Hello all....

This website changed my life. ( : Sounds overly dramatic, but it is true. I hope to look back a year or so from now and think, "I am forever grateful......"  Anywho, I think my favorite part of cc, aside from all the great educational information, is the overwhelming support and friendship I've found here. I guess most of my life I've only trusted and truly befriended a handful of unique women---I hold my friends in the highest regard and do not take camraderie lightly. The women I have met here are seriously my spiritual twins! I always felt very alone in my weight loss journey----no more!

That said, I think my cc girls, and you know who you are, are the best! ( :   My buddies, my pals, my soul sisters =P Chat away to motivate yourself and others! ( ;

Morning all...

absolutely NO wogging for me.  I don't DO outside unless I"m laying by the pool wiht a glass of white wine by my side... I"ll settle for water... but definitely NO exerting myself... only INSIDE where the air conditioning is blowing!

A friend of mine asked me to come join "bikini boot camp" with he rthis summer... I figured, what the heck!  I don't intend to EVER wear a bikini... but I"ve been working out for three years...might as well mix it up.  THe friend TOLD me it was intense...  3 days a week for 4 week... No PROBLEM... I work out 7 days a week.. I"m there...

So, I was NEVEr and I mean NEVER athletic growing up... always the last picked on teams in gym class...  The ONLY class I ever dropped in college was volleyball...  So, I show up at this high school football field... Our WARM up is to run to the bleachers... run up the first set of stairs... down the second... up the third... down the fourth... and so on... THen, you run to the other side around the track and do the same thing over there.  The WHOLE time drill type instructors are yelling "I don't want to see any more walking out of you!   Get those knees up!"  We finish that and the next 60 minutes are HELL... running drills... bear crawls..  up downs... and while you're waiting for your "turn" in the realy you are doing planks, t-stands, push-ups "GET THOSE KNEES OFF THE GROUND!   WE DON'T DO GIRL PUSH UPS AT BOOT CAMP!"

I literally went home CRYING after my first day and NEVER returned...  (seventy dollars out the window)... but the thing is, excercise should be good, right?

ALl the to get to your question under... about my heart rate monitor... I was soooo confused... because I was working as HARD as I POSSIBLY could at boot camp... but my heart rate just wouldn't go up over 95...  and generally... when I'm working out HARD CORE it's at 160... but it just wouldn't budge.

I realized when I looked at it later when I got home, I had the display set to PERCENTAGE... not heart rate!   So... I was working out closer to 190 or so... and LITERALLY if you get to 100% heart rate... that's where you have a heart attack!   #lol# so screw bootcamp!

My heart rate monitor is a Polar and I LOVE it.. .they're pretty expensive... liike $90 I think?  I got mine three years ago... have never needed a new battery or anything like that.  It keeps track of my weekly workouts... lets me know how many times I worked out a week, how many minutes I was in my zone... How long I was at the low, middle, and high end... tells me how many calories I burned... and it works in the water, soo... (I wore it in the ocean once, and it doesn't seem to like salt water, but it worked fine after I dried it off.)

But ANY new workout "toy" motivates me... new socks, new shoes, new DVD... I like variety

which, olivia, leads me to my FAVORITE songs to come on when I;m working out.

Kelly Clarkson..."Since You've Been Gone"

Bonnie Tyler" HOlding out for a hero"

Marilyn Manson "Beautiful People"

Justin Timberlake "Sexy Back"

Gwen Stefani "Hollabackgirl"

Journey "Don't Stop Believin"

Kid Rock "Bawitdaba"

Ram Jam "Black Betty"

White Zombie "More Human Than Human"

Chumbawumba "Tubthumpin"

Elvis "A Little Less Conversation"

The Killers "Somebody Told Me"

Stone Temple Pilots "Sex Type Thing"

I have quite a few others on there... but those make me start RUNNING on the elliptical no matter how many times I hear them!  The elliptical is being fixed at my mom's house this  morning, so since I"m teacher lady and have two more weeks off... I"m also designated "wait for the repair guy" lady...  so I'm going to wait for him this morning and then use the equipment!

