Cristin - Being confused is all part of it. That is why I say if you need an ear to chew on let me know. I might be able to shed some light on the guy side of things. Tell me what's going on and I can see if I might now how to help you approach things. So how was the new joint, did you find anything healthy on the menu? Stay stong, girl! I got your back, a-ight!

Wildntaken - The "toppsie turvey" yes, but cannot find them out here in Washington. I would love to get something like that and be able to grow some of my own veggies. If you are in the triple digits already you must be in the southern part of the state? At that temp I can understand not wanting to eat, I would much rather just sit in the pool and sip on nice cool beverages all day. The storm was it a good thunder storm? I really miss those, I was back there in Jun and ran outside when the thunderstorm started, my wife ran out after me telling me to get back inside. I said no way I feel like a kid again! I will see what I can find in Zucc bread recipes for something a little more healthy. To tell you the truth I would think that as long as you clean the grapes well before dehydrating those should be more healthy than processed raisins. Nutritionally I don't think that there would be much difference, just remember that raisins can really add to your calories. (1/4 c grapes like 20 cals, and 1/4c raisins is like 200 cals.) I don't know the exact numbers but I know there is a BIG difference. Well, if I was closer I would probably be growing some of my own, and if I was doing that we may just have to get together to have a "Iron Chef" cook-off! Or we could just jump in the kitchen together and whip somehting up for everyone!

Ok, ladies we have lost Letsgetitstarted this week! Well, maybe she is still out sailing the big blue!

Ok, ladies need to get back to doing something resembling work.

hi all! got my beans picked! i got a walmart bag almost 1/2 full.... not to bad for the first picking....

papa - i have seen better storms!  this one was a little one with a nice slow steady rain.... cooled things down...  and left me without power!!!   and the raisins arent for me.... i hate raisins!!  but hubby loves them....  i pick them out of my foods... lol.....  yes i live in the southern part of mo...... close to the boot heel line.....  north of cape if you know where that is....

well got to go get buzy..... my bro wants some zucchini bread so i gotta make his....  and he needs fatting up some..... but i cant see that happening! that man can eat anything and all day long and never gain a pound! and he eats alot!! makes me mad at him... not really but i could have used those genes he got!! and got to get my beans in the freezer and fix hubby supper and i want to try to fit in giving my toy poodle a haircut! she is a shaggy mess!!

later all. have a great day!!

Wildntaken - So not only do you live in the southern part but you also live close to the delta (by the river). In Arkansas I will be living about 70 miles due South of Joplin. Out here it's not the rain storms that leave me without power it's the wind storms. It has been clocked at over 95 mph sustained on the point where my house stands. I am like you I have to be in the right mood and right state of mind to eat raisins. Don't you just love family that can eat anything and never gain a pound! Like you say I would love to have genes like that, because Lord knows I love to eat! Ya'll are talking about dinner and I am just sitting down to lunch how funny.

Later,
Papa

Hi everyone!  Just a quick message, we are still at our vacation cottage in Falmouth, when we got here the weather was so incredible we decided to stay a bit longer!  I logged in today to enter last week's weight on the challenge thread as I don't have any scales here - DELIBERATELY!Wink  Who wants scales on vacation...?

Talk to you all when I get back.

Take care!

hi all, just checking in......  it rained here most of the day.... not hard no storms, just a nice steady rain.... off and on...... and it has really cool off!!

oh papa, you would win in the kitchen....... as i was taught to cook the (good) bad foods! you know the southern way!  so learning to cook with healthier things..... is  a challange for me!!

letsgetitstarted, have fun on your vacation!! and heck no i wouldnt want to drag that thing with me!! have fun!

have a great weekend all! tomorrow is my running around day.... and the weekend we going fishing if it dont rain! so i will try to check in if i can!

Letsgetitstarted - Forget the scales THIS week! Have a great time on vacation, adn don't get to sunburned! I have never been sailing, even though I am a Sailor! I have to laugh at that one myself.

