Anyone in this grouping looking to drop from 140 to 130's.  We can all use support.  Today I am focusing on all the food groups.  Exercise would be good, but I won't be able to since I am working from 9 to 10:30.  A Super long day.  I hope I can stay focused, when I pass the fast food chaines on my travels today.

whenever i get sick i always ease myself back into the exercise routine with lighter workouts.  gotta give yourself time to recover!

i'm holding fast at 143.  which is great. BUT i haven't been fluctuating AT ALL. which is weird. normally--i'm up, down, up, down, different every day.  but i've been at 143 for the past 5 days or so. still giving it time to see what's going on--having dinner out tonight so my calories will be a bit higher :)  i've started eating more throughout the day--about 300 calories more--so hopefully start seeing results.  i just WISH my scale showed more than 0.5 lb changes. grrr! PLUS this morning--i weighed 143 butt-naked before my shower AND 143 after my shower with wet hair AND a wet towel on!!! i mean, WTF mate???  i even tried using a different scale and then the same scale in a different place. same thing! WEIRD!

but i'm still pretty happy at 143 :) i just won't be if i stay there too long :)  when i started, i don't think i believed it possible for me to get down to 143 :)

but glad you're feeling better carabo!

ugh, i'm having such a bad day!  i'm on my period and it just sucks, i feel HUGE!!!  i weighed myself this morning, pathetically, i think, to add to my misery and was shocked the scale said 147.  apparantly, my body and the scale don't talk 'cause i feel so gross and that's the lightest i've ever seen myself.  But it still didn't lift my mood.

i went out to lunch with some friends today with an exact plan of what i was going to order.  they all chose to do family style before i got there; i was PISSED, i couldn't even believe how mad i got ... man i must be pms-ing!  i had to take some deep breaths and really think about how it would be ok, i'd just eat very little.  embarassing though, i think a couple friends noticed i was pissed.  they tried to get two pastas with white sauce, i insisted one have red.  they tried to get two super bad for you salads, i insisted one be a spinach salad (although it did have bacon on it and who knows what dressing).  i ate a decent amount of spinach salad, a little linguini w/ red sauce, passed on the giant desserts.  all in all, i think i did ok.  i just hate sabotaging my diet when i don't even want to - frustrating!!  but, geez, i need to keep it together - I didn't know i could get so frustrated over food - yikes!!
#423 dharma_bum Mar 07 2007 22:26
How do you get out of the 140's and stay out. I've gone down to 137.5, but I always end up back at 140-42. What needs to be changed altered when you get into the 130's?
#424 carabo Mar 08 2007 02:07
kiigan, 143 is a great weight :) ! I know you dont want to be there forever.. but just giving you my perspective :). Its funny how the scale doesnt move.. not to you Im guessing ;) - but it is a bit funny :D.. Wish you downward movement soon :).

Hey teenwolf, thats alright. I know exactly how you feel @ irritated over small things. It is embarassing when friends find out :(..

Good job @ eating the salad and passing on dessert.  Hang in there- you should get better in a while..

Hi everyone :)

That happened to me too Kiigan! My aunt gave me this really nice shirt that was too tight on me during the summer (I've since lost 15) and it FIT. I felt excited because sometimes I don't feel like I've lost weight and we all need an outside influence to confirm it :)
#426 srd1214 Mar 08 2007 12:22
Hi!

I'm new here, 22, 5'7 and would like to get to 130. And here's my story...

Right now I'm aiming to eat 1400-1600/day, doing aerobic tapes for 40-50min 3-4 days a week and some cardio/strength training videos 2-3 times a week fo 30-40 min. I've come to the realization that 30min of exercise a day is just what is needed to keep your body healthy. I'm working full time, going to school part time and making time to get my exercise in. Ugh, it's kind of difficult to focus on school, exercising and eating well, but I know I can do it. I'm also newly living with my "eat anything and look fine" 6' boyfriend. He, too, is trying to eat healthy and is doing pretty well. I started cooking for both of us and we are, as planned, slowly noticing some changes. This time last year I was probably around 148 and JUST broke the 140 barrier last week and have gotten to 139.8 :) I count that as getting past it since I'm not planning on going back up!! Last year I lost 7 lbs, and went back to no exercise and eating bad and gained it all back. I weighed 146 in January and am not making the same mistake twice! Once it EVER stops snowing and warms up a little here in NE Ohio, I'm going to start riding my bike to work. 8 mi each way. My goal is to start riding the 2nd week of April. I did it last year when I lived with my parents and that was only 3 mi each way and it made a big difference in the way I burned calories due to my muscle gain. This year I'm adding an Ipod to my route so it should make the time go a little faster which will be needed since the trip this year is 3x as long!

