Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds ennazus520
  Jan 28 2008 19:41
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Ali, I mean what if a Korean resident gets aids.  What do they do with them?  They have no other country to deport them to...do they just put them in quarantine?
#482 alibsam Feb 29 2008 19:36
Remember how they used to have leper colonies back in the day? From what I gather, that's about what happens here... at least that's how I see it from the information some Korean co-workers have given me...
#483 alibsam Feb 29 2008 19:40
pink cobra: I just saw your other post. Koreans actually have a special word for people who are racially Korean but grew up in the US/Canada/etc... it's gyopo (gee-yoh-po). I've seen a lot of job posting requesting gyopo's. The kids respect someone they can identify with... even if that person doesn't speak Korean. So the kids would be much better behaved for you than me because you LOOK Korean. And honestly, a lot of the Korean-Americans/Canadians that are here were adopted from Korea and they came to meet their biological families and learn about Korean culture... the rest are those whose parents immigrated and many speak pretty good Korean haha.

And you look great, by the way!!
#484 pinkcobra Feb 29 2008 19:46
Maybe it was just the agency I was looking at then.?  The lady told me there would most likely be problems because I'm not caucasian...  Or maybe it was just her.  I have always wanted to go back.  My adoption is closed and there aren't even names of my birth parents, but I would love to get more in touch with my heritage.  I used to go to Korean Heritage Camp growing up and that was so great.  So if I come over there in the next couple years I'll look you up! :)  I have a friend who did a program in a uni over there for 3 months where she learned Korean...I'd love to do something like that.
#485 alibsam Feb 29 2008 19:51
If you really want to learn Korean I can send you some websites and recommend a book. Hangeul is really easy to learn to read. I learned in one hour how to read the characters. Grammar is tough and hard to learn without taking classes... also...

www.hanlingo.com is a great place to find someone to do a language exchange. It will be really hard with the time difference but you could download skype and get a microphone and practice speaking with a Korean (skype is free)... I could also help with learning the characters.

thought I'd share a cute quote my friend told me... "The miracle is not that I finished the race... it's that I had the courage to start."  =)  Happy Friday!

yessicazctcs - Hi! I recently read the book skinny bitch and it was amazing. I am now a vegetarian and I think I will eventually transition to vegan. My very best friend in the world stopped eating meat about 1.5 years ago and has since lost 180 pounds.(She is half of what she used to be!) You can see her pics here on CC+. Her screenname is mmcoady (or it might be mm_coady.) can't remember which one. It is definitely true that it can help you lose weight! I didn't ever think I could do it, but here I am. I highly recommend reading the book skinny bitch and also watching "meet your meat" - you can find it on youtube.

i just got home from an hour on the elliptical!!! whew! tired. happy weekend!

alibuch: It's really enlightening to learn all of this about Korea, it makes me aware of how much I really take for granted. You are not monopolizing the board, it's interesting to talk about things other than weight loss 24/7.

yessi (Jessica) I could never give up meat. I love chicken and turkey way too much. I hardly ever eat red meat or pork, so I could easily give them up, but not chicken and turkey.

pinkcobra: (ThIs Is Me JuMpInG uP aNd DoWn To CeLeBrAtE yOuR sUcCeSs! Yay for a twelve! I am so happy for you! Have a great weekend on the coast. Your belly pic is awesome! Keep up the good work.

weekend plans? I think my hubby and I are going shopping and of course out to dinner.

Dalma: I bet it still feels great though to be able to buy a 16 dress. I still need an 18 myself, but I have hope for a smaller sized future!

Happy weekend everyone!

I'm not sure how I feel about the Skinny Bitches book. I think I should just break down and read it, but my first thought is wondering why it's okay for skinny women to be bitches. Is it becuase they're pretty and skinny and people like them even if they're bitches? People don't look at fat women and immediately like them (unless you just like fat people, which does happen) It's like, fat girls have to try harder to be liked - fat, smart, funny, etc. Where as skinny women can just be skinny (not even pretty, but just skinny) and people just like them right away.

Maybe I'm just jealous I'm not a skinny bitch. But like... fat bitch just seems doubly bad, where as skinny bitch it's only one strike against you.

hahah. does any of this make sense? I don't know... maybe I'm just too uppity and crazy - a fat bitch!

