weclome amk160!

We are in the same kinda weight range, I'm sure you can reach your mini goal 275lbs by the end of the year!

What is a lawc program? Never heard of that.

Hi everyone.

Sorry I haven't been that active lately, I have been swamped with school.

Here's how my past few days played out:

Halloween night my boyfriend and I had a huge fight that didn't get resolved until 1am, and I didn't get that much sleep.

November 1st I started and finished my psychology assignment, had a test in the afternoon, then classes until 6, got home and started my history essay due the following day, fell asleep at 2am.

Today I got up at six, did the bibliography for the history essay, classes 8-11am, finished my history essay, classes 12:30-3:30, grocery shopping, and now I'm HERE.

I hardly ate at all the last couple of days I've been so involved in my schoolwork. Tomorrow is the 5km walk (approx. 3.2 miles) for the Road2Hope marathon (yeah, not doing the that, lol).

Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hi. I'll try and check in when I have time!

lawc is short for la weight loss center...hubby had bought me a program, so working that, came across this as well, so thought i'd join the two together.  They have 2 weekly weigh ins, and no weekly meetings.
I absolutely love this site!  I feel so at home here, and its nice to listen to people with serious weight issues who are actually working to become healthier/thinner.  It has been 6 weeks since my fiance and I started working out at the gym and eating healthy.  And we can see such a difference in our bodies already. I started at 289lb and my goal is 140lb.  I know it will take awhile, but thats ok.  I would rather do this the healthy way. I have lost 20lbs and he has lost 25lbs.  I have visible muscle in my arms and legs!!  And my back role is getting smaller and smaller!  I go to the gym 6-7 days a week.  I generally don't like to skip a work out, i feel guilty.  Tonight was a true test of our will power.  We didnt feel like cooking and said lets order something.  We looked at a few pizza menus at home and both said god no...we will feel SOOO crappy from the grease, and even more crappy knowing we just consumed 1000+ calories in one setting.  So we made chicken wraps out of the fridge and felt great after.   I love working out because it reflects my eating habits.  I watch a lot closer what i put in my mouth, because if I were to chow a bag of chips...that workout earlier would be for nothing!  I wish i could see what I would actually look like at 140lbs heck even 200lbs!  Its been A LONG time since ive even weighed 200lbs.  I hope others arent offended that i am gleaming, but this is the first time that I have ever stayed committed this long to a weight loss program.  Everything else i have tried has been crash diets that yeah I would lose a lot, but really quickly and always gained that and more back.  So thank you for listening.  I look forward to hearing the rest of your stories, and to listen be it a good day or a bad day.

Love hearing everyone's positive comments, etc.!

I am so glad I found this site.

Was very proud of myself yesterday at work -- I was in the kitchen heating my Lean Cuisine chicken pizza when several Pizza Hut pizzas were delivered for the folks who work in our office - for free.  As I am standing there, people came out of the woodwork to deviour these great-looking cheesy pizzas.  But I stuck to my plan and enjoyed my lunch (though I did leave the room to eat it, I confess!)  Still, no fatty for Patty yesterday! :-D

Oh, and I am down 12# as of today!  4 weeks, 2 days of better health so far, many to go! That's way better than a cheesy slice!

wow our little thread has been veeerrryyyy quiet of late.

I'm supposed to be writing an essay, but im procrastinating reading the forums.. oooops.

HI to pattikins, lbaxleyl and amk (and any other new people i missed)! I hope you enjoy getting to know the CC community, and hope you find this site to be a great resource!

alldolledup: sounds like you have been ridiculously busy :(  it's so annoying when *stuff* gets in the way of relaxation and having fun! (not that i've been having much of that lately either!)

Tomorrow i am hoping for my lowest weight yet!  I weighed in today at 240lbs exactly (109kg).  I have yo-yo'd for the last week because i got a bit off track with my eating and gained 2lbs so had to lose that before i could get on with the real business of getting to my lowest weight since starting CC!  I am trying to stick to around 1400 cals at the moment because i am really really motivated to get down to 231 by the 23rd Nov which is my bday.  I'm not *quite* sure if i will get there in time, but i am definitely going to try.  When i DO hit that 231 that will be my first mini goal achieved AND i will have lost exactly ONE THIRD (52lbs) of all the weight i want to lose. I am desperately thinking about how great that is going to feel.

When i DO get to 231 its only a hop, skip and a jump to 218 and then, to quote rena, i will be SO excited i will practically pee myself (hehe i LOVED it when you said that about your halloween costume rena!).  The reason 218 will be so exciting is because i will be UNDER 100kg for the first time in about TEN YEARS.  (I work in kgs but convert things to lbs so you pesky americans understand what im talking about heehee).

Sooo yus, i am SO focussing on those 2 goals at the moment.  Can't wait to see the 231, and then am going to be SO excited about 218.  Hopefully ill achieve 218 by early January (fingers crossed, as long as christmas doesnt derail me!).

I'm also horribly lazy when it comes to exercise, but my bf and i have started going for evening walks.  We just wander around, at a slow pace, not actually with the intent of puffing or sweating, but i figure even 30-60min of slow wandering a day is better than me just sitting on my big fat ass all day.

