Hello all!

Dont know whether I am too late to join this group, but I'm really pleased to see a group that isnt a bunch of skinny women moaning about putting on 1 pound! I started in january 2007 at 329lb at 6'1" and am currently 260lb. Its been really tough, many plateaus- being on the depo provera and having PCOS all working against me. I'm glad to have found a site that is so supportive- its miles better than paying £6 a week for weight watchers!

Thanks : )

Welcome Laura !!

I can hear ya on the Depo Provera .. I gained 60lbs in less than 2 years on that crap.

Yep the fact that this site is free is awsome ... Im sure there will be no problem with you joining the group =)

I too started out at 329 in the begining of March and im around 303ish now .. almost down past the 300 mark !

Keep it up !! Slow and steady wins this race !!

K

Got your updates Laura and your onboard!  There are certain things I suspect we can all relate to that you dont experience if youve not been as above goal weight as we have.  Time and patience are so important on the longer weightlosses and you really have lost steadily.  Stay aboard - Jan 1 will be a great weigh in for us all :D!

I wasnt aware of the Depo Provera thing but I do have PCOS.  Carb control has worked for my appetite.  You joined just in time - we are a week away from monthly update.  Yesterdays weekly weighin was so-so but already seeing a better day today and giving it my all til June 1!  Already back incorporating more activity.
Here's hoping this holiday weekend doesnt interfere with monthly weigh-in a week away!!  This is the final lap and youll enjoy progress from last months weigh in.
I had a lot of fun over the weekend. I started each day with a long walk (4-6 mi) with Spikey (my Great Dane mix), then in the afternoon on Sat and Sun took some long bike rides in the Iowan countryside. Saturday's ride was 23 miles and Sunday's was 15.5 miles. And these were continuous rides, no resting other than walking the bike in a few tough spots.

With that kind of exercise, the food didn't really matter all that much. We went to a buffet on Sunday and I went for protein! Steak, ham, turkey, skinless baked chicken, lima beans, corn, green beans, carrots, then I had a small piece (1/12 of a pie) of pumpkin pie for dessert and a spoon of peach cobbler. Since that was the only meal of the day, even though 1800 calories in one sitting seems beyond excessive, it was fine. Later I had popcorn at the movies and an ice cream cone. Even with the junk added in, my calorie deficit at the end of the day was still greater than 1000.

One thing I'm loving about getting a little smaller is that the clearance racks just seem to have more of my size clothing than they have of larger sizes. I can wear a 18/20 now and seems like half the stuff on the clearance rack is right there. Which is nice, because my entire wardrobe, other than jeans and my swimsuit, is made up of clearance clothing. It doesn't make sense to pay a lot for clothing that I will, hopefully, not wear for that long of a time.
So close to monthly weigh in and with my home scale, I will be checking Sunday after Thursday weigh in at the clinic.

I usually hit Walmart graveyard shift to avoid the crowds.  Last night, I was the only one at the register when the cashier asked me, "How much weight have you lost?"  I was shocked since I didnt recognize her  and zillions of folks go through there.  Granted Ive done all my groceries since yr 2000 and I probably stood out when I was at 465 but still surprised.

Thats amazing activity aovermy and I am all about the protein!  Good for you to get some treats in there that were allowed into your day and those would two options wouldve been high on my list.  Plus size clothing availability can be so limited, especially when at the top of the plus sizes.  Since I only wear dresses, Catherines is the only store I can get them at.

Wow, awesome exercise aovermy.  I'm still trying to work up to being able to do more (I max out at about 18 minutes on the elliptical).  And that is sooo exciting to be in the 18/20 size!  You must feel amazing!  I always see all these cheap clothes in those sizes at Lane Bryant, so congrats on being able to fit into them.  I still have clothes from when I was smaller and I think to myself that I'll fit into them again.

And sun, that must have been great to have somebody else that you wouldn't expect recognize that you've lost so much.  That must have made you feel so good!  I figure I'll only notice the difference in clothing and not how I see myself.  But I'm hoping for one of those moments.  I haven't actually told my family (they live up in NJ) that I'm doing this lifestyle change, although I know they'd be ecstatic about it.  I can't imagine what they'll say when they see me, especially if I do in fact hit the 299 mark.  It's such an inspiration to see people who are around my weight like you sun that have lost so much.  Makes me think I can do it.  Thanks for the inspiration.

