| Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club | ||
| May 30 2007 23:53 | ||
| I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". . I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years. Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10). I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons. I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably. I may want to go on to a size 6 next. I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated. Maybe we can share ideas and recipes. Let me know if you are out there and interested. |

| I'm 44 yrs old with 5 children, 5'7" and started 10 days ago at 148 lbs. I have been trying to get back in the 130's forever. I have been eating 1500 calories a day for the past 10 days and have done lots of exercising which includes cardio and weights. I got on the scale today and it said 148 lbs after 10 days of hard work dieting and exercising. I'm so tired of trying to get smaller, I've tried my entire life and never gotten as trim as I wanted, but only a handful of glorious times and then gained it back. I am thinking I will just continue to eat the 1500 calories and working out trying to increase my fitness level and just say screw it to the weight loss. Maybe if I keep this up long enough, it will happen for me and I don't want to be discouraged just because the weight isn't coming off. In the meantime, I will be increasing my nutrition and fitness level regardless of weight. Maybe that is the answer for me. Any other time, I've quit exercising after the weight doesn't go down either way. Now I'm ready for the first time to forget about the weight and concentrate on fitness and nutrition. The scale disappoints. Anything less that 1500 calories will turn me into a ravenous animal. 1500 calories is the smallest amount I can do comfortably. | ||

Hello everyone!
Busy day today. I went to an early morning class called Total Tone and am sore already. I then took my daughter to view her proofs and order her senior pics. They all looked so great! Then I had to take my son to band camp. Next, my daughter had an appointment to take her driving test and she passed! Right now I am packing to go away for the weekend to visit family. In addition to the class I took this morning, I plan to rollerskate for about 2 hours this evening. It is great for the legs. I will stay within 1400 calories each day and I will exercise before leaving tomorrow. I think I will make Saturday my break day and then workout on Sunday when I return home. It is so hard to stay on track when with family! tonia, I think the best advice I can give is to look at the glycemic index of food. I was eating pretzels and rice cakes thinking I was doing good and then wondering why I continued to snack. Foods like peanuts, cherries, grapefruit, yogurt, and apples make much better snacks because they don't cause quite the spike in blood sugar. It is working for me. Great job with your workouts. You should be so proud. Congratulations to trixi, elabar, and everyone else who stayed the same or loss! Great job guys. Mburns, awesome workout! cc1170, I think if you are working hard and making progress, but don't want to splurge on a new outfit because you are trying to fit in things you already own, you could try an accessory. If you do good, why not treat yourself to a new belt or a fun pair of earrings. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts. Keep writing. Di |

Well I did it~ I got up early and did my exercise. I did a workout tape that was easier, but then when I was done I jumped for about 10 minutes and really got my heart rate up. I burned about 300 according to the counter. I am just happy I got it in and it is done for today. I also consumed just under 1400 calories yesterday, so I met my goals there. I am proud of myself, I even had a snack before bed. My weight this morning was 131.4 so I am down from the 133 from Monday! Yea! Does anyone know if you stay within calore limits if it is ok to snack before bed? I am kinda conflicted on this. I am finding it hard to not do it. So allowing myself room calorie wise works for me. I need to know if I will lose the weight doing this or not. Goals for today: exercise and stay under 1400. The weekend is coming and that is ALWAYS my downfall. I need to exercise tomorrow for sure! I will break on Sunday. |

