What you might do is ask them to mail you the paperwork to go get your blood drawn ... at least a week or two before your appt ... so that the doc will have the blood test results to discuss with you AT your appt in Feb. It's a nice way to check on things like cholesterol, triglycerides, thyroid, and blood glucose (A1c) levels. This is what I try to do ... otherwise I go to the appt and THEN they send me for blood tests (and I never really got to discuss the results with the doc.!) =^..^= MOLLY |

Question for the women ... What size clothing did you start at (and what's your current size?) How many pounds lost = a loss of a clothing size for you? Did your shoe size change? (Men who wear women's clothing are also welcome to respond ... LOL!) =^..^= MOLLY |

I am short.. started out at a size 32 and am now a 28. In some brands I am a 26, but I have some old size 28 jeans that are still too tight. So losing 68 lbs was only 3 sizes, I guess an average of 23lbs per size, but maybe more weight to drop the first size and less for the last. Waist has gone from 52 to 47 I think that inches/clothes sizes need more weight loss to go down at first and then you need to lose fewer pounds to lose inches/sizes when you are smaller... because the circumference (hip/waist size) is linear and size (volume) is cubic. At least that's my theory.

Original Post by jen32966: I seem to regularly gain/retain 2-5 pounds of water starting about 5 days before my TOM ... and continuing until it ends. I've seen this happen in September, October and November ... a definite pattern. An annoying pattern. Grrrrrr. (But it does drop off again, I promise!) =^..^= MOLLY |

At 340 I was wearing 26/28 in pants- 22/24 in tops. At 240 I'm wearing 20/22 in pants- 16/18 in tops. It took FOREVER before I dropped a size! The first size down required a loss of like 50 pounds I wear bigger sizes than some people I've seen of my height and weight (especially in pants). That's b/c I'm pear shaped (Big time) I have gigantic hips! Plus, I've got a very large frame. I'm just a BIG girl. Btw, I'm 5'9.5

Original Post by danielle_20077: Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I just wanted to get a feel for where we all were, size-wise, and what sort of size changes I can anticipate. I am 5'8.5" and pear-shaped, too. I am also large framed. When I started this weight loss adventure, I was wearing mostly 5x (34/36W) clothes from Catherine's. Then I was able to get down into 4x clothes (30/32W), and now it seems I can wear SOME 3x clothes (26/28). But Department store sized 3x clothes (even tops) still seem too small, so I think I am probably between sizes right now. I have two pair of elastic-waist stretchy jeans/leggings in my closet ... one pair in size 30, which are comfy and semi-loose, and 26s, which I can get into if I lay down, but are too tight around my "lower tummy" (my biggest problem area) still. I am figuring 15 pounds and I can probably wear them without injuring myself... LOL. (I have no idea why I don't have the size in between, but the two pair I have are different brands, anyway.) And I had to downsize my undies, too, and am now opting for the spandex-y, stretchy kind. But I am not buying too many clothes right now, since I seem to be in transition, size wise. When I saw three pairs of shorts on clearance last week at Catherine's for just $6 each, I scooped up a black pair, a navy pair, and a khaki pair ... in size 2x. I just decided to be optimistic that I could wear them once it gets really warm/hot. And, in shoes, I went from wearing a 12wide to a 12 regular. (But it's still really hard to find women's size 12 shoes!) Frankly, I've been trying to tell if I look like I've lost more weight when I keep schlepping around in my too-big clothes, or when I wear properly-sized, better-fitting clothes. =^..^= MOLLY |

| I'm 5'6" and wear size 3x in scrubs which is what I have to wear at work.... I have some brand new 2x which I'm waiting to wear. I could fit into a 2x top but it would keep riding up on me. But I've noticed after just 13 pounds of weight loss that they do feel looser around the legs. They are elastic waist. I do have a pair of jeans that I wear on the weekends that I believe are a size 24 but they are the stretchy kind I think made by Just My Size. Very comfortable but they get loose as the day goes on and I have to pull them up a lot. My problem mostly are my thighs and butt- which is where I carry most of my weight. In the summer I was shopping in Lane Bryant for a new pair of shorts- bermudas- jeans- and I think I ended up buying a size 26. That was my first pair of 26's- Usually I was in 24's.... I have a lot of size 20's in my closet from previously when I lost weight. If I remember right- when I was 200 pounds I was wearing a size 18 or 16.... Which is what I'm shooting for again- although a size 14 would probably be better. And last time looking in my journals keeping track of sizes- it seemed that after every 15 or 20 pound loss is when I would go down a size... (If only I had had the mentality in 2000 to try to maintain then I wouldn't be where I am now... but oh well- at least I'm finally doing something now and this time permanently!!! | ||

johnlynch47 I had my gallbladder out in Feb. I would highly recommend, if you are having gall bladder trouble and it's bothering you as much as it did me (vomitting after meals, lying in bed thinking I was going to die), I definitely suggest getting it removed. Especially if it can be done via laparoscopy. I was up and about in a week! |

| Yay... I wasn't going to weigh myself today because it's the first day of TOM but I was pleasantly surprised as those pesky 2 pounds that were here yesterday are gone today.... and I even weighed myself at a different time of the day than normal because I came to work later than normal...perhaps tomorrow I will break down into the 200's.... | ||

What size clothing did you start at (and what's your current size?)
I was wearing 28's in jeans..sorta. I'd have to shop for days to find a pair of 28's that would actually go on and not cut off circulation, but that's the biggest size the stores carried around here. I think in the last year or so before I started my weight loss I'd been able to find 2 pair of jeans with stretch in them that actually fit. I really should have been wearing 30's. I'm now wearing 16's or 18's. How many pounds lost = a loss of a clothing size for you? The first size drop took about 40lbs. Every size since then has been about 20lbs. Did your shoe size change? Yes, it did. When I started I wore a 10, preferably wide width. Now I wear 9's. |
