I have looked for twins and poked around other groups without finding a real support group.
I am 48, 5'5", SW 151, CW 134, GW 128
I am the school teaching mother of three in their upper teens, wife of my 3 lbs from goal hubby.
SO...
Anyone interested?
Well girls I weighed this a.m. and so far my cook out indulgence only cost me a lb! Still its good to know that when your in your in!!! I guess that means turning 51 doesn't matter either!! LOL! I had one of those Jimmy Dean de-lites for breakfast this a.m. now I wish they would come out with no calorie easy hash browns to go with it! I don't ask for much reeeeaaallyy!!!! Ok Sue where are you? We haven't hear from you and Skn since "last month!" Soph you too! I need alot to read about from you ladies so that I won't eat more especially at breakfast!
That seems to be one of my most hungry times! Hope all of you have a wonderful week! Connie
Greetings-
Looks like you all have been having a FINE weekend!!!
Cho, I am sorry to hear that there have been even more events to add stress to an already stressful time. I do hope the wallet turns up or is found by someone with good morals. I have created two different documents for my own safe-keeping sanity in. One is strictly a "card document". It contains all my credit card numbers along with the 800 #'s to call to report lost/stolen, etc. The second I simply call my "safe document". It contains just about anything else I might need incase of disaster - car title #'s, bank accounts, mortgage #/lender, pension plan #'s, etc (you get the gist). I keep a copy of both in our safe deposit box. If something happens to my wallet take the list and just go down thru the list dialing my little fingers off and canceling everything.
Sophcesca - Glad to see you back here and good for you for not gaining while you have been playing hooky!!
Now you guys with the wounded arm syndrome -- we would like to make it perfectly clear that we are here to support you as long as you do not make this become a mandatory *club* activity!!!
My weekend - I was away camping and doing some outdoor activity type workshops. I had a good time, but Saturday was a day of very heavy rain so that was less fun. Sunday was better but the black flies and mosquitos came out in droves so once again it could have been better. I did trek down to the "campground grocery" and managed to find a decent bottle of chardonnay to take away the rain-blues on Saturday nigh. So much for sticking to my diet that day -- plus the whole campground does a potluck so you know I had to try a little of oh-so-many things. I tried to catalog it all last night when we returned and was pretty horrified with my calorie intake on Saturday. Oh well -- I can only look forward and try to get back on track.
-skn
Good morning all!
Sorry to hear about the "downs" (lost wallet, hurt arm, stress eating, poor baby horse etc.) and glad to read about the "ups".
My internet connection has been absolutely horrible lately. Every time I try to log on to anything, it "times out". ARRGHH - so that's why you haven't heard from me. This morning it is much better. Of course, the repairman is on his way today - so I'm sure he'll tell me, "whatsa' matter, lady? it looks fine to me".
Not too much to report here - my halo is still firmly in place, I'm sure you'll all be glad to know. ;)
We had a family birthday dinner on Saturday, and my Mom FINALLY noticed my weight loss. I don't know what's been going on with her. She's usually observant, but she was the last to notice, it seems. We don't see each other so often that it could have been one of those "too gradual to see the change" situations -but anyway, she said a little something about it. She can be pretty negative at times as she's gotten older.
Oh, yeah, I too am so glad that neither age, nor weight loss, nor weight gain, nor failure to write in a timely manner (just threw that one in there) can keep us from our group.
Happy Monday everyone. Sue
Hey all,
The arm is better today,
typing is ok, just don't ask me to serve at tennis...or...SHOVEL DIRT!
Connie, Is yours better? (I hope!)
Skin, sorry the camping wasn't glorious weather, but the wine sounds pretty glorious!
I'm sure you will get right back on track! Mmmm pot luck, It is lunch time for me...
Sue, No matter what is broken, not working, or making funny noises, as soon as the repair man shows up..it's magic! lol I know what you mean about age causing a bit of 'shortness', I have seen that too. Must be something happening to the brain that shorts out the 'niceties' at times. I am glad you got at least a little feedback. and Nope, crummy internet or computer issues will give you the boot!![]()
Lunch is waiting!
Hi, I'm 45 and have lost about 20 pounds so far and have about the same to lose. I just found this site a few days ago and hope it helps! I've been at a plateau for a while (several months). So far I've been using the logs and I think that will help a lot. I tend to eat a lot more when I'm stressed, which is often lately!
