I am 40 years old, 5"5 and 148 . My goal is 137 and i should be 137 by July. Would like to find somebody to do this together, to support and to help to reach goals.
have a great day , everybody
Harleygirl, I'm also a lover of being on a harley. We are just starting to get riding weather here, and boy am I worried. Like to ride every Sat and Sun, but we always stop for eats and drinks. My norm would be fried calamari followed by fried clams of shrimp ( a couple of milk drinks). Bike days will be the hardest for me without a doubt, I will have to get used to salad and broiled fish.
Last night was bad enough with the outback, but now is a really big challenge. I am going to a first communion and then straight to a Redsox game. My fav at the games are a huge Italian sausage on a nice fresh roll, but won't be having that any more. Don't think I have ever seen them sell anything healthy to eat at a game, so I will eat healthy at the communion and try to forget about food after that.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.
A Redsox game! How FUN! Maybe popcorn and a light beer instead of the sausage? And eat healthy BEFORE you go?
I just wanted to clarify re: The Cheater's Diet. Early in the post, Kurtcourtney (also known as Liz) said she'd had real success using The Cheater's Diet which is from a book, I guess. I just figured that Veganmama, you wouldn't go on a diet from a book because of your vegan-ness :-) Anyway, she'd lost like 5 pounds or something on it, in 3 weeks.
Toddlers asleep so I'm going for a brisk walk. I've got my water, Bruce Springsteen on my ipod. I'll think of you guys and walk even faster.
See ya,
Alison
Hey! How did everyone do over the weekend? I did pretty well - exercised both days and drank my water. I'm actually looking forward to weighing in on Friday....hope I can keep it up!
Alison
Hi all,
I did well - even refused dessert when the waitress brought me a spoon "for sharing"...
Managed my 7am Spin Class this morning and I think the thought of the Friday weigh-in made me make good food choices over the weekend!
BH
Good morning everybody!
It's great you did so well during the weekend. I was good too, i was in the gym on Saturday sweating on the treadmill. On Sunday we went out to Mexican restaurant Garibaldi Plaza, it's authentic Mexican food. I managed to eat just one chicken burrito, which was 320 calories, although there were 3 of the on the plate :-) It was temptation... But i was in my calories limit at the end of they day, even 40 calories short. Well, it's another week and Friday will be here soon with our weigh in. Can't wait ...
Leila
Hey , where is everybody? I am doing good, went to they gym yesterday to Body Step class and then spend on treadmill for half an hour walking uphill. I manage to stay in my calorie range, sometimes 50 - 60 calories less. how are you guys doing?
Hi 40+ people! I'm music007 (female) and I'm here too. I know how to lose weight and workout but it's the "I look ok for my age! I run 7 miles in a hour! bike @ 18 m.p.h and fore the most part I eat healthy!" Haven't had trans-fat or high fructose corn syrup in years - don't eat processed foods and definitely no fast foods. So what's my problem? Sweets and cocktails! Love them both and not to any crazy extreme either. Just enought to keep me at 150! Looking for some light hearted support to help me balance thingsbetter than I have been.
Looking forward to chats!
Hi Music007,
It's nice to meet you, welcome to our group. Sounds like you are moving all the time and that's great. Do you want to loose weight or just maintain? I want to loose 10 pounds for now and after i will accomplish this, want to loose more. I am 40 years old and 148 pounds, at least was on May 8 when i started here. I weight myself every other Friday, so next Friday is my first weight in after i started. I go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week and use any chance to walk.
hope to chat to you soon
Nice to meet you turquoise67 -- no I need to lose 10lbs and then if I can hold that, I'd like to go down another 5-7 and hold it there. I do try to move as much as I can because it's good for you. Your muscles are like rubber bands - have you ever tried pulling a brand new one from the box and stretching it out all the way? It breaks. Or if it's old and never used and you go to stretch it - it breaks. That's your muscle - use it or loose it. That's the basis of my thinking so I like exercising for the benefits. But I also enjoy food! In fact tomorrow night - I'm invited to a "Beer Pairing" first of it's kind (usually you have wine pairings). It's a 5 course gourmet meal at an upscale restaurant that pairs different brews with the food. Forget calories tomorrow!
