| Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club | ||
| May 30 2007 23:53 | ||
| I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". . I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years. Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10). I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons. I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably. I may want to go on to a size 6 next. I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated. Maybe we can share ideas and recipes. Let me know if you are out there and interested. |

Hi there.... I am not entirely new to this site... but I wasnt really sure what my goals should be untill today. I love this group because it dosn't really focus on what you weigh only that you are trying to loose 10 forever. A little history on me...
My Mom is a Yo- Yo dieter. I was always kinda chunky but it didn't bother me much becuase I new both of my parents were larger and it ran in the family. When I started working out My wieght sky rocketed... I know I was putting on muscle but I also kept the fat... or so I thought... I started to get a little concerned so I went on a ridiculously low cal diet. Of course thats when the trouble started... I lost 40lbs real quick... then gained them back.... then lost and now I have gained them back again. I still work out and am in good shape but I am just so large. I guess Im here because I really want to loose 10lbs while staying in shape. Instead of not eating and loosing 10lbs due to muscle loss. So I guess I need some diet advice. I need to take in approximatly 1300 calories a day. How does everyone else stay within that goal in a healthy way??? Also if anyone needs exercise advice that is something I know a bit about. |

Ohio 45: Great plans and Congratulations on the inches lost. Measuring is such a great way to see progress. Good for you on giving those 16s away since YOU ARE NEVER GOING BACK THERE! I was thrilled to get rid of my 12s. That is the largest i've ever been and they were starting to get tight.
Vicstudentoris: Welcome, we love advice on anything you would like to share. What is your BMR? How many calories a day are you expending with exercise? How many lbs per week do you think would be a healthy weight loss for you? This might help us a little with suggestions. Todays goal: Expend 600 calories during exercise (already completed- 589 for cycling 12 miles at 13 mph and not sure how many for 30 minutes of tennis) Eating: 1800 Calories (to maintain weight for weekend) Weekends are my down fall. I am going to calculate how many calories the Trifle i am making is and figure how much sushi, ,wine, and scallops I can eat before I eat them instead of after. Sunday: Same exercise and calorie goals (burn 600/ consume 1800) I am going to allow more calories on the weekend than in the past just to maintain weight on the weekend and I will make up for it on the weekday when I am more disciplined to stick with my lower calorie eating. Consequence for not meeting goal: Will have to burn 1200 calorie during exercise on Monday. |

Ohio 45: Glad to see you rethinking your 2 lb per week weight goal and deciding what feels comfortable for you. I love your gym consequence. What a great way to get over your shyness.
Thanks for making me think about drinking more green tea. I am going to make a point to do that this week, I really felt like I blew it this weekend, but I reconsidered after I calculated my calories. What happened was I stopped writing things down and then I told myself, "what the heck", you've don't have any idea where you stand, you might as well eat what ever you feel like eating now. Then I decided to calculate everything and realized that it wasn't as bad as I thought. It helped me to develope a new weekend plan. Here's the plan: I will allow myself to eat more calories and the weekend. My goal will be to maintain on the weekend instead of losing. (I may decide to change this at a later date but for now I want freedom on the weekends. I can alway chose to burn more that I take in but that will be my option) If I do not exercise I can eat 1800 calories. If I exercise, I can eat the calories burned through exercise. This weekend, which for me begins on Friday, I stayed under my calories used in regular living and burned through exercising. I probably will weigh more tomorrow but it will be due to salt consumption. If I go under over the amount needed/burned then I have to make it up on Monday through exercise. For example, if I eat 200 calories more than I burn, I will do 200 extra calories worth of exercise on Monday. Monday goal: Burn 900 calories exercising (swimming 1 hour; running 30 min) Eating goal: 1400 calories Consequences: Weed three beds in front yard. |

Hello everyone!
I am having work done on my home and due to construction, the internet was up and down. How is everyone doing? Tonia, your plan sounds good. I think if something isn't working the way you want, change it up! You are such an inspiration. Ohio, congratulations on your achievements. Be very proud. I hung on to my size 18's for a while because I was nervous, but once you start giving stuff away; it feels great. I am now in a solid size 10 and would love to be an 8. I am not unhappy with the 10. but 8 is my goal! Welcome vicstudentoria! I like to use foods that are low on the glycemic index. They keep you full longer and don't cause a spike in blood sugar. Some good foods are cherries, grapefruit, yogurt, nuts, pears, etc. Things like rice cakes and pretzels are low in calories, but you often feel hungry shortly after eating them. Experiment a little with what works for you. I have been working out regularly twice per day and must admit I feel stronger by adding more strength training. I will weigh in on Wednesday and see where I stand. I feel very good and I think that counts for a lot. It is still very hot and humid in Pennsylvania so I must continue to consciously think about water. I didn't get a new first day of school outfit last week because I didn't meet my goals of staying the same or losing. Hopefully this week I will. I am thinking about a sleeveless dress with a little sweater or jacket. Wish me luck! Di |