:D:D:D

I'm SO reinvigorated about counting cals and CC at the moment.

*bounce*

oooh that was long!

i forgot to say that if anyone HASNT tried snack a jacks salt and vinegar rice and corn snacks then omg.. so tasty.  like potato chips but fewer cals. YUM and *drool*

OOooOOooooooooo .... salt n' vinegar -- one of my favorite flavor combinations.  I found some salt/vinegar flavored soy rice cake thingies at Whole Foods ... they are very tart ... but a bit too fake vinegary for me.  What I miss are Salt n Vinegar flavored Kettle Chips but, alas, my potato chip days are behind me ... to much fat. I will be heart-healthy if it kills me!

I spent some time tonight looking up the calories in KFC (fried chicken) after seeing a commercial on TV tonight. (sigh). There's more grams of fat in one original recipe thigh than I am now eating for the entire day, somedays. Even their biscuits are full of fat! AAAAAuuuugggghhhh. Why can't someone invent fried chicken that's GOOD for us, pretty please!

It's nearly midnight here, Monday night, and I am proscrastinating going to bed because I don't want tomorrow to get here .... that's the day I have to go to the dentist ... EEEK! EEEK! EEEK! (Did I mention I have a HUGE fear of dentists!?!?) I need to get three cavities filled. EEEK! EEK! EEEK!

(sigh)

=^..^= MOLLY

ok yeah baby! lowest weight today by half a pound. may not seem like much, but i'm excited!

Molly: i know its not quite the same as fried chicken but have you thought about chicken breast, or thigh fillets, rolled in egg white, then coated in a low cal crumb alternative then baked, grilled or pan fried in a non stick pan with a little spray?  I'm mostly too lazy to actually do this, but it might go somewhat toward fixing those kfc cravings. i'm lucky i never liked kfc chicken in the first place! (their burgers on the other hand...). Best of luck wtih the dentist as well! I'm currently trying to convince my bf that he needs to go the dentist.  he's being stubborn at the moment lol.

:)

Molly- In follow up to Singing Girl's suggestion, use panko crumbs on your chicken - it stays lighter & crunchier than other crumbs.  Oh, and when you've figured it all out, how about posting the recipe?   ;)  Your recipes always sounds so good!

I know you like to have lots of veggies, and I am making my version of a Moroccan chicken stew for my family tomorrow.  If you want, I will post or send you the recipe.  Has lots of veg, and is served over couscous.  My favorite thing ever  !!!!  Just glad my family has learned to like it too!

Hi, I'm new!

Well, let's see.

I joined this site around October 23, 2007. Though, I've been counting calories for about a week before I joined.

Current height/weight = 6'1" and 289 (my weight started at around 292 pounds and I only got a scale 13 days ago. So, I never knew how much my weight was when I first started counting)

Small goal = 200!

Long term goal = 160 to 180 (I'm keeping my eyes on 180 and will see how I feel when I get there before I decide on if I want to lower it or not.)

Age/sex = 32/female

Weaknesses = chocolate, milk, and cheese. I've had a very hard time cutting most of my cheese out of my daily meals. I never knew cheese had so many calories until I started counting. That's probably where most of my calorie overage came from before I started all this.

I've been trying to use the Benedict Formula more than the one here in this site because it seems to be a bit more accurate. This site says I should be eating 2150 calories per day in order to reach my goal by December of 2009. The Benedict Formula says I should be eating around 1894. So, I'm going to try my best to go with the 1894 per day. That's with a 1000 calorie deficit plus 50 minutes of TaeBo 6 days a week. I'll start walking again when I get my new treadmill.

What worries me more than anything is, I've seen so many ladies in this site who eat 1200 calories per day. I know that as my weight lowers, so will my needed calorie intake. Even now, I find that before meal time I feel half starved. How will I feel if I ever have to start eating only 1200 per day?!

By the way, this looks like a very helpful thread and I'm glad it was started. I need all the motivation I can get! :)

Welcome, Momof2!

With your current height & weight I bet you will lose plenty on 1800-1900 calories, and probably will need to reduce as your weight goes down.

I was just at the doctor's office, having lost 11+ lbs in the last month on 1500-1600 calories/day.  He thought that was plenty low for me - 5'6". 244#.

Good news for me - my EKG came out great, and the doctor is thrilled with my progress!

hi Momof2.

I agree with pattikins that 1800 will definitely see you losing weight.  Just make sure you do not go too much over a deficit of 1000 calories per day.  You must factor your exercise into your calorie expenditure for the day and THEN take the deficit off what you burn.  So with 50 min of Tae bo and walking on a treadmill you could even up your calories to 2000 (you will have to do the exact math) but yeah, just make sure your deficit isnt TOO high.

The good news is though with stats like yours i would expect you to see quite a decent weight loss per week of 4 or more lbs to begin with if you are really accurate with your calorie counting. I think Molly was averaging around 4lbs/week at the start, but has now levelled off a bit.  The rapid loss at the start is always inspiring though!