Also, I'm married with four children, two boys (17 and 14) and two girls (5 and 2). The youngest is living in an orphanage in China now but we should be able to go and get her in a month or so. My goal was to lose the weight by the time we adopted her but at least I'll be a lot closer than I was!
I've read a lot of the posts and everyone seems to talk about animals so I'll tell you about our menagerie. We have one cat, a turtle and four baby quail inside. Outside we have three frogs (we had two more but they jumped to their death into the pool right after my husband added chemicals this weekend!
) and about 50 fish in our pond.
I hope I can be a part of this group, it seems really friendly and supportive and I need that to keep me going!
Hi All,
Just got in from a meeting and I'm finally catching up with taking care of ME.
OK- here we go...
BetsyBell-Welcome! This is a GREAT bunch of LOSERS!
Alylou-glad the arm is better. But that should be a lesson to you... exercise is BAD!
. My legs are killing me right now and I didn't even do anything. Aging does suck!
Sue/Mom-glad the halo is still attached. And glad you will have better access to your internet. Technology! It gets us hooked and then breaks down... And I can understand about the mother thing. My grandmother was obsessed with people's weight and I can hear her voice in my head. I'd love to hear her voice-in-my-head say that I look good...
Skn/Sue-yuck about the weather and the BUGS. I HATE bugs. Generally I'm a sort of live and let live kinda person but not when it comes to BUGS that want to BITE me. Nuke 'em I say! Maybe I wouldn't mind so much if I tried the wine idea tho
Connie-Good thing you said that the 51 thing doesn't matter! And anyway, it was a FRIEND I was talking about!
Cho-bummer about the wallet. We had a laptop computer stolen when we went to pay our respects in NYC back in 2002. On the way home I was on the cell phone cancelling EVERYTHING. Basically it sucked. Luckily, it was insured. The insurance even paid for my time in reconstructing what was lost (it was a computer we used for business) That made it somewhat less painful.
So yesterday I (sort of) fasted until 7pm when I couldn't stand it anymore and this morning I had lost a pound which got me back to my low. I didn't exercise today, other than cleaning out the paddock, and I did ok with my food although I still need to log it so I may miss a few things... memory's not what it used to be. And the fasting made it so I feel full sooner which is very helpful. I know it's a controversial thing to do but I fast every now and then and I think it's ok. It's not real fasting anyway since I do drink a protein shake instead of meals SO DON"T YELL AT ME!![]()
Gotta go post food.
PS: I hope no one gets upset at me calling us all "losers". It's just that losing is my goal and I think of it as a compliment myself so i assume everyone else does too. Once my sister-in-law got mad at me for calling my daughter "skinny". Funny how one person's insult is another person's compliment.
Count me in the "Loser" list, jenny - a badge I will be proud to wear.
Well, the internet repairman came, mumbled a bunch of stuff about transmits and receives and three way split, and then basically said, it all looked fine. Huh? But, it is working - so knock on wood. I hate being w/o my computer.
Welcome betsybell - I love your name - but be forewarned, we kind of rename everyone in this group. It's a sign of our camaraderie, I think. You are so very welcome to join our group. My children are also adopted - and one is 1/2 chinese, so we have that in common. Godspeed on your trip to bring your youngest home. We haven't been to China, but will be going in summer 2009 for a family vacation.
Also, thanks jen and aly for understanding my comment about my mom. I love her, but she can be trying.
see you all tomorrow
Welcome Betsybell. Sue is right that we have a tendancy to rename folks on the list. Hmmm now let's see -- are you truly a Betsy (that will work for me) and if not then you are going to become BB so you might as well say "heck yes, I am Betsy"!! Glad you are an animal lover too!!
Yup, count me in as a loser too. I am just happy to be at a lower weight than I have been for the last 10yrs with still more to go.
Sue, I had to chuckle about your mom and have certainly run into folks that I do love dearly but they can be a bit on the harsh sides (or just blissfully ignorant) sometimes. But heck, if we were all alike that would drive us insane too, so you are blessed with variety!!
Alylou (& Connie??) - glad to hear the arm is coming back from the dark side!! Is that true for you too Connie?