Wildntaken - At least it is still somewhat warm, out here in WA today it is overcast and back down to high 40's! I would much rather have it in the 80's. That is where I could teach, in the kitchen! I am still a SOUTHERN conisoiure of food. I LOVE MY SOUTHERN COOKIN'! My favorite is fried chicken. There are little tricks that I have learned. They may change the flavor a little but not enough to really notice if you didn't know something was changed.

Well, ladies, I went to see the doctor about my knee yesterday. She told me there is something that is supposed to be on the outside of my knee to stabilize everything, but mine is missing. She told me I was extremely lucky to have been wearing a knee brace with metal stabilizer bars or I could have torn my knee up so bad that there would have been no repairing it. Looks like my days as a softball player are done!!! Do you really know how hard that is for me though! I now get to go get an MRI and then go see Ortho, she told me not to get to down, but things don't look good. I told her that I would not be happy until I heard the words "we do not have to operate" come out of someone's mouth, until then I am going to be on pins and needles.
&nb sp;  Today, we are having the Command (company) family picnic, we are having it at the local lake so it should be a good time, just a little cool. I am doing the grill work so I may stay pretty warm.

I will talk to you ladies later, Have a great weekend!
Papa

hi all just checking in..... how is all doing??  me i am tired! i have picked beans and cukes!!  and that is loads of beans!!!  they will be good this winter!!!

papa! sorry you got bad news from dr! take it easy and well you knee better! hope your picnic went good....

well i tired i going to bed....  you all have a great nite.... and good luck with weigh ins......

hi guys, weighed in today, and i must say i am disapointed! why do i get stuck every 10 pounds lost?? i have been stuck for 19 days now!!  why? i zig zag my calories, and do my workouts, and stay very buzy most of the day....  just aggraveing!!  so what else can i do to confuse my body???  but maybe it just needs to catch up? i have losted inches..... i uploaded a couple of pics go look and tell me if you see a differance....  if you want.... well going to get buzy.... have a great day all....

cristin are you ok??? hope so!!

Hi guys.  How is everyone?

Wildntaken - thanks for asking!

I am doing ok.  Not really sure what is going on at home.  Just taking it one day at a time and trying to not be too attached.  That sounds funny, I know, but I guess I am just pulling away from him until I see some changes in our current situation, you know?  We went to visit his family this weekend and I ate horribly.  I got back to the gym yesterday tho.  I am pretty proud of me for my workouts these last couple weeks.  I guess that is helpful.

I am so jealous to hear about the gardening everyone can do!

Papa I hope you knee is getting better and I wanna see those pics of your new tatoo!  I have two myself, one I would actually like to have removed!  Haha!

Talk to you guys later.  Hope you have a good day!

Wildntaken - Question is how is your BACK doing? I looked into trying to grow some stuff on the porch and may try to grow some cukes. Being a vine veggie if I can do those I will try more later. Well, I would have rather received the news now instead of after retirement. If it needs to be fixed the military has some of the best doctors serving on active duty up here in the NW. If a military doc doesn't do the cutting, Seattle ortho docs are some of the best in the Nation. This is something I have been dealing with also, but the way I look at it is as long as the inches are coming off that is a victory in itself. My reasoning, a pound of fat weights the same as a pound of muscle, but the volume of a pound of fat is three times and much as a pound of muscle! What you are doing is still losing fat, but gaining muscle at the same time!

Cristin - YOU ARE DOING FINE!!! Your a bad a$$ witch and you are not going to take "poop" off of no body! (substitute words as you see fit!) You know we got your back, sweetie! Eating bad on the weekend vacation, I will forgive you THIS time! Great to here you are hitting the gym harder now! Take a picture of your guy friend and put it up on the heavy bad and punch away baby! Only do that when you are pissed at him though. IT DOES MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER! The new one makes four, three of them have family meaning. Why do you want it removed? You have put a guys name on your body didn't you!

You ladies have a great day, I am doing another inspection this week. Later

Papa

Hey all!

how is it going

Still losing slowly slowly slowly!

I switched Gyms and therefore  switched trainers... I have a meeting with my new one on Monday, hoping it goes well!

