Looking forward to in July...finishing a work project...keeping my workouts steady...just moving along.

Olives - I used to hate them.  Then I kind of liked the green ones soaked in chardonnay.  Now I kind of like the black ones in a greek salad.  I don't mind them on pizza, but unless they're mixed in with stuff like a salad I won't eat them.

I can tolerate black olives on my pizza, but I'll pick them out of a salad.  Green olives - absolutely not!  Olives are one of those tastes that can "poison the well" for me:  you know, it gets its taste funk all over everything, then all you can taste is it - the offender is gone, but the memory lingers on. Tongue out

QOD JUNE 30: What are you looking forward to in the month of July???

Fresh veggies from my garden.  The first zucchini & cabbage are almost ready to pick and I've got tomatoes, green peppers, okra, cucumbers, and various squash that should be producing loads of fresh veggies for my meals during July and August. Also looking forward to losing some weight in July.  June was a very slow month only 2 lbs lost, but hey at least I lost instead of gaining!

QOD JULY 1: Olives ... love them? Hate them? Grossed out by them? Do you pick them off your pizza? Do you eat them off your fingers? Green or Black?

I can tolerate on a pizza if there aren't too many, although I usually just pick them off. Otherwise I just can't handle the taste.

I love olives.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: MONDAY JUNE 30?

What are you looking forward to in the month of July???

July 4th is my Husband & Mother-in-laws birthdays!  So, we will be celebrating with fireworks and cake Undecided.  Also on the 4th my youngest is in a cutest baby photo contest.  I wish I knew how to attach photos to this, I would show you the photo I entered.

July 21st is my stepson's 14th birthday so another cake will be involved.  The good thing about me being around cake, I hate icing, I scrape it off and just eat the cake!  That saves tons, I'm sure!

July 19th I am going on a much needed girls night out to see the Thunder from Down under...Definitely look that one up if you don't know what it is!!! Wink

AND OF COURSE...looking forward to losing more weight!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - TUESDAY JULY 1

Olives ... love them? Hate them? Grossed out by them? Do you pick them off your pizza? Do you eat them off your fingers? Green or Black?

I love green olives & hate black ones!  I pick black olives off anything they are on.  When I was little I sucked the pimentos out of the green olives.  And I did not know until I was a teenager that an olive is actually a fruit! LOL

QUESTION OF THE DAY WEDNESDAY JULY 2

Are you facing any dieting / healthy eating challenges for this upcoming HOLIDAY WEEKEND? (barbecues? parties? vacation? family gatherings?)

MOLLY

Well, none of my friends really seem to celebrate the 4th of July with any big events or parties. And since my wonderful DH is still in Iraq, it will pretty much just be an ordinary Friday / Weekend for me. (Of course, our 104-105 degree forecasted high temperatures will be .... ummm... dreadful!)

BUT ... (and this is a big BUT) ... my wonderful DH is scheduled (tentatively) to be home by .... (drumroll please) ..... July 12!!!! That's just 10 more days! Oh my goodness!!!!!! How in the world will I survive the next 10 days!??!?

MOLLY

This week-end should be pretty normal.  I'm just looking forward to not working on Friday.  I think I might take a ferry out to one of the islands and go for a hike.  I've been doing longer walks lately, and they've really helped me shed the pounds.  I'm finally really out of the 240s and securely in the upper 230s, so I'm feeling extra motivated.

Nothing new.  My parents are in New York to see other family.  I'm in NC.  Makes things a little easier.

QUESTION OF THE DAY WEDNESDAY JULY 2

MOLLY

Hi Everyone,

I just got back from being gone for 5 days on vacation. So this sure was an interesting question to read the day I got back on the computer.

No challenges for the 4th. But my vacation was a bit of a challenge.

It sure is nice to be back home. We had a lot of fun seeing our family that is scattered across the Lone Star state. I managed to walk almost every day and even twice on one day. But I know I didn't get as good a work out every day that we were gone.

After the first two days on vacation, I gave up on counting calories. But I did my best to eat clean. It wasn't easy all the time. Everyone wanted to feed us. But for the most part, I think I did okay. But it's good to be back in complete control of my meals again. I went shopping this morning and spent over $80 on healthy food. (mostly produce plus some fish) My frig was totally empty.