At any rate, I must go feed the critters... just wanted to start the "morning wave" [from east to west coast] of emails and a hail to get the heck out of bed and report in!!!!
Have a great day all,
skn
Thanks for the welcome! Heck yes, I am really a Betsy! Well, I guess actually an Elizabeth, but that's a secret.
My only other name is beisi which is Chinese for strong, precious silk. Given to me by my Chinese teacher. I kind of like it but it's not always easy for others to say! I do really like being called a loser, too!
Sue - I can definitely understand about the computer! It makes me crazy to not have access to mine! Fortunately my oldest son is great at fixing them! And mom's can definitely be trying although since my mom started with Alzheimer's she's definitely mellowed out. She can't remember that she's mad anymore! China's a great place to visit, when we go it will be my 10th time there!
Skn/Sue - we definitely are animal lovers, too. I forgot to mention the parakeet and finch last night!
Anyway, hope everyone's having a good day! I lost a pound this morning, I think the log is definitely helping!
Hi Betsy! Welcome most definitely! I love having a "NEWBIE" to harrass um I mean talk to!
Aly I am very glad to hear your arm is better! You just had to be like me in some form now didn't you?! I have just been SUCH a success story!
Skn my arm is getting better. Better than what is the question of the day!!!! It still has that tingling feeling in the hand but I have been very busy with my poor little Mom(she has been very weak) so I have not been to the doc yet!
Jenny yeah oh a friend uh oh well sure you were.........Yes I am offended about the loser comment because I AM UP ANOTHER #$%#@ lb this a.m.
! I guess we do know what caused this weight gain.....ooooppppssss.
Sue have you ever thought that maybe that big "HALO" might be causing some sort of interference with your internet connection....I'm very surprised the repairman didn't mention this to you dear!
Soph I am glad that you didn't gain but I really would like to know how you managed..I didn't go anywhere but next door and up up up I go(scale wise sue...MY wings don't allow flight yet)
One more note this time serious..God bless you ladies that have adopted children. I think that is a beautiful thing and just adds to what a great group we really are!
Now back to my normal wit and sarcasm.....no just kidding I will leave you all with the "warm fuzzy" thought for now! Have a wonderful fat free day! Connie
OOPS I almost left you out Cho! How are things going for you? We haven't heard from you or Suzenf???? We worry ya know! Both of you just need to peek in and say Hi. Hopefully its that you are both busy having good times or perhaps out buying tiny little clothes! Anyway we hope all is well with our lost "GROUPIES" oh I think thats even worse than LOSERS( Jenny your thoughts here?)
Bye for now!
Good morning, all--and welcome to Betsy! We're in very similar boats--well into the journey, but with a fair amount left to lose. I'm having a hard time staying focused. I hope all of you on the disabled list are mending well, and all who are having a hard time of one type or another are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm happy to announce that today I'm wearing size 10 pants I got at Ann Taylor on sale this past weekend *preens* And my top is a size 8 (also on sale from AT). To quote from one of my daughters' favorite TV shows: Yay me! I realize that vanity sizing and just plain variations in sizing from manufacturer to manufacturer is how something like this is possible, but there really isn't anything quite as pyschologically pleasing as seeing a smaller number on that label.
I'm back on track (for now, lol)--my birthday is coming up and I'd really like to be in the 140s. I *know* I can do it. Connie, I don't know how I was able to maintain--I'm sure that as I try to get closer to my goal weight that I won't be able to mess around like I was--I think it's because you're so close that there's not a lot of wiggle room, so to speak. I know you'll get there (and stay there!). And then, I'm sorry, you'll have to leave. (Ha!)
I forgot to tell all you animal lovers about my pets: We have two guinea pigs, April and Princess Fluffy (my 7-year-old, who was 5 at the time, is responsible for PF's fancy name). They're in a cage that takes up about a quarter of our dining room, the lucky pigs. They're loving our switch to healthy eating--they get all the veggie scraps (you should hear them squeak when they hear the plastic bags rustling, lol). Not nearly as exciting as horses or a barn mouse (and I can hear Connie's cats saying, "Mmmn, guinea pigs...taste just like chicken..."), but they are sweet and cute and we love them.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Good morning - from the west ! I liked skn/sue's idea of starting the east to west wave!