Okay, I totally want to join! I keep looking for girls my age who have more than 50 pounds to lose, and I can't find many. I don't want to lose quite as much as 100 pounds, but I do want to lose at least 70. I'm about 5'8", and currently weigh about 220 pounds. It's been really hard for me stay committed and eat right and go to the gym. I don't know why, but motivation is really hard for me. I think it might be because I work so hard mentally (I'm in law school). But I don't want to have my weight interfere with my job search. Plus I'm studying law at Oxford (in England) this summer, and I don't want to be the fat American girl! I also found this amazing picture of Kate Winslet, and it is now my official motivation picture.

kate winslet is gorgeous. that link you posted doesn't work though. :(
#492 danibelle414 Mar 01 2008 23:44

feddiechick - just so you know, they're not promoting being an actual skinny bitch. in fact, at the end, they say something about that, it's quite funny. Basically, the writers of the book are being "bitches" and telling it to you like it is. i agree with your arguments though! :) Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hey everybody.  I'm glad to see so many posts, from new and old.  I couldn't believe I missed 10 whole pages of posts since I was here last!  I have been with my family in Northern Michigan for the last 10 days, which is why I haven't done any posting.  My mother's internet is achingly slow, so I don't even bother when I'm there.  I didn't bother writing down what I ate either, because it was all comfort food and LOTS of sweets, with NO exercise.  I didn't drink enough water while I was there either, so I'm not even going to step on the scale for another 2 days to assess the dammage, cuz I'm certain I'm retaining at least a gallon!  Anyway, I'm getting myself back on track.  I need to go grocery shopping  because I have no fresh produce and only processed frozen meals.  So here's to sticking to the plan and seeing some results!

p.s. Suzanne- Thanks for the post to check up on me.  Allydan- Your PM was really thoughful and very much appreciated.  I was a little afraid that no one would miss me on here (that I'd have to find a new thread or something dreadful like that!).  Thanks for continuing to make me feel welcomed.  You rock!

1. Kate Winslet is hot. Tongue out

2. Completely agree you can be gorgeous and fat and all people have to say is  ...."such a pretty face..................."  Frown

3. Skinny Bitches can have a horse face and still be considered "hot" ( Paris Hilton anyone??)

4 Alibutch, since you where talking about the diff. aspects of teaching abroad would it be a + or a -  to speak Spanish and look Hispanic? Cool  <-- Mexismiley

5. Congrats to everyone!!!  Pinkcobra I pray for the day when I will be back @ a size 12! Laughing

#495 watchmeshine82 Mar 02 2008 12:56
yessica... two things that you said that really struck home.  One, I hate when people say to me "you would be so beautiful IF you lost weight b/c you have such a pretty face." and the second, I too DREAM of the day I can put on a size 12s again.... the last time was circa 1995!!!
#496 alibsam Mar 02 2008 14:22
yessica: (there's no "t" in my name :P)
Do you mean a plus or a minus being hispanic in Korea? I've seen several... it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.

The 'pretty face' thing sucks. I was seeing this beaaauuutiful Korean guy... and I went out with him and 4 of his friends (all Koreans) and one of them (the drunkest one) said "oh you're so pretty but you'd be more beautiful if you went on diet"... haha
#497 yessicazctcs Mar 02 2008 16:34

OMG ALI!! I am so sorry Tongue out, n u know what I think I had also spelled it like that in the past.  Just goes to show how carefully I read before I start posting. Embarassed

Any way guys I was reading the book Skinny Bitch  that was recommended on here by danibelle414 ( thanks by the way!!!!)  and even though I don't agree w/ everything that they say and I know it's not for everyone it is very very interesting. There is a preview available on google books , def recommend that everyone read it.

I think I fixed the link.  For some reason, it was putting a space between the "i" and the "a" in "media," even though it was typed correctly.  At any rate, the way she looks in that picture epitomizes what I think the ideal woman looks like.  She's curvy, healthy, has some "boobs and butt," and just looks soft and feminine.  I hate the hard, harsh, angular, "skinny bitches" that we've been talking about on here.  They don't look like women!  To me, skinny does not equal automatic beauty.  Give me Marilyn Monroe over Audrey Hepburn any day!  (Although, I do love Audrey Hepburn, I just prefer Monroe's body style.)  And for men who want pin-thins like Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton, or even the hard, muscular types like Jessica Biel and Evangeline Lilly, I guess that's okay.  I just don't want to look that way.  Why can't women be pillowy and soft and healthy?

I had an off day today.  I didn't eat anything horrible but I know that I ate a little over 2000 calories. *sigh*  On a positive note, I got a lot of cleaning and organization done so I feel better about things.... I also realized that when I'm sitting in my place all day long (as opposed to being at work) and have all this food available, I am not as good at staying at 1700.  At work, I can only have what I take so I stick to my plan....

Loved my latin craze and salsa classes yesterday!  lots of fun!  I felt a little self-consciou being the heaviest girl in the room but took a no-worries attitude toward it since I knew I was there to have fun and for my health, not to worry about what anyone thought of me