Anywho, good luck and welcome!

and BY THE WAY GUYs... WHERE IS EVERYONE AT THE MOMENT?!?!

Thanks everyone.

This is how I figured my calories:

BMR - 655 + (4.35 X 289) + (4.7 X 73) - (4.7 X 32) = 2104.85

Including Activity - 2104.85 X 1.375 (This was the number for light physical activity) = 2894.2 (rounded)

Deficit of -1000 = 1894.2

Right now, I only do 50 minutes of TaeBo 6 days a week. I won't be getting my treadmill until Christmas. The only time we can walk is in the early morning hours (5:30 AM) and it's still dark then. Not to mention cold. So, I'm holding off on the walking until I get my treadmill.

Also, has anyone been having issues with eating breakfast? I've found that if I eat breakfast, I'm hungry all day long and it's a lot harder to stick to my calorie deficit. If I skip breakfast, eat lunch, a snack, supper, then another snack, I'm nowhere near as hungry and can stick to the calorie deficit much easier. I've tried eating a very filling breakfast with oatmeal and 1% milk, but it doesn't help.

I too am starving in a couple hours after i eat breakfast.  I try to eat oatmeal for breakfast, that holds me over MUCH longer.  But I also think that because im so hungry, my metabolism is just working more because it has something to work with!  I also am now a snacker!  I eat 4-6 times a day but little meals.  maybe a can of soup and then ill have a snack bag of grapes, and then a granola bar, and so on.  I only lost two pounds last week which was REALLY discouraging for me!  And i know two pounds is what i should be losing and im happy for that, but the way my clothes fit now I thought it would have be a little more.  And then I had my fiance remeasure me.  I measured myself the first time...and when he did it, he got larger measurements then i did 3 weeks ago, again frustrating!!  But i also think we each were measuring a little different.  But my clothes fit great, and cant wait to lose about another 5-10lbs so i can finally be a size smaller!!  which is very exciting!  Like my fiance said, two pounds a week...104lbs a year, 104lbs lost vs 104lbs gained.  cant really complain!  Kudos to everyone else who lost this week too.  it is HARD but the support from everyone helps SOOO much!

I know how you feel lbaxley!!  I never used to get hungry before like 1 pm, and i didnt eat breakfast.  Now that i do eat breakfast, i fing myself getting hungry a few hours after.  I keep a lot of fruit on hand now, as wll as edemame and low fat cheese and i have become a snacker :)  I have hypothyroidism and see my doctor ofter, she says that the hunger is a good thing.  its a sign of your metabolism speeding up, and that you should be eating several times a day, just make healthy choices :)

singing_girl I am at 283 :) I would have lost more, but I had quite a bit of candy this week.  I admit it..  Halloween is my favorite holiday:)  plus,..there are still a little less than 3 days till my official weigh in :)

I just wanted to jump in on the breakfast conversation. I used to skip breakfast too and it just lead to overeating at lunch and dinner so I make it a point to start my day with something to get my metabolism going. Then a snack mid morning and mid afternoon. If you plan for them and have low cal snacks handy I find they make sticking to smaller portions at lunch and dinner easier. It only takes 100 cals or less to make the hunger go away so an apple with some laughing cow cheese, a bunch of raw veggies or 100 cal pack of popcorn usually does the trick for me.

I also read in one of the forums about cinnamon being used to help control blood sugar in diabetics and curb hunger and cravings. I don't know if this is a load of hooey or not, but I've started drinking cinnamon tea in the morning and sometimes I don't even remember to have my mid-morning snack because I'm not hungry. It might be all in my head, but it seems to work. So lbaxley & momof2kt
try sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal and see if that helps. I would love to hear if anyone else has found that the cinnamon thing works or if it's just all in my head.

Rena, I agree...Halloween is the best! When are we going to get to see the pics of you rocking that sailor outfit? If anyone wants to check out my shining moment as Tracy Turnblad I have a couple pics in my profile. I'm very proud of how big I got my hair!

moogiesue, you're the perfect Tracy Turnblad, just seeing how much fun you're having in that pic makes me want to do the dress up thing aswell next year. I kinda skipped halloween this year along with the candy. :)

I'll give the cinnamon thing a try, keep meaning to do it but then forget when it comes down to it. I've got a big box of ground cinnamon at home, so it's not even an effort to I can just take it and use it.

I love the food I'm eating today. Had my 2 boiled eggs (4min) with half a cup of skim milk, slice of toast with ICBINB margarine, 2 slices of turkey bacon. For a snack I had reese peanut butter cup and 50g of broccoli/cauliflour. For lunch it's yummy bruchetta with goats cheese, cherry tomatoes and basil. Afternoon snack apple with another 50g of broccoli/cauliflour and for din din it's sushi at Bay Sushi on my way to school.

Ok, gotta give the cinnamon a try. I love cinnamon flavored things anyway, and I am getting hungry within about 3 hours of breakfast on a regular basis.  At least I am planning snacks and making good choices.

I will be interested in whether the cinnamon makes a difference. Hope so! It can't hurt, and breakfast will be delicious--

This is just slainna checking in. :) down to 257! i think my first goal was 241. 16 pounds to go
