Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club toniahayes
  May 30 2007 23:53
I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". .  I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years.  Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).

I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons.  I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably.  I may want to go on to a size 6 next.

I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated.  Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.

Let me know if you are out there and interested.

Hi all!

I like the idea about trying to get rid of these 10 by Nov. 15th. I've been scaring myself into thinking it's impossible because I'm hypothyroid, but I know I should still try.

My number one excuse is that my thyroid means I can't lose weight and my husband loves me the way I am, so why bother?

My thinking replacement: Others have beaten the thyroid -- so can I; it might take a little longer, that's all. And I don't love me the way I am, so there.

Today: Walked dog for 4 miles. Did a 40 minute strength workout.

Plan for Thursday: Walk dog for 1 hr in the a.m.; spinning class  or 3 mile run at lunchtime.

Prospect- Are you being treated with a sythetic replacement like Synthroid or Levothyroxine? I have hypothyroidism. Yes, I have struggled with my weight, but I can lose it when really determined. I have been taking the medication for a few years now and it seems to keep it within normal limits.

Hello everyone!

Just a quick line to stay in touch and keep me on track.  I love reading everyone's posts.  I am doing great.  I walked 30 minutes and took a BodyPump class.  I also did 20 minutes of stretching.  My eating was off today, but it is TOTM  :(  I guess you just have to roll with it.  I just want a peanut butter cup; anyone know what I mean?  Well, gotta go!  Tests to correct.

Must be contagious, my TTOM is almost upon me. Any minute now. This is a really hard time of the month for me as far as my eating goes. I crave salty alternated with sweet things (esp. chocolate) all day, mostly at night.

I have stayed under 1500 the last couple days. Yea! I have been fitting exercise in most days. Today I woke up late and hope to at least get a walk in later.

The weekend is here. Good luck everyone! Stay strong! Easier said than done for me...

hey all,

excellent attitudes, everyone!
i did my spinning class yesterday... wore my hrm and burned 465 cals in 45 mins. after wednesday's strength workout, and then that, i'm now s.o.r.e.

walked dog for an hour this morning. will probably spin again today (this teacher only does class thurs-fri-sat at the Y where i am a member) as am taking a friend out for dinner (wine! cheese! aaaargh!) and then do a strength workout tomorrow when my husband's away (and can't laugh at me swearing at denise austin for being so bloody annoying).

Hello everyone,

I just got back from a 20 minute walk and I am on my way to a Bodystep class.

Ohio: Spinning is an indoor cycling class. Sounds fun, huh? It can be done right brutal! I usually come out of the cycling studio soaking wet. If you have a motivating ( read 'tough as nails') instructor, you really push yourself.

Well, I need to grab water and get to class.

I post more later.

Thanks Tonia-

My previous weight loss was a combination of being busy with my wedding and eating better.  Somehow..my anxiety lessened and the weight just flew off!  It was probably 25 lbs of waiting to go away pounds that I never really focused on.

Thanks for the calorie tips.  What do you do about strength training.  I amped it up again and I'm already feeling bigger (mostly on top). I do full-body strength workouts that are like 20 minutes long. What do you think of this: every other day during the week and skip completely on the weeken, focusing on cardio combinations.

For fresh veggies, if anyone of you have an Acme store, Hanover has pre-washed bags of green beans or sugar snap peas.  Best snack with no prep!

Today is my day to get ready for the busy week ahead.  I ran 4 miles, did 20 min of strenth training and 20 minutes of stretching.  I feel pretty good, but where is that fall weather! I have been trying to keep my calories around 1400, but end up around 1600 because of snacking. :(

Prospectpark, I totally hear what you are saying.  I have rhumatoid arthritis and I give myself injections of Humira to keep it under control.  One of the biggest symptoms of this disease besides all of the pain, swelling, and more pain, is fatigue.  Sometimes I want to just plop on the couch and say, you know what, I'm sick.  I have to replace that thinking on a daily basis with: 'I know exercise is great for my body and my mind and I want to look and feel better.'  My husband is also a great supporter and thinks I look great at a size 10.  I think I look great too, but I want to look better for me.  I think it will always be a struggle. Congratulations on working out and sticking to a plan. Some days are just easier than others.  We are here for you!

