Great job on the walking momo...and from a size 20 to 12?  I'm impressed, and inspired!!

A cosmo is vodka based, with cointreau (triple sec orange liquer), a splash of cranberry juice and some lime juice.  It makes a pretty pink drink!!

Never been to Germany, (must add it to my list) although have travelled some of Europe (I'm from Northern Ireland originally for those who don't already know).  I am sure it would be wonderful for you to take your daughter back  to her birthplace.... some day!!  Have to say Greece is probably my favourite from that part of the world...with France running a VERY close second!!!

Bye for now,

Suz

Wow talk about a ghost town.....spooky.....where is everyone? I mean some of you have explained yourselves but my gosh where are the rest of you? Ummmm hey you guys didn't all get together and go to the cabin without me did you? lol or should I sayCry? Hope all is well and everybody's out having fun.  Connie

Ditto!!!

Just an update on me...having a day at home today...staying close to the bathroom...not sure if it was something I ate last night (was my birthday dinner, lol) ...or a bug...but my system is getting a good clean out (if you know what I mean Embarassed)

Oh well..........

Hope you are all ok!

Suz

Hey! I'm here! I'm always here! lol

Went to karaoke last night! We had a blast! I left calories for 3 drinks and that's all I had. Then we went to Denny's afterwards and I only ate 1/2 sandwich (brought the other half home for my son) and some hashbrowns. Still lost weight!

175.6 this morning! SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!! :)  5 more pounds and I'll be where I was when I started gaining weight from being in a wheelchair for 2 yrs.

Been walking 4 -5 miles a day and eating good things. Now these walks aren't like power walks! They are nice slow, leisurely walks. I take 3 breaks too! But I figure 500 calories burned because they are tough miles for me to walk.

Now I have a question....I keep a deficit of 1000/day and I'm losing a pound a day. I eat anywhere from 1350-1400 cals a day. Why am I losing a pound a day when people say 1000 deficit/day should give me a 2 pound loss/week? hmmmm

Good news now... I think I'm gonna have to go down a size in my jeans!!! A size 12!!!! :)  I also had to put another hole in my belt! lol

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUZ!!!!!!!!Um well I guess you can look at the "clean out" as will be lbs lost!!!!Wink I am down this a.m to 129. I have been staggering the calories from 1200-1500 then some days when i have been feeling not so well a day or so at 1000 then up to almost 1800 and apparently THAT works for me! I say that now and tomorrow i'll go back to 135 or whatever. (which is still not bad i know) It just seems odd to gain or lose 3-6 lbs in a day or so when I am basically sticking to the same food schedule. It was a little cooler here for a couple of days and now its going to go back up to 90's ugh I can't breathe when it gets so hot anymore. Using that inhaler has also seemed to make my moods go down hill toward the real crabby stage with everybody. I can't even stand to hear the phone ring lately.....oh well at least there are no $%#^&'s when I am writing to you guys! LOLUndecidedInnocent ! Hope everyone else gets back to us soon. I'm feeling like they have left us for good.....Hope not!  Good Sunday to all!    Connie

Feeling much better this morning!  But I don't have any scales here in NY so I have no idea what my weight is doing this past week - up a bit would imagine!!  Well done momo and connie - sounds like you are both doing very well with your healthy lifestyles Smile

Husband would like to go out for brunch today - hope my stomach is strong enough, ha ha.

Talk to you soon,

Suz

Hello all!

Sorry I was gone so long...not sure how to explain it...it was just a "perfect storm" of being back and forth to our cabin and two teenagers giving me fits.Yell Frankly you all ought to be glad I didn't post, I am sure I would have been a downer.

But dust is settling Smileand I am alone for a couple of days at the cabin so, here I am!

Let's see...welcome Lucy! so sorry about your's and Momo's back issues, wow thats a lot to deal with!

Connie-girl you are amazing! Bless you for keeping the thread alive, I hope the lungs and inhaler stop hassling you pronto! maybe a PC will cure it? Cool129 is fantastic! I agree with your response to Suz question about clothes shopping, It is much more fun now!

