Greetings!
I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.
Reason: Moved to Weight Loss Forum, no longer appropriate for New Member Forum
Everyone is kind of quiet since Friday, I know I have been a little busy but how are the rest of you? I think the rest of my summer will be a blur now, I am feeling heavy with some fluid gain again so I am not stepping on a scale till Friday (I am sure that it would only depress me). Eating lots of fruits & veggies I love the fresh garden produce this time of year. We have a lovely new little girl (that is two girls in a row), her big brother hasn't been thrilled with her arrival yet.
Jen - the challenge sounds like a great idea, I have a friend here who is involved in something like that and she is really doing great with her weight loss.
Tammy - I cannot eat at night either, my weight goes up whenever I do.
Kristine - I like the slow crawl analogy, that really feels like a good description.
Have a good day everyone and keep on posting.
Omagraf - Congratulations on your new grandaughter! How exciting! I laughed when I read that her big brother is not thrilled, my daughter was the same way when my son was born. She was 2 1/2 at the time and would not even look at him for a few days. They eventually come around - especially when they realize the baby is not going away! They are best of friends now.
All is good here. I had a girls day out on Saturday which started with a little pampering at a spa then dinner and drinks. I definitely ate and drank too much but seem to be evening out now. I went swimming on Sunday and worked out yesterday so my weight is back to normal. We are leaving on Tuesday for our trip so I'm running around trying to get things together. I will be happy when we finally get on the plane - I could use the break!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Hey guys!
How are things going? Got back this past weekend from Florida. Super hot, but still very nice. Had a great time. Didn't shoot as much as normal, but spent a lot of time with the family.
First off, welcome to all the new people!!
From a weight standpoint, I did okay I suppose. I am sure I put on a few over the past couple of weeks, but I am not going to get uptight over it. I am lucky that I have a few trip opportunities this summer, but it makes it difficult to stick with the plan and lose weight.
My friend Tony and I went for a walk last night and we are both in the same situation. I lost 40 earlier in the year and he lost right at 50. We are both doing great in maintaining, but we have pretty much lost the motivation to get back at it. My feeling is that when you start feeling pretty good about yourself, it provides less motivation to keep going...so you think it isn't a big deal if you take a day off. The problem is that a few days off can ruin a week. We are going to walk again today at lunch and try to figure out a way to push each other. Maybe we'll make a bet on who can lose the most in a month!
So I wanted to bounce an idea off you guys. Right or wrong, when I was losing, I was eating around 1500cals a day. I was trying to eat about 500cals three times a day. The "problem" is that it really limited what I could eat. I mean I pretty much stuck to chicken, turkey, etc. I have heard that it is better to eat multiple times a day rather than to "save" cals and eat once or twice a day. Still I think it would work better if I snacked at lunch and had more dinner options.
7:00a breakfast - 300-400 cals
10:00 snack (sugar free pudding, jello etc) - 50 cals
12:00 snack (fruit, veggies, etc) - 100 calls
2:00 snack (sugar free pudding, jello etc) - 50 cals
5:30p dinner 700-800 cals
My thinking is that my day is so busy, that I wouldn't really miss a normal lunch, but the snacks would at least curb the hunger. Then I can have a more "normal" dinner with my family.
Any thoughts??
ok...so I tried posting a reply and it wouldn't work so if my first post miraculously turns up don't think I'm crazy!
Welcome back Terry! Glad to hear you had a great time. You are lucky that you have been able to get away so much this summer.
I can see how trying to eat 500 calories 3x a day can be hard to stick with and also limit what you can eat. I tend to spread my meals out similar to your new plan however, I would eat more at lunch time or I would be STARVING by dinner and start to over eat. I also try to stick to about 1500 cal a day. I tend to eat about 200-300 calories for breakfast and 400 for lunch. That leaves me with about roughly 800 calories for dinner and a snack during the day. I will up my intake on days that I get a good workout at the gym.
Keep in mind that I am the .5 loss per week queen, so this may not work for some people because it is slower. I just find that I don't feel like I'm starving myself at anytime. I do cheat here and there but on those days I try to at least jump on the treadmill at night for even a 1/2 hr or go for a walk to "even things out"
I know the last time I lost weight, I got to about where I am now and then lost focus and put 70% of the weight back on before I caught myself. I'm really hoping not to make that mistake again.
Hope this helps!
Congrats again to Sandy for your new granddaughter!
Terry, it's great that you could take that time and enjoy yourself! I had a look at your numbers and they only add up to 1400 if you take the bigger value where you have a range, so you're selling yourself short. I need to eat at least a sandwich at lunch or I'm too hungry to function, so I'd put the additional calories that you're missing there, but that's just me.
Thanks Cynthia/Kristine.... So far after two days it is not too bad. Usually cereal/skim for breakfast with a glass of diet cranberry juice, then a pudding cup for a snack, a banana/apple for lunch, then jello for an afternoon snack. I just need to be careful to not overeat for dinner. Last night I had a lean burger on the grill and a baked potato. I found some "lite" buns that are only 80 cals ea.
Kristine, I know what you mean about losing focus. I am doing an okay job mantaining, but it is just tougher to stay motivated when you have had success and are feeling better.
Strange thing is that I am REALLY struggling with my hiking this week. We went three miles on Monday evening and I thought I was going to die on the hills...Maybe it is just the heat.
I find that I have some weeks where I really struggle to get through activities that I normally wouldn't. For you, maybe it just has to do with the fact that you have been away more then home over the last few months. Your body still may be tired (or very relaxed!). I bet you snap out of it in a few days. The heat can definitely play a part in it too - just makes me want to curl up with a book in the AC.
However, (watch out - here comes the mom in me), if you still feel like you are struggling, a quick trip to the drs office is never a bad idea to make sure all is ok :-)
Good to hear it's going well!
I've been feeling the heat too on my weekend runs, so don't feel bad. If it persists get it checked out, but it's probably the heat.
For my morning / afternoon snacks I like yoghurt (90 cals and some protein) or an apple (50-80 cals depending on size). The apple really picks me up mid afternoon when I start to get the snoozies at work.
I know it's hard to maintain focus. I'm halfway to my goal and I just can't seem to get motivated to exercise after work when I'm mentally worn out.
Glad to hear everyone mention the heat. It has really taken a toll on me this week, but we get a lot of humidity here with heat. It is hard for me to get outside and exercise, I had to go to the mall to walk the other day.
Terry - you might be a little too tight on calories, when you get really low your body will work against you because it doesn't want to burn if you are not taking enough in. I would consider lightening up a little if I were you, I don't know your exact intake but I would think that a couple extra pieces of fruit a day or some other healthy snacks might help your system. It couldn't hurt to try it for a week and see what you think.
I am thinking about changing my diet up a bit right now. I have been kind of leveled out for awhile and having quite a few issue with my allergies. I don't have an allergist appointment for a few months but I am wondering about a food allergy. Sometimes I feel like such a hypocondriac...well I am going to try to restrict an item at a time and see how I feel. You would not believe the amount of medication I had to use to stop a recent reaction, something just isn't right.
Friday morning
Omagraf - Sandy 155.5 (up1)...I'm so confused this week that I'm heading the wrong direction! ![]()
Yep...I know the feeling of heading up. I wasn't very good on my trip and since I have been home...

