| Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club | ||
| May 30 2007 23:53 | ||
| I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". . I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years. Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10). I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons. I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably. I may want to go on to a size 6 next. I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated. Maybe we can share ideas and recipes. Let me know if you are out there and interested. |

Hi Everyone,
So glad to have found you all. I'm 41 and weigh 134. I would love to lose that last 10. I'm one of the fluctuators on weight, and that can be deceptive, I think I'm doing great and then !wham! back up 4 pounds from one morning to the next. I am trying to eat more heathfully and stopped alcohol last week to try to see if that has slowed me down. The whole "over 40" thing on the weight loss thing is too true, sadly enough. Rode the bike for 20 miles this morning and did 25 minutes on the treadmill tonight. thanks! I can go about 4 pounds pretty easily one morning to the next. I just cut out alcohol last week, and am trying to jumpstart my metabolism a bit that way. I've been reading about what it does to weight loss and hope I can keep up being a tee-totaler for awhile and I was 133ish this morning. At 127 my pants are fairly comfortable, at 135 I'm decidedly more pearish. I'd like to be 122-123. I'm 41 and if I get thinner than that (only happened once in the past 10 years, trust me) I start to look a lot older :) I did 45 minutes of weight training at the gym today, no cardio. It's been raining so much here, it's been hard to get out on my bike. My husband's a big cyclist, so it's been fun to join him, but I've only been cycling for about a year. |

bikegirl25 - I know what you mean about +/- from one day to the next.... usually between 4-7 lbs, so it gets discouraging. I am trying to cut out the alcohol while I am trying to lose the last 10, and use it as a treat on special occasions.
thanks everyone for their posts.......... I did not run today, and when I got home this afternoon, I wanted to take a nap, but all of your encouragement made me take Ally and Yukon out for a 2 mile walk.... granted, it's not running or biking or burning a zillion calories, but I got out there. Now I am back at work on midnights for a week.........................yes, only a week, just enough time to destroy my body and make me want to eat all the time! Question: So I had around 1,600 calories today.......... Now it's midnight, so technically, it's a new day..... but if I start eating NOW, I am sure to go over my limit by midnight tomorrow..........I have 3 more nights of this, any advice? a |

amyb you got me scared now! i have no idea what they BRUSH on the kebab.... there is plenty of small booths selling kebabs here, it's pita bread, chicken, cabbage salad and chili sauce.
and tonia i just checked how many cals it has according to other websites not cc, omg, it's such a number i can't even say it our loud. quitting kebabs since now! and about your trip, uh, that is what always sabbotagges my efforts, i don't want to be rude and turn down food that someone offers me, i usually come up with some lousy excuses, like i have a liver problem and therefore am on special diet. i find people react badly when you tell them you wanna lose weight... they keep saying, oh you don't have anythin to lose... and yes i do have 10lbs to lose! (and if i ever get to that goal i might want it even lower) hi Christianna welcome, nice you joined. hm maybe try posting your question also as a new thread than you will get more, answers, looks like you're having a lot of sweet treats and lots of carbs, but i don't really know if that is something bad for your health, just an observation, i think if you're naturally thin your bady needs that kind of fuel :) i was over my cals yesterday, but within mainatance, i just needed something sweet, most of my furniture are in my appartment now :) |

Hey guys!
Stuck to my plan on 6/6 and the weather in central PA is gorgeous! It certainly makes it a whole lot easier to work out when it is sunny, warm and low humidity. AmyB, As for the bike ride, I would go with 40 miles. An extra 20+ miles is a lot of extra strain on your quads and back. Good luck! My goals for today include eating under 1400 and doing a long run(60 Min) Good luck everyone. Have a great day! Di |

