Good Morning everyone, well it is one of those days for me.  couldn't wait till tomorrow to weigh in so I did it today up another pound... I don't understand this...

Carla can you send me that 3 day guideline you said worked for you because I am definitely on a plateau and it is driving me crazy.....I change what I eat, I have upped my exercise (other than this week with not feeling well, but still exercising).  and I am now gaining.  I agree with you Liz the calorie coach could be giving us the finger, I still think it's a guy.....

Ro you always make me laugh thank you.  Hey did you gain some weight at first when you started the protein drinks?  I started them last week and wondered if that has anything to do with this now gaining a little, before I would go down then up then down with that same 1lb, 1 1/2 lbs, but never up more, now it is up MORE...

Oh well it is sunny today so I will see what today brings and do my exercise and eat well... have a good one ladies.  Betty Frown

Hi, I am Kizzy and I live in Andalucia, Spain.

I am 51 next month and need to lose nearly 5 stone.

I have high blood pressure and need to lose this weight.

This is my first post.

Kizzy x

Hi Kizzy and welcome and good luck.

Good morning all.

Cheryl- thank you for your response to my last post, it was very helpful. Your description of your efforts to lose weight as "fragile" made alot of sense to be. You are right!

Like everyone here, I am sincere about wanting to lose the weight and keep it off- and clearly that means a complete lifestyle change. I am committed to that and stopping is not an option for me either.

I have spent far too many days feeling bad about myself because I am overweight and my nice clothes don't fit anymore.

My weight loss is averaging a pound a week since I started here. (I checked it this AM as I was pretty sure I would not get bad news...and I didn't).

But lets face it, a pound a week required ALOT of work. Gone are the days weight loss was easy! Strict diet, lots of exercise....I mean c'mon! No wonder much of middle aged America is overweight.

I shall find a way to cope with social occasions. Not sure what at this moment, but I need to find some ways!

It is so interesting...eating is a behavior that objectively is completely under our control...no one is literally putting food in our mouths. But social pressures, temption, and emotions get so tangled up in it.

Liz

Hi everyone...

I'm 48 years old, live in Texas and have 12-15 pounds that won't budge! Being idle right now from the season is depressing. I bought a treadmill for Christmas, thought I was eating healthier but, this morning I weighed in and I gained a pound! I need HELP and encouragement.

I just started logging my foods and activity ..... guess we'll see.

Hello everyone, hope you are all having a good day it is rainy and dreary here today.  But I am not complaining it isn't SNOW...

FYI... in case you did not know this forum was moved to the lounge forum so let everyone know since if you didn't tag it you may not be-able to find it.  Although it should email everyone when new posts are logged "I Think".

Welcome Kizzy and Tears... Kizzy what is a stone?  Can you put it in pounds for us.  Tears we have a couple people from out your way, me I am in CT.  You will be surprised once you log in for a while what you are actually eating in calorie intake.  I too am at a standstill and am very close to my goal weight, trying to decide if I should just stay put or go for the extra lbs.  I have gained this week as well, however, I do not let it get to me since you can vary a pound or so any given day.

Liz if it helps at all I eat before all social occasions and that seems to help me with my hunger and I am less likely to eat something I might not otherwise or at least eat just a small portion.

Have a good day everyone.  Betty

Hi there, I have been out of the loop for about 1.5 weeks, and things have gone poorly.  I have continued to eat @ 1100-1200 calories again, and continue to exercise.  I even too the advise of "leaving a little on the plate", but have mysteriously gained about 4.5 lbs.  I think my body might be in that "starvation mode" and be eating whenever, even though I am attempting to avoid carbs and fat.   So that is my situation.  Back to square one!!!

Ever tried the Whey protein powders with soy milk? I was reading this magazine that said if you eat 20 grams of whey protein and at least 20 grams of soy protein together twice a day that it helps speed the metabolism and you'll lose weight. So...I started making this protein shake (1 scoop vanilla whey protein, 2-3 frozen strawberries, 1/4 of a banana, 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 1 cup of soy milk (light) and 2-3 cubes ice blended) thought can't hurt, everything in its healthy. I'm drinking these things 2x a day then for a snack eating soy protein bars at night  a healthy dinner did this for a week. This is how I gained 2 pounds! I actually felt better while I was drinking them and they are filling.....any suggestions on what went wrong???

Tears

Well, top of the mornin' to y'all!!! Laughing

I'm down another .6 pounds this week.  Could have been more, but I've been fighting off a headache/migraine all week long.  The air around here is so dry and it has been sooooo dusty and windy.  Nothing like Texas dust!

I had a "strange" week to put it lightly LOL.  After ruling out my regular Deli, at least until they deal with their "fuzzy visitors" I was actually at a loss for what to do!  Isn't that horrible?!  I mean.... yikes!!!  I may actually have to make my OWN salads and sandwiches at .... home!!!!  LOL  I obviously have a problem (I think it's laziness).

I also found out that I'm a tad impatient.  I start looking around and others and their weightloss numbers and start being hard on myself if I don't lose as fast.  I called Dr. Gates' office and pretty much had a pity party phone call around the first part of the week.  I got some good advice on mixing up my exercise, to throw my body off guard so it'll "give up the weight" that it's holding on to.  I was going to add adenosine to my injection, but after talking it over and praying about it I decided with the present mix of b6/b12/lipo.  It has worked for the previous 25 pounds, and I'm sure it'll work for the next 15 or so.  I've also cut myself some slack about having to look like all the "air-brushed beauties" that grace the pages of Health magazines (of all places).  My weight loss is at a safe and effective rate and I will most likely KEEP IT OFF if I keep going the way I'm going...