Hey Sandy! You are probably right. The one thing that I factor in is that I am not a measurer of my food, so I am certain that I underestimate. I would say that I am probably eating a good 100-200 calories that I am not counting.
My problem is that I can't stick with it right now. I am yo-yo'ing from 228-240. There are many "reasons" (or excuses if you would prefer
) as to why, but I just need to get back in the swing of things.

I can't complain this week. I have been hitting the gym or treadmill most days and since we leave on Tuesday for our trip I've been running around more at night. I'm going to be exhausted before I get on that plane!

Not too bad, considering I splurged on ice cream on Wed, and I only exercised on Tuesday. I really have to get back into things, I'd really like to drop a size by fall.
I am 43 and have been struggling with my weight for years. I want to loose about 110 pounds. I am 260, 5ft6. I
My problem is not a food addiction. Its more I don't eat enough and can't exercise alot due to medical issues. I have started eating alittle more than I used to. I never realized how much calories are in certain foods until I started logging what I eat. Craziness
I have been a CC member since june 11 and have lost 10 pounds. No I am at a stand still once again.
Good luck in your weight loss.
mavmom, I am 42 and I have a 3 year old, too. I know how stressful it is. I also have 5 older children. I have found that walking every day has helped me lose weight, 18 pounds since February. I walk about five miles every day. Start out slowly and work up to a faster pace and a longer distance. It clears the mind and you will notice a difference in how you look and feel. Don't give up. Also, what has helped me: Don't take seconds no matter what. Once you get used to not having second helpings, don't fill your plate. Only eat when you are hungry, not stressed, tired, bored, etc. Good luck with your weight loss!

Great week Tammy and Kristine, congrats.
Cynthia I am with you on wanting to drop a size! What I currently wear is a little loose but the next size down is still too tight!
Terry, I'd race you to see who could drop the weight that snuck up on us but I know you'd beat me! But then again...let's just see who can get rid of the weight that went in the "wrong direction" first.
Had a pretty good weekend, but yesterday I got slammed with my allergies and asthma while I was cleaning some closets. It took about 4 hours to get myself calmed down again, but I managed to not have to go to the hospital!
Hi all. I leave on my vacation tomorrow so I won't be online for the next 11 days. I weighed in this morning at 172.5. I didn't quite make my goal but close enough. I was hoping to be 170 by now. Since the scales in Ireland measure in Stone and not pounds I converted my weight so I can hopefully keep on track over there. I weigh 12.35 stone (Sounds so much better than 172.5!).
Hope you all keep on track!
Kristine
Where is everyone? To catch you all up on me....
I've increased my walking up to 5.3 miles a day. I'm getting a deficit of 1000 a day now. So I'm seeing my weight go down again, thank goodness!!!! I break it up throughout the day. I'm not walking on a treadmill either, so I'm out getting a tan in the process! lol I could never walk that far on a treadmill.....too boring! I don't know how people do it! :D
My weeks run Sunday - Saturday so I can't wait til Saturday to see the end result. So far down 1.2 lbs.
Has anyone seen the show "Baby borrowers"? I love that show! Teens just don't know how hard it is to be parents. Well, they're finding out on this show!
well, be back tomorrow! :D
