angeline:  welcome.  Hope you enjoy this site.  I couldn't have lost my 28# without CC.

sun:  when I had my yummy grilled cheese, there was melted cheddar in the skillet.  I'd forgotten a low carb treat of frying cheese.  have you ever done that?  Melt a thin layer till its brown on the outside and crispy.  I usually have to blot it then, and its a crispy cheese treat.  I don't have much cheddar left, so can't decide to fry it or save it for another sandwich.  My Italian bread from the bakery was hot out of the oven and I actually hit an old man with my cart, hurrying to get out of there while it was warm.  He probably wondered about the lunatic lady clutching a loaf of bread, racing thru the store.

You're right, Feb. is almost over.  I know muscles deteriorate if you don't use them and wonder if I'm losing stamina, by being cooped up this winter.  Hope not.

Hi Angeline - hope your first day went well.  If theres any tough part on SB, I think its the first days adjusting.  Good luck and hope to hear from you.  Starting on Friday, your just in time for Thursday weigh-ins, if your interested.

Your spirits sound up, Bee.  We'll get you on the weighin list if you'd like - just lets us know how you do.  Glad to hear you on your way to recovery :D

Rachael, Ive never done that but am familiar with the browned cheese that escapes a grilled sandwich.  We were given one of the sandwish plug in grillers.  My daughter pointed out how we could use it to grill cheese without the grease mess.  Course none of the buttered taste but it still was good of course because of the cheese.

Had beef barley veg soup for dinner, really scanning the kitchen for meals.

Good morning  well I'm glad weigh in was yesterday that gives me a week to burn off the candy that I overate yesterday.  Ive been so stressed out and on my worst days I tend to overeat.

Good going Jayne  WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!  Wish I had read the posts before the chocolate attacked me.

Welcome Angie.  You sound like my twin when I first started on here.  Hope you have great losses like I have in the past 6 or 7 months

Whoa has it really been that long guys  WOW!!!

Bee hope you feel better soon.

Wings your doing great!!!  Ive missed my goals a lot.  I do think I tend to set them to high though especially at this weight.  I miss the first two or three months when I was having 2 and 3 lb losses

Rachel  you are doing awesome.  Yummy bread  I'm not going to touch the stuff though Ive been known to munch on the whole thing through out the day and pretty soon its gone.

Hi Gina try to get my resolve in order today  this weekend is going to be a temptation  as much as i want to see my family  the food part of it is terrifying
#526 ohio45 Feb 15 2008 12:52
Sarah:  its been 9 months for me so I know how you feel.  Never would have thought i could stick with this this long :)  Never expected it to be so much fun, getting to know ppl here made it all a good experience.  And the rah rahs have helped me.

Happy Friday everyone.  Well, I ate all day, but was VERY surprised that my stomach shrunk, (not really, I know it just gets used to 'not' stretching) and I couldn't eat as much as I expected.  Also, then thru out the day, was so full, that things didn't really taste as good as I dreamed they would.  But, the day off helped me mentally, to feel more like a normal person and not a prisoner of diet, even tho I consider this a lifestyle and never use the word diet.

while at the store I took my blood pressure as my Dr requested.  Was surprised that it was so low, 118/75, since it runs high even with my pills, so maybe the loss has helped also, not eating canned foods & keeping sodium to a minimum.  Keeping fingers crossed it reads the same over the next few weeks, till my appt with Dr in March.  It would be a miracle if I was able to go off the pills.

HA.  he told me its impossible to eliminate sodium.  Well, I showed him, it IS possible.  (I do eat the minimum) Eating plain meat and plain fruit and vegs and avoiding canned and processed foods.  But he is one that does not give compliments.

I got a $5 gift cert from one of my kids for valentines day, so will have a latte.

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome.  I am just finding this all a little difficult to grasp.  I am not sure if ANYONE is in the same boat as I am but I lived and breathed sugar.  I grew up my whole life on junk food and never forced to eat vegetables.  I just over the last year or so started eating salads.  Being that most of this diet consist of eating vegetables, I am having a hard time.  My Dr said I needed to pretty much grow up and start eating them.  I am just having a hard time finding out what I should try first that won't completely gross me out.  Any suggestions?
#529 sun123 Feb 15 2008 14:47
Angeline, it wasnt sugar for me but starches.  Sure, I had my desserts but it was the absence of meat and vegetables with a diet of rice, pasta, bread and pastry that I lived on.  Vegs are a really personal preference.  Im in the same boat with you on vegs and have really stuck with a few staple ones I enjoy.  If you do TV dinners, particularly where the foods arent separated but mixed, you can keep cooked (I use frozen) cauliflower and brocolli to stir in and increase the meal plus your veg intake.  If you like to cook, you can click LINK 56 in the 1st post for sites with SB recipes.

