NEW QUESTION DU JOUR . . .
What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)
One of the nice things about our move to east Texas is our tap water is very good here! I do okay with my water at work because I keep it at my desk and that's pretty much where I stay most of the day ... my new trick at home is to keep a smaller glass (8 or 10 oz) with ice in the freezer, and every time I pass the kitchen (which is on my way to the garage, the laundry room, the den and the bookshelves) to pop in, fill it with water, drink it down, and put the glass back in the freezer. I may even put a little tally sheet on the front of the fridge to "keep score." My thinking is that I may actually manage to get more water into my body 8 oz at a time than I would trying to lug around a big jug or bottle at home.
We shall see how it works out!
My 75 Days of Summer goals are:
1) Do cardio for 30 minutes at least 4 days a week. I've only been making about 2 days a week for the last while. Time to kick it up!
2) Add 15-20 minutes of strength training at least twice a week.
3) Get back on the meal planning track. I've gotten really lazy lately and been eating a lot of frozen stuff. Still keeping the calories down, but they're sure not as healthy plus it makes my sodium go way up. Gotta get back to cooking fresh! So, let's make that goal - cook dinner at least 4 nights per week.
Some other goals may get added later, but I think if I do these, it'll help tremendously.
Oh boy what a question for me who doesn't really like most veggies... LOL
OK here goes - greener selection salad, onion, celery, baby carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, frozen snap peas, frozen broccoli florets and mixed frozen veggies.
Now for the ones I actaully eat LOL - zucchini, salad, tomato, carrots and snap peas, broccoli BUT not all today LOL The onion and celery are for cooking and/or making chicken salad etc. then I cut them big so I can pick them out - don't like either! Zucchini, snap peas and baby carrots are the only vegetables that I actually really like!
Oh I forgot that I have canned corn and red skin potatoes but I consider them starches not veggies~ LOL do like corn though. Also tried spaghetti squash once and liked it but don't have the faintest idea how to cook it.
So today begins Day 1 of my new resolve.
Why do I do this self-sabotage?
Missed the veggie question so here it goes:
Big bag of vidalia onions - love it when these are in season
Kale
Spinach
Baby Spinahc
Hearts of Romaine
Cucumber
Carrots
Tomato
Various frozen veggies that I keep with me at work, including green beans and a new kind I'm trying called "healthy weight" mix. I will probably have one small box of frozen veggies at some point today, plus I am planning to cook up the spinach and kale with some onions for dinner tonight, and maybe slice up the tomato as well. Also, I will probably have a salad during the day today as well.
As for Water tips, not sure I have any. I guess one thing I do is try to refill my glass every time I get up from my desk to pee. This way, drinking more water becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
This is a great idea! Staring down at your end goal is too daunting.. I have a long way to go, but a summer goal will keep me on track.
I have been losing weight, but not as well as I could if I put more effort into it. And who couldn't do with a reminder of why we are doing this.. to get healthier! So, okay, here are my 75 day goals...
- lose 15 lbs, taking me to 175lbs! (my weight when I left UK)
- walk on our treadmill minimum of twice per week (have been slacking off)
- drink 2 litres water per day (not just tea)
- eat more fruit and veg. Have either or both with each meal.
- careful with snacks and watch my portion sizes!! (both have been getting bigger lately)
- Do not go crazy on my cheat day! One meal, whatever I want - then STOP! (not snacking ALL day).
Okay that should do it, I could go on and on!
Am putting this list in my journal to keep me focused on the goal and will check in weekly with my stats. Good luck everyone.
Good morning... not so great for me... the stupid health center strikes again! They had no idea what was wrong with me back in February (bronchitis) and they have no idea what's wrong with me now (and I don't know either). So as usual, they said to drink fluids, cough syrup, and take ibuprophen to bring down the swelling of my lymphs/tonsils.
So...
Tip 1: Get sick. You'll drink more water.
Tip 2: Keep the water bottle next to you when you're wasting time and/or Calorie Counting.
Tip 3: Drink a glass of water for every item or two items on your plate. (Or every serving). If you eat 4 servings of broccoli *cough cough Molly cough cough*, you should have two or four glasses of water. This is realy hard, so I amended it for myself for a glass for every plate you eat (for one who eats two or three plates of only one or two items...).
By August 1, I would like to get down to the 150's. Not a big issue, considering I'm 8.5 lb away from it already! I'm going to work hard to get there.