Keep up the work. Thanks for the message.
Hi Music - welcome to our group! I also love sweets and cocktails (I'm a beer and wine girl myself), but with this group I've been able to cut way back. I'm lucky that my husband doesn't drink, so when I cut back or don't bring it in the house, no one complains. When you count the calories, it's unbelievable how fast the drinks and little candies add up.
Leila - I'm so proud of you for only having one burrito. I don't know if I could be that strong :-)
I couldn't find the turbo jam tape at Wal-Mart, but I bought a butt, hips and thighs crunch tape instead with cardio. For those days I just can't get to the gym. Which seems like a lot lately! So I'll do that today and let ya know how it goes!
Alison
Hi Alison - thanks for the welcome. My significant other enjoys cocktails as much as me but we'll support each other to an extent. I still have to impose a lot of will power.
It's Memorial Day weekend coming up and with all the support here I'm hoping I'll make good choices knowing that you're routing for me! I'll do the same for all of you.
I'll check in tomorrow.
Hi Alison,
I was looking for turbo jam in Wal-Mart but didn't find it too. Maybe i should look in Internet. Thank you for your support :-) i am sure that you have such little victories too. I like wine too, especially red, but for now decided to wait with it. I even don't know how many calories has a glass of wine, should look here. I notices that too, that it ends up so quickly when you watch your calories. Good luck with your exercises !!! See you later
Hey Music,
I enjoy food too and i like cooking too. So, now i am just learning to eat small portions . I had really bad experience with diet , South Beach, and now it's so different when you can eat almost everything, just watch your calories. But i aslo don't eat fast food and don't eat white bread for a long time.
Well, have fun tomorrow with beer paring !!!
have a nice day
Leila
Hi Folks,
It's been a couple of days. Sounds like everyone is doing good. Keep up the good work. I've been down and out with a nasty earache. I forgot how much pain can be generated by some wax built up down inside your ear canal. Constant pain. I even got to the point where I was thinking to myself. . . . I would rather be giving birth, at least that pain comes and goes. . lol. I am almost back to normal today. Went for a ride on Sunday, I'm sure that didn't help my ear any. Wasn't hurting at that time.
I like my beer too. Because most bars don't carry my vodka, diet cranberry and fresca, I end up with Michelob Ultra, less calories and carbs. We did go out to lunch on Sunday, usually do when we are on the motorcyle, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, but I did pass on the fries. Because of this group, I actually thought twice, which I usually don't do on a Sunday. This could be a really good thing.
I don't own a scale, but because I went to the doctors for my ear, I got weighed in. Not bad, it was actually better than I thought. I have lost 5 lbs since my last weigh in, which was about 2 months after I quit smoking.
Keep up the good work.
Hey Harley - it's good to be part of a group with things in common and I'm finding many herein this group - we have social lives. It seems that when you talk with 20 & 30-somethings you realize how different we were raised. They're shocked to find out that the drinking age was 18 - senior in high school or that some of our parents had nightly cocktail hours. It's nice to struggle this 20lb battle with those that understand.
One side thought and I don't want to insult by any means and GREAT for no fries - that's a tough one. Next step - just a cheeseburger- no bacon. Just a thought.
I'm going to my beer pairing dinner tonight and going to request only shot-glass samples of beer instead of the full glass. That should cut some calories and atleast keep me at par with my cal. burn level. But am I going to pass on a gourmet desert? I should but we'll see......?
Hey, you are absolutely right, that will be this Sunday. Might skip the cheese too. I have a motorcyle run this weekend and that doesn't allow too much leeway as far as eating healthy goes. We actually camp out at a friends for the whole weekend. I'm gonna take my vodka and some of that diet orange dry drink. No calories in the mixer, so that will help. I'm just gonna go and enjoy and watch where I can. Let's face it, when it really comes down to it, it is all about choices.
