats on the 'tomorrow', Molly.  I was once so eager to see my hubby (after doing a deployment to Afghanistan) that I flew to Baltimore where their military flight was coming in and greeted him there!

What's your current favorite "ethnic" food(s)?

MOLLY

Any type of Asian.  I most prefer Korean, Indian, and Thai.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- THURSDAY JULY 10 Do you count/log things like condiments? Mints? Gum? Low calorie beverages?

Not usually.   I probably should but I'm afraid that if I'm too strict about logging I'll end up not logging at all.  So since this is not a "diet" (nasty 4 letter word to me) but rather a lifestyle I don't worry about the condiments & such unless I know I'm having more than a serving or so.  I also tend to round most of my counts up when logging items I include myself so that compensates for some.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FRIDAY JULY 11 What's your current favorite "ethnic" food(s)?

Chinese! but I haven't had too many "ethnic" foods.  We don't have a huge selection of ethnic restaurants etc in the area.

Italian. I just love the nightshade veggies: tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, plus the cheese, shrooms, onions, garlic....

HI all!  I actually came back to see if Molly's DH was still on track to come home tomorrow and I'm glad to see that yes, he is!  Have a beautiful reunion Molly but I won't stop prayin' til he gets of the plane!

I have been very bad this past week and have not been logging my food.  The good news is that after almost two years of counting calories I have now gotten used to eating less, more reasonable portions and more healthy foods.  So much so that I think this eating healthy thing is becoming habit!  YIPPY!  This means that eventhough I'm not counting, I did not gain any weight and I feel good.  In fact I think I'm headed down the scale another lb. after this week, ok, maybe .5 lb but its something!

Ethnic food lately, Thai (namely Pad Thai, but I've also been doing Greek for lunch lately cause there is an excellent great rest. near where I work.  Central Gyro for all you Chicagoans.  You know you went there at 4AM after a night out at the bar, everyone did!  Anyway, Greek and Thai for today but ask me next month and I'm sure it will be different.

Hey everybody,

I'm taking 10 days off from weighing myself, and it's driving me a little crazy.  But weighing myself every day was driving me crazy, too, so we'll see what's worse.

On the last 2 QODs, I don't really log little things like condiments unless they have more than 15 calories.  That's my official cutoff for caring.  In terms of "ethnic" foods, they make up the bulk of my diet.  French, Thai, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, and Greek are my favorites.  If I had to choose an absolute favorite meal, it would probably be a big Lebanese vegetarian mezza spread (hummus, tahini, baba ganouj, fresh pita, tabouli, spinach pie, and falafel).