Suz, I hope your day with, um, "NYC revenge", has passed and you're all better. I can't help but think, when I am in that situation, is that the bright side of it is the calories are moving too fast to adhere to my hips!Wink Macy's is fun, so many floors with soooo much stuff! and I enjoy a cosmo from time to time...in spite of Sarah Jessica Parker!

Sue/skn, CONGRATS on hitting goal! maintenance takes a little getting used to but isn't hard, just take the time to work with it a bit and you will find your groove. (and it helps if you don' try out your neighbors cookie recipe...retired firemen don't know what size a normal batch of cookies is!! anybody want some cookies?? Surprised) Your dad sounds like an amazingly interesting guy! I would have liked to hang out with him and heard his stories. ( I caught a HUGE bug today to add to my classroom collection...not sure what he is...but the fattest beetle I have ever seen!)

Momo, to address your question, I think one of two things are happening: one is you are loosing water weight. Water is subject to fluctuations in everyone, and can be as much as 3-5 lbs a day. You can usually tell if it is water if there are also times when you inexplicably gain (or just don't loose)weight. The other possibility is that you are underestimating your caloric burn. for example, you walked 4.4 miles and credit yourself with 500 calories burned, but there are several variables: hills, speed, and your weight all could make that number too much or too little. Other than a heart rate monitor which give you your exact calorie burn, I don't know a clear way to know what you have burned. I do know that you must have a deficit of 3500 calories to loose one lb of body, not water, weight.

Lucy's question about travel (I think it was Lucy...!) I have been to every state but Jenny's (Maine!) and although I love Italy and plan to go back as soon as I can drag hubby there, Switzerland holds my heart. I am a mountain girl, and am never happier than when I am hiking around in those gorgeous peaks. London would earn my favorite city prize, so much there, so compact to get around. We also spent a summer in Republic of China and Japan....many years ago...very interesting and challenging (then) but not on the favorites list. Now I ask everyone: If Oprah were to give you a 14 day dream vacation, where would you go???

Ok, this is getting so long our little hamster powered internet connection will take an hour for it to upload!

G'nite and I promise not to be such a stranger!

Alylou

PS: Connie, just looked at your picts...I like the one of the little owls, but I think it is YOU wondering where we all have gone!

When I weighed this morning, I'm down 2 pounds from last sunday. So I'm good! :)  No walk today and only had a 400 deficit for the day. Oh well....after last week, I can't complain!

alylou - nice to hear from you! I wish we had a cabin to retreat to. When I was  younger and lived at home, we use to go to the mountains here in Pa. Up close to the New York state line. Loved seeing elk and all the deer and bear!  We use to go to the garbage dump to see the bear. Then they closed it so cars couldn't get in because people were getting out of their cars to take pics. Crazy! lol  I do miss those vacations. Hubby isn't big on wilderness trips, he's a city boy! :(

Connie - I know exactly how you feel! My weight goes up and down all the time. As long as the ranges are in lower numbers every week! :)

Hope everyone has had a nice, safe weekend! Take care!  Tammy

I spent Saturday night dancing.  Then I went out today and bought another knee brace.  I need one on each leg, it seems, or else I strain the "good" leg - that's no fun!

Weekly weigh-in:  down another 1.5 pounds!  Next week if I continue to lose at the rate I've been going (slow but steady) I'll have gotten to 25% of my ultimate goal.

HELLO!! HELLO!!
We're back from vacation and I really missed all of you. We had a wonderful trip (despite a few frustrations - more on that later). I am NOT happy to be back home. We stayed right in downtown Chicago, and I miss my city lights and walking everywhere and the busy-ness of it all.

Anyway, I did a quick, quick read-through of all the posts I missed. Glad to hear everyone seems to be well - despite some aches, pains, hot flashes (me, too on that one), weight fluctuations, kids needing us, etc. Not too minimize any of that - just glad that everyone is still hanging in there.

On the weight-loss front, despite my worries over all the foods I so love in Chicago, I didn't gain anything!! YEAH ME! I didn't lose either, but I am totally okay with that. I worked out twice while gone, and we walked and walked and walked, so that helped. I ate some fabulous meals - but watched my calories on some days when we weren't having "favorites". Now, I'm having a bit of trouble this weekend readjusting to my diet plan but in some ways it taught me a little about what I'll be able to eat if I ever get to my maintenance weight.

