calling out to women 50+

Quote  |  Reply

I'd like to start this thread specifically for women who are 50 or over.

As a 53 year-old woman, myself, I am finding new challenges, unexpected difficulties and wonderful insights on my path to getting to and maintaining my health, weight and body shape.

What seemed to work for me as little as five years ago doesn't work quite the same anymore. My body doesn't seem to respond to what I consider healthy eating habits and good workout schedules as it even in my middle to late 40s'.

SO, I am would to hear from those out there who are finding themselves in situations. OR NOT, maybe you can enlighten the rest of us as to how you keep your shape, or how you're getting into better shape and a healthier overall lifestyle.

Hopefully this will be the start of something wonderful, educational, funny-offer up jokes anecdotes, whatever!

LET'S GET STARTED!

I just logged the same weight for the 4th week in a row. No change from June 28 to July 19. I guess those fries and mini donuts at the JT concert did me in. I also had a couple of indulgences in Starbucks coffee cake this week and even although my calories for the day never went very high, and were sometimes precariously low, there are evidently mysterious fat holding factors at work past the age of 50, over which we have no control. I think I'll just eat happy today and tomorrow and begin Monday with a new resolve, less stress, less sugar, nothing white, more protein, more exercise, more water, and Snow's attitude. How you rode in the car with the donuts and said no to the hot dogs etc etc, I am in awe of you, continuously.

Frost, your fixer-upper sounds intriguing. My daughter bought a couple of dive-ish condos in great neighborhoods the last couple of years and used her renovation skills and my design tips <ahem!> to flip them, just like on TV. This last one she decided to live in for a while and as a result the market turned a bit soft and she didn't make any money on it, although she lived in a very stylish place for a year. Nothing wrong with that. I think you have bought low at the right time, and getting a cute little place with that much land is a steal. You will make some money for sure. Try not to fret, although I know it is scary. I liked Robbie's tips for the decorating, could totally visialize them. I think I would chuck the avocado stove, (reminds me of my mother's old kitchen) or possibly spray it with enamel paint, white. I did that to my old 70's Harvest Gold (remember those!) hood fan and it looked unbelievably good.

Beth, hope that bra of yours is working itself in. It's because your shoulders have been hunched lugging the honeydews around for so long. I know how heavy they are. Time for hubby to give a few good back massages with aromatherapy oils I would say. You may end up grinning like Bon, who will undoubtedly return from WV with a new glow on her skin, provided her hubby shelled out for a clay mud bath in honor of their 9th, of course. No way was I suggesting it could be due to anything else <wink>.

Funny how as mothers our internal clocks become attuned to kids' and dogs' schedules and needs. I've caught myself many times the last few days automatically, blindly, doing and thinking things as if Harry was still here. I'm telling myself he was here for a good time, not a long time, and boy did he have a good time, each and every day. And so, I have bought new fabric for dining room drapes and seat covers that I have been coveting for ages, but had a terrible time locating, and suddenly, there it was, right in front of me, like a gift, the perfect thing. It will be a great diversion. Tonight I am going to go out and see the movie Mama Mia and drool over Pierce Brosnan. If any of you have single men friends who look and move anything like him, stick him on the Pony Express and point him north. I'll take care of the saddle sores once he gets here.

In 2 weeks I go for my quarterly checkup for BP.  If it weren't for BP I wouldn't care as much about losing weight.  I'm aiming for 4# off by then.  This is new weight which comes off quicker.

Just when I think I've conquered my worse habit (evening snacks) it comes creeping back in a very insidious way.  A handful of cereal, a little of this a little of that, a chunk of cheese and bam, my daily quota is over the limit.  The best hint I got on CC was to move my dinner time back.  Sometimes I'm too hungry and can't wait.  If I'm able to wait it does work.

It seemed like I did better recently when I ate fish all week.  It's really filling to me.  I got tired of it then but ready to have it again.  Right now am trying to talk myself into getting on my bike, but it's pretty hot out.  At least I got out early for my one hr walk/jog which was on a shaded path and enjoyable.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hey, all:

A bit of a change of topic. Last night, I had dinner with my hairstylist and her fiance, as I am going to perform their wedding in a few weeks. (I do that on rare occasion for people I like, not money.) They are getting married at the outdoor amphitheter on a local mountain, Flagstaff. It's not really a mountain, but a foothill, but if you're from Florida or Texas, you'd say mountain, too.  Anyway, I was helping them decide what to put in the ceremony, and they were so cute, all full of hope and expectation. Then, I realized her MOM was four years younger than I am (I had always thought of her more like a contemporary), and I had to catch my breath. I still look in the mirror some days and think, what happened here, and how did it go by so fast?