Thanks for the update bee - youve been coming along so well.  Bet that relaxing weekend will get your resistance up with this bug.

Thats great on your blood pressure, Rachael.  My friend Alice, previously a nurse, was so suprised even at 400+ I had low boood pressure since weight can be an issue.  She is also very cautious about the sodium.  Me not so much but I do try to stay aware somewhat.  My offender is the TV dinners.  Funny how a day off can help you 'get back to business' eating wise.

Sarah, I was lucky not to have valentines candy - chocolate is a weakness, particularly if its good quality.  The timing was great, with a whole week til next weigh in.

Gina, thinking about you and hoping things are going okay.

Intense teen issues at home and funny how the diet does help with some feelings of control.  Not looking forward to a weekend with Kiki here grounded, due to the extremity of her attitudes but avoidance will be key.  Otherwise though, things are well and really appreciating her being at school rather then home today.

See ya all on tuesday morning.  Have a Great weekend.  wish me no weight gain LOL!!!!
#531 sun123 Feb 15 2008 22:57
::directs wishes to Sarah::

Well Rachael, finally looks like tonights the night with list in hand and walmart bound LOL!  Got a few new items and dropping off some Im burned out on.  Ive been low on activity with my friend Alice sick and shes just getting over it since Sunday. Got to make this the week to break 350.

Wondering how Angie and Kathryn are faring with the steriods.

Looking at doing defensive driving either tomorrow allday (ugh) or online.  Ive not had a ticket in years but younger, I got them frequently and new that test so well.  It got harder near the end because of the memorization, even minimal, and my memory.
#532 wings2fly Feb 16 2008 10:52

Hello ladies, it's early Saturday morning and I was so excited when I stepped on the scale and weighed 130.2 (I'm ignoring the .2 Wink).  I actually did it and made it to 130.  Now I have a new dilemma and need some advice.

When I started SBD I exercised a little but found myself too tired during phase 1 plus when I exercise, I always tend to gain weight on the scale and I didn't want the discouragement.  Then life got so hectic, death of a friend, daughter sick, work being crazy etc.  Now I really want to get back into an exercise routine so I can start toning up for summer.  I use an elliptical machine, core secrets ball routines and I have a Firm routine with the Fanny Lifter but it takes so much energy, I have to work my way up to it.

Anyhow, any advice on the scale going up during exercise?  It's too discouraging to work so hard and then watch the numbers increase.  Even though I know people say it's how you feel and you are building muscle, I still see the numbers and want to throw in the towel.  Am I crazy????

Have a good day everyone. I am going shopping to beat off the Winter Blahs. Its going to be fun but cold. I am ready for spring and at least 60 degree weather.

Those who are sick just tuck in and watch a good movie and say a prayer for Sarah.  Those outings can be the worst.

#533 ohio45 Feb 16 2008 12:16
building muscle doesn't happen overnight.  It will be awhile before weight is from muscle.  But, then, go by measurement.  Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat.  A pound is a pound.  But, muscle is leaner, therefore your measurements will be smaller.

I have faith in Sarah.

sun:  how was Walmart?  I'm thinking of walking today, if it warms up.  Made some headway yesterday sorting boxes and quite proud of myself.  Told my dau she could have g'mas table ONLY IF she took it next time I see her.  Working on getting rid of excess stuff.  All this sorting has occupied me and lifting the boxes has given my arms a workout, so what better time of yr to do it.

Have a good weekend everyone!

EDIT:  OH NO.  Just learned my dr appt is Mar 3, so thats only 2 weeks away.  No time to relax the rest of the month like I wanted to.  Darn.  I need to be at 171 by then, so with clothes, he will see a 6# loss or 1.5# a month since last visit.  Decided to wear my shorts again, only under sweats and just take the sweats off before getting on his stupid scale.
#534 sun123 Feb 16 2008 13:57
Way to go Wings!!  I can imagining the feeling of seeing the scale increase, despite what you know about muscle and weight gain.  Such emphasis on weight loss during our lives can really skew things even when knowing its muscle.  Had a similar issue with upping calories and still dealing with it. I think its a matter of getting adjusted to the concept.

Rachael - there goes your break!  From Valentines Day to Dr Visit goal day.  Youve been so successful at burning off weight, hoping you think of ways to continue with your activity because just two weeks but you can make progress like you've proven before.