How did you do with the beer pairing dinner? Just remember, even if you just made one choice that was healthy, that is a step in the right direction. Also, keep in mind, even if you didn't do that great, you need to get right back to it today. Don't beat yourself up, just make some better choices today.
Hey Ladies, what does everyone have planned for the Holiday weekend? Usually these weekends send a chill up my spine when it comes to eating healthy, but I really do think I can do this.
ENJOY!!!!!
beer pairing was fabulous! I drink beer but only watered-down types because I really don't like the flavor too much but what I experienced opened my eyes. As far as alcohol went - I had a total of 3 beers (one being a light) and a glass of pinot noir over the course of 5 hours so I did well. Foodwise -- I did my best. We had beer battered jumbo shrimp (3), wild game sausage links - only tasted those, lump crabmeat on a cornmeal-type pancake (didn't eat the pancake), then North Carolina style smoked barbeque pulled pork with cole slaw on a toasted bun - didn't eat the bun and didn't finish it. Leaving food on my plate is something I never do but because of this group, I was aware of what was going in my mouth.
And you're right....back on track today...lighter eating with a heavy workout for the next few days.
This weekend is a bit troublesome. I live near a chain of lakes and all my friends have "camps" so you just boat up to them, say hi and move on but by the end of the day the picking can really add up. I'll try and be good though because weighing 140 is more important than cheese & crackers with a drink! I've made a stipuplation with my significant other that before we go boating all day, we MUST workout at least an hour. So far so good.
Anybody else have thoughts about tackling the weekend? Will anybody be logged in during the holiday?
Hey everybody,
Sounds like you did really good job on your beer pairing, Music, you did really good choices considering the situation. I have a dinner with my extended family on Monday, 26 of May. I am sure that there will be couple desserts and 3 course dinner, so i will need to watch out and make all right choices to be in my calorie range. But we are planning to go to Annapolis with friends and we will sure walk a lot there. I will just try to get more walking and of course will go to the gym on this week-end. It's open on Monday , so i could do my workout before the dinner. Actually we all make choices every day, thinking what is better and often say "no" to something that we really like. That takes a lot to do that. I know that for sure.
I have found new thing on the website that helps when you can't use computer and find out how much calories in this or that dish or food. You can have it on your cellphone, when you want to know how many calories is for example burrito, you sent e-mail to CC and they reply you right back. Very convenient. U used it when we went for dinner to mexican restaurant.
have a wonderful week-end everybody
Leila
Hi everyone - I'm sitting at my car dealer right now. There is a whole box of free donuts behind me. And I'm really hungry. I figured if I wrote to you guys I'd get through it, and now I know I will. They'd better hurry up with my car though :-)
I'm going to a birthday party on Saturday and a Pizza party on Sunday. I'm hoping for something healthy at the party because the Mom is really healthy and fit (46 and maybe a size 4 on a bad day. But we love her!). For the pizza party I offered to bring fruit and a salad. That way I know I'll have something I can eat. And I'll try to keep it to one small slice of pizza. I'm pretty motivated now, 'cause of this group. I'm telling all my friends about. And I'm finding that it really feels better physically after making the good choices. I'm not tipsy or bloated or feeling like I have to start fresh on my diet each morning. I'm "in the zone" I guess. I haven't been that way since the baby 2 years ago, so I thank you all. And yes, I'll be logging on to write at least once this weekend. And of course, tomorrow is a weigh in for Leila and me. Was anyone else going to do that? God, those donuts look good!
Alison
I weigh in every Friday morning at my gym class but I know what it's going to say tomorrow morning...150 (I'd be lucky if it said 147) so there's my starting point. Should only go down from here!
Hi everybody,
That is really impressive Alison :-) whole box of donuts and you didn't eat any, you should be proud of yourself. My husband loves donuts and usually gets a dozen of different Krispy Cream, so i get used to look how he is eating them. He can eat whatever he wants and doesn't gain any weight, lucky!!! There is a long week-end and i am sure i will have moments when i will need to close my eyes and say "no" to something i like to eat. I remember about tomorrow, Alison. I will do it first thing in the morning. And i am going to log in this week-end once or twice.
Have fun at your party
Leila