Bex: I've been wanting to see Momma Mia, too. The advantage of being single is that you can go see chick flicks and not have to convince husband to see it! And, sad as the reason may be, surely the dining room fabric was a karmic consolation for losing Harry. Also, I wish I could reproduce my weight log for you: it's a series of long plateaus followed by drops and then more long plateaus. Hang in there.

Frost: What's a beta fish? How's the clearing going?

Barbarriba: I agree with all who say 1400 is a good number. In fact, 1500 is working slowly but surely for me.

Snow: Two of the exercise tapes I bought are fun to do, and I would recommend them. They are both by The Firm. One is called Cardio Overdrive and the other is called High-Def Sculpt. Not much equipment needed--just some 3 to 8 pound hand weights. Let me know what you think if you try them. It's a good alternative for me when it's 90 outside. Maybe for you, too, Beth, when it's close  to 100 in Texas.

Off to the dog groomer--our 12 year old shepherd needs toe nails clipped and the Shi Tzu has matted himself beyond belief. Guess we'll shave him and start over. Never again will I have a dog whose hair requires ten times more attention than mine does..

TO SNOW FENCE & ROBBIE  thanks for the comments on my journal.

Yes, I finally got under 130.  I was hovering between 130-134 for so long.  It seemed no matter what I did, eat, not eat, excercise, not excercise the numbers weren't moving.

Also with this I am fitting into pants I couldn't even close over the winter.  Now, that is no so unusual as I've said I do put weight on every year.  The difference is the numbers on the scale are still relatively high in comparison to what I have been  the past few summers, and yet clothes fit.

My boyfriend hates that I have quite muscular shoulders and arms.  He thinks it looks very unfeminine.  Believe me, I am not all that big.  Yes, things are developed over time, but I am no hulkette!  It's going to have to be one of those things we have to just disagree on.  I'm trying to get him to agree to disagree and having trouble with that.  Well, I'm not doing t his for him.  I like this and all that is matters.

OK, off on to another direction all together.  I have a chronic problem with 'trapped intestinal gas' and going with it, constipation.  I don't eat the problem foods, and take OTC medication, both herbal and traditonal western medicines.

Do any one else here have this in a severe way like I do?  And if you do, what have you done about it.  Have you found a rememdy that works?  At times, and I kid you not, I look like I'm ready to give birth.  Maybe I've talked about this on this forum already.  If so, sorry.  I'm on several other forums and have rasied this issue several times and I have lost track where and to whom I have  done so.

I just quickly went over the posts here, without really reading many, and so many friendships are developed.  Great, aye? (that's the Canadian coming out in me!).

It's a freakin' hot and humid day here in T.O. With the humidex value it feels like 36C.  That's in the high 90's F style - 97F, actually.  And when it's humid, it is totally different than dry.

I know it wasn't long ago I was complaining about the cold, snow, bitter cold, windchill, etc.  Such is the way when living in a city that expereinces such extreme weather opposites.

To all the fabulous females here.  Rah! Rah. Sis Boom Bah!

one last thing, can someone recommend a good pilates dvd?

r

barbarri

you've come to the right place.  There is definetly a relation to weight loss (or lack of it) and age-over 50.  I am struggling to admire, or at the very least not dislike, what I look like.  I'm not overweight, just weigh more than I am used to.  And even with all the exercise I do, the extra layer of saggy skin gets no tighter.  HSSSing sound here.

I am sure each and everyone of us here looks much better than our foremothers did.  We have a lot of tools at our fingertips-like this website. And we can also talk to one another.  Knowing I'm not the only one with this 'over 50 conditon' helps, and that's why I started the thread.

As an aside, but for my son and myself it's huge.  He starts his first job on Monday.  He's 18 and yes, and never worked.  He'll be working on the computer-how perfect is that-on excel and Adobe Photoshop. He really doesn't have much experience on either, however whatever he did at his interview got him the job.  And then, on the same day-and this really is so important-nudge, wink-he went to see The Dark Knight.  Y'know Heath Ledger-the Joker, etc.  Totally made his day.

