molly; wouldn't you think, lifting your arm and bending it to nibble throughout the day would burn some calories? Is that listed in 'Activities'?
Shopping? wears me out! That has to burn a lot (if mentioned here before, sorry to repeat). When I saw the word "Macy's" I thought of that. I mean carrying arm loads of clothes into a fitting room, arranging them, then undressing and redressing, half a dz times, and I always like to leave the clothes neat, so hang and zipper them. And, all that flipping through the sizes, sliding them along the rack, to better view your size. All in all, I think shopping is serious calorie burning. |

Ohio45 .... well said! We don't need the gym, we need the MALL! heeheehee New Rant: Grading of Food Log Items Ok, I have to admit that I just do NOT understand the grading system that Calorie-Count uses to assign to the foods that I eat. For example, my morning breakfast consisted of one packet of Kashi Go Lean Hearty Whole Grain oatmeal (150 calories), 1/4 cup of unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze (10 calorie), 1 slice of organic, sprouted, flax seed whole grain bread (50 calories), and one meatless Gardenburger Portabella Mushroom veggie patty (90 calories). Total: 300 calories. Every one of those 4 items is healthy! There's no red meat, there's no high fat dairy, there isn't even very much sodium! There's even 12 grams of fiber. And it was only 300 calories. Do I get at A+? Of course not. An A? Nope. An A-? Nahhh.... I got a B+!!! What in the world do they think I should be eating that would be a healthier, more balanced breakfast!?!?!? (Answer: 2 cups of broccoli would get me an A, I checked!) AAAUUUUGGGHHHH! =^..^= MOLLY |
||
| #367 | Sep 30 2007 21:46 | |
| It was probably the gardenburger that lowered the grade, unfortunately. Those things tend to be high in sodium sometimes. But who cares what this thing says? YOU know that you're eating healthy. Good job. | ||

Hi, All...gosh, how I've missed you! North Carolina was beautiful...Dogwood leaves are starting to change and the wildflowers were blooming like mad! (The pollen started me coughing but the flowers were so beautiful I'm not really complaining!) North Carolina, Alabama and parts of Georgia and Tennessee are in the midst of an "exceptional" drought. Many people rely on private wells for their water supply and lots of wells in my Dad's area are going dry. (Dad's water supply seems fine at the moment.) The lakes and rivers are so low that the rivers look like creeks. My dad says that, due to the drought, his garden wasn't very productive this year...although you can't prove that by me...I brought home 9 butternut squashes! I'll check out the link to a butternut recipe I saw above. I've also had delicious butternut soup and will try to make a calorie-conscious version. Molly, I'd forgotten about Ralph's...what a great grocery. I'm sorry you don't have a Ralph's, too...but, you have a Von's and they aren't bad, as I recall. I stopped at my fave Whole Foods in Marietta, just North of Atlanta, twice last week. It is great because it was an Atlanta-based international grocery called Harry's that was bought by WF. It retains it's original international foods lines and now has all the WF lines as well. It is the only place I know that I where I can choose from 4 sizes of capers! I got DH some lovely cheeses, including a lovely English Stilton! I also scooped up some wine (I love WF's "buy 6 and save 10%" wine deal!). I hope DH realizes how loving it is of me to carefully choose cheeses and wines that I won't be enjoying! Slow-Coach, I can't believe you got "bleeped" by CC! What a hoot! "Happy Birthday" to your BF. I turned 56 earlier this month although I can't actually believe it until I look in a mirror. Which leads me to my rant... Atlanta has a great "classic rock" station that I enjoy while driving back and forth to North Carolina. So, here I am singing away and drumming on the steering wheel and I look around and some younger people are looking at me and laughing. I am at first mystified then I realize that with my no-longer-svelte figure and grey hair I must look pretty silly "rocking out" to my fave music! I don't feel any older than I did when I first heart the Beatles and the Rolling Stones...in fact, hearing the Who actually makes me feel just like I did then...so, why do I look so much older??? Does anyone remember that cereal commercial from about a year ago when the woman's smart-alecky daughter wears the mom's cool 60's-style jeans and the woman starts eating the cereal, loses weight and takes the jeans back? Well, that's going to be me soon! I don't actually still have my incredibly sexy, hip-hugging, bell bottoms but I'll buy another pair! And I'll wear them with my grey hair! Well, it's back to the gym and onto the scale tomorrow...(deep sigh). JJ :-) |

Welcome back, stayonpiste!!! We missed you! Well, September is done. I've been dieting now for 40 days, and -- as of today's weigh in -- I've lost 28.2 pounds! (wooo hooo! Yay, me!) There've been so many firsts for me in this past 40 days .... starting with ... 1. sticking to a diet for 40 days 2. buying a bike and actually bicycling 3. Eating lots of new veggies (and liking them) 4. Joining a gym and lifting weights/walking on a treadmill 5. weighing, measuring, tracking and planning every thing I eat 6. taking my vitamins and supplements DAILY 7. trying HARD to drink lots and lots of water (all the time!) 8. Eating plenty of fiber DAILY 9. Eating NOTHING that has been FRIED 10. buying and using a bathroom scale (once a week!) Hmmmm .... I wonder what the NEXT 40 days will bring? Or even just October? =^..^= MOLLY