I thought of you all often and really missed checking in each day. I'll write some more tomorrow and maybe post a vacation photo or two in the days to come. Take Care everyone!  Justamom/Sue/Chuck (PS. Welcome to our new friend, too)

Hi there :)

I'm new here, almost 45 with 2 kids, girls of 16 and 9. I'm Danish living in the Netherlands, 162cm and about 87kgs (how much is that in inches and lbs?) My goal is to lose somewhere between 15 and 22 kgs AND then being able to control my weight from there.

My family on mother's side are all overweight, but my sis and I actually did quite well untill after the first pregnancies. She got anorexic and I "just" got reallllly big. Backproblems didn't help much, 3 months of very little moving plus a baby.

But: I got back into shape, back's ok now. I've returned to my old sport, badminton, and was back on the level I was on when I was 19 :D

Then two years ago I discovered what I'll be doing on the work-side for the rest of my life (mental coaching of teeanagers), and it's greast! It's so great, that I forget myself and what I eat and don't take time to do any kind of sports anymore :(

Strange how old habits hang on - I'm happier than I've ever been, but of course there are all the little worries (about the kids f.i.), the excitements (when one of "my" sportsmen or -women is having an important game f.i.). And in those cases: I eat.

I'm long through the fases of hating myself for it, knowing that that only makes it worse - I forgive myself, because I understand how it works in my mind and body. That probably is one reason why it hasn't gone a lot more out of hand...

But now is the time to do something, because I just hate it when it gets dificult to get up from sitting on the floor or when I get out of breath from walking the stairs in my house. 2 weeks of camping in the UK did help a lot, lots of walking. So at least I'm feeling a little less not-fit ;)  Coming across this site by accident made me decide: now is the time! Even better when I discovered this group, yeah, I'm getting my hopes up here :D

Besides - starting out yesterday with a food log, I realised how I've been fooling myself for years about how much I eat. Tough, but also illuminating - so that's why... Motivation ok all in all, now moving on to action (which will no doubt prove a tad tougher...)

That turned into a long story - rounding up by wishing you all good luck: my deepest respect for what you've all accomplished so far, incredible! :)

Hi Tru and WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!! We always say the more the merrier and you will grow to love this group and MISS them when they disappear for a bit!!!! I have alot to do today so can't post all my responses till later today but did want to tell you we are glad to have you join us! ALY and Sue/Chuck I will respond this afternoon but SOOOO glad you are back! Now where is Jen???? Have a good day.  Connie .... Oh and Hi Tammy/momo! Axe you better slow down on all that dancing( braces on both legs ) that sounds uncomfortable girl!  Later ladies

Hi all,

I had a good weekend except for being in the Gulf in a small boat and having to outrun a thunderstorm.  I hit my knee during the jarring ride but after icing it yesterday it seems to be ok today so I don't have to miss my walk.  Today was my second weigh in.  I didn't lose but after losing 7.5 lbs the first week I pretty much expected that.  If I don't lose this week I'll have to tweak something a little more.  I hope everyone has a great week.  Laughing

My weight is down a lb today, with no exercise yesterday and only a 400 deficit. Hmmmm

axe - take care of those knees, you need 'em! :)  Congrats on the 1.5 lbs! :)

justamom - Chicago is always one of those cities I would love to visit. I was raised in the "country", but once I saw the city (New York) I knew that I'm a city girl at heart! lol Hope to see some pics. :)

truus - Welcome to our group! The food log can be your bestfriend. You can plan your day using that thing. Hope to hear alot from you. :)

lucy - That boat ride sounded scarey! Trying to outrun a storm! OMGosh! Glad to hear your knee is feeling better!

Well friends another day of falling apart piece by piece....a crown came lose and had to spend 3 hours being fitted in at the dentist today. I have alot of bone loss apparently but 600 dollars later he seems to think it MAY last a bit longer! Now I bet I can really lose the lbs without teeth. I need to shut-up before some sort of Karma gets me! Oh and when I got back from the dentist my neighbor took a couple of pictures of me NUMB mouth and "cement" make-up so I will be sure to put those in my gallery when i get it.......Lucy talk about "rockin' the boat" LOL Glad you are ok! Sue how about that chicago style pizza I hear so much about???? Axe how's the knees this afternoon? Momo you're gonna be skinny Momo in no time! Skinny mo instead of minny me...That sounds like a future nic name to me!!! Tru I think you'll have to wait and get one of our teachers to tell you how much that is in inches. I don't know! Hey Lucy what about you? Boy I am really rambling today so I will go for now. Where is JEN?????   Later ladies       Connie

Hello all!