Good Morning everyone! We had a wonderful time away - golf, relaxation, fine dining and ... Winknot telling LOL ! It's always great to get away. I haven't gotten on the scale to see if it sabotaged my weight loss efforts or not!  Didn't really overeat but wine and dessert..ummm - oh well it was vacation and the Kahlua creme brulee was fabulous as was the wine Ialso enjoyed! Golf was great - the only drawback was it was VERY hot and humid! I told my hubby we should have gotten married in October or we need to go north for our anniversary instead of south!

Bex - My heart goes out to you for your loss of poor Harry. Losing a dog is like losing a friend - they are so much company. We're all thinking of you

Peg  My front porch turned out great and it was dry when we got home! Last time we painted it it waited about 5 days and it was still tacky so we sprayed it down with cold water! There is a camaraderie here that is encouraging and comforting to me. I feel I have friends here and I miss you when I am not logging in regularly. I totally agree -  I couldn't wait to see what everyone had to say while I was gone! Thanks for the compliments on my house - we've been working hard outside this year!

Alice - Where are you?? I hope you are feeling better and that the new job is going well.

Welcome barbarriba You should do well on here - it has really helped me see where my problem areas were. Some of us consume too many calories and some not enough or the percentages of fats, carbs and protein is not right. Logging your foods really does help you to see where the problem could be.

snow -Sounds like you had a good time at orientation and WOW keep up the "willpower"!!! Carrots and celery ! wow you are strong! When they first go away to college it's sad and it takes a while to get used to then somehow you adjust and they come home and you go like "when are they going back" LOL  When both my daughters went to college at the same time it left me with an empty nest - at first I just didn't know what to do with myself but you finally do adjust.

ohioI know you can do it with the weight loss! Then hopefully when you get your B/P checked it will be down!

one Glad your son got the job! And congrats on your loss!! Some of my shorts are fitting that did not fit 3 months ago but like you the scale still reads higher than last summer and higher than I want it to!

I called my daughter on Friday evening to check in - asked what she was doing she said I'm in the ER - she drank a latte made with soy milk and had a severe allergic reaction to it! She called her sister to take her to the ER and she spent 4 hours in there getting Epinephrine, Benadryl and steroids. Now I'm sending her to an allergist as she has been getting more and more reactions to foods that she never had before. We think she is allergic to pectin - can't eat apples, red grapes, plums. Also now allergic to almonds. Scary - she may need to carry an EpiPen - I told her in the meantime to carry Benadryl with her everywhere she goes and next time go directly to the ER don't wait for her sister!!

Ok off to shower to go play golf! LOL I have a match today for a tournament at our club.  Have to give my playing partner 9 strokes so... LOL that's a lot of strokes!

Hope everyone has a great day! Bex keep the quotes coming!

bonton:  what a scare you must have felt over your daughter.  Hope the allergist can pinpoint the problem.  I'm glad you had a great anniversary celebration.

Weight is down 1#.

Felt more strength yesterday on the bike.  Went 1 hr but on a couple of hills I refused to walk them and had so much pain in my thighs I thought I was going to be ill.  I kept remembering an old saying from 30 yrs ago when I first started running 'no pain no gain'.  Also I kept telling myself no one dies from pain in their legs.  But a tiny whisper went thru my head, 'yeah, but having a heart attack doing this hill in the heat is not a good thing'.

Today I'm going down near Zanesville and hiking a different trail.  It's not long enough to bother taking my bike.  I'm a little leery about riding on the roads down there because of dogs.  I figured that with all the chickens roaming around my chances of coming upon a loose dog are greater.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

One - my daughter was complaining recently of bloating and gassiness. She always took Gas-X pills for that but found they were not doing the trick. I suggested she might be lactose intolerant. She quit dairy, save for a tiny bit of cheese here and there, and started putting soy in her coffee. Worked like magic. Could this be what is happening to you? People develop food sensitivities sporadically in their lives. Look at Bon's poor daughter! Scary that!

Bon - I hope your daughter is all right after that trip to Emerg. Also, glad to hear you had fun on your vacation. I laughed like crazy when I read "dot dot dot, not telling". If you got to see Mamma Mia you will know why. I'll recommend the movie to all of you here. Great music, gorgoeus scenery, and never have I seen a cast have such a good time while making a film. Looked like they had even more fun than we did watching it. They were so full of life. It gave me energy, and today I feel much better.

Rebbex, You may be right about the milk. At different times I've thought of giving up milk but I like it and didn't want to give up the calcium. However, since I got the bad news about my cholesterol I've made some changes. My doctor recommended adding flax to my diet. I use ground sprouted flax. I take about 30 grams a day split between breakfast and lunch. It's high in calories. So, I had to cut something else out. I eliminated the milk I drink and started taking calcium. My digestion has improved tremendously! Don't know what factor caused it since I did both at once. But no more constipation and all the negatives that go with it.