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend. I managed to stay away from the pizza, but I did get a NJ bagel. I just can't resist!!!!!! Went swimming on Saturday for about an hour, but followed it up with a BBQ so pretty much cancelled each other out. Have to jump right into work today, but I'll try and catch up later. PS- Check out this site, some yummy looking snacks!! http://www.cookinglight.com/cooking/hl/nutrition/article/0,1 3803,228335,00.html |

Elabar: To answer your question about success, I have lost about 6 lbs. since I started this thread. I don't have a lot to lose so, 6 lbs can be very encouraging. People who have 70 to lose can take off 6 lbs. relatively easy. It has been an event filled summer with several vacation trips and social events centered around food. If it were not for the encouragement from the ladies in this site, and the accountability, I think I would have gained weight this summer.
I love the flexability that this thread has offered. The only structured thing we encourage is to list your daily calorie and exercise goals (if you are not able to post daily, just post when you can). Also, what will be your greatest challenge for that day, and how you might overcome the challenge. You may also list rewards or consequences for meeting your goals. This is up to you. Dievans: I was wondering what happened to you... great to have you back Mburns: Good job on the pizza. An hour of swimming burns about 600 calories but the sodium in barbeque totally bonks me; good thing you ate it after the swim. Thanks for the snack link. Can't wait to check it out. Ohio: hope you feel better today. That 4 #'s will be off by Wednesday. Good luck. |

Hey everyone! Ohio45, the weekends can be really tricky. But I'm really glad you ate something when you felt weak. Di, I'm doing well, thanks for asking. I've been working out twice per day too and it's really been making a difference. I think I need to dive in and start weight training though. Your outfit sounds pretty and versatile. Vicstudentoria, julia_rose and elabar, nice to see some new ... er.... faces(?) on this board. Thanks for the snack tips, mburns! Tonia, keep us posted to how your new tweaked plan goes. I'm still trying to "be good" on weekends, although lately I've allowed myself to drink wine and beer without beating myself up about it. I have an iced tea brewer so I always have a batch of green tea on hand for when I need something cold. I've decided to do double workouts every day and up my calories a bit. We'll see how that goes! Weekend report: stayed within goals, no consequences. Played a lot of early morning tennis (two hours on Sunday!) so I feel good, if a little sore today. Today's goals: 1400 calories, 2 workouts, 40 pushups. Biggest challenge: drinking that water. Have a good Monday! |

Well. I am back from my trip to the in-laws. I managed ok for a while and even exercised on Saturday. I went for a long walk, even jogged a little. Then I fell off the wagon and put on 3 lbs from friday. I did not exercise on Sunday, but did this morning. It took all I had to do that. I know I probably consumed over 2000 calories yesterday and possibly the day before. I consumed alot of salt in food, so that explains fast jump in weight. My clothes are tight and I am not happy with myself. But it was fun for a while.
I am determined to get back on track today and will give it my all. Goals: consume 1400 calories. Burn approx 300 in exercise. Keep this up all week and try to be good on the weekend also. Punishment: Cleaning my house! |

Yeah, I have about 10 pounds left now, too....I don't think I look HORRIBLE right now but 10 pounds would not be sorely missed.
My goals: Eat 1800 calories a day, at least 90 grams of protein, and do my walk 10 minutes/run 15 minutes/walk 10 minutes workout. Each week, I'll add 5 minutes to my running time until I'm up to 30 minute runs every day. I want to be healthy, and I think exercise is probably the best way to do that. Also, I'll do my 15 minutes of weight-lifting and strenght training morning exercises every day. Can't forget that. My rewards: For ever 3 pounds I lose, I'll buy a new piece of jewelry from claires. :D |

wow good job!
I'm eating about 1400 calories a day and I go street running for about an hour, I should probably figure out the mileage lol.I burn about 540 in exercise. Currently I am 135 pounds--used to be 160-- and pushing to comfortably fit a size 3, I can zip and button them but they are slightly tighhhtttt. What I did was buy it ahead of time and I've been checking in to see the progress. Hopefully by the end of the summer I'll be wearing them out. During this summer I had started to give up but after reading a few forums, everyone in CC gave me the power to conntinue. struggle: not having my loved starburst, i have a vicious sweet tooth How I'm overcoming: fruit is my best friend lol |

Hi everyone,
MONDAY Calorie Goal: 1400 Actual: 1467 Calories Burned: 690 Did not do the 900 calories of exercise as planned because the pool opened late and had to cut my workout short. I've been having loads of trouble with those last stubborn pounds as well, and just can't seem to break that stupid plateau! And today I even gained a pound (not fair, not fair) even though I ran 2+ miles and ate (I think!) pretty well. I even had lunch today... I've been skipping lunch lately, so maybe my body had gone into "starvation mode"? I hadn't been counting calories. Should I really stop exercising like Aeromancer (or whatever your name was) said? I really am not willing to have no exercise for a week. But I think that I should mix up my jogging with some more strength training... This is so disheartening. T_T |