I just bought my own place and I am getting a huge workout just from unpacking and hanging curtains and working on my house!

hi guys, just checking in......   wondering how you all are doing? me hot and tired.... i just spent about 2 hours in the garden! i pulled beets, onions, and pick a couple of maters, they are just starting to turn! and picked beans and cukes and okra! yes i will be in the kitchen the rest of the day putting them up...

papa, my back, its ok, for now..... getting old is tuff!! my neck c2 & c3 disksare really bad and that is what bothers me more now....  hows your knee???  hope it is feeling better!! oh yeah papa, its hot here!! close to 100! heat avisories this week!! we had a awesome storm last week! the thunder was so loud it drowned out the tv! and the lighting was pretty!!!

kj, hows the new gym? and trainer?  congrads on the new place!

i had a great weekend...... we went out with friends sat nite and i only drink diet soda... i was the driver so i couldnt have any drinks.... but thats was ok with me.... we danced and had a great time. i am filling pretty good about this weeks weigh in!! so look out! before we went out i was digging thru clothes i havent wore in a year or more and they fit! and a bit baggy!!! i hadnt seen any of this group of friends in 2-3 months... and i was the talk of the nite!! they couldnt belive how skinny i look! and to me i still look fat!! but i must amit i loved the attention!!! makes me more motived to get to my goal!!

well i will check in another time!!

Kjmadill - Hey there girl, nice to see you over here in the first family! Good for you, and happy to hear that you are still on the slow and steady (the good way) way of losing weight. Try being me, I have moved (packing and unpacking) three times in the last three years. (GOTTA LOVE THE NAVY!) Congrats on getting your own place. Hope to see you around every now and then.

Wildntaken - You know I really dislike you now right! Laughing I CANNOT WAIT TO GET OUT OF THE NAVY AND AM ABLE TO HAVE MY OWN GARDEN!!!!!!!! I love fresh veggies! The only thing I have left to learn is how to can them up. In the past my mom has always done that. Your are preaching to the choir on that one, I may only be 38 but there are days that I feel like I am about 80. Well, I get to go get an MRI and Xrays taken next week. When I went to the doctor she said all the stablizing elements on the outside of the knee are nonexistant. The only way I see that is that I am going to have to get cut on. You are having the heat and I am haveing the cold. When you wrote this it was about 50 up here, overcast, grey, and rainy. But hey that's Washington weather for ya. OK, NOW YOU HAVE STRIKE TWO! The folks up here complain of it "really coming down" when it is a light sprinkle for us back there. Well, the only way I will dance is in a country bar/club, and the main kinds of dances for me are two step and Waltz, I have not learned swing yet, and it has been an aweful long time since I Cha-cha'ed. You should feel good about being the center of attraction. I saw a friend of mine for the first time in a little over two years, and he had to look twice because he could not believe I was the same person he rememebered from back then. It does feel awesome doesn't it.

Update on the knee: Went to the doc you all saw what she had to say. I finally got in touch with the MRI hospital, and not only do I get to have an MRI, but I get shot up with dye and then have a cross section Xray taken. When I was talking to the MRI tech, he said that he had not seen to many people coming in for what the doc from base had asked for coming away without being cut. That is not good news for me! I have a little over two years left and if I get cut over this they may not let me reenlist. I worked so hard to lose all the weight they wanted me to only to have it taken away from me by my freakin' knee. I am asking each of you that check in here with the family that if you are a church goer please add me to your prayer request list. I need all the prayers I can get right now. Not just for the outcome of the MRI, but for peace in my life that this whole situation has brought up. Thanks ladies, you know I love you all in your own special way. Thank you

Later Ladies,
Papa

Oh Papa....you know....I don't know where I would be without you.....You are such and encouraging and supportive person and I am so greatful to have you and the rest of this family in my life!  I will be praying for your recovery.  I have been trying to speak to Him a lot lately....as you can imagine from knowing my situation.  You have me wanting a garden so bad right now!!!  I have no green thumb what so ever so next year will be interesting!

Kjmadill - it's so good to hear from you here!  How do you like the new stuff?

Wildntaken - I am so happy to hear you got some positive encouragement from your friends!  That feels so great!