Tandosnip, hope you had a good weekend.  I wonder if just communicating with each other we sort of all got on the same schedule? :)  Gotta love chocolate and chips. Sometimes I even think about chocolate covered chips

Ohio, You are almost there.  I hope you see 179 very soon!  I know how great it feels to reach a goal.  When I saw your post about green beans, I had to laugh.  Our Vet advised us to mix green beans with our dog's regular food to help her lose weight.  She hardly even noticed she was eating green beans and dog food because it was the same 'amount' she had always been eating.  My dog has lost 6 pounds in 2 months.  I think I will try to eat more green beans as well.  Good luck!

Well, I hope to read from all of you soon.

di- I had to laugh at the choc covered chips comment! It is crazy isn't the craving we get? I got to eat more green beans! My father just gave me a whole bunch from his garden. Good thing!

Well I am back up to 133.6! UGH! My calorie limits have been well over. I am just trying to get myself back on track. I didn't really fall off, I eat the same foods, just more of them.

I am exercising. Went for long walk this morning. I have class in about 1hr 20min. So I need to get showered.

Have a great day ladies.

Ohio-You'll get there! I know you can!

Hey all,

It's TTOM so I'm staying far away from any scales, but I thought I'd check in and see how you all are doing. Tando-- it's raining here, too. Cut short my walk with the dog this morning (he's decidedly anti-rain)!

Does the slow pace of this process ever get to you guys? I'm only trying to lose a lb a week, because I don't think I have the willpower to create a 1000 calorie deficit every day and keep it off, but sometimes it seems so s l o w.

I've only been at it just over a fortnight, though! Ah well.

I went to university in Glasgow, where they have deep-fried Mars bars, and deep-fried pizza. Never tried it myself, but I could see how the chocolate-covered crisps thing could catch on there!

#539 cc1170 Sep 11 2007 23:58
Ohio-Don't give up! I am impressed at your determination and willpower. Good Job! Keep it up and you will see 179 in no time. Just don't quit.

Deep fried Pizza and Mars bars?! Yuk!!!!

A chocolate covered pretzel will do. Sweet and salty at the same time.

Well, I have been doing alright. Not great just alright! My calorie count is more than it should be but enough that it should create a small deficit. I am at about 1500.

I did not get to exercise today. I hate that! I will definately do it tomorrow. I hurt my shoulder over the weekend. I slept funny and it must have jammed it or something. I have been taking it easy on that arm as it hurt to move my neck or shoulder. I am holding off on strength training til it feels better. I use it a lot anyway just doing laundry or getting groceries, you know? So it was feeling better but started bugging me again today.

Well that's it for now. Hope that everyone is feeling good!

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone got off to a good start this week.  I had a good workout today walking and doing an hour class of BodyPump.  I will weigh in tomorrow.  We will see.  I do so well staying around 1400 calories in the beginning of the week and then wham! I fall to the temptation.

cc1170, Take it easy on the neck and shoulder.  I agree with holding off on any vigorous exercise.  If it continues, you can always try Advil, heat or ice, and massage.  Hang in there.  I also hate days I don't get to work out.

Tonia, hope all is going well.  Sometimes staying busy is a blessing in the eating department, but I always seem to have time to grab a cookie!

Tandosnip,  I am with you on exercising for life thing.  I would be way overweight if I didn't.  For me, swimming makes me the hungriest.  I try to eat things high in fiber that are filling. No way I am going to eat like a bird. Not at this stage in the game anyway.  I have never tried chocolate covered chips, but when I get the craving, I would probably take chocolate any way I can get it.

Ohio45, plateaus stink!  It is so unfair, but I do think maintaining is still very hard work and you need to celebrate.  Congrats on the fitting into 'new' clothes.  Don't just love to stand in front of your closet and everything fits?  Hang in there.  You can do it.  You may need to switch some things up.  Maybe the exercise, maybe you need a little more calories.  I know there were some hints in previous posts.  Good luck girl!

Prospectpark, I guess slow and steady wins the race? I think it will be something I will have to be aware of my whole life.  My weight is not my whole life; just something I have to work on to live my life to the fullest.

Have fun everyone!
