Hey Everyone. To be honest I am almost ashamed to be posting here. As a few of you girls know i was on South Beach a few months back. I did well but let myself fall on phase two. I said i was coming back and did well for about 2 weeks...Then the holidays hit and there went my diet. I gained 10 pounds over the holidays and i feel gross. To be honest i don't even think i could eat something unhealthy right now because i am so disgusted with myself. So today is the first day of a a new life, not just a new diet. I am excited to cut the bad foods out and start cooking healthy and living a more healthy life! My boyfriends brother is coming to NY on January 19th and after dating 2 and a half years this will be the first time i meet his brother, sister and law and their kids. I would love to lose a few pounds by then but we will see what happens.
So here are my stats...and here i go. NAME.............. Jen LOCATION....... NYC AGE................. 23 START/ CURRENT..............160.4 GOAL...............130 Good luck and happy new year! |

Nice to see you back Jen - you know the SB thread has an open permanent membership :D! That healthy attitude is going to do you wonders! With almost 3 weeks before his family arrives, you've got time to work on that holiday weight. Crystal - welcome! Glad to hear SB is working for you. When I started I was ready to start any diet but my doctor recommended SB and now that Ive been at CC, Im more health concious so it fits in perfectly. Lori- appreciate all the info, very interesting! Im starting a walking plan with a friend tomorrow. Thinking that will help make it more enjoyable. Im scheduled to diet through about the same time - early 2009 too. Thinking about a trimmer me waiting there for me. Hoping its just as easy staying on the plan there in Panama. Goofy dentist appt. Kiki went at 9 but they start me at 10. Watching others come in and go ahead of me? By 10:30 I asked what was the delay and the receptionist says Oh, I forgot to turn in your file. I had forgotten something too - to make my "Dont mess with me, Ive just quit smoking" sign so when she said it'd be another 15 minutes I cancelled and resched for Friday. Looking back, I thought I got to warn people - nicotine deprieved, a bit oversensitive LOL. Kiki says wouldnt it have been easier to wait? True but ... Im detoxing! Working on a phone message recording: Sorry, I cant take your call because I cant risk alienating friends and family due to my moodiness. If I ever come out of it, I'll return your call. :D Pity party at my house, youre all invited. |

wow you are quiting smoking! that is huge! but I am sure you can do it with the amazing sucess you have had so far. Are you using anything to quit? My boyfriend used the patch and although he was still a big grump it helped it ALOT!
Good luck to you! |

| Patch - Oh yeah, the fact that people can go cold turkey boggles my mind. With the patch, I luckily havent had any hunger effect I couldnt handle. When I recently ran out of cigs though, wanted to eat the entire kitchen pantry. | ||

Hi everyone! I'm new to doing the South Beach diet. I wanted to try it because it looked like it was good for curbing cravings. Hopefully that's true. So far I've been doing it for about half a day out of the 14 days of Phase 1. I read in the book that exercise is encouraged... does anyone know how doing South Beach would impact someone who runs a lot? I put in 25-30 miles of running per week and don't want to mess that up.
Name: Ingrid Location: Southern California Age:28 Ht:5'5-3/4" Start wt:Somewhere in the 130-133 lb range... my husband is currently hiding the scale. :-) Goal wt: Ideally, 120, but just getting to 125 would be a nice start. |

Happy New Year to everyone (again I think)...its nice to see that the NY has brought out everyone from the woodworks! Let me just say that I didn't realize how out of shape I was until I went on the elliptical today. Makes walking a breeze, but then I never really cut a sweat walking...at least every pore I have knows I am trying to lose weight now....not pretty, but it must be somewhat effective..... Jane I will be weighing in come hell or highwater next week! Hope everyone is doing well!!! |