As for me, I am working out about 4 to 5 times a week and trying to make better choices with my food.  I feel good about that.  My boyfriend and I are still together for the time being.  Relationships are so freaking hard.  I am about to buy a new car...an SUV actually.  It's super scary cuz I have never had a car payment in my life but I have always always always wanted a Chevy Tahoe.  I am getting a smokin deal on it too!  So this means that I need to get a new job.  I think I told you guys that my commute is 2.5 hours a day.  That is not going to cut it in the SUV.  SO.....I need to get a job in the city I actually live in.  What a concept, huh?!  So that is my next big task.  Please keep me in your prayers there.  I am not the best at sellin my self....

I hope you guys are doing well.  Can't wait to hear from you!

Love, Cristin

hi guys! cristin, congrads on the suv!! and hope you get a job closer to you house! and about the gardening, just ask GOD to help you. and he will!!

papa, you have been and still are in my prayers! and if you lived closer i would share my veggies with ya!! i have been giving to family and friends and still have lots to put in freezer and in jars! this is the first year i have tried canning... i did can up some beets year before last and they were pretty good! and my grandma taught us all about gardening and canning! but she went home to JESUS a few years ago, so i am on my own with this.... but i will try and well let you know how they taste this winter.... i found a freezer pickle recipe and i am trying that this year.... see if we like them..... if not wont do them nomore.... lol..... we went up town yesterday afternoon. and at the bank the temp was 102!! but it felt like 202! and last nite we got a nice storm! really cool this morning! and now we are on a cool down..... in the mid 80's rest of week.... and i tell ya papa i cant dance!! but i tried and had fun.... and burnt cals too! the way the kids dance now, (no affence to anyone) the way they dance they should be home in bed.... lol....i cant do the two step, my feet get all tangled up! but we had fun.... and yes it was awesome feeling the way my friends talked about me!! makes me more motived!!

well all i think i will go wade the garden and pick more veggies. i am sure after the rain we got i will need too! have a great day all! and good luck!

GOD BLESS ALL ME FRIENDS HERE!! HELP THEM ON THERE JOURNEY TO A NEW HEALTHY LIFE AND HELP ALL THE ONES THAT NEED THE MEDICAL ATTENTION!! GIVE THE A SPEEDY RECOVERY!! AMEN!!

Cristin - That is what my job in this world is. I support and encourage my son every day, as he is Autistic. I have always been look at when friends need advice or encouragement. That was one of my "downfalls" in high school! NONE, of the girls wanted to date me because they "didn't want to ruin the friendship!" Now here is the kicker, even my sister's friends (3 years younger than me) would use that line! My wife 9 months younger is the closest in age I had ever dated. But the funny part is at my last reunion I had many of the girls I graduated with tell me they wished now they had taken the chance of dating me. Hey you WILL find that new job you need, and I bet it will pay as well if not better than the job you are at now. We will see how this reunion goes next month. I am here for you anytime, you already know that. Gardening is pretty easy once you get the basics down. One book that I have seen that lays it out in Layman's terms is "Gardening for Dummies". I know the title is a little less desireable but all those "Dummies" books that I have read are all awesome! I have quite a few in my own library. Congrats on the SUV, and no you truly do not want to be driving that monster 2.5 hours a day, you might get 2 days out of a tank of gas. Relationship are never easy! My wife and I have been together over 15 years now and we have to still work at it each and every day! There are things that my wife and I sat down and agreed upon before I ever even proposed to her. I told her later that if she would not have answered the way I hoped she would I would not have stayed with her back then. You have to stick to your guns and NEVER waiver! I wish you all the happiness in the world, you deserve it!

Wildntaken - Give me a couple of years and I will be closer! but by then I should be able to have my own veggies. I hae been told by my mom that I need to get a pressure cooker. Once I have that I will try to start doing some of my own canning. Yep, here is was in the 80's yesterday and this morning it was about 45! It cannot make up its mind out here if it is going to be summer or fall right now. Ok, real easy, I am going to call this (sticking with the ???? for Dummies theme!) Two Steppin' for Dummies! Guys - Just remember Clutch, Clutch, Brake! Ladies - Just remember Brake, Brake, Clutch! That is it in a nutshell! If they were dancing the way that I have seen some out here, you are right the only thing getting in the way is the clothes?! Ok, now you are just "rubbing salt in the wound" talking about how you are going back out to your garden!