My whole life has been growing up with an overweight family. My sisters and I were raised to finish EVERYTHING on our plate when eating things like Hamburger Helper and Rice-a-roni and some hot dogs(not all at once, but those things alone were pretty much our every day meals). I love and respect my parents very very much but their eating habits are not those to be desired... My mom is struggling with her weight to this day. My dad is pretty lean though so my mom doesn't really get the support she needs from him, so my sisters and I try to help her out. My awesome older sister had a baby a year ago and since August has lost 45 lbs!! I'm so proud! My younger sister was blessed with a full bottom and is pretty short compared to the rest of us. My older sister is 5'9, and my younger is about 5'4. the younger sister got back from school about a year ago, probably 15lbs heavier than when she left. She told me she has lost about 10lbs since getting home and would like to get to 125-120. She is doing great!!

I think I look ok now and it's hard because I don't get a lot of support from some of my not so motivated friends. I get tons of support from my sisters and mom so that is nice. I've noticed that the one thing helping me is motivation and reminding myself that I CAN do this! I've set up a reminder in my email at work to send me a little note every half hour of what my weekly goals are. Right now I have it set up for "1 LB/WK! KEEP IT UP! YOU CAN DO IT!!" It's really helping me out. I'm not trying to make some crazy change all at once b/c I know that just isn't plausible. I'm mainly wanting to focus on changing my eating habits, knowing that the weight loss should follow. I want this to be a life change so I can raise a family with a healthy lifestyle.

I'm looking forward to giving and receiving advice through this thread! I'm glad that I have found people going through the same thing I am! Hopefully I'll be able to check in daily to see what's new.

Thanks for reading!! Nice to meet you all!!

teen--
Sorry about the restaurant fiasco :( good for you for making your friends get some of the healtheir foods. don't worry too much about having one splurge though--it's good for your body to have higher calorie intakes some days.  it'll groove too easily if you eat the same amounts day after day after day.  last night--i had a HUGE dinner splurge, but i LOVED every single bite :) so try to enjoy those special meals---just keep them special, not a regular occurence :)

dharma--
well...seeing as how i haven't broken the 143 barrier yet, not totally sure :) i would say...change up your exercise routine and calorie intake levels--try zig-zagging or increasing what you eat by 200-300 cals for a couple weeks and see what happens.  maybe focus on toning your body and dropping the inches and use the scale less.  just some ideas.

carabo-
thanks for the support :) i did fluctuate today--a half pound up, but i was just glad to see the scale actually change! :) i'm not too concerned about the number--as long as it doesn't stay here forever! or actually...if it does, that's okay so long as i keep shedding inches! if i can get into a size 5/6 but still be at 143--screw it! i'm wearing a 5/6!!! :)

chrysteas--
awesome with the shirt! i love trying on old clothes :) it ALWAYS makes me feel better.  just gives me a little bounce in the step.

srd-
WELCOME! so great to have new ppl here!  congrats on breaking the 140 barrier!!!! i'm hoping to get there by around the beginning of april--we'll see what happens!  that's awesome that you and your b/f are doing this together--it's a great way to start out living together.  sorry to hear friends aren't so supportive, but it's awesome that your family is. my mom is my gym buddy and accountability partner, so that works great for me.  i added you to my friends list--so if you want, you can add me back and write in your journal and i'll pretty much always leave a little comment. the journal is my fave source of support.  sounds like you've got a great approach and great attitude! keep it up!!!