Monday is here!!! October is here!!! And I get to eat different cereal!! YAY!!! I am such a silly .... but even though I have four different boxes of healthy cereal in there, I prefer only to have one box open at a time (otherwise it seems to get stale!) After what seemed like forever, I finished my Trader Joe's high fiber frosted multigrain cereal and am now happily munching on my Kashi 7 grain Honey Puffs cereal (with 1/2 a banana and Almond Breeze!) I also ate 6 hard boiled egg whites for some added protein. I had "tummy problems" (the runs) ALL day yesterday, so I think I will be laying off fresh veggies for today until things calm down a bit. I hate tummy problems. =^..^= MOLLY |

I hate scales
Hate Hate HATE My scale at home says 190 (ok maybe i have five pounds of bloat from booze and a lot of chinese food.) The weight wtachers digital read out scale says I am 193 Almost have a flipping heart attack. Then the other scale at work says 184. Now I am not cmplaining about the 184 it is awsome. But odds are saying one of the other two is more right then that one. I think i am taking a sledge hammer to all of them. but with any luck the scale at my second job will say like 184-5 UGH |

Oh, angel eyes .... I'm sorry! How frustrating. Just use ONE scale.... no matter which scale .... but just ONE. Otherwise, you'll drive yourself crazy. (Which explains how I got this way, huh?) =^..^= MOLLY |

| Have you tried Trader Joe's Organic Honey Macadamia Grainfest? I love macadamia nuts. It's pretty good, if you eat it fast (don't let it get mushy). :) I also love plain puffed wheat with vanilla yogurt - YUM! And you can have so much of it! | ||

I am still trying to figure out how to log in six filched fries from my hubbys dinner tonight. My scale is still crazy. I replaced the battery and its STILL crazy! |

Shelly, It is my considered opinion that "filched" food contains absolutely no calories and may, in fact, supply beneficial fiber! Re: your "6 filched fries", surely the time and anxiety spent deciding how to log them has burned more calories than you could possibly have consumed by eating them. So, IMHO, you're now in the clear! Molly, I "discovered" Kashi GoLean cereal! It is yummy and high in protein and fiber and low in fat - which, when you think, about it seems all but impossible. I've decided, though, that I don't actually have to know how they do it - I think it's called plausible deniability! Jane's rant - I'm now in the third week of no weight loss - I'm stuck at 210#. The good news is that my clothes are fitting better, but I still want to see the numbers on the scale move! DH points out that I'm doing everything right - exercising, watching calories/WW points and writing down everything I eat. Bless him, he doesn't understand that nothing else matters if the scale doesn't reward me, too! JJ :-) |

shelly: didn't you know? 'Filched' foods don't count. I used to beg my hubby to have a bowl of ice cream, so I could filch a few bites!
hi everyone. Just leaving the house for a 2 hr drive to exercise!!! . . . translated into mollylingo: shopping! |

Hi all - Idecided to join in - this is my first post ever! My diet rant is about my subconscious. I mean, who gave it permission to sabotage my diet efforts? I can be going along quite happily, enjoying eating healthily and knowing it's having a positive (well, negative actually!) effect on the scales and then BANG! All of a sudden it's too much effort, I don't want to do it, know I'll be sorry tomorrow but somehow, my willpower falters. And it's generally when I'm stoopid enough to think things are going well. Grrrrr. So, I've been heading towards a 2 stone loss (that's 28 lbs for you folks over the pond) for some time now and am really keen to get to it. In fact, I'm doubly keen because it just so happens that I started at an exact stone and no pounds weight, which means when I lose anything over 2 stone, the big number at the start is going to go down too. I really wanted to stay on track this weekend to get a good weigh in result this morning and did I? NO! I had the worst weekend I've had since I started. I've actually moved my weigh-in day to tomorrow to try and fix some of the damage ? I'm discouraged when the scales go up and falter more, but if I'm trying to make amends without actually knowing the damage I find it easier. Weird, I know. The good news is that I've accepted that it happened and am now back on track, looking forward and am NOT beating myself up about it, thanks to some wise advice from my sister. Oh, I should have mentioned that to stop myself weighing I had to give my scales to someone else so I couldn't get on them this morning, blush. They'll be handed back tonight! I've been hanging around this board for months now, and have so enjoyed your rants, Molly. I love this thread! Somewhat worryingly though, I woke up early this morning and had an idea for a haiku. Obsessed? Moi? So today I've written six and I thought it wasn't something I could do. So I'm off to post my haikus in the other thread. Thanks again for being such an inspiration ? humour is the best way to rant, that's for sure. I'm just sorry my rant isn't that funny - needs work! Caro |