I dropped my husband and older son off at the airport early this morning--they're headed to Alaska on a father-son trip. There's a great place to walk near the airport, along the harbor here in San Diego. I've been in a good mood lately. A lot of my cheer can be contributed to finally doing something positive about getting in shape. But this morning I was impressed with all the people out doing the same thing. My mantra lately has been "the party's over." Meaning no more excess in the way of too much fat, too much alcohol, too much sugar, etc. "Let the party begin" with new ways to enjoy good food and exercise. I've actually been enjoying food more, I think. Finding new ways to enjoy fresh produce and just being grateful for the beautiful, healthy food available to us. The other day I splurged and bought a box of raspberries just for myself, just as a snack. They were so incredibly beautiful and fragrant. Makes my mouth water just to think about them. And no guilt. They were expensive, about the cost of a bag of potato chips.

Well, that's my philosophizing for the day. Be well all you dear people.

barb, yeah!  lol  600 -900 is not enough & that's why you gain all your weight back after losing it & more.  1400 sounds awesome!  :D

frost, a cheerleader?  lol  thanks!  yeah, it's gonna be hard letting her go, but i know she'll do great & i just have to keep reminding myself of that, even though she's my baby & always will be.  there's only one left after her & i'm sure college is the last thing on her mind.

and yeah!  my 80 pounds will never be returning again!  not this time...  nope, i won't let it!  mainly because this was NOT a diet.  :D  i'll never be done.  i'll be done losing soon, but you can't quit a lifestyle.  it still amazes me that i actually like healthy foods now.

rebbex, don't worry, so you had a few days here & there.  no biggie!  now you just need to throw in a few good days in a row.

ohio, sometimes i eat late or too much, but it all manages to work itself out.  just try to remember that them healthy foods will keep you busy.  you'll be too busy chewing on them to eat other stuff.

robbie, wow!  you are performing a wedding?!  that's awesome!!!  i know what you mean...  :(  yeah!  where did all that time go?!  i'll have to check into them dvd's.  i need to use my weights more often anyway & get some toning here.

one, that's so awesome that you finally got under 130.  i hope you can stay there & go lower now.  i got under 140 & went back up.  i need to get some muscles like you have!  lol  i don't have any!

bonton, good luck with that golfing!  :D

Hi everyone, I hope you guys had a nice weekend.

Frost: Lochia for a fish name.... hmmmm... are you ready to explain it when people ask? lol I know a midwife who once had a bumpersticker that said "I support periniums" . She loved it until she had to explain it to a young boy who asked her what it meant. Embarassed lol

I love the picture of your house. It has lots of charm and should be fun to fix up.

Rebbex - My muscles are finally getting used to the new bra. Wink And my hubby does give great back rubs. We trade "rubs" every evening for 30 minutes each. We've been doing that for more than 20 years of our 35 year marriage. He likes his feet rubbed as well as his back. So I rub each foot for 10 minutes and his back for 10. But I like my entire 30 minutes in a back rub. We learned the hard way that I better rub his feet first because I often fall asleep while he is rubbing my back. So if I went first, he might not get his turn. lol

Robbie - Thanks for the tips on DVDs. I think I will need some variety when the summer is over and I can no longer do water aerobics (at least where I have been). But I do love my walking and plan to keep that up year round. Fortunately we have very mild winters here.

One - I envy your muscular arms! You need to show your boyfriend pictures of what flabby arms look like on women and tell him that if you aren't careful that's what your arms could look like without the muscle. I'm trying to work out with weights more but I'm so out of shape it is slow going. I don't know if it is too late to actually get some definition in my arms or not. But I sure want to try.

Bonton - I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's reaction to the foods. That is scary. Having Benadryl on hand is a good recommendation. I've been told by a doctor that just taking Benadryl can make a difference between life and death when there is a severe alergic reaction to something. So it's a good first aide kit item for everyone to have on hand. You never know when someone might react to something all of a sudden like that.

Glad to hear your porch turned out nice. Enjoy your golf. Smile

Ohio - Congratulations on loosing another pound. Your hiking and bike riding sure sounds like fun.

barbarriba - It sounds like you are on the right track and will be doing great. Your husband's trip with your son sure sounds fun. How neat that they are doing that together!

Snow- You've been doing great on your walking -- keep it up! Keep on encouraging us all.