i didn't go to the gym this morning like i usually do, so i'll probably try to workout later on tonight.  if i don't--not a huge loss. it's also kind of a practice for me to not become obsessed with exercise and to not feel like crap if i don't do it.  i have a tendency to become a little compulsive about some stuff--and i want to make sure that this doesn't turn into an obsession.
#428 knarik Mar 08 2007 13:42
Same here kiigan! i've been so busy lately with school/work/special events i havent been able to go to the gym ni about a week ana half! AHHHG. horrible i know. i also got food poisoning the day i was meant to go back. but you know what i'm still eating healthy, and i'm planning on heading back to the gym tomorrow and maybe for 3-4 days a week if i can fit it in. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, becuase the scale is still getting lower and my tummy is still getting smaller!
#429 kiigan Mar 08 2007 13:52
congratulations knarik! glad to hear you're going to be heading back soon!!!  and yeah--if you're getting smaller and the scale's going down--i wouldn't worry a smidge! :)

that sucks about food poisoning though...icky! there was a thread on here awhile ago, and soem guy was saying he got food poisoning, and it caused him to lose like, 10 lbs in a week or something, and everyone was asking, "what did you do? that's amazing!" and he's just like--it's called the hepatitus diet.  pretty funny :)
#430 carabo Mar 09 2007 07:05
Kiigan, That is funny :D.. @ "what did you do? thats amazing" :D

I'm pretty much in the same boat - obsessing about when I do NOT exercise. So much that I feel fat just because I didnt exercise on a particular day- which is wierd ! Anyway, I didnt get time to work out on Thursday :P..so not feeling too great.

Welcome srd1214..  it is great to be around people going through the same stuff.

I ate 1800 + calories on Thursday :(.. I stopped counting at around 1600 - so I cant be sure.. but I know that I was overfull. It feels like a long time since I restricted myself to 1200 calories ! In fact I have been very lax for the past week and thats alright cause I wasnt well.. But I really am planning to tighten the leash (or rather the belt :D ) starting Friday.. i.e. today.
#431 srd1214 Mar 09 2007 11:08
I agree with lack of motivation sometimes for workouts. What are your normal workout time allotments? I usually workout for 45 minutes but if I'm feeling particularly unmotivated I'll only work out for 30. Or I'll start one of my dvd's that is broken into sections and tell myself I'll just do the first section. Sometimes I do stop after that but most of the time I figure that I've already started, I might as well finish! I have one dvd broken down into 3, 10 minute segments. Those 10 minute exercises are great to do one at a time and I still feel like I got a decent workout in. :)

I'm not really much of a gym goer... By the time I get out of class, I don't usually get home until 930 so I don't ever feel like going to the gym that late. Even though it would probably be dead, so that would be nice! But I think most of the gyms in my area are open till 10. So that doesn't really help. I have 4 dvd's that I rotate weekly. 1 of them that I don't use I've already outgrown, but I've had it since the beginning of last year, so I suppose that makes sense!
#432 kiigan Mar 09 2007 13:04
i don't really have a specific amount of time that i work out for--well, yeah, not really. but i go to the gym before work 5 days a week, so i'm there from abotu 5:30 until 6:30. i just workout until i need to leave so that i can get ready.  so i usually put in about an hour but i don't worry too much about the clock--just do my exercises until i finish kind of thing.

sometimes i'll do an extra workout after i get home--usually abs--and on sunday i don't go to the gym but i'll do 1 or 2 of my Turbo Jam DVDs.  i just really enjoy exercising now, so it's not too hard to do it. but i usually have to do it in the morning--i can't do it as well at night.

and carabo--i don't think i could ever stick to 1200 :) i'm usually at about 1000 by the time i leave work, and then i just eat dinner (which i often don't log!) but yesterday i had a HUGE salad--and i'm still so shocked by how many vegetables you can eat and still not rack up many calories
#433 srd1214 Mar 09 2007 13:28
I see, that is a really good plan to follow. I'd love to be able to work out in the a.m. I have to be at work by 7 though, so I'd never be able to get out of bed in time for all of that! Usually by the time I get home from school I'm kinda tired. Last night I really didn't want to work out but once I got changed and started I put a little more umph in my step. I tried a little bit of the high impact challenge on Tuesday, but wasn't that motivated last night. I'm starting to really enjoy exercising as well and it seems to be affecting my everyday attitude and energy. Yay :)