Soph-congrats on the new small size; but I am seething with virtual jealousy here. Oh, oh, oh a size 10 - please Santa, I wanna' be a size 10, too. You have every right to be PROUD, Soph, way to go!
One quick funny story - and then - I'm gonna' go:
This AM, I was getting dressed to go walking and I grabbed an old tank top from the closet. Haven't worn it for a couple of years. (I have some nice tops/blouses that fit, but all my tee-shirts are way, way baggy or not suitable for exercise. And, because I hate my saggy arms, I don't usually wear sleeveless tops like tanks - even with our awful heat.) Anyway - back to the story. I didn't have my glasses on yet (man, i am old) and when I started to put the tank top on, I thought something fell from it. Too chicken to check for myself, I told my husband to look on the floor under where I dropped the tank. Sure enough - just as I suspected - it was an old, fossilized cockroach. EWWWWWWWWWWW The last time I wore that tank was our 2006 trip to Hawaii, I guess I had a hitchhiking roach come back with us from there.
There's nothing on this earth I hate worse than roaches. So, that tank top went straight into the trash can. YUCK!
End of story. SUE
Oh all you ladies are just so FUNNY! You brighten my day, which is gray and rainy today although we need the rain so it's ok I guess. My family thinks I'm a bit nuts when I chuckle out loud reading these posts. Ha ha! let them think what they want!
And as for bugs... here's my funny story. Another Rec Commission friend and I went out through the woods on Friday to check our town's new trail since we're having a Trails Day on Saturday and people will be walking there. Well, my friend found a few ticks on her beige pants as we went along... yuck. I was wearing jeans so I couldn't see anything and was quietly smug. When we were walking back to the cars I felt a little stab, looked down my shirt, and sure enough... a little tick was biting my breast, the little beast! Well, I took care of it in short order and checked again when I got home. Crawling around on the inside of my shirt were 4 ticks... YUCK YUCK and EEEEWWW!!!!
So I've been itchy ever since and last night I swear something was crawling on my back and I LEAPT out of bed but nothing was there.
How could I count that as an activity? Surely the rise in heart rate would count for something!
Jenny
Arg! I just typed out the wittiest long post ...full of sparkle and brilliance
and my computer flushed it!!!!! Now I'm outa time, so this will be much more bare bones.![]()
*waves*
Welcome Betsy! we are a great bunch...well, everyone else is, I'm just along for the ride! 10 times to China! Mainland I assume? we spent a summer in ROC, Taiwan, back in the days when it was still very hard to get into the mainland. Chinese is the hardest language to learn!
I'm impressed...*bows in your direction*
Jenny, exercise=bad. You are onto it!
Fasting has always sounded interesting, several health benefits, but I think I would require duct tape to accomplish it!
Oh, and I am a loser too!
What a bunch of animal lovers we are! Then there is Sue and her cockroach...LOL (I would have thrown it away too!)
Connie, you sure that's wings behind you? or maybe a forked tail?
Those neighbors of yours are just TOO nice! they need to give you a break. I know, how about they come an live by me for a while?![]()
Will be camping with my 7th graders tom and Thurs so I'll be back as soon as I can to post all my yummy pudgy pies!!!
pray for my sanity, and NO rain!
Alylou
PS tics! ewwwuuuu! creepy creepy bugs...
I definitely like being called a loser more than a groupie! I think I'm way too old to fit in that category (thankfully so, too!).
The ticks and roaches....gross. I definitely think feeling like something is crawling on you should count as an activity! I'm trying to figure out how to count going grocery shopping with my 83 yo mom who has Alzheimer's. There has to be a category for holding in stress after telling someone the same thing about 300 times! I did count time spent with my daughter playing volleyball even though I mostly waited for her to finally get the ball over the net and then chased it and hit it back then waited again.......
sophcesca - that's great wearing a smaller size! It is true about the vanity sizing and different stores. I've gone into some stores and left almost crying because the size I'd have to wear is so much bigger than at another store! Those are probably the true sizes, though. ![]()
Alylou - yes, mainland China. I've studied Chinese for about 5 years but still can't hold much of a conversation so you probably shouldn't be too impressed! When my daughter and I were in China it was really funny because everyone expected her to speak Chinese to them and she refuses to learn it so I'd answer. The looks on their faces was hilarious when they realized I knew more than a little Chinese girl!