You know, because I've been doing this lifestyle change for so long, I tend to get focused on the next goal, like right now I'm heading toward 230 so that's where my attention is. I forget that I've lost as much as I have. So we were at our vac home (no, we're not rich, it's my husband's boyhood home in rural Iowa where the property prices are amazingly cheap) over the weekend and our neighbor there hadn't seen me in a while. She came over and was looking at me, so I said hi, and she was like, Oh my gosh, is that really you? And I was like yeah (not realizing she was freaking over the weight loss), then she was like, but you've lost all that weight! I simply forget that it's a big change for someone who has not seen me in over 100 lb of loss.

Sun, yep, I used to shop Catherine's all the time. I mainly went in for stretch pants and then would go else where to buy men's plain solid color T shirts for the top part. My main shopping places now are ShopKo (clearance rack!), Walmart (for athletic wear, mainly and the clearance racks), and Target. I just don't want to pay a lot for quality clothing that I won't get (hopefully) all that much wear out of.

I was shocked at how long I could go on the bike. I mean, I've worked my way up walking to where I walk for 2-2.5 hours with no problem, but I haven't done that much with the bike! I can remember when I thought a 9 mile ride was gonna kill me. Right now, more than a minute straight of running feels like it's gonna kill me! So I guess each activity requires a certain amount of working up to.

The great thing about the weekend is that while I did exercise a lot, it was in the context of having fun, rather than as a chore that needed to be done. I think that's the greatest thing I've discovered during this journey is just how much fun there is in being active.

Molly, good job on the riding. It's so much fun it's amazing how many calories are burned doing it! I am dreading those dog days of summer, though the knowledge that I walked every day last summer (until I broke my foot in Aug) despite the temps (and I weighed close to 100 lb more) gives me confidence that I can do it again.

Absolutely slow and steady wins the race. Remember, we're not like those folks on the "Biggest Loser" whose sole focus is on weight loss (and even there, they're probably dealing with folks and issues back at home). We're trying to lose weight and get healthy within the context of living our daily lives and dealing with the concomitant disappointments, sadnesses, joyfulnesses, etc.

I think it would be unhealthy were our weight loss effort to become the sole center of our person and the thing we most worry about in exclusion to our families, homes, careers, and personal well-being.
It used to strike me funny - driving to a gym to walk on a treadmill and I realize theres more offered but summer sure puts outdoor activity into perspective.  More power to you guys who can endure it!  Until I discovered Walmart as my cart supported walking, I never got the mall walkers but pretty ingenious who ever started that.

Molly, youve had obstacles in your path this month so salute you if you come in close to where you started but good luck with that possible loss!  I agree aovermy about the many other aspects of focus but honestly, thanks to CC Ive not bored those I know to tears with weightloss discussion :D.

Good scale day (and Ive hit it a few times) so trying to rein in my optimism for tomorrow clinic weigh-in.

Great Job everyone !!!

Wow Sun you must have been taken by surprise by the cashier ... did you tell her how much you have lost? Thats awsome that a complete stranger noticed tho =) grats to you.

I am hoping that this month ill have a good weightloss ... Ive been fluctuating like crazy all month .. As this is the first month with me back on the pill in like 6 years.

So lets everyone keep our fingers crossed that we will all have excellent weigh ins at the end of the month =)

Molly .. Ive been reading your journals ... your doing so great .. everyone is .. im so proud of us all =)

~K

I didnt know what to expect today - like Korali lots of flucuations at home but weighed in at 312.6 which is fine.  At home, stripped down I was 310.5 yesterday and 311.2 today so think Ive got the math down between the two scales.

Been slow last 2 weeks but started month strong so still happy.  Wishing everyone progress this month that is coming to a close - good weekend to all for our final numbers!! :D

What a great discussion! I am so glad to see a forum that involves people of a higher weight. I hope its not to late to join, I'd love to participate. You all are such an inspiration. I started at 315lbs. and last summer killed myself in an unhealthy way to lose weight. I was able to lose 60lbs., but as I said not in a very healthy way, and allot of it came back. Now I sit at 272lbs. at 5'4. I just started CC this week and am already feeling like I have more energy this really is a great site to get serious about your healthy weight loss.