Have a great week everyone,

Beth

ohioCongrats on the pound loss!

And yes I was really scared about what could have happened with my daughter. I don't think she realized how bad she was getting until her sister got there - took one look at her and rushed to the ER! She was covered in hives, swollen lips, itchy everywhere including her throat, very flushed but could still breathe ok although when I talked to her her voice sounded raspy like laryngitis. Is supposed to ck in with her Dr this week but I am having her call the allergist to get an appt ASAP!! I certainly don't want that happening again and I told her not to wait next time to go directly to the ER.

barbarriba The father son trip sounds really nice for the 2 of them. Our  10th anniversary is next year and we have been talking of doing an Alaska cruise.

beth Trading rubs - now that sounds nice!!!! My hubby always says his hands get cramped LOL

bex Still thinking of you. Hope each day is a little easier. Still loving your quotes! Your last one from Dale Carnegie - isn't that  the truth!!

I lost my match today .. oh well it's only a game - 9 strokes was just too many especially when she played well. Although I beat her on raw score - I shot 91 and she shot 100  - it was match play and she beat me 2:1. Now my best friend has to play her and give her 13 strokes LOL she'll have a rough time too! But I can't complain a 91 is a great score!

My poor hubby is prepping for a colonoscopy tomorrowFrown not fun. He has to be NPO after midnight and we don't go until 11 am - he'll be starving. He just asked me where I wanted to go for lunch tomorrow - already thinking of food!

I'll check in tomorrow - hope everyone is standing tall, thinking lean and exercising like an athlete!!

Good evening ladies!

Well, I've tried the lactulose test but that was some years back.  Maybe I'll try it again.  I do eat a lot of yogurt and I also put yogurt in my protein shakes.  And my favourite special dish for me these days is yogurt mixed with peanut butter.  Both organic and low or no fat.  It could also be the combinations of foods I am eating.  I've had this problem since my early 20's. I think I'll try some of the lactulaid product you take before eating dairy products before I totally give up.  I love these foods so much!

Glad to hear your daughter is OK, bonton.

I got on the scales on the gym today and was back up at 130!   I know I know I can't keep weighing myself because there are so many variables that can affect the number on the scale.

I only did weights today-for two hours! That included my abs and stretches, mind you.  I've always done cardio and weights.   Just wanted to do something different.  Actually I didn't even want to be there even when I was there.  So I just kept telling myself ok, just do one more exericse, one more rep.

As for my son - he came home from work exhausted!  With transit time, he'll end up with a 12 hour day-or close to it.  He'll get used to it.  After all if an 18 year-old can't do it, the rest of us are lost!  He works in the IT dept. of a company making nuts and bolts or something like that.

To all who come here often or not (like me),

keep on keeping on!

Still hanging at 126--as someone already said, a number that would have horrified me 6 years ago, but one I now find encouraging. But, gosh, does it have to be so darn slow? Back to work is tough after my illness and in this ridiculous heat, but I seem to eat less there than at home.

Bex: Thanks for saying you enjoyed Mama Mia. My friend saw it and thought it was only o.k., but I want to go anyway.

barbarriba: You made my mouth water with those raspberries. When my sons and their dad go away, I treat myself to artichokes for dinner. They'd be so disappointed if that's all I gave them--they're protein fanatics.

Ohio: I am pretty sure fish is great for weight loss. I found an easy good recipe for catfish. You dip 1 lb. thin filets  in 1 c low fat buttermilk, to which you have added a tsp each of oregano, chili powder and garlic salt, plus 1/2 tsp. hot sauce (Tabasco or Cholula). Then dredge in 1/2 c. chopped pecans mixed with 2 c. cornflake (not sweetened) crumbs. (I buy the already crumbled ones) Put on a wire rack on a baking sheet lined with foil and bake at 375 for about 30 minutes. All my boys love this and it's easy to make, especially for a good cook like you. Congrats on the pound down--it's all that exercise.

One: I have a Pilates DVD that I don't like, but if you go to collagevideo.com, they have lots of customer reviews of their tapes that help me a lot. And, I'm sure he has other good qualities, but your boyfriend's just wrong. Nothing is more youthful than toned arms! Your son's tiredness made laugh, remembering when my son was 18; he couldn't understand why he wasn't made CEO his second day on the job. :-)

Beth: Tom's using that one arm thing to get out of his share of foot rubs. Any bright ideas to punish him?