HI EVERYONE,
lyndieloop: I believe you are so right to concentrate on the healthy lifestyle. One thing that is interesting to me is how differently our clothes can be fitting without the scale moving. I was a little frustrated this week because it is the third week in a row that I have not moved on the scale but all my clothes are hanging on me and I had to go buy a new pair of running shorts in size Small. I haven't worn a small in 4 years!! Now, I was down on the scale this morning but it is Friday. By Monday, I will probably be up again because of weekend sodium. By Wednesday, with my normal routine, I will be down again. The scale is like a fickle crowd, my friend one day and my greatest critic the next. Yes, do focus on workouts and doing all of the right things and your body will begin to change in the direction you want it to go. If 1500 calories keep you satisfied then eat 1500. At 148, you probably need 1800 for your daily needs without exercise. 1500 will put you into a 300 deficit which means you will lose 1 lb. every 12 days if you are religiously staying within the 1500 everyday. If you spend 200 calories doing your workouts, you should lose 1 lb per week. If you've kept to the program with no mess ups, then don't worry about the scale. It will soon reflect what you are doing. Good luck!! We are here for you!! CC1170: I just read recently that a snack before bed is fine if it's within your calories. As a matter of fact, it will make you sleep better. You don't want to go to bed hungry or it will effect your sleep and put you in a worse state. Great job with all you are doing!! Dievans: Thanks for the encourgement about glycemic foods. I will become more aware of that. Today I was at 140.0. The digital went down to 139.8 before it rested on 140.0. I haven't been below 140 in 3-4 years. The great thing is that I am in much better shape today then I was at 137 4 years ago. Yeah!! Ohio45: You go, girl! You are doing awesome! The binge is never worth what it takes to get it off, is it? Today: 1:45:00 of swimming in Master's Class. Burned 1032 calories. Calorie goal: 1800 Tomorrow (Sat): Bike 15 miles; Calorie goal: 1800 Greatest challenge: The barbeque cook off at church and eating dinner at neighbors. I will pack a cooler for the church with fruit, water and some boars head turkey and brown rice. I will taste the barbeque but not pig out. At the neighbors, I will limit myself to 2 glasses of wine and offer to make the dessert. Sunday: run 40 minutes; 1800 calories. Challenge: Lunch is going to be cooked by someone else again. Bring cooler with fruit and other healthy option. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!! THANKS FOR POSTING SINCE IT IS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MY DAY TO READ YOUR POSTS. |

Ohio-don't feel so bad. I fell hard last night. I ate a bunch of fudge stripe cookies, reeses cups, and cheese curls. My willpower went right out the window. I was craving salt and chocolate so bad! It is TTOM...
Now I feel really yucky and bad...I was going to exercise this am and didn't get it done. Since something came up. I am eating within limits thus far. It is Saturday and the night will be hard. I will be ok if I am good the rest of the weekend, but usually after a binge my eating habits need time to get back to good. My weight was up 1lb this morning. I haven't done a whole lot of anything today. Just a few chores, I am thinking that I should hike a little with my youngest daughter. But she is really slow and tires quick. But I don't have anyone to watch her. I am all showered now and hate to get all sweaty, but I need to do something! Or I will just exercise tomorrow since Sunday is usually my rest day. I don't want to gain a whole lot from eating badly this weekend, so I am going to try really hard. Even tho my dd is standing here asking me if she can have some cheese curls and the bag is within inches of me, I just want to reach in and grab some. I need strength! |

| hi,I bet noone remember me,anyway I am still need to loose these 10 last pounds ,I have lost four pounds and gained them back in two weeks just when I stopped this kimkins diet which is to low in carbs less than 20 G,now I am convinced to make a diet which suits my energy need to exersise, tomorrow is sunday that is why I cannot start my diet but monday sure sure I have to sart a three weeks diet(sundays are always off diet)I have a question which weight I have to rely on the morning one or the evening one, there is roughly two or three pounds difference.good work for those who exersise hard and good luck for the new commers and bravo for everyone who has reached his goal. | ||

Cc1170: Hang in there, girl!! Don't do it!! Put those cheese curls down!! No, really, the great thing about calories is you can have anything you want. The problem is what it will do to you. Those cheese curls, as you know, will bloat you and make you feel bad or cause you to crave sugar. Is that what you want? Ask yourself, why am I binging? Am I tired, depressed, lonely, afraid? Or, have I deprived myself so much that I want to eat the whole bag? Or, am I bored with my food selection? Boredom is the one that nails me, that's why I love calorie counting because you are not eliminating whole food groups.
You have been doing so well. You've come too far to lose the ground you've gained; or, should I say: to gain the ground you've lost. Ghadar: Welcome back. My opinion about morning or evening is to weigh in the morning. There are too many things that contribute to a varible reading by evening. It's funny, but I weigh less if I wait about an hour after getting out of bed. You will weigh more in the evening but as you lose weight, the evening weight will go down in proportion to the morning weight. Some people weigh less after their workout but I weigh more. Dievans: How did it go with the family? Ohio: How did the recipe search go? Saturday: So far I've managed to write everything down this weekend. Not writing things down and then just giving up on the weekends has been my downfall in the past. I started on the third glass of wine last night but I poured it out. I did go over my calorie goal of 1800 but stayed within the calories to maintain weight which is something I've given myself permission to do when I am socializing on the weekend (socializing = eating rich food that is controlled by someone other than me) |

