We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

2.4 miles for me for Wednesday.  I've been tapering down for my first half marathon tomorrow.  Hoping to finish in under 2:45:00.  I'm not the speediest runner out there, but I keep going, and going, and going.....:-)  I'll have to incorporate more speedwork this summer into my training for the marathon in September. 
Hi guys...so y'all haven't seen me on here forever...those of you who were here at first knew this, but I've been hiatus due to a stress fracture in my pelvic bone (good times, good times...).  I've been out for 6 mos, but have been recently released on a super limited basis.  So here I am! 

I've got a total of 4.5 miles for last week.  Not much, but it's all I'm allowed.  Boy, if I could only post elliptical miles...hee hee!  Anyhoo...there you are...I'll keep contributing what little I can!  :)

I actually started again about 3 weeks ago, but didn't think to post...1 mile every other day for 2 weeks...then 1.5 miles every other day for 2 weeks...blah, blah.  It's going to take me 8 mos to get back up to 8 miles!  Wow!  And even then only every other day, but hey, it's better than nothing!

Good Morning, and please add a glorious 13.5 miles for me today. Beautiful Friday morning run at dawn all the way out to the foothills of the Rockies. Long shadows, red rocks, green budding trees, clear blue skies and crisp, clean air.

Welcome back amycarlson! Good luck on the half mary kscout--look forward tohearing about it!

EDIT: Motionbased calculated the distance at 13.5---wow!

I'm back baby!  I took a few weeks off with shin splints and yesterday I went out for my first run in almost three weeks for 3.5 miles and I FEEL GREAT!

jfk -- Your run this morning sounds like it was absolutely fabulous!  There is just nothing like a run where it's just you and the natural world around you.  Thanks for the good words - I picked up my packet this afternoon, and I'm ready to run.

Welcome back amycarlson and bake7829!!! jfk that run does sound awesome and zen-like. kscout good luck today!!!! You'll do great! Let us know how it goes. I'm relaxing before my 9am 5 mile race eating some yogurt and bran thinking about race day rituals. I personally will only eat what I eat on a normal day, nothing more or less, and must eat it about 1.5 - 2 hours before the actual race. Then I slowly get dressed and do stretching/yoga for a good 15 minutes. Today I'm adding a warm up short run due to the stomach problems I've been having. (cross your fingers!)

What about everyone else -- any race day rituals you're comfortable sharing?

primadonna: The only thing I've learned is not to eat oatmeal immediately before the run :-).  Otherwise, I just keep up a positive self-talk ("I feel great, this looks easy...") and try not to forget to turn on my iPod after the gun.

skinny_kitty: Let me be the first (in my time zone, anyway) to wish you a happy birthday!   Remember, you're not getting older, you're getting into a much better age group for winning races.

Hi, 5.3 miles today.
9.5 verrrry slow miles for me today.  The wind was killin' me!

Results are in!!!

I finished the 5 miles in 45:24, a 9:05 pace. WHOO HOO -- this is 2 minutes off my time last year!! Overall, I finished 390 out of 714 runners, 126 out of 309 females, and 32 out of 67 females in the 20 - 29 year old range. I'm all set for Broad St next week (10 miles) and allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted today to celebrate... I also bought new shoes (not sneaks, shoes. hee hee).

So for today, I did 5.75 miles (with the warm-up).

BTW Happy Birthday skinny_kitty!!!

I ran in a 6K today, so only 3.75 miles.  And I have to take tomorrow AND tuesday off from running : (

And next weekend I'm supposed to do a 10 miler, but I'm nervous now that I won't be able to do it b/c of all the low mileage this week....

minie you'll be fine! Low mileage before the 10 miler will probably help you run all the better next weekend. If it makes you feel better, I'm also running low mileage this week, too (I think in prep for the same race, right? Broad St?)

primadonna98: Great job on the 5 miler.  Looks like your race day ritual paid off.  I also got in 5 miles on Saturday.  While I am pleased with the distance and growing endurance, you would have totally smoked me on a race course.  Best wishes on your prep this week and race next weekend.  

minie13: I agree with primadonna, you are a well conditioned runner.  If anything a lighter week will allow your body to be completely rested for the race and you will finish with a great time.  Ditto on the prep and race wishes. 

So to get me out of the house yesterday, dh sent me on a run with my tri coach.  Usually, she's fairly tough on me and I was surprised that the whole time she just let me go at my own pace and talked non stop about race strategy for the 1/2 IM next month.  Well, getting me out running was all just a ruse so that I could come home to a surprise party.  First time I've ever had one! 

That would be 6.83 miles for me yesterday -- 1st time running since the 1/2 mary.

jfk, you're right about the age category-thing.  I just wish I could wrap my head around 40.  Before I leave the 40-44 age group, I do however intend to see the view from more than one podium in the half or whole distances.  Oh, and I love the Colorado race idea!  It's just too far away.  I adore uphill biking and when I lived in the South of France I was super happy with the elevations out there -- what we call a mountain in Quebec, they call a hill.  I think that must be the same deal out where you live.  Have a really good time; your Cervélo will just suck you forward and take you along for the ride...pedalling optional?

Happy birthday, Skinny_kitty! I'm sure you'll see the view from many podiums in the next few years. That's the best thing about getting older!

Good job on the race, Primadonna! My race day ritual is to get up as late as I can and still eat half a banana 1.5 hours before the start, stand shivering and miserable with hundreds of other runners in the pre-dawn dew, and then run my ass off. I don't like races all that much, to tell you the truth. Once I start running then everything's fine, but before that: crankiness.

Welcome back, Amycarlson! Glad you're all healed. When you got hurt, I was really hoping you'd come back to us, and here you are!

Not much exciting happening with me. Ran 9 days in a row, so yesterday was a well-deserved day off. Otherwise, just truckin' along. Happy Monday, everyone!

primadonna -- great job on the 5 miler - I admire your speed. 

I had a blast running the Derby Festival MiniMarathon on Saturday!  It was my first big race, and I trained for the last nine weeks to prepare.  Wasn't looking to set any speed records, wanted to finish, and finish in less than 2:45:00. 

The results are in:  Finished in 2:32:54, came in 6398 out of 9385, was 2741 in my gender division, and 283 in my gender/age group division.  Had a pace of 11:40 minutes per mile, well below my 12:00 minute per mile pace.  I'm happy!!

Next up is the United States Air Force Marathon in Dayton, OH on Sept. 20th of this year.  Training logs are in progress, plan to incorporate more speedwork, and will try to lose forty pounds to lighten things up a bit.  Never before did I ever envision myself making the decision to run 26.2 miles - but I'm there - and, oh, it's a great place to be!!

Please log 13.1 great miles for me for Saturday! :-)