Good luck with the camping.......praying for sanity, no rain and no bugs, either!
Going to sleep now, good night everyone! Thanks again for letting me join!
Morning girls! You know I just thought I was doing well! A size 8!!!!!! I haven't worn an 8 since I was eight! I actually have managed the 10's though but if I get to 130 my belly will say "sure put on an 8 and then you will be able to join a forum that says does anyone who looks pregnant at 48 want to start a new group"!!!!!!! Ok I'm not sure which burns more calories...finding a fossilized roach in your clothing or ticks but I burned 3400 calories myself squirming at the thought of either!!! My BIGGEST fear are spiders..ewwwwww I go crazy at the smallest ones. Just think what that "poor" little roach musta been thinking though..."yipeee I'm off to be a world traveler" and then ended up in a closet to have a eulogy on a cc forum!
As for all those ticks...they suck! Now for the guinea pigs I had many of those when I was young and just thought they were so adorable and therefore my cats have NEVER even been told about such creatures.....They have been asking for a pet bird for christmas this year though! LOL As for other conversations on here lately...I feel so deprived. I have only been to Cancun Mexico...otherwise only U.S. states for all of my travel experience. WOW I am VERY boring compared to you ladies! I am off to take my mom out for the day if she is feeling up to it. It seems to pick up her spirits alot just to look around at Kohl's or heck even the grocery store these days! She will be 81 on the 12th! Any unique ideas for a fun, raise her spirits kind of present!? Betsy I only had a limited experience with the Alzheimer's. My Dad was in the beginning stages but died at age 80. It was very sad at what part I did live through with him so you hang in there and be patient! Be thankful too that you still have your Mom and her you (no matter how many times you may have to remind her that shes lucky to have YOU
) My mom doesn't have Alz but I still HAVE TO REMIND HER that I am a treasure! LOL You know the
WINGS ALY------ no forked tail....well maybe just a tiny one! Later friends Connie
It's 7:30 PM and I'm still at work and I'm HUNGRY!!!
Hey, anyone know how much the tea in a mug (not the mug) weighs? I didn't step on the scale this AM until after I'd had my tea and I want to subtract it...
Think I'm getting a bit obsessed with the scale? Yeah, well me too.![]()
PS: I really don't expect an answer to my question...

Hey, anyone know how much the tea in a mug (not the mug) weighs? I didn't step on the scale this AM until after I'd had my tea and I want to subtract it...
oh, I'm very sure that tea weighed about, hmmm, let me see . . ., 4 pounds. How's that sound?
There are days when it would be great to just see a lower number, wouldn't it? I feel the same way or should I say 'weigh'?
Hope your evening goes okay, jen, and everyone else, too. I'm off to my son's TaeKwonDo awards ceremony and then out to a neighborhood Thai restaurant for dinner. I have no idea about the calories in thai food, but I've barely eaten today, so it should work out all right.
Connie we had a cat once that LOVED our gerbils. He figured out that if he climbed on the table and knocked th cage off it would break open! He never did catch one, though. Thinking about the present for your mom. It's kind of hard for me to figure something out for my mom since she's started to not want to do much of anything now. My dad had Alzheimer's, too, so this is the second time for us. ![]()
jennytu I hope you don't have to work that late often! I agree the tea must have weighed at least 4 pounds!!!
justamom maybe the spices in the Thai food will burn the calories off quicker??? Hope your son got lots of awards at the ceremony!
It rained all day here so I couldn't walk or anything but I didn't eat too much so that's ok. Nice lazy day!
Well, I had to take my oldest son for shots for a trip he's taking to India, did a week's worth of laundry, took my 14 year old son shopping since he didn't have any shorts.......maybe tomorrow will be my lazy day!
Have a good night everyone!
Sue/Mom-this is just too coincidental! My son practices taekwondo too. He actually started in shaolin kempo karate at age 6, got his black belt in that discipline at age 13, then switched to Taekwondo. He'll test for his third degree BB in January and is a Jr Instructor at the local ATA school. Do I sound proud? Ah well... I am...
And thanks for the weight of that tea Sue and Betsy. In knew it was way more than it seemed!
Time for beddie bye.
