Weight Loss

Greetings!
I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

I'll start the friday weigh in I guess. I am not surprised with my weigh in this morning, I am holding onto lots of fluids right now. I think that next week I'll have lost 2 or more lbs when I get past this, I'll check my weight again when the symptoms subside and let you know for sure what I weigh. Still looking forward to a great weekend here, a little too hot but I'll take it after what seemed like a long winter.
Omagraf, Sandy - 158 (1lb gain)
It's supposed to be really hot for us too this weekend! We're going to a friend's cottage, though, which should be cooler but full of mosquitoes this time of year.
I haven't worked out this week at all except for a couple of walks. Next week I'll have to get back at it!

Hey, I just joined cc may 23. I stumbled on this thread. I am 45 and weighed in a an all time high of 206.5 when I started. I'm struggling to lose now. I was delighted to look through some of your replies especially the ones where you weigh in. It encouraged me a lot to see you all have some of the same struggles. Losing weight after 40 is possible it seems. But there are going to be ups and downs. That is what I've found reading some of your posts. I am trying to set my mind for that! I can't stand this battle with the scale. So I am trying to work on just eating right and exercising. It's not that I don't weigh myself but I just weigh myself, log it and try to move on. I just did put my stats in a excel spread sheet and figured out that I have 13,000 calorie deficit for the 13 days. Some days I'm around 600 and other 1300 or whatever. (Mostly because of workouts) If this caloric science actually worked as it says it does then I should have lost 4 lbs (3500 less calories consumed than used = 1 lb)

Welcome PJlittle. This a great group. Really helps you focus when you know you are going to "report in!". I had no change this week and I should very happy about that. I had a horrible week. Ate bad and snacked a lot! Between my kids softball/baseball games, work and my daughters school projects we just had a very busy week. The only exercise I got was an hour practice for the PTA-Teacher Softball game I'm participating in next week. I have to say it was a lot of fun to be on the field playing rather that watching from the stands. I haven't played in years! I did manage to pull a muscle in my leg but hopefully it will be fully recovered by Tuesday. Its funny, I run a bit on the treadmill but it is a complete different story to try to sprint down the first base line. I defintely fel very awkward when I run - and probably look worse!
Its going to be very hot here in NY too this weekend. Kids have games most of Saturday but hopefully we'll get some Beach time on Sunday.
Hope you all have a great weekend. I hope to get back on track this week!
Hi pjlittlefr; you actually made a spread sheet of your stats? You are more ambitious than me. I check the values here to keep an eye on things, but I am not charting things that well. It seems too easy to have a week where I put on 5 lbs of water weight and spend the whole week working to shed it. I am better about watching the calories because I know that I have to check in here. I have no idea why but I seem to drop a couple of lbs then stall for awhile. I am due to drop again (according to my wierd history here) so I am hoping to have made better progress before the end of june. I hope that everyone is staying cool this week, is it me or did we go from freezing to frying really quick this year? There hasn't been much of a spring here.
Goal Weight: 131
Startng Weight: 210
Beginning Weight when joining CC: 207
Last weigh in: 202.5
This week: 202.5
Loss/Gain: none
Non Weight Goals: Working out 5X a week:
By October achieve (when my husband gets back from military training)
50 miles swimming: 11.89 miles so far!
200 miles on elliptic trainer: 41 miles so far!
and 50 miles walking or hiking, 22.42 miles so far!
and do "strength" training with weights 2 days a week: 1 hour twice this week! abs machines and hip abductors and adduction machine 5 days
Eat healthier: Ok progress - eating lots more veges and fruit, but still sometimes indulging in sweet treats which may be sabatoging my weight loss.
Personal Victory this week I went to an all day graduation party this weekend and only had one piece of cake and a small little cup of ice cream. I avoided all the breads, pastas and high calorie foods I usually eat and ate lots of fruit, veges and probably 2oz of chicken.
Yes, I have been doing a spread sheet of my stats including sugar, sodium, morning and evening weights, calories burned and calories eaten. I know my deficit everydays since I started on cc. Weird huh! But I am determined to find out what works best for me. Right now I am in what I call the scientific exploration page. I want to lose weight but I'm really just trying to figure out what makes my metabolism tick! I had been homeschooling for 8 years this is my first year without summer lesson planning etc. I guess I had to replace all that planning with something!![]()
Welcome pjlittle! I like figures too, but I haven't done up a spreadsheet for weight loss yet.
I'm up *6* pounds from last Friday (yes four days!) I know that most of that is water weight, but still! I ate way too many burgers and hot dogs over the weekend because we were at a friend's cottage, and a few pieces of pie sneaked in there too. Oh well, all I can do is get back on track and start again.
Hey everyone...congrats on doing so well and thanks for the welcome back. So, I am back on track and pretty motivated. I ended up at 238 for a high...still close to 35lbs down from where I started, but up 9lb from my lowest before my trip and "mental health break". As of this morning, I was at 234, so things are back to going in the right direction. I am a little mad now at taking a break (even though I know I needed it) and I plan on dropping the remaining 34 as soon as possible. Back to walking 2-3 miles a day, rising my bike, etc.
Also as some of you know, my job situation was pretty unstable. As of last week, I found out that I officially will lose my job at the end of September. It isn't a huge deal as I am sure I'll find something else. To be honest, I am thinking about taking a couple of months off, but we'll see. I am thinking about taking my severance package and buying a new Harley. LOL
Anyway...good to be back and thanks for the support and encouragement.
Speaking of pics...here is me down in one of the slot canyons in Utah. These are slots cut down into the ground by water drainage. This particular one was about 20 feet under ground.