Hi All,
Amy- about the 12 midnight-- Following is something new I am doing that a doctor and fellow triathlete taught me. It might help you with your flucuating hours.... I have taken my daily calorie goals and broken them up by hours awake, for example: Daily calories 1400 6:00 am 100 calories 7:00 am 200 calories 8:00 am 300 calories ....fill in the hours between 8 and 6pm at 100 calories for each hr 1:00 pm 800 calories 6:00 pm 1300 calories 7:00 pm 1400 calories Therefore, if it is 8:00 in the morning and I haven't had breakfast yet, I plan to eat around 300 calories. I may or may not eat the 300. But lets say that I eat 250 calories at 8:00 am and I am hungry again at 1:00 pm; then I know I can consume 800-250=550 calories for lunch. It looks more complicated than it is.. it is actually quite simple. Therefore, if you are on the midnight shift... your awake hours might look like (i've never been on a midnight shift, ick): 10:00 pm 100 calories 11:00 pm 200 calories 12:00 am 300 calories (so at 12:00 am your hungry, eat 300 calories or less) ... 5:00 am 800 calories etc. ( at 5:00 AM 800-300= 500 calories) Then, by the time you go to bed again, you will have consumed your calorie goals. Hope this helps... Christianna, Welcome My opinion of your diet: I don't see any vegetables and only one serving of fruit. I would try another serving of fruit and at at least two servings of vegetables. The 4 oz of protein looks good. Is the lentil soup homemade or from a can? Is the rice pudding home made or from a can? Got to get off line... bye |

June 7, 2007______________________________________ Didn't exercie as planned due to a cold, but kept my calorie consumption at 1295 which is on the low side for me. I did well overcoming my challenge today when I ate out at the new resturant with my friend. Had tuna salad in a tomoato. Afterward, I asked the chef how much mayo they put it in...it's a good thing I'm not counting fat grams! June 8, 2007- Friday Exercise: walk for 45 min.; upper body workout- low intesity for me because I am not feeling 100% Calories: 1400 Have a great day! Greatest challenge: #1Have an extreamly busy day working and running errands running errands and sometimes I forget to eat, then I feel famished and I'm tempted to eat anything that's not moving. #2 Getting my behind out of bed at 5:15 am to exercise |

didn't do a double workout today, but I did 7 miles before work, which for me is great!
Thanks for the ideas on the calories/hour... I am going to try it tonight. sorry you don't feel well, toniahayes, keep the fluids going in! Christianna, I have to agree about getting enough fruits and veggies, and what kind of serving sizes are we talking here? Lentil soup can come in a gallon container... so can rice pudding, and I would eat ALL of it if it were me, I LOVE rice pudding... my mom makes hers with CRREAM, so it's really wonderful.....and Fattening. sorry eugrrrlll, didn't mean to scare you, but I just thought if they wanted to keep the chicken from getting too dried out, they would brush it up with oil or some kind of fat... that's usually what makes them taste so wonderful! good night all!! Have a wonderful Friday (I will be sleeping!) |

I can't believe the weekend is upon us already. Tomorrow in the mid-atlantic it's supposed to be close to 100 degrees, so keep cool, tonia! June 7: did a double workout and 30 pushups. Stayed within my calorie goals. I think the pushups are making my arms look better, but I also could be imagining things! June 8: Calorie goal: 1300. Exercise: 1 workout + pushups. Greatest challenge: getting enough sleep and enough water! Good night! |

morning ladies :)
just about to do the pushups, but decided to post first. so as for yesterday, June 8, well, we went walking in the nearby national park for like half the day, the second half was spent in the church of course... i had all my cals planned out and did really not bad, though by 7pm i felt a bit famished, as i realised i should count the cals in my flavoured water and it turned out to be, hm, 200, which i never counted before, so yesterday i did, and i didn't have much left for dinner, anyway i was within my limit and at 7.30pm my bf - the skinniest thing on earth, and his sister (5'2 and 90 lbs, naturally, grrrrrr) and her hubby announce they forgot to tell me i'm invited to dinner to their parents, 8 pm that night. three deep breaths i didn't freak out i didn't run i didn't scream, i smiled. so i had about 500 cals there but i turned down the ice cream! which was really an achievement, not becasue i refused myself ice cream, i actually don't like ice cream that much, but because i contradicted my bf's father which is a very scary thing to do! well, you know he's a nice guy, sort of, but he's this kind of person who always makes you eat something and gets offended when you refuse....and he already had a hard time accepting i'm vegetarian.... anyway.... my weight is slightly up this morning... have a godd day :) |