I bought a new medicine ball, so I'm so excited to use it for AB work!

WHEW I'm long winded!  Guess that fits in on this thread!
I'm glad to see you, utr, I worried when we made the move, we'd lose cool people....still waiting on a few. ( :

I think I am taking the day off too---plan to house clean, do the mountain o' dishes, laundry, and pack the TON of boxes I got for moving form the liquor store last night--score!

Well, that settles it. We all like the music we like for the same reasons---personal meaning, awesome/keep you moving beats, or words we already know..... ( :  I am mostly old rock, newer rock/alternative and so old classics my mom used to listen to in the car like (I;m going to admit this) America, Chicago, Air Supply, and Bread. It doesn;t really matter what it is---if I know the words, I like (case in point--Living La Vida Loca and Bille Jean were two I rocked out to yesterday out loud---LOL) Just in rereading tamara's post--I burst into song, singing "I'm holding out for a hero" Footloose style! I love that one!!!---note to self download soundtrack to mp3 player...You have an eclecltic mix, tam--but I have to say I would move a little faster to most of those too. ( :   And I too (who isn;t?) am really motivated when I get a new workout toy---yay mp3 player! Let us know how the medicine ball thing goes....I;ll have space in the new house for a devoted fitness room!

PS: note to self: SCREW boot camp. It sounds scary and terrible. And I figure if my little brother just went through it, I don't need to. GOSH!
*hogging the thread*

By the way... I had been bouncing back and forth up and down between 236.6 and 235 since July 20... well, I lost yesterday (down to 235.2) so the pattern WOULD have been to go back up today... I did not... I went down a smidge to 234.6... so it is my sincere hope that the bouncing is BROKEN...

Only thing I've done different SO FAR this week is green tea and no more diet sodall lHOWEVER... if I don't see more than a pound lost this week... as of Saturday... I AM going to up my calories.

I know I'm probably not eating enough for the amount I'm working out.  According to THIS site I should be eating 2050 calories a day (that's total... I don't believe in net calories or anything like that.).  Yesterday, I ate 1520 and exercised off 1000.

Anyway you look at it... that's not REALLY enough... I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept that I could add calories and lose... Anyway, like I said.. if I don't lose more than a pound this week, I"ll try that "experiment" come this Saturday!
GUESS WHAT?!  This morning I dressed in the dark because D was still sleeping, lazy bum, and I just went to the bathroom and realized my belt was on the next lower hole!!  It must have just slipped to the next hole this morning and I didn't even notice!  Woo-hoo!!

Tam- congrats on the lower weight!  Tomorrow is my first weigh in for the August challenge and I'm really nervous because I haven't been on the scale in a week, a new record for me!  I'm dying to know but will be so sad if it didn't move.  I'm also at a little plateau of 189.
*olivia* You HAD to go there with Air Supply.. didn't you?

"The beating of my heart is a drum and it's lost, and it's looking for a rhythm like you...."  Maybe I need to add a few more songs for cool down!   *lol*

Totally agree with abbs and Kelly Clarkson... never was a fan, really... but there's nothing like screaming "SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE!!! I CAN BREATHE FOR THE FIRST TIME>>>I'M SO MOVIN' ON>>> YEA YEA!!!" at the top of your lungs with sweat pouring down your face!   (and I don't even have an ex I'm made at!!!) *lol*

Oooh Abbs... have you tried Alanis Morisette?  That's some angry girl power type rock... Old school Pat Benetar??? "Love is a Battlfield"

Okay.. that's it... putting on the workout clothes and downloading music NOW... *lol*
Duncannon PA is near Harrisburg, about 20 minutes...

You guys weren't kidding about talking alot haha!  I have lots of reading to do...haha!