I drug myself out of bed this morning to go walk. I almost didn't go but then reminded myself that I've never regretted going when I didn't feel like it. But I've almost always regretted not going no matter how good the excuse. I felt better after walking but I was more tired than usual. I skipped my water aerobics because it was very cloudy and starting to rain. So I assumed they were going to cancel. But I have to admit that it was easy to just not go. I've got a ton of stuff to do today to catch up after vacation. Tomorrow is a prenatal day. So, I have to be ready to go back to work.

I've lost 1.4 lbs while gone which isn't bad but not as good as I've done before. Perhaps now that I'm home I can focus better on what I need to do.

MOLLY

This question kinda ties into the one about the month of July for me. Two Birthdays on the 4th & 1 cutest baby contest on the 4th. The 3rd & 4th are both busy every year in my town, they have festivities at the lake that includes food vendors, mmmm the smell of carnival food. I think I will go for the grilled chicken kabobs, delicious!!!

I am still maintaining my weight at 229, I sure hope I see a change by Friday (my official weigh in day)!

Oooh...it is going to be a busy and challenging holiday weekend!  A night at a ballgame, a barbecue.  Thankfully, my husband is doing CC too, so we'll attack it together.  (Hopefully not in a negative way!  You know..."go ahead, one hot dog and beer won't hurt")

Actually, we're discussing it and planning it, so I feel we'll be prepared!

TEN DAY COUNTDOWN! TEN DAY COUNTDOWN! TEN DAY COUNTDOWN!

Ten days from now is Saturday, July 12, 2008.  July 12 is a special day for us, because on July 12, 2002 (6 years ago), my wonderful DH proposed to me in the dining room at the Awhanee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. At the time, we'd been courting for just 5 weeks ... and of course I said yes! (I cried through the entire proposal, actually!) We later returned to Yosemite (and the Awhanee Hotel) for our Honeymoon in 2003.  Anyway, my plan for Saturday, July 12, 2008 is to hop in my wonderful DH's Explorer, drive across town to the airport, and .... ummmm.... POUNCE ON HIM WHEN HE STEPS OFF THE PLANE!  (Of course, there may be delays, etc ... but this is his tentative schedule!) Since he has a lot of combat missions to fly between now and then, please please please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
Hi All,

Beth, I like your reasoning... never remember feeling bad when you walked but the opposite when you don't.  I'm going to use that the next time I feel like staying in bed.

Molly, that's great that your DH will be coming home shortly. The sacrifices that our nation's men and women in the military(and their famlies) make are remarkable and particularly noteworthy as we celebrate our independence on Friday.

Speaking of the 4th and the QOD: I will be hosting a cook out and expect to go off a bit.  I'm going to have a big fruit salad and lots of veggies so hopefully I can keep the snacking to a dull roar.

This is my second day of being back on and resuming weight loss.  I gained about 2 lbs. during the past few weeks and am surprised that it wasn't more.  I can see how easy it is to slide down that slippery slope.  It's so easy to convince myself that it's only a few days and even if I gain a pound or two- not a big deal. The problem is one day seems to lead into two and so on. Ahh... the battle goes on.

Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend-Dianne

Olives....mmm, I love black olives.  Not as crazy about green.

Challenges for the weekend...probably so.  I'm off to my grandma's for a big family get together.  There will be big breakfasts, a fish fry, cookout, homemade icecream...you get the drift.  I'm just going to stick to the "everything in moderation" motto for the weekend and make sure and take some walks.  :)

Enjoy the weekend, and dare I say it?  God Bless the U.S.A!

QUESTION OF THE DAY THURSDAY JULY 3

Are you nuts about nuts? Do you eat nuts? Nut butters? What about seeds? Sunflower seeds? Pumpkin seeds?  What do you DO with your nuts n' seeds?

MOLLY

I only like a few kinds of nuts..peanuts, cashews, almonds, pecans & macadamia.  I used to love sunflower seeds, but not so much anymore.  Now, the only time I use nuts is in a recipe.

QOD July 3rd:  Yuppers...I'm nuts about nuts!  I love walnuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, almonds, pistachios, etc.  I love to eat them plain, in salads, or on the top of a dessert.  :)

I love all types of nuts, but I mostly eat almonds.  I like to put walnuts in my oatmeal.  I have heard  that nuts help to fill you up, but unfortunately I can eat way too many before that happens.

I love nuts and most seeds, too. I love them in things and alone.  I try to eat them as a high protein snack and in quantities that I know are healthy for me. If I'm not careful, I know that I could eat too many too fast and the calories really add up quickly. I love them added to a salad.

We have a huge pecan tree in our back yard that gives us a bumper crop every other year. Smile