Great picture Terry, you're looking really healthy! Those canyons look like a great place to explore. As for the job, something will come up I'm sure. I've been through the layoff routine a couple of times now (high tech can be rough) and you just have to be patient. I'll be getting back on track right alongside you; I've been taking a bit of a workout break too.
Great picture Terry. I love it out there. I've only been out to Arizona twice but it is definitely a place I want to go back too. We hiked down the Grand Canyon years ago and stayed in the cabins at the bottom - that was such a great experience. I also love Monument Valley - it doesn't get anymore beautiful than that! I could use some "mental break" time too. I feel like I am constantly running in circles and nothing is getting done. I'm looking forward to our trip in July.
Sorry to hear about your job but glad you are not broken up over it. It is scary how many people are losing their jobs these days. It is something I worry about these days but hopefully I will weather the storm. They have layed off about 5,000 so far this year (across the whole firm). I'm hoping things pick up so they don't come through again.
Its been way too hot to work out this past week so I feel like I have lost some motivation. Hopefully things will cool down a little and I will start to get some exercise again. I have been eating pretty well (if you don't count the 3 Musketeer bar that I just ate!)
Happy Friday 13th! Well, I think the heat is just not going to let me shed the water weight right now (I could take something to help me out but I already take enough stuff and try not to add to the pill pile). Hopefully the weekend weather will be a little milder and I will really watch the sodium and see if I can get rid of it. Great to see Terry back and feeling better. Sorry about the job thing, I haven't gone through it for sometime now. My last employer sold to a bigger company and I was one of the few who thought they were going to sell us off in pieces so I searched for a job. Six months after I left there the company I now work for bought the actual site I used to work at (when they were selling off the pieces)! I had to go to the site and help with the transition, we didn't keep any of the staff (a little wierd), but I did try to tell them. Once you go through something like that you are always thinking "what if". Well I'll start the Friday thing, not great here but not bad either.
Omagraf - Sandy 157, still hanging in that same area
I'll start off this morning. That weekend at the cottage really did a number on me, but all I can do is keep going.
cynthb - Cynthia - 176.2 up 4.4, blah
Omagraf - Sandy 157, still hanging in that same area

MissyKris - Kristine - 177.5 down .5 (again)
I'm definitely on the local train for weight loss!
Thanks for the well wishes on the job. I have unofficially known for almost a year, so at this point, I am just tired of it and not even thinking about it. It is what it is...Also wanted to say thanks for all the support. I have found that I really need this to stay on track. It give things a sense of accountability when you have to "report" in on Friday. I am down 4lbs since Friday and 8lbs since I got my butt back in gear. My lowest weight before I left was 228, so maybe I can get back there in the next week or two. (wishful thinking).
Want to hear something totally crazy? Someone mentioned that you should carry your worst "fat" pic around with you and before you eat or whenever you have a craving, pull it out and have a look. Decide what means more...Anyway, I decided to give it a try and it really works for me. It drives home that saying that "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." Granted I would not be mistaken for "thin", but I think you know what I mean. ![]()

I'm not weighing in this week! I cannot get myself to step on the scale. I am so full of water weight my hands are swollen. Ya know, girl issues!! lol
I'll be back to weigh in next week, for sure. :D
Terry - I have a "fat" picture of me eating!!!! THAT'S really making me stay on track! lol
Stay on track this week everyone! We can do this together! :)
Congrats on the loss Kristine, keep up the good work!
I suppose my worst problem would be which is the worst fat picture...I know of many, in fact I do not even have too many pictures of myself (after a certain point). I tend to take the pictures to keep myself out of them. Even though I am down several sizes at this point I still have trouble getting in front of the camera. I am back on the soup diet and some stronger meds again! I have been shedding that pesky water weight and this morning weighed myself to find that I am over 1 lb less than I was on Friday. A rough way to do it, but at least I can say that something good came of it all!
I feel like I am cheating because the meds make me feel ill and I don't want anything to do with food. I am definitely not that way normally!!LOL
I do feel like getting out again today so this is good, maybe I can get past this little plateau I have been stuck at (weight wise). Have a good day everyone!
P.S. Terry, any more photos?
Here are a few...these are mostly down in the slot canyons. I'll have more in a while...