I found "wogging" amusing it just sounds weird, but it was on this website that I get little fitness info from web something.... I deleted it already....It's just a funny word
hey girls! so much to say...why do I always miss so much!

Welcome Tamara and Jess.

Mama Jo!  I'm so sorry you had a bad day yesterday but double double glad you're feeling better!  Don't get down on yourself sweets, I don't take before pics just for that reason, the current ones with just my fam are bad enough but I understand wanting them for motivation.  You're beautiful and we love you and won't let you fail.  You will stick with just like we all will, and when we fall, we're there to help eachother back up!  :)

I have never done the spaghetti squash thing as "spaghetti" but have heard about so many times.  I have also never had spaghetti squash as itself period I don't think.  hmmm, will need to try this.

omg, I have a secret love for air supply so you guys mentioning that is HILARIOUS. I thought I was the last one on earth!  I'm a secret lover of Phil Collins too not that he would be the best to work out too.   My favorite band is Counting Crows and I'm a huge love of "boy with a guitar" music.  I've always been a sucker for musicians.  I do love me some angry girl rock if the mood hits, Ani DiFranco, Alanis, old Tori Amos.  And I love some hip hop and some rap as long as it's decent.  Kanye, Jay Z the good ones you know.  Z gets me into alot of underground stuff that I would never have otherwise known off.  Currently loving Battles, very electronic and wierd but solid and in the CD player currently is Peter Bjorn and John.  but then I go back and think I'm 13 and throw in Plain White Ts, I dont' even like Punk Music but Hey There Delilah gives me chills.  I guess my music tastes are ever eclectic.

I take a bunch of vitamins know which took my system forever to get used to.  got horrific stomach aches when I first started and had to stop and slowly add in one at a time.  I take lysine, cranberry (for the bum kidney) omega 3 and B6 for mood and b12 for energy.  I have hoodia fat burners that I rarely take but should probably start again to help my hunger.

Started watching the Fountain, holy confusion.  Had to stop because M woke up but will stick with it.  It's so sad and I really want to know what's going on.  It spans a time line from the 16th century, 2006, and then into 26th century futuristic stuff about a man and the love of his life dying of cancer.  Get out the kleenex.  I'll report back after I watch the ending.
LOL

I think I mostly maintain the same speed, regardless of tempo, except for the ones that get me fired up, but I love Air Supply--just like with Bread, I only know the songs on the Greatest Hits cd since that's all my mom had, but I can absolutely remember being a little kid and singing along with my whole family in the car to some of those songs! (another couple of flashback favorites--Celebrate by Kool and the Gang and Mountain Music by Alabama---blush)   Kelly Clarkson was my pick from day 1 for A.I.1, but I'm not so into pop---BUT I like that Since You've Been Gone and isn;'t Behind Those Hazel Eyes, hers too?

ROCK ON with Alanis!!! I totally need to get ahold of a copy of Jagged Little Pill! I could sing those songs in my sleep--and I like them all. ( : That's the Beatles, the Doors, the Eagles, I need to get on it with my Kansas friends (who wouldn;t have to use the mail to do it) and trade off cd's for a while. ( :

*bows and scrapes to the smaller belted abbs* YAY YOU!!!!! ( : That is such an awesome feeling!!!! I wore a shirt to lunch yesterday I haven;t been able to even button for like the last 10 months--the arms were way too tight too, and John said, huh, I haven't seen that shirt in a while....*smile*  That belt thing is the kind of stuff I try to file away for the next time I need a boost. ( ;   *hug* so proud!@

hey tamara--I hope your bouncy plateau is over too, but just in case, I was thinking more about things I did or cut out in the start to get the scale moving---and remembered I REALLY tried to cut way back on the amount of salt I was using. Course, I was the girl who salted everything without tasting it first, just because..... just thinking out loud. ( :

edited to respond to jenna! ( : YAY Air SUpply--I am not the only dork. =P I too am a boy with guitar kind of girl---love Gavin DeGraw! And Phil COllins---that's a good oldie! Hold onto the night and Another Day in Paradise are prob. my faves, but I like Genesis too! Vitamins can be ROUGH! I just got an all in one, "weight conscious" one. (lazy me)  God, I am so forgetful....

have to break up all my replies into several posts, so much to respond to!