I tried a 1200 calorie diet last year and hated it. I just couldn't do it! Plus, it wasn't enough motivation for me to keep eating healthy b/c I felt like I was depriving myself. Now I'm aiming for 1500 a day, which doesn't seem like a lot but when I log my meals, I think, wow, I couldn't have this if I were only eating 1200 calories! It's tough! I'm sure you can do it though if you stick to it! :)
#434 waterphoenix Mar 09 2007 13:40
Hello all!
I'm 149 again today so I guess this is the new place for me!
It's good to see everyone is doing well (except for the food poisoning) and making progress. Keep it up!
#435 kiigan Mar 09 2007 15:24
i think 1200 is bad for me too because i do workout pretty much every day--so i need more cals than that.  i doubt that my deficits are anything enormous, but i dont' really mind losing the weight slowly.  i'm still shedding inches pretty well--and that is a lot of fun :)

welcome water!!!! it's always great to have new folks! congrats on the dropping pounds!
#436 teenwolf Mar 09 2007 16:50
wow, i cannot do 1200 calories a day.  i'd rather just work out more!!  i have about 1400-1600 calories per day (good days:)).  i would be so hungry at 1200 i wouldn't be able to stand it.

well, i weighed in today and lost a pound since last friday - whoo!! i'm now at 146.50! and, like kiigan, i put on a pair of pants at the bottom of my drawer (at the bottom 'cause they were too small) ... and they fit! :D  they are also a size smaller than the pants i've been wearing, so i'm super jazzed! ahhh, success sure feels good!

unfortunately, i got rid of most of my smaller clothes in december thinking it was so dumb to keep them around since they didn't even fit.  now i wish i still had them, bummer!
#437 carabo Mar 09 2007 17:51
Teenwolf, congratulations on 146.5 ! Wow!

Welcome waterphoenix :)..

I'm somewhat relieved that no one else seems to be managing 1200 calories either :D.. partners in sin ? It is so hard to manage within that limit..most days I do shoot up to 1400 (good days)..

I still do lose weight *slowly*, but there is always that nagging thought "think how much better you would lose if you had eaten lesser last night :D "..

srd1214 I work out on most evenings..average of 5 days a week. I'm not a morning person - so though I love the idea of a morning workout- I generally go to the gym at around 6/7 in the evening. Get home just in time for a hot shower and dinner. And oh yeah, I've gotta be sure there is something nutritious to eat after the workout - so I generally get dinner started before I leave..to reduce any chances of post workout snacking.

Kiigan, how I wish I could snack on veggies.. I always reach out for something sweet when I get the snacking urge.. You inspire me though- let me just TRY out some carrots today :D..They cant be that bad..
#438 kiigan Mar 09 2007 19:13
lol. yeah--they're not THAT bad :) i actually love fresh red peppers too--they're kind of sweet with a TON of flavor.  i never liked them til i went to college, then i would put them on salads and stuff just to make sure there was some flavor in the dish! my cafeteria had this amazing ability to cook things that smelled DELICIOUS but had ZERO flavor :)

congrats wolfie! i don't know why--i always want to call you wolfie :)  that's awesome! solidly in the 140's! woohoo!  wear those skinny pants!
#439 teenwolf Mar 09 2007 19:23
thanks carabo! :)  i love seeing a number i've never seen on the scale!

you know, i wouldn't spend too much energy kicking yourself for not being down to 1200 calories.  if you were eating that little, you'd probably be so hungry that it would be hard to keep the weight loss thing going and you'd be more likely to give up!  and losing weight slowly is sooo good, just think, it's more likely you'll keep it off because you're losing so slowly ... that always makes me feel better anyway!

I am sooo not a morning person either.  i do the same as you carabo.  after work, i do my workout then come home for dinner.  ahh, dinner after a workout, you feel like you so deserve it!

as for snacking, i'm not such a carrot muncher either, although i do from time to time, but i don't enjoy it much.  i have some healthy snacks around home though.  i recently bought a bag of prepared broccoli & cauliflower ... and a bag of carrots (sometimes you can get these all together).  i made a pkg of good seasons italian dressing subbing 1/2 the oil it called for with water.  i then threw all the fresh veggies (total 28oz of veggies) in a container and poured the dressing on it and shook it up and let it sit for a day, shaking it up again once in awhile.  now i have veggies to snack on that are super easy to grab and yummy!  i ate about a cup of it the other night and it's only like 80 calories - perfect!

another thing i do is i keep those dole fruit cups from the produce section around.  they're a little higher in calories 'cause they're in 'extra light syrup' which adds some calories.  but these are super yummy and so convenient for when i haven't had time to go to the store to get fresh fruit and veggies.

and if i'm planning to try and munch on carrots, i make some hummus (mine's half the calories as the stuff at the store) and dip them in the hummus ... also yummy!  just some suggestions if you're not much of a carrot muncher like me.