Good luck to everyone, especially on your June 1, weigh in.

Well, I officially weigh in on Saturdays, so here it is:

236 lb for June 1.

That gives me 170lb loss total (!) and 11 lb for the month of May. Hopefully, June will be as kind.

Wow aovermy, thats incredible. Whats your cal. intake? I can't believe you're bringing up big numbers like that still, after losing so much. Any secrets you can pass along? I ussually lose 20-30 lbs and just stop for awhile. Than its like my engine recharges and I start again.

I weigh in on Saturdays, so I figured I'd post it today.  345.2.  I'm kind of frustrated because that's only a 0.8 lb weight loss from last week, and I'm not sure why.  My calories average in the range I planned for.  Only thing I can think of is that I worked out 3 times this week, but only one time before that.  Although, I also had ice cream last night later than I had planned to, but still about 3 hours before I went to bed.  I know I've also been pretty thristy lately (hitting the 90s lately) and maybe I don't get enough water.  This is all going through my head trying to figure out why it doesn't show more of a loss.  Maybe I'll reweigh tomorrow to see, even though today is a cheat day.  On the other side of things, though, I feel better than I did.  I'm not sure exactly how or why, but my body feels better.

Wow, awesome job aovermy.  Numbers like that are such an inspiration!

And welcome renaer14.  Glad to have you =)

Well, I eat at least my BMR every day (1713), and exercise every day for a good 1000 calories or more (according to my Polar Heart Rate Monitor), about double that on weekends these days, as I'm riding my bike a lot more, in addition to the 5-7 mile walk with my dog I start weekend mornings with.  I try to get in 70 minutes of interval running a day, wherein I try to keep my heart rate from dropping below 140 by running, then walking when I can go no further, then running ... The weekend walks take between 2-2.5 hours. I also try to climb 5 flights of stairs 4 times a day during the week. And I try to get to resistance training 3 times a week (I don't like this as much as the outdoor exercises, so this is a struggle for me).

I also had an intestinal flu, followed by a cold earlier in the month, but surprisingly, I lost only 2 lb that week, despite eating a diet of just soup and fruit! Probably because I wasn't moving at all. My first exercise after that week was just a walk, and I felt faint doing it. Luckily I recovered quickly after that and was able to have a marvelous second half of the month!
Hi Renaer!  Please check your mailbox - got info so I can put you on the list with us!

Thanks for starting us off aovermy and good going!  Ive decided to stick with my Thursday weigh in, even though it felt high.  Still a good month and you know how it is - added to each previous month - woohoo!

Liza, bummer week and I know Im zigzagging with losses and wondering if your loss may be reflected next week.

************ NOTE TO ALL ************

TOMORROW I WILL BE OUT.
POSSIBLY ALL ALL DAY
I'LL CATCH UP WHEN I RETURN.
DONT WANT ANYONE TO POST FOR JUNE 1 THINKING IM IGNORING THEM.

************ NOTE TO ALL ************

My body, brain, and/or heart (can't tell which) are dictating maintenance mode or something, because I am wanting more food. (or maybe it's the exercise)  It took me two full weeks of May to get motivated to get back on track with my exercise, but I'm doing okay with that now - walking some days, elliptical other days and I can now do 30 continuous minutes on the elliptical, which is no small feat for me.  Weighing less than I have in 20 years (at least) sure does make movement easier...

What's your start weight?   305
Whats your current weight?  227
Whats your final goal weight?  185

This morning's weight was 227 and I have been fluttering around this weight for two weeks - up a couple, down a couple, but 227 is my lowest weight yet, so I was glad to see that number on the scale even if I only registered a 5-lb loss for May.  78 lbs is almost a small adult, so I am very proud to be moving downward SLOWLY and healthily and with balance.   I have 2 lbs to go by June 16th (for my 80-lb loss goal by my 36th b-day) and I know I can do it - we all will get to our goals.  Go, CC buddies!  Yell