Abbs congrats on being co-chair for such a worthy cause and I'm sorry about all of your loses.  It must be hard to lose so many that are so close to you.  My heart goes out to you.

Joanna, I am curvy too and love it.  definately don't want to be stick thin but also hate this belly left over from my pregnancy.  I know I should learn to embrace it, it nurtured and gave me a beautiful baby girl but I never had it before and it flaps all around making me crazy ugh!  I want to be lean and healthy with my curves in tact! and I'm so excited for your brother! I can't wait for next season now and what is up with last night and making us wait to know the winner.  I'm really rooting for Bonnie!
I want to be a wogger but it's like 108 here with the humidity, COME ON FALL! that's the best time of year and I love to exercise in fall, can go out and wog all day long and the chilly air is so exhilarating!!  Once fall hits, I'm going to go out walking on my lunchbreak like all you girls do and continue that through the winter as long as theres no snow or ice  that way I don't get too sweaty like I would just stepping outside now.
Yeah the heat is freaking crazy... I tried really hard to wog yesterday, but I failed miserably... It made me sad...
Don't be sad, Jess---soon it will be nice and cool, and we will all be out there wogging our buttocks off! Dude, that cracks me up----is it because it sounds like baby talk?

I think I will try and walk tonight after dinner--something I rarely if ever do.
I know everytime I read it, I chuckle to myself...haha!  I was outside last night and thinking to myself, hummm I am "wogging".  It's just a funny term... But hey anything for a good laugh!

We will be wogging our butts off as soon as this heat breaks...
Sometimes it feels like the heat NEVER breaks in Austin... and it's sooo hilly... which, Isuppose, is probably BEST for wogging...

But I am DRENCHED when I work out... so I often like to do it in the privacy of my living room...

I LOVE workout DVD's...  Cathe Friedrich HAS to be the best... she's intense... and has the MOST beautiful body I've ever seen... and her music is great.  She has this one ab video... "CORE MAX"... it is FANTASTIC....  3/ 20 minute ab/core routines... one on the floor. one on a fitness ball, and one on a fitness ball with a medicine ball...  Gets EVERY part of your mid section.

I like step, too.. .and she has SEVERAL step routines.

Kathy Smith is good too... for light days or her "Lift Weights to Lose Weight Parts I and II" is geat...Karen Voight has some good stuff, too.
Errrrrg!!  D is such an ass right now!  He's all stressed mad at himself for not studying this weekend or last night and now he's being a dick toward me.  I called him to get his student number because I nicely filled out a change of address for (the one that I reminded him to fill out months ago and he never did) so I could turn it in for him since I'm going there today anyway and it's out of the way of everythng.  And he all goes off on "How can you call me when you know I'm so busy....." because he didn't know his student number, after I told him where to find it.  Idiot!  Sorry, just had to vent for a min.

So for lunch I'm going to Subway for a turkey wrap unless I can think of somewhere else to go that may have a little less sodium in it.  It got a C+ when I plugged all the info in but don't know if that even includes cheese!  Holy crap!  I thought turkey was all good for you and a wrap instead of bread, but it's a difference or 270 or 290!  Only 20 more cals for their warm, soft, yummy bread?!  Maybe I'll go somewhere else.

Off to run errands.
Boys sometimes do not appreciate all the little (and big) things we do quietly to make their lives easier, huh?

I am SURE he will thank you tonight/soon---  ( ;

I WISH we had some interesting terrain/hills/something here in Kansas, but I shudder to think about me working out in TX right now. Scary....

