| Welcome to the new over 100 to lose club! | ||

Howdy guys and gals! I'm taking over this club, not because i think i have all the answers (i so know i don't) but because i'm super pumped up right now and motivated to help those people out there who have a lot of weight to lose. we need a place that's more than a "can i join" place.. we need a place to talk about issues related to being this overweight..
Who here needs to lose over 100 pounds? Who needs to lose over 150 pounds? Or more? I did! I did! And yes.. i did! A small amount of background on me for those of you who don't know: i am a binge eater. I have had a problem with emotional eating, hidden eating, over eating, eating with a hang nail, eating because i have split ends.. you name it i stuffed my emotions down with the greasiest, nastiest food i could find! Why did i do that (you might ask)? Because of many many different reasons.. frankly i think it was because this is how i was taught from a young age, this is how we handle stress and emotions. I learned that it's not proper to talk about your feelings.. or god forbid, express your emotions! You have to shove them down with a piece of cake and a smile! Anyway.. onto the reason for this post. If you are out there and need to lose a lot of weight.. just like i've got to.. i think we need to have a place where we can discuss these issues with each other and try and work through them together. Because, let's face it, people who are morbidly obese (yes.. i hate that word too) have uniquely different issues to work through and deal with than the average person. Losing weight, for people who have this much to lose, have to deal with so much more than the formulas to figure out how much to eat.. and exercising. It's more complex than that. We have to deal with years and years of poor eating habits that have to be unlearned, we have to deal with the emotional torment of just being this size, we have to deal with the harsh looks and comments from strangers or from loved ones, we have to deal with our emotions for the first time in our life because we aren't shoving them down our throats anymore.. this is the hardest thing ANYONE has to deal with.. but, from my experience, things are different for us bigguns. :) also, for those of you who don't know me very well.. (because i've kinda been in hiding and not posting much and there are so many new people out there) i started out in january weighing 324 pounds. I now weigh 232.5.. i have lost 91.5 pounds so far. I am not telling you guys this to get kudos.. i got those yesterday. I'm telling you guys this because i want anyone out there who is struggling with knowing they have, what seems to be, an insurmountable amount of weight to lose, that there is hope.. it IS possible.. you CAN do it.. but it's hard.. and you will hurt.. i know this because i've been there.. i've done it.. and i'm still dealing with it. so.. come on in and share your stories.. i want to hear them and i want us to support each other until we are all at our goal weight! |

| me too! I'm starting tomorrow. See the doctor. Have to get weighed and I know the news is already bad... so i'm covering my eyes now! Fasting for a blood test (just in case) but I know he'll weigh me for sure, so after the bad news... I should be all ready to start! Right? Right. ;) Guess it's time to get serious. | ||

| I also would like to join the group. My ultimate goal is a 124 pound weight loss. Therefore, I definitely fit in with the group :-) I have read the past support presented from the group in the past, and I know I will definitely need it on the long road ahead. Hopefully, I can also provide support for everyone else also. | ||

Hi Everyone,
In response to Jenski6039's question regarding recipes, my favorite place to look (it may sound strange) is the AICS website. They have simple, yummy recipes and the best part is it gives you the nutritional information at the bottom. My favorite recipe so far is the Turkey Joes, it's YUMMY. It's 290 cal a serving but if you use lettuce instead of the bun you can cut out a lot of calories. This is the recipe. I have a different food related question that you guys may be able to help with. Cooking and buying fresh food is new to me and I was wondering what fruits and veggies stay fresh the longest? I don't have time to shop very often and I'd like to be able to have fruit and veggies throughout the week instead of just the 2 days after I get back from the store. Thanks! P.S. Vrykolia, I agree with you on the string cheese thing. It is my new favorite snack food, it's so fun to eat! |

Shardyvh- What does AICS stand for? Sorry I can't help with the fruit/veggie question. I end up going to the store every 2-3 days. I have no life so I have the time to run by. Clairelaine could probably help you. Why don't you post the question under the Food Forum? She would definately see it there and answer for you.
Welcome Kay63! We all have a long road ahead but try not to think of it that way. Try to set little goals. Mine right now is to loose 6 lbs that would put me at exactly 100 lbs to loose. Sometimes I just set goals like going to the gym 2 times a week. I have gone gung-ho and tried to change everything at once and workout everyday but just failed. Now I'm incorporating things in slowly since it will be a long time commitment. A totally new lifestyle. I may not be loosing as fast as some people but I know I will stick to it over the long haul. But the most important this is to not give up. I've had some set backs and gained back a few lbs since being here but I haven't given up and that is the big difference this time than all the other times I tried. Hang in there. Kim |

Well, today is the first day that I am discouraged, although I am still going to get my butt to the gym. My leg was really messed up yesterday so I couldn't do my normal treadmil excercise so I went for some tennis. I weighed 264 pounds in probably november...and by January I had gotten down to 255. Since January 29th I have lost 14 pounds...but I have a LONG way to go as my goal is about 150-160. I would definitely like some support. I want to lose the weight so bad, it's just not healthy. |

Don't be discouraged!
Your desire to lose the weight is healthy and admirable. How long have you walked around with that extra weight on? How long has it bothered you deep inside? How long have you felt better than that? Answer those questions. Then realize that this journey is so wonderful. Reaching your goal weight is awesome. But once you do that its just maintaining it. You won't get the awesome feeling of doing something good for yourself as much as you do now. You won't get the joy of dropping another 10 lbs. again! Instead of trying to reach the end without the trip, enjoy the trip. Sure it won't be easy. But think of all the wonderful milestones. Keep at it. I'm trying to hit 160 from 294. If your leg hurts, take it easy. Go swimming, or something else that isn't going to hurt you more. And if you need to talk, let me know. I'm glad to listen. |

| Congratulations on your accomplishment! I, too, had 100 pounds to lose (EXACTLY 100), and because of very simple diet modifications (eliminating sugar) and food choices (lean meat vs. fried chicken), I have lost 50 pounds. Also, I exercise regularly, and that isn't maniacal jumping up and down but walking daily, weather permitting, and gently marching in place. | ||

Welcome new folks (like amethyst, shardyvh, and kay63)! You're always welcome to post any sort of question in this thread or make a new one with a large weight-loss question, and put in the title "100 lb to lose club..." somewhere in it so we know to look! :)
We're a friendly bunch so you can friend us and we'll friend you back! :) Shardyvh: I've found that apples and oranges keep pretty well as far as fruits go. Bananas are right out! In their season, strawberries do, but right now they won't keep for a while. As far as veggies go, I get romaine hearts and they stay fresh and good for a while. Carrots keep in the frigde for a long time too. As do green beans. Most of my other veggies I get frozen (where it's just the veggie and not in any sauce). |

Shardyvh~
Jewel offers precut bags of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and snow peas, which hold up about a week and are really convienent. I know for me I have to take the time to make food easy to snack on (already cut up), or it doesn't get eaten. For our house it ends up cheaper for me to buy the precut veggies (which seem to hold up longer), then to buy them whole, since the whole stuff usually gets tossed. Mushrooms also do better if you transfer them to a plastic container then in their own container from the store. This seems to hold true for a lot of veggies. Also we don't use the veggies drawer, we keep them right in the fridge. Things tend to get forgotten in the veggies drawer. Hope that helps. |
