Just about anything!  I get very excited to get the grill out and use it every summer.  I use my George Foreman indoor grill in the winter when I can't grill outside, but it's just not the same.

I love burgers, steak, chicken, corn on the cob & kabobs on the grill the best.

I love mesquite grilled anything! But we don't actually do much grilling ourselves. I wish we did more. But it seems such a waste to fire up the grill for only two people. And then there is so much food, I overeat.

But I love beef ribs with BBQ sauce, fajitas, steaks, vegetables, fish, you name it. Mesquite is the BEST wood and fortunately it is in abundance here in South Texas. My husband also likes to use pecan and we have plenty of that because we have a pecan tree. I like it but still prefer mesquite.

Do you put anything on your grilled peaches?

What do you marinate your tofu in?

How is the Tofurkey Kielbasa, anyway?

Grill - everything!! seriously  ... meat, veggies ... it's all good.

Barbecue - very limited things and only when I'm in the mood.  To me "barbecue" involves barbecue sauce, which is good on cheap cuts of beef, okay on pork and chicken, and way too strong for everything else.

I don't put anything on the grilled peaches, but I do spray the grill with canola oil, because they stick sometimes, which ends up a little messy.  I just cut them in half, take out the pits, and throw them on.  My tofu marinades vary a lot.  I usually use some oil (olive or sesame), something acidic (lemon juice, vinegar) and some soy sauce.  Then I throw in some garlic, fresh herbs, or whatever else I have laying around that smells yummy.  It's best to use extra firm tofu on the grill, so it doesn't fall apart.  I like to marinate it overnight so it gets lots of flavor.  The Tofurkey kielbasa is awesome.  So are the sun dried tomato sausages.  I like to cut them into chunks and use them in kabobs with lots of veggies, but they're good grilled whole, too.  They're way yummier than regular veggie dogs.

Happy grilling everybody!

I'm afraid to grill or bbq. I'm surprised i actually use the stove.

Mmmmm....LOTS of stuff!  Yesterday, we made our own whole-wheat pizza crust and made our own pizza on the grill.  Yummy!  I also love pineapple on the grill.  And asparagus.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- TUESDAY JULY 8

Are you freaked out by bugs?

MOLLY

* My husband proudly reported yesterday that he'd killed his first CAMEL SPIDER. Let me just say, "AAAAUUUUGGGH!" Apparently, they CHASE YOU so that they can "rest in your shade." (I would have a heart attack if chased by a giant, creepy sand spider!)

I would not consider myself generally "freaked out" by bugs. HOWEVER, that spider freaked me out! Surprised So do large flying cockroaches. Roaches are just grose! Most other bugs, the kind I see anyway, do not freak me out. And some I like. For example, the "lady bug". Smile

I have to agree with southern-midwife.  Bugs aren't usually a problem for me, but that spider is officially too big.  In general, I kind of like bugs.  I used to work at a nature camp, and I always signed up to teach the creepy crawly classes.  The only bugs I really don't like (besides that camel spider) are fire ants and mosquitos.

Oh, you can't possibly live in South Texas or you would have included roaches along with those ants and mosquitoes! Surprised I do have to agree with you about mosquitoes and fire ants are terrible, too.

QOD 7/4/08: I do not eat hot dogs unless they're polish sausage from costco or some kind of BBQ sausage that friends have made...too many calories for something that I just like.  Apple pie is not something I like.  Baseball highlites on the news are more than enough for me.

QOD 7/5&6/08: I'm doing okay.  I haven't lost any weight, but with the exception of one week when I was sick and one week when I was super busy I've made at least 3 BJJ classes and done a bunch of dancing.  I'm going to try kicking up the BJJ back to 4 or more classes, and continue eating healthy stuff.

QOD 7/7/08: I generally don't bother grilling or barbequing, I'm too lazy to pull the propane out and attach it to the BBQ, plus my patio is a mess from dust, dirt, leaves, and of course ash from the local fires.

QOD 7/8/08: I do not like bugs...the only good bug is a squished bug...especialy arachnids...especially if I'm wearing a towel.

That is the biggest spider I've ever seen and would surely scare the hell out of me if was chasing me around.  I'm not crazy about certain bugs like flys and mosquitos.

WEDNESDAY JULY 9 -- QUESTION OF THE DAY

(It's going to be 112+ here today, we're having a heat wave)

What do you do to stay cool in the summer?

I've found the best way to stay cool in the summer is to live in the Pacific northwest.  When we do have an occasional really hot day, I go down by the water where there is a breeze.  If that doesn't work, I go up in elevation.  Even in the middle of the summer, it's really nice up in the mountains.

I sit in the food court, where they keep the thermostat at 66.  It's really freaking cold in here.

But the high today is 88, and currently it's only 77, so I guess it's not really that necessary.

I think we must be not too far away from each other, because I'm in the same heat wave!  Only thing is, I've got ALL the nasty smoke to deal with as well.  Air quality is SO bad here that the air sensors are clogged. Staying cool isn't too difficult for me, because I love being in the warm.  But...today I'll stay inside (AC for filtering the air, not so much the cold!) and have popsicles (sugar free, 15 calories each!)

MOLLY

Well Molly, hearing about the temperatures in your part of the country makes me feel rather whiny to complain about how hot it gets here. We had a little break in our heat due to some long overdue rain but it still gets up to about 98 - 100 degrees here during the summer. And our humidity runs very high - around 70-90% sometimes. That gives us a heat index up to the 110's and more sometimes.

I have found that the heat isn't bothering me as much this year as it has in previous summers. I know it is every bit as hot according to all the weather repots. (My record $539 electric bill is proof of that!) But this year, I get up and walk every morning at 6 am. It's still hot but bearable. Then I also swim (water aerobics) in the mid morning. Being outside more than I have in the past, I think has acclimatized me better for the heat. I'm also drinking a lot of water. But I'm not going out much during the hottest part of the day.

I have the thermostats on my a/c's set at about 78 and this is much warmer than previous summers. We have several window units. We live in an old house that isn't that well insolated. So that's why our electric bill goes so high. But before this bill, the highest I had ever had was $350. My husband wants me to check to make sure they read the meter right. We don't know why it jumped so high so quickly.