eugrrrlll,
good for you!!! I know exactly what you are talking about! 1. - what Nat'l Park? We are NP freaks who travel around the country on our vacations to hike, etc.... been to Zion, Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton...... 2. Don't beat yourself up - refusing ice cream IS a big deal! I am not a huge ice cream person, however, "when in Rome", and my beau loves it! I hear you loud and clear about the getting offended if you don't eat, vegetarian stuff. When I cut out red meat, (and for a time all meat) I would get awful looks from both family and friends.... it made me crazy. Try this: if you know that someone is going to have a hissy fit and make a scene, and you just aren't in th mood to explain, justify, argue, etc--- just take a little bit of everything, and then don't eat it! at first I thought this was just a horrible waste of food, but when I can't bear for my mother, aunt, or cousin to make a big fat hairy deal, I do this, move it around on my plate, and then say I'm not super hungry. (for me, the added benefit of something gross dripping off the poor dead animal leaking onto some other fat laden delicacy on my plate makes me have less of an appetite. I realize not the best, but,....... for emergency use. for 2 years at Thanksgiving, I didn't have turkey and no one notices. Then my brother, well meaning though he is, starting talking about~~~~ well, if you are a veggie, what are you going to do about dinner? I told him (and everyone in the kitchen who was listening) that for 2 years I did not have any turkey and no one noticed.... of course this year, I was on display at the table, with everyone asking, "are you sure you don't want something else? Are you going to get enough food?" ARE YOU KIDDING? It's Thanksgiving in the Sweeny house, there's enough food to end world hunger! (stepping off her soapboax) enough said~~~ Good job yesterday~~ make today even better! (and stop drinking 200 water--- that's not water, that's soda!) |

hey everyone!
It is so much fun reading everyone's posts and laughing about their situations which mirror my own. I am a veggie in a house full of meat eaters and it is sometimes quite humorous. I stopped eating meat in 1997 on the advice of my rhematologist. I have rhuematoid arthritis and he felt that the hormones, animal fat, and other factors in meat triggered my flare ups. I give myself injections of Humira and still eat no meat and I feel pretty good. Anyway, today it will be hazy, very hot, and humid in PA so I am looking at a bike ride and a swim for today! It is not that hard to stay within my 1400 calories on this kind of day. UGGGH. Di |

Amy,
Sounds like a great couch day. You've earned it! From what I can see from your posts, you really have worked hard this week. Just try not to eat like crazy... which is what I would be tempted to do. I've already reached by calorie limit for the day and I'm ready to drink another glass of vino... I tried on bathing suits today and actually found a couple of suits that looked decent. That makes me want to go take a hot bath and drink a cup of herb tea instead. Plus, writing in the forum had given me incentive to control myself. Amy, Do you think that Fridays are hard days for us? Maybe a time to self-medicate??? |
||

toniahayes,
if you're looking for an enabler, I'm here to help. You have done great this week, so a glass (or 2) of wine won't kill you. For me, Saturdays are the hardest (I work Tues-Sat) when I get home, I just want to unwind from the week and let loose. I am already planning on a little self-medication tomorrow. Take it easy tonight, know that 2 glasses of vino can't make that suit look any different physically, but it certainly can play tricks on your bathrooms scale..........don't do anything silly like weigh yourself tomorrow... and NO snacking!! If you can't control your eating, then NO wine! (do I sound convincing enough?) I am pretty good on eating today, abbout 1350, and for me~~~~ the human garbage disposal, that's good. tomorrow morning a quick walk w/ the mutts when I get home from work, sleep for a few hours, a nice 3-4 miler, and then off to see some friends and go to an outdoor concert.. Have a great weekend everyone!! Di, I'm in Upstate NY with the same weather pattern..... good luck on the bike ride, the golfball sized hail put a stop to mine |

GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!
ttotm! period today or tomorrow! so what happened yesterday, hm, chocolate chip cookies happened, 8 of them and a 3/4 of chocolate bar, oh well, justified... :) besides i had a very nice girls evening yesterday, buying clothes and make up stuff amy -- i live in Eastern Europe, you might want to check out the NPs here! they're nothing like those in the US though, i mean i was only in the Arches NP, Nepali coastline in Hawaii, if that is an NP and in Montana, but the NPs here are like huge primal forests with lots of animals mostly not occuring anywhere else, the nature is not so diverse as in the US. i can't get around my exercise lately casue i'm refurnishing my apartment and that's really preoccupying me... hope it's the last day today, but i did something really good yesterday - i prepared a meal plan for 30 days :) starting Monday! this should really have some effects! that is crazy how people react to not eating meat...especially you know i don't want to be rude but i also want to be respected! sometimes i think i should take on their attitude but in reverse and start lecturing them how red meat is unhealthy and stuff... have a nice day girls! |