Hello and WELCOME truus! It is indeed illuminating to see what you actually eat when you haven't been been keeping track. I think we all fooled ourselves until we started CC, it is a great system! You may have a few foods that are available there in the Netherlands that are not listed on CC, but usually you will be able to figure out the calories. Your job sounds interesting...I have three teens , I should take the training for your work...just so I can mother them!Undecided

oh, here is the "translation": 162cm=5'3" and 87kg= 191.4lb and no I did not do that from memory, I used the web!

Lucy, glad your boat was faster than the storm! Maybe next week you will even out your  losses.

Sue, Welcome back...I thought about you from time to time..you were so close! GOOD 4 YOU for not gaining anything! that is quite a feat considering the foods C town  is known for!

Connie, I thought you deserved a crown...but I wasn't thinking dental work! we are looking forward to your numbed picture! Wink by the way, is your arm/pinched nerve all cleared up?

Tammy, glad those pounds keep falling! I guess the way to look at it is: It's is better to be loosing FASTER than you think you ought!Smile

Axe, I tore my ACL when I was 14, believe me when I say: take care of those knees! My Dr says I have his permission to run only if someone is chasing me with a knife or gun!

Today is beautiful and breezy, a lovely day to take my dogs blueberry picking (10 cups) and then for a romp on a Lake Superior beach. *sigh* now my only issue is I worked so hard picking and romping I'M STARVED! Boy am I glad I gave away the rest of those cookies, I would be stuffing my face with them if they were here. But I will be a good girl...Innocent mostly...

Wish you all could join me tonight for a cocktail sitting on my bench at the end of our dock!

G'nite, Alylou

Went dancing again - with 2 braces; that worked out fine.  No knee pain, only vaguely stiff - much better than Saturday!  Plus, adding the iron-rich food has helped my energy level; I may be back to my old self soon.Laughing

I know to be careful; my mom had arthritis in all her joints, and that really slowed her down.  Besides, moving keeps everything lubricated and in working order.  Sometimes I just have trouble remembering that my body can't do things the same way it could a few years ago, not just from when I was in my 20s but from just a few years ago.Cry

Welcome truus!  It can be very enlightening to see how well (or not) you're eating.  When I realized that my problem was less about what I ate and more about what I wasn't doing, it was a big motivator to get my off my duff!

Connie - I've never broken a crown (unfortunately, I do have several), but I once had one get sucked off my tooth by a caramel.  Oddly enough, after I cleaned it off and stuck it back on, when I hurried to the dentist for re-gluing it didn't want to come off again!Surprised

This propably sounds like a stupid question: do I just reply to the last lady-speaker, or do I keep replying to the first of this amazing string of comment-pearls???

Thank you all for the welcomes, makes me feel - well, welcome :D

Cantlose: I know the feeling, when your teeth start falling apart, you realllly feel that "age" is setting in. No fair, in my mind I'm still 35 :P  I'll be 45 in september, and you know, in Danish (my mothertongue) 45 is "halfway to 90" - uplifting ey...

Axejudge: yeah the activity-log was quite interesting too, but for me the activity tends to find it's own way into my ife when I'm less heavy. Step by step, literally...

Alylou: teens are great, it's a period in life where so much is happening and basic social skills and understandings are to be developed. But as parents, we're often too close - think back: loads of things you didn't talk to your parents about, well I know I didn't ;) Thanks for the messures, I tried on the web but my calculator wouldn,t work with me (t.i. I did something wrong and couldn't work out what). All rigth then, so I'm 5'3 and 191,4lb, sounds even heavier this way :(

But: I feel good today, weather's been a pain here, way too hot for humans, but today it's grey and rain will finally come and clear our air and minds. And I'm doing fine with the number of cals that I'm allowed and feel good about myself :) Now I'll try to bring up the courage to clean the house. Anybody know a way to make that fun?????