Good Morning!
Overall it was a good weekend. Yesterday I didn't count calories or write everything down. This happens to me when I have a lot of people over for dinner. I did eat more Chex Mix than I should have. I am going to try to reconstruct my day on paper just to see how much damage I did. Most of it was salty foods. Monday Goals: Swim Practice Masters 1:15:00 (hopefully burn 600 or more calories) Calorie: 1400 Greatest challenge: No great challenge today that I can foresee. Have a great day! |

Good morning,
I did not do very good this weekend. I really tried, but there was just too much. Between the homemade mac n cheese to crab dip and cheesecake, I tried it all. Boo. I really did have a great time visiting though. I will post more later. Gotta go run! Di |

Good Monday morning! Tonia, sounds like you had a fun and social weekend. Drink a lot of water (after you get in the water) today! Di, I did not do well this weekend either. Yesterday for dinner I had pizza, mozzarella sticks, and potato chips. (I went to a friend's house to watch a game.) But like you, I had a great time visiting. That's the thing, right? So...report for weekend: Met exercise goals, did not meet nutrition goals. Consequence: vacuum under furniture today. Ugh. Goal for Monday: 1200 calories, 1 workout, pushups. Consequence: will think of that later.... Biggest challenge: meeting micronutrient needs after such an indulgent Sunday. Need to eat foods with lots of phytochemicals and fiber today. Have a good one! |

Ohio- Good job staying focused this weekend, wish I could say the same. Tonia- thanks for your encouragement. I wish I would have listened...lol Di- We can get back on track! We didn't fall too far. Ok, well my plan to eat well this weekend didn't pan out. My husband took me out for Mexican yesterday and I ate what I wanted. Good thing though. It was lunch and I brought back some for dinner and I still have leftovers for today. I made 3 meals out of one plate of food. So that is good right. Even if every plate has a gazillion calories. The chips and salsa, I just had to have. I ate too much sugar free vanilla ice cream. But my daughter and husband shared a kit kat blizzard from dairy queen. I had one bite. So it could be worse had I eaten a blizzard. 10 servings of sugar free vanilla still don't add up to one blizzard. I have not been staying on plan, but I have been exercising and plan to keep doing it until my willpower comes back. I am struggling here. This forum is my saving grace right now. Just knowing I need to check back in here and track my food intake is helping me stay somewhat focused. I am going to exercise now and plan to burn about 300 calories, I will try for a 1400 calorie day. Gotta get my cravings under control. when I eat fattening stuff I find it really hard to get back on track. It is just so addictive! |

OMG!! I just tallied us Sunday's consumption, and OMG! If I would have stayed away from the Chex Mix I would have consumed 1600 calories. That stuff is EVIL!! I consumed somewhere between 2260 & 3100 calories because we were playing a game and I put it in bowls on the table in front of me. I estimated I ate 11/2 cup which is somewhere around 1440 calories.
Guess I am climbing back on the wagon. I should have put grapes on the table or air-popped popcorn. The good thing is that I did go back and reconstruct my day and I can see exactly where I messed up. I will learn from this and make adjustments. :-) |

Hello ladiess, been a while since I posted last but it was that time of the month and bloat was major. Isn't it always so irritating to see that scale go up. I was about at 140 but the 8 pounds that i gained from water weight has dropped off plus another two so I'm at 133 now!! yayyy, these last pounds are coming off =]. Suprisingly I haven't had very many cravings and it seems as if I have dropped my terrible binging habit which makes me soooooo happy because I finally have the upper hand on my health. There was a party that I attended tho but I managed to keep the sweet treats on a low and my weight didnt rise at all. My school is starting soon and I am so happy that I am finally losing the weight that I have always wanted to. I have to thank you guys so much for all the support. It really helps when all your friends are just negative. Well this week has started off well for me, I hope it goes the same for all of you. lovess- Alena! |

Great job, Elabar.
Monday: Swam 1 1/2 hours light pace; did not keep track of calories Tuesday: Run 40 min.; will make a better effort at writing everything down Today has been crazy... trying to pack for a trip and get things in order. Not sure what the next few days will bring but I plan to keep my workouts up and eat healthy. I will be on the road so I will be at the mercy of the cooks. I will try to choose wisely and see if I can come home having maintained my weight. I will post if I have internet connection. I will weigh-in Wednesday if there is a scale. Have a healthy, prosperous week. toniahayes |