Walmart at 3am after early bedtime, as I planned - love it empty.  Really stepped outside my food comfort zone with new items.  First cereal - Kashi GoLean after its popularity at CC, plan to eat it as a snack straight.  Hit the cans - tuna, chicken and salmon.  Tried some new SF pudding flavors and added oranges too.  Both whole grain bread and La Tortilla.  Without my SB wraps discontinued, carbs have been almost non existant.

1-1/2 hours of walking.  Got home and a bag was missing.  Went back and 30 minutes more (Walmart has that effect on me).  Hit gold at a missed clearance cart. Got on-the-go walmart SF powdered drinks 5packs, 1cent each!  Got all 25 5packs and that was a quarter well spent!  Also passed on nuts earlier but found these 2oz bags of cashews for a 25cents and got all 6bags.  Picked up a foil patch of precooked marinated salmon for a buck, knowing I could go back for more and UGH, wont be going back.  Restaurant quality chicken of the sea - yeah, maybe for cats.  No, our cats wont touch it.  Wasnt grumbling any longer about having to return for my missing cereal after the clearance cart though.

hello everyone,

I am going to start SBD tomorrow. Laughing Have been on CC+ for 1 month and have lost about 7 lbs.  I know SBD works, I just have to get used to missing apples and other high sugar fruits!

my name is Jeanie and here are my stats

weight 208

exercise - 2 mi/day on treadmill

goal weight 130

look forward to all of your support and low carb ideas

#536 sun123 Feb 16 2008 20:00
Hey Jeannie!  Good going with your weightloss so far!  The high sugar ones (canned, mango, pineapple, etc) are "eat rarely" in phase 2 but after otherwise, you'll get to start introducing other fruits after your first 2weeks.  I was never a fan of fruit (without the canned syrup) - it was diet food so I really put off the introduction but when I finally did, have come to appreciate them.

Some of the more extreme weight losses of phase 1 are usually experienced coming from non dieters but you can expect to see results still, particularly how phase1 is set up.  Glad you are joining us.

Pouring like crazy - another irk of having to return to walmart this morning but its not as if I were going anywhere.  Yet managed to get in 2hours grocery shopping.  I know that sounds crazy long but as you know, its slow still getting around.  My daughter usually does the work, loading bags, putting them away, even just carrying in the bag so it was great to see I was able to do it all.  Ironically, Ive behind on exercise and Ive noticed just a day off makes walking better - sounds weird, but its got to be from lack of stress on my knee.
#537 wings2fly Feb 17 2008 10:49

Wow Sun what deals!  I would've bought all the drink mixes too.  I have been trying the green teas since they are supposed to be so good for you and found two lipton ones that aren't bad but they can be pricey.  Also, our walmart has some low carb wraps in the refrigerator section by the cheeses that are really good.  They are Buena Vida and there is a whole wheat one that has 7 carbs/3 fiber.  I think the white is the same but I'm not sure because I love the wheat.  You might want to check it out.

Hi Jeannie and good luck with phase 1.  I started SDB in January but actually didn't know much about it which is how I ended up here and the ladies here have been great with the advice.  Good luck on the 1st two weeks, the first few days were the hardest for me because I gave up all the coffee with my favorite creamer.

Hope all is well with everyone else and you guys have a good day.

#538 sun123 Feb 17 2008 19:55
Im thinking Rachael and Sarah have had luck with green tea (memory issues).  Funny to have new foods - not knowing which I want to pick from first.  I cant believe its already going on 3pm in TX.  Ive been clearing out the bedroom and it just sucked up the day but it is nice to have something to show for it.

Specifically, not the easy stuff but the junk that I never know what to do with.  Im a NON food purger, love to get rid of odd & ends that just hang around.  If it doesnt make my home look better or I cant use it shortly, off with you!  On the other hand Im a hoarder of things I DO use (the crystal lights I bought for example).  If its used frequently, I probably have a ton of it or it hasnt been on sale recently.

Didnt do driver school so checking tonight online.  Even though its simple, my memory makes the short term memorization challenging so probably eaisest online with notes.  Tonight?  So boring ...
#539 sun123 Feb 18 2008 00:31
Eating Kashi GoLean, thats right cereal :D.  Finally took the plunge because figured it wasnt sweet enough to stir cereal addiction.  Eating it straight, and nibbling on each little piece has taken a while.  Just glad there is a high protein cereal.
Crunching, seems like so long since Ive crunched :D.