One last question to all of you ladies: how do you incorporate this in your lives? I have this wonderful and very strange feeling about this forum and the cal/act-logs - because: this I do for me (and for no-one else). Cosidering what that tells me about my life, I might need to find some rythm on a regular basis or something to be able to stick to it. Advice/ideas welcome! Thank you all :)

Axe just had to tell you I was reading all the posts and am still half asleep (I guess)

but was reading your comment about the crowns and had to re-read I saw CAMEL instead of caramel! Imagine my thoughts! It definitely woke me up. LOL

Tru you just answer anyway you want. You can be a "rambler' like me that answers at random and leaves it lots of days for you poor girls to try and figure out who or what i am responding to or take it a name at a time and comment IN ANY WAY (we seem to enjoy the wit) that comes to mind!

Aly yes I have often thought I deserved a crown but according to ex's that is just not the case. My arm and neck are doing so much better. The chiropractor cut me loose yesterday as a matter of fact(right before the dentist) and I am feeling worlds of difference all over! Thank you my friend for asking! Oh how much I wish we lived closer I would be right there on your dock! You know I bought the stuff to make my USUAL PC and just didn't want it!! I must find a new drink to indulge in from time to time....any ideas girls? Something tastey but maybe not quite as sweet as a Pina Colada. I did have a premixed mudslide that was yummy but had 475 calories 11g of fat for such a small drink so NO NO NO to that. I just did my impersonation of Amy Whinehouse I think. LOL Must go have my Jimmy Dean Delight breakfast and get ready. Will check back in this afternoon!  Connie

Hello!

An unusual morning post from me as we are having a storm and my dock doesn't look so inviting!

Tru, you can reply either way, I usually reply to the last post, just because that is easiest. Incorporating CC into your life can be as little as entering every night what you ate that day, (I would keep a post it note with a running list when I know I would not be able to get to CC during the day.) or many plan out a day's eating in advance, and enter it all in on CC, using the site as a planner for the day or even week. I know that the weight loss graph was a great motivator for me-I loved to see that line head DOWN! It can be difficult at times to get on and post your information or come to forums, more than one of us has to share computers with our computer age children! As for fun cleaning, take a hint from those teens:crank up the music! I used to use my stereo, but now I find my MP3 to work better at drowning out the vacuum etc.

Hmmm I can just picture Axe's dancing with a vacuum!Laughing and Axe do be careful biting those CAMELs! LOL Connie!

Sue, Getting settled back in? What were those frustrations you teased us with? Have I quoted my philosophy of travel? Good travel=nice pictures, bad travel=great stories!

I looked back to see if Jenny gave any clue she would be gone and she had a short college visit trip last week but then her inlaws were coming for a visit...oh dear. Inlaws, so tricky, some of us probably LOVE them-even feel more comfortable with them than our own family (my hubby adores my Mum), then there are the inlaws from Hades...the "Everyone Loves Raymond" types.*shudder* (We call my hubby's mom 'the black hole' 'cause she sucks in all the light around her and gives none back..).Surprised So I hope Jenny can return and recuperate with us soon!

Connie, Drinks! my usuals...Rum and diet coke or 7up...gin and diet tonic(big slice of lime)...vodka or rum and diet cranberry juice...these are from another forum:

Diet A&W Root Beer with Vanilla Vodka (I'm going to try that tonight!!Smile)

Diet Pepsi Jazz Black Cherry/French Vanilla with Vanilla Vodka

Diet Sunkist with Bacardi O

Diet Sprite with Bacardi Razz

An "adult" Cherry Coke: 1 oz. cherry vodka, Diet Coke, and 1 tsp. grenadine (84 calories)

"Adult" Shirley Temple: see above, sub Diet Sprite for Diet Coke

mojitos: 3 fresh mint sprigs
    2 tsp sugar or splenda
3 tbsp fresh lime juice 16 cal
1 oz light rum 67 cal
    club soda

In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add     the sugar and lime juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix.     Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lime slice and the                 remaining mint, and serve.

Umm so many options, so little time...Wink

Looks like the sun is peeking through! TTYL, Alylou