I want to send a big "THANK YOU" with a big hug attached to you two! You ladies are awesome friends and I am blessed to have you in my family. Well, I guess I better get back to work seeing as how I am on company time.

Later Ladies,
Papa

hi guys. just checking in..... i have been buzy putting veggies up..... taking a break before bedtime....  yeah my grandma used the pressure cooker too. but i dont have one.... most of my veggies go in the freezer....  that way i dont have to get a cooker.... and with my maters i do the cold water way..... today i canned pickled beets and pickled okra.....  and i would love to do the two step, but i have really bad ankles.... and they get tied up and i hit the floor.... i paid after the nite of danceing the other nite... i had so much fun, but the next day my ankles hurt and was swollen..... but i will have that to deal with the rest of my life i guess..... i have had surgery in both and have author and tarsel tunnel in them..... so i do what i can and yes the next day or two i pay for it.... sorry papa i just love gardening!! it seems like it is my quiet time. out there pulling weeds, hoeing, and picking the goodies..... and burning cal. while i am at it...

well all, i am tired and i am off for a good nites sleep....

good luck!

I think I am going to try and do some veggies in planters. I know they won't grow as big as if they were out in the open but it will still let me get back into the habit of growning some veggies. I will let you know how they turn out. Well, I have been thinking about the whole knee thing. I know it will benefit me so I am good with it, but I still don't like it. I still have to go into Ortho next week and get looked at so we shall see. I have a gut feeling they are going to tell me that I am going to have to get cut on.

Where you at Cristin? Haven't heard anything from you in awhile. Check in and let us know how things are going!

Still checking in, later ladies,

Papa

Hi guys.  I am still here.  Just hangin in.

I am still going to the gym which I am happy about.  I am so sleepy tho.  I guess I am not sleeping well.  I got my evaluation at work and my supervisor was really nice.  It makes me feel bad for thinking about leaving!  Then to top it off, with all the drama going on at home, I told him that I may have to be paying all of all of the bills at home in the near future so I didn't think I would be able to afford buying the SUV from him.  He tells me that he is in no hurry to sell it so he will hold onto it for me for awhile.  Just when I think things are getting a little more clear some curve ball comes flyin at me.  UGH!

Papa - I am sorry you have to deal with all these issues with your knee.  I hope they figure something out soon and you are on the road to recovery quickly!  I can't wait to hear how your veggies turn out!  I have been working on cleaning up my backyard.  I am going to look into planting some veggies next year.  I will have to get that Gardening for Dummies cuz I don't have a clue!

I hope everyone is doing well.  You guys make me smile!

Love, Cristin

Cristin - Good to hear you are still doing well. I am once again going to offer my services, if you need someone to kick his backside I'll be there in a heartbeat! (he just can't kick me in the knee or I'm done for) Just tell me when and where! Sorry to hear about the SUV. I don't normally throw any scripture out becuase I am not a hardcore church goer but I was brought up in the church. Just remember that God will not put anything in your life that he knows you cannot handle. Yes, it seems hard, but let him work things out. Your life is going in the direction that it is supposed to be going. In the long run you will see, and then I will sit here and say "told you so!!!" No, I won't do that. Just know that I am still here for ya if ya need me.

Oh, don't worry about me, I am still working out just not as hard as I once did. I also know if they have to cut, I will be back in the gym as soon as they tell me I can be. I will let you know about the veggies. If you would just tell me where I could at least try to come over and help clean your backyard. You do know one of the best things you can do a year out is to fertilize the ground. Yes, that means manure. You can get the stuff from the store that doesn't smell as bad, or you can get natural stuff that only smells until it rains. I know it sounds strange but I love the smell of chicken manure, IT REMINDS ME OF HOME!!!!!!!! If you have never been away from home for 18 years you wouldn't understand.

That is what I am here for, to make you smile and to help when things aren't going the greatest.

Later ladies,
Papa