What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)
The trick I use to drink more water is using silly straws. I don't know why, but if I just pour a glass of water, I'll sip on it for hours. If I use a silly straw, I drink the whole glass in 20 minutes. Go figure.
For me, I have to start the day drinking water. If I start off w/ coffee or pop, it is downhill from there. Yet, if I begin my day w/ water, I find I drink my needed amount, no problem. I also drink a glass of water(typically 8oz) before I eat a meal or snack, everytime. A lot of the time, I learn I was thirsty, not hungry, which really helps w/ calories! lol
As for the water-
I have to Nalgene bottles I keep filled with water. One is with me at all times, and the other is in the fridge.
Yeah, I am probably going to die of cancer, but at least I am drinking my water!

Confession. Fell off the wagon last night. Thud!
So today begins Day 1 of my new resolve.
Why do I do this self-sabotage?
Glad you are climbing back on the wagon. We all do this, you know, who knows why? The key is to NEVER NEVER NEVER give up.
We can do this, one meal at a time, one day at a time, one pound at a time!

Things I discovered in the past 24 hours .....
If you drink more water, you pee more. And you use more toilet paper. By the end of the summer, I wonder if I will go through more TP than normal? I wonder if it's weird that I even think of these things?
If you leave a spare roll of TP on the bathroom counter, one or more playful kitties will unravel and shred it for you.
Picking little pieces of shredded toilet paper out of navy blue bathroom rugs probably doesn't burn a significant amount of calories, and isn't listed on the CC Activity Log.
If you get up early in the morning to go biking (pre-shower, and with bed hair) and decide scoot really fast into the grocery store for some salsa, the worse you look (sweaty, disheveled, no shower, bed hair) is directly proportionate to the number of people you will run into that you know.
It's still awfully hot even at 8am, when you're biking in the sunshine ... 84 degrees, to be specific.
If you get up early and bike 8 miles (like I did this morning), you get to eat more food .... yay.

jcr, Hon, don't think of it as falling off the wagon, think of it as merely taking a brief pit stop on the long road to health. And we all need pit stops!
Writing down goals always helps so much. I'm so glad this is an open thread! : D And it's coming at the perfect time...summer can be hard! So, my goals are:
1. I only have 7 lbs left to go, so by the end of the 75 days I hope to be down at least 3.5 lbs!
2. Continue to run 30-40 minutes 5-6/7 days of the week, plus pilates and or/ weight training
3. Drink water! So important down here in SC...it gets hot.
4. Keep within my daily calorie goals, start keeping weekly totals
5. Be good about what foods I eat, and resist temptation! Moderation, moderation, it's the key to everything. ; ) Plus I work with little kids all day (Snack time can be bad, we encourage "healthy" snacking, but the parents still provide the snacks, so, if they listen, we're good, if not, it sucks) and go to way too many parties with
icky, grossunhealthy food that I just would like to avoid. Hopefully I'll try out some good granola bar/snack recipies this summer and just bring them along. I love cooking, so my friends will never know I'm doing it so I don't have to eat their food, lol. I'm so bad.
Good luck everyone!
PS: Any snack recipies? : D
I just wanted to share with you guys today is my weigh in day, and I am now officially down 17 pounds! I am so excited!
instead of drinking water from the plastic orzarka bottles it comes in, i just bought my own water jug that is 60 oz that i carry around with me everywhere! it encourages me to drink more water and i usually set personal goals for myself, like finishing 3 of them a day...it really does help
WOOOHOOO! I am in.... ONGOING MOTIVATION! What a PLUS! LOVVVVVVVVVVVVE iTTTTT!
Now let's get down to business with my 75 day plan..
1. Stay with the counting calories/fats/carbs/and protein.
2. I have 19 more pounds to lose, and I pray I lose it by August 1st. My plan God's will right.
3. Stay strong with Jella's Smart plan.. That was a God send :)
4. Work Hard at my 30/30/30 program. Cardio/Yoga/Weights
This will change up in 4 more weeks, but still 30/30/30 rule is in play.
5. I'm going to start playing Kick Ball with my children. No more Mom yelling play fair. I am going to be out there with them like always.
6. Still work the Garden with my dad and children.
7. Start running 3 days a week with my son. He loves the track and to run.
:) That's my coach. My kids has been my coaches and motivation for so long.
8. I can't forget the 80oz of water I have a day.
9. To lose enough weight to fit into the birthday dress I've ordered.
10. To keep you all close. In my prayer's and thoughts.
Thanks for this COUNTDOWN CLUB Molly:)
I really needed this post. Thanks a lot. I wish you all luck.
Have fun in the sun/water/shade/whatever you choose this summer. I know I will.