Hi I am 38 and headed for 40, so I am starting to pay more attention to my health. Should have done that long ago. Anyways, I started to put on the pounds as my metabolism was slowing down. I used to be able to eat anything and get away with it. No exercise, at least not regularly, and no worries. Two of my close friends just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was 185lbs since I was 25 and over the last 6 months climbed to 220!! It was time for me to wake up and get a grip on my health... or lack of it. I heard about the "South Beach Diet" and decided it was the ticket for me. I lost 10 lbs week 1, 5 the next, and now 185 lbs after just over 2 months. My goal is to hit 165 again. The weight loss has really slowed down, but I feel great and am sleeping much better. I always feel like I have lots of energy and never feel bloated anymore. I eat lots of shellfish, seafood in general, almonds, salads, chicken, turkey, and still stay away from white potatoes, carrots, bananas, pasta, and any bread that is not light rye or whole grain.Wish me luck! |

Hi everybody! I've been (supposedly) counting calories since May of this 2007. I started SBD for the first time today. I was so excited about the weight loss benefits I'd heard about that I borrowed the book from the library and read the whole thing in just 3 days. Now I'm very happy about the total health benefits and new way of life this program seems to offer. Reading about your experiences has solidified my confidence that I will kick my bad carb addiction and be able to start and continue new healthy eating habits. I'm following the plan very strictly, and felt great all day about staying on track- but I must admit, I do have a little bit of a headache right now. I probably should have taken a multi-vitamin this morning. Anyway, here are my stats: Name: Tiffany CW: 189

sun123, yes, being in Panama has advantages and disadvantages. There is not frozen meals or foods manufactured and marketed toward a specific diet. So I think I will have to look up a lot of recipes to have variety and not get bored. But also there is not a fast food joint on every corner (in the capitol, yes, but where we live, just McDonalds....they're everywhere!) so it is not as handy to just go through the drive through. I have already noticed that calorie-count has a good recipe thread for SB. glad to see there are other newbies on here starting out 2008 the healthy way! |

Hi tiffany if your just starting phase one I suggest taking a fiber suppliment ...also in regards to the headache did you stop drinking caffine? The book said for me to cut out caffine but I just couldnt seem to totally kick the habit. Im down to 2 cups of coffee a day and I used to be a soda hog so I was getting more caffine than I realized. I did cut out soda except for rare occasions... then only diet.
beene... wow only 20 more to go ..YOu can do it!!!! I feel like Ive been on phase two forever. doesnt help that I have had temporary set backs(like cheating LOL) one pound a week seems to be the norm for phase two.... seems pointless then I just come here for support. Lori Im a little envious of that no fast food temptation... It seems like wherever I turn.... fried something or other is hitting me in the face LOL. If you need a recipe for something let me know. well that goes for everybody too |

If youre just starting SB - Since 2week phase1 is low carb, these links might be helpful: LINK 1st week LINK Mistakes I know that carb addiction Tiffany, Im very carb sensitive so I felt it the first day or two which then switched to the decrease in hunger. Varies by person, I know. I think you'll really appreciate the effect of SB on the addiction. I used to live for them. Beene, thats a great Phase 1 weightloss! True the losses cant keep up at that pace but with hunger control, the health benefits and feeling better its nice to still see the weight drop too. Funny I do wraps instead of bread (La Tortilla Factory low carb - youd never know it and 50cal) but I hadnt considered lite Rye (rye is my fav bread). Will have to check into that! Ingrid, regarding the running - you really want to up your water phase 1 with exercise. In general, starting a diet causes water loss but also SB phase1's lack of carbs requires more fluids (carbs are processed easily requiring less water then protien). Even in phase1, SB recommends having a complex carb prior to exercise. Granted the stricter you follow SB phase 1, the better your success but not if you find yourself fatigued after exercising it without it. |

Thanks again. I am almost certain the week 1 weight loss was mostly water. I always felt bloated, like had just drank far to much of something, after only having 1 cup of coffee in the morning. After 3 days on SBD... those feelings were long gone. My weight loss has stalled over the holidays, even up 1 pound. I did break a few rules, but I am not going to sweat it as overall I feel great. 165 might be too light for me, but the BMI tool seems to think that it where I should be at 6'. Last time I was there I was 16 years old. I will see how I feel once I hit 175 and reassess the sitch. Happy New Year all! |