I need to find some inside dvd's for those days it's raining, so hot, etc. I just would rather not think or concentrate too much when I am working out----is that sad or funny? =P
not sad!  I know what you mean.  exercise clears my head, I don't want it jumbled up with garbage right away!!

now, when I first joined CC, I wasn't exactly counting calories, I was doing this other program but joined to read the forums and look at recipes etc, now I have switched to counting cals but I have taken with me important factors of the other program such as the daily water intake and also eating every 3 hours but now just staying within my caloric allowance and exercising everyday.  I have some questions.  yesterday my breakfast was 283 cals, is that high?  it seems high.  and today it was 163, because on my work days I just make protein shakes and my breakfast meal replacement and to get my metabolism going in the am.  Apparently my goal of 140, can be reached by August of 08 doing 1700 some cals a day or by April 08 doing 1414 a day.  Girls!  help!  does that mean that I can eat anywhere from 1200 (least) 1400(first goal) -1700 (last goal) daily and still maintain weight loss with exercising?  why am I so clueless all of a sudden??  should I try to maintain the same number of cals a day or can I do a range being that I have 2 time frames (anything sooner than april was too aggressive accroding to CC).  I'm sorry I'm such a dimwit right now.  I've read alot of other posts but don't really get the whole "eating back your calories thing".  I just want to know if I can eat within the range and never go higher than 1700 or try to stick with the same number everyday???  :)

HELP!
See.. .with  me the DVD's are like playing a game... I suppose.. I want to MASTER them... I like the complicated ones... (but NOT in a classroom full of people as I literally FALL)..  Hey, maybe that comes from being a teacher.

I want to be the one who knows everything... who does it the best!!!

Anyway... I like to do the videos until I REALLY have it down... until I know all of the steps... and then I move on to the next one!!!

But some days... like yesterday... no THOUGHT at all.. .Iwas on the elliptical/then treadmill/then recumbant bike for HOURS... watching judge shows... reading subtitles... and listening to music... *lol*
You know whats funnier than wogging???  Being a wogger  haha!  Sorry I guess I am still stuck on the humor in that...
So D called and appoligized for being a douche bag so that made my day better.  I got to the post office, really cool comic book stamps!, off the my grad school office to drop off the forms I was filling out, to the bank to deposit check/get cash, and then..... drumroll please.... I drove past Subway, past Popeye's (my fav!), past BK, past Pizza Hut lunch buffet, past Wendy's, past Mcy D's, past Checkers and past KFC to get to the supermarket with a wicked salad bar!!  I parked on the other side of the parking lot and walked the parameter of the store before getting to the salad too.  Yay!!  270-290 cals for a ham or turkey sammich was just too much for me, it's all sodium!  And Olivia, I have the same salt problem, I salt without even tasting it!  People always say to me "would you like some pasta with your salt?".  So I'm trying to cut back on that.  When I get back from wogging (hehe) I can barely make a fist my fingers are so swollen because of it, not good!  So lettuce, cheddar cheese ( fat free I'm sure!!  j/k) sunflower seeds (unsalted) a little bit of ham, little bit of turkey and a hard boiled egg.  Oh and two pieces of pepperoni just cuz it looked good!  And I picked up a huge thing of strawberries that look awesome!  So I can't wait to cut those up!  Yay for lower cals!!

Jenna- let me know what you find out about the cals thing, I'm not good with that.  Try posting it as a forum and someone will help you out, then pass along to me!!

Yeah, I gotta get some dvd's to work out to on days when I can't get a good wog (tee-hehe) in.  I suck at dancing but loves choreographed stuff so thought maybe a Dancing away the Pounds sounded fun.  But I didn't get it because the line in Best Buy was huge but I'll get it later.

And I just wanted to clarify that Grandmother/mentor/best friend are all one person, not three, but loosing her felt like losing a million people because she was so amazing.

La-ti-dah, gotta crack down on my final and get the last two done!!