Bonnie: Your daughter's smart to get to the allergist. Once I fed my babysitter shellfish and she blew up, but fortunately I had Benadryl on hand. Scared me silly first. I'm glad you got your "money's worth" on the anniversary trip. I am impressed your hubby goes for the scope: no way I can talk Tom into it.

Snow: I know you're out there walking. Challenge month is flying by, isn't it?

Have a good week all.

robbie I made him go shortly after turning 50 because he has a lot of irritable bowel type symptoms. He mostly does what I tell him LOLWink he didn't want one but our Dr thought it was also a good idea so he had it. I had one last fall as I am adopted and don't know my family history - we're both heatlhy! He always goes around saying I never took so many pills before I married a nurse! but I come right back with - well you were a lot younger! LOL He developed environmental allergies at the age of 45 and is now on allergy shots... how can he blame me for that one! LOL

I'm still hanging at 122 - darn scale has not wanted to budge lately - and like so many,  that is a number I previously would have been horrified by! I set my "never go over this weight" at 118 in previous years now I just want to get back there!! I'm burning so many calories golfing not sure why it won't move.

It's late I'm heading to bed. I'll check in tomorrow

Hey robbie, that's funny that you have foods that you especially like, like artichokes, when the family's away. I do that too. I miss my husband when he's away. But it's good to have some independent time too. There's definitely things that I do when I'm on my own, things I enjoy, that I don't do with my family. I like to travel on my own sometimes. I love the leisure of just letting serendipity take over. No trying to please anyone else but myself. I love Hitchcock movies. So, one time I drove to San Francisco on my own and went to all the places you see in the movie Vertigo--wandered the graveyard in the Mission Dolores, went to Old Fort Point and the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Even drove down to the Mission San Juan Batista, stopping when I wanted to. Great fun. Of course what I'm doing right now, writing in this forum at 11 pm, is a bit of a guilty pleasure.

And bonton77, I wish I knew your secret to getting your husband to get check-ups. I can't even get mine to get his cholesterol checked--much less what your husband's going through!. My husband just says he'll eat what I eat and his cholesterol will go down too if it's high. He's always been pretty thin. In fact, that's one of my problems: I can't stand weighing as much as him when he's 6' tall and I'm 5'7."

A couple of you mentioned Mama Mia. My daughter-in-law invited me to go with her and her mom and our new granddaughter on Thursday. It's one of those "mommy and me" matinees. We'll see how it goes. We might be standing in the aisle walking the baby. She's only two months old.

I'm still feeling very upbeat this week. Wish you all the same!

oneis2many, thinking about the allergy problem. I've always heard that yogurt doesn't cause the same problems as milk. My mother worked for an Armenian family when I was a baby. They gave her some yogurt starter, and she began making yogurt for me when I was an infant. My mother didn't nurse me because of an infection she had. Anyway, she made yogurt that descended from that first batch of starter for years. I can still remember how good it was. A yogurt that comes pretty close is the non-fat Greek style yogurt at Trader Joe's. I love it! It's thick like sour cream. My mom finally lost her yogurt starter when we moved from one state to another. Always makes me nostalgic.

barbarribaI don't know what the secret is... I got him going to the Dr even before we got married! LOL He was really having bad allergy problems and breathing problems then and maybe that's how I got him started at the Dr. He had so much shortness of breath it was hard for him to play golf and work outside so he submitted to going. He honestly does it if I tell him he has to go LOLSmile Now on allergy shots, inhalers and cholesterol medicine. Our family Dr. keeps him going back every 6mo for check-ups! I'm very insistent about preventative health care! Why get something wrong that could have been prevented by a simple test??!! I get on ppl at work too WinkLOL to go get checked - taking B/P's for ppl - I have sent two to the Dr and both ended up on blood pressured medicine. The one had not been to a Dr. in 15 years! and I'm talking about educators. I don't understand why ppl hesitate to go. OK enough of my band wagon! LOL

So, what do you all think of this?

The young woman (I'll call her C) whose wedding I'm doing has a client who is very religious. C is a lapsed Catholic and her fiance is not at all religious. One of C's clients gave her a Marriage in God's Plan Encounter weekend for a gift. The registration for the weekend is $129, so clearly it's a nice gesture, but one that C can't use. C is upset and doesn't want to offend her client by not going, but her fiance says there's no way he's going to go. I think C needs to tell her client the truth, but she's worried the client will be offended.

OK, I have no quarrel with people who attend such encounters, but I think it's pretty cheeky to give one for a gift without knowing that the recipients views on faith are similar. I welcome an argument or suggestions for C.