Other than that, we've been looking for another house that is more insulated in the winter time.  I'm so glad that we're leasing this one on a month-to-month basis so that we can really get to know this area and this house!  We've been here close to 2 years, so we pretty well know that it's not a house we want to buy... too many updates to make it more energy efficient.  At least now we can maybe move to a suburb south of here that is a little college town.  It's where I went to College, and it was "my home" for 3-4 years.  Kinda gives me the warm fuzzies to know we may be moving "back home" LOL!!!!

Have a great, fantabulous week!!!!!     ~Ro~

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a great weekend.  Welcome Mary.

Skinnyoldme I hear you, I have been the same weight going into my 6th week now, up and down that 1 -1 1/2 pound each week.  Someone suggested to me the zigzag method.  I attached a site that explains it and it sounds good.  I feel that my body is too used to what I do and eat now even though I have changed my exercise each week (maybe not enough).  So I thought I would try it for a couple weeks and see if it works... If anyone else knows anything about this let me know, I only know what I have read in this site and a couple others.

Tears sorry I don't know anything about the whey protein powders but I have heard that the protein drink can be high in calories??? The one I drink is 180 calories.  I only have it for breakfast on the days I work on the bowflex.

Ro congrats on your loss, and slower is better.  Good luck with your house hunt wish I was there to help you.  Have a wonderful day everyone.  Betty

Hi to everyone! ive only been coming to cc for 3 days but love it! glad to see a forum for over forties.i have 50lbs to lose so could sure use encouragement.

Tears-

Sounds like although you are eating healthy, you are still consuming too many calories.

Soy is a good source of protein but calorie laden. I love soy milk too but you have to limit your intake. One cup of plain soy milk has 100 calories. Try one drink a day as a meal replacement, use skim milk (or water), maybe some fruit and low cal sweetner for taste. Be sure to figure out the calories in that drink, you should end up around 300 calories total.

How many calories in those snack bars? In your healthy dinner?

I made these same mistakes some time back. Have you figured out how many calories a day you need? Once you do, track them carefully in the food log, it tends to keep me honest and on track.

Thanks girls...didn't really think about it so started doing the math on those protein shakesSurprised what a shocker!!!! Okay, watchin what goes in the mouth a little closer now.

Anyone golf? I played the last 2 days, Loving the weather here in Texas! Felt good to just get out and move.

Thanks so much for the advise and the web site.  I still think that I am way under the calorie count.  I think at some point my body will "get it" and start to actually use some of the fat it has stored away.  (I think I could go for quite a while!)  However I do get hungry during the day and do need to eat something.  Yesterday and today it has been a can of soup for lunch, and scrampled eggs for dinner.

I would blame things on the scales rationalizing that they must be broke, but I went to 3 different scales!  Things have to get better at some point.  Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi everyone.  Welcome Tears and akdawn.  Tears, the only experience I have ever had with the protein powder is through my youngest son.  Of my 3 children, he is the only one athletically inclined.  When he was in his late teens, he started doing serious weight lifting and drank protein powder to bulk up.  It worked too.  As for myself, I have never had any luck with liquid meal replacements.  I tried them but within an hour, I felt hungry again.  Whole grains, lean protein and lots of veggies (senseably prepared) have been working great for me so far.  Some evenings, I have actually had to work at reaching my calorie allowance.  No one could have ever convinced me that such as that was even possible.

Skinnyoldme, haven't we all been the victim of "broken scales and dryers that shrink all our clothes"!  Comes a time we all have to realize that it's us and not our household appliances.  Isn't it a pitty that none of us came to that realization when we only had 5 lbs to loose.

The hubby and I went for an evening walk last Saturday.  We walked down (and up) a little country road next to our house.  My shins were killing me going down.  He didn't have any trouble at all until we started coming back up, then his knees were killing him.  Going up didn't bother me.  So...it looks like it takes both of us together to make one good one!  I did enjoy it dispite the pain.  My shins are so sore, I walked around the office today like I had scubba diving flippers on my feet.  Oh well, another day, another adventure.

Good morning everyone, Welcome akdawn.

Tears, I agree with Liz about what you put in the drink, I use low cal juice and sometimes some Lactate milk too (I can't drink milk) and fresh and frozen fruit.  If you use the juice they tend to be not so thick and the juice I use is only 40 calories, if you put in some frozen fruit it will thicken it up and you don't need ice.  I also buy a lower calorie protein drink because the powder alone tends to be very high in calories.  I don't play golf but hubby wants to teach me hmmmmm.

skinnyoldme it does sound like you are under your calorie intake.  Even though every part of you is screaming don't eat I am afraid you NEED to.  If you add in snacks between meals and eat some protein bars or nuts and fruit you will add some very needed calories and you will then start to see the scale move. It may go up at first but will then drop as your body realises you will feed it, that is as long as you eat well.   You also MUST eat breakfast if you don't.  That is the hardest for me I am not a breakfast eater.  The more small meals you eat the better your metabolism will be hence you will then loose weight.  Did you look at the tools here?  If you start logging in what you eat (pain in the ---) but so important it will help you a great deal.

Cheryl, isn't it nice to have hubby walk with you I look forward to our weekend walks we were so busy this weekend we didn't have time and I really missed it.

Have a great day everyone.  Betty

Good evening everyone.  I have something non-food or exercise related that I would like to share with you all.  This has been a very special day for me.  My daughter is 5 1/2 months pregnant and today she went for an ultrasound to determine the gender of the baby.  It's a boy!  Not a one of us care whether the baby is a boy or a girl.  It's just that each new step makes the whole experience that much more real.

Actually, I just realized something as I have been typing this.  I didn't celebrate with food.  It didn't even occur to me that the occassion called for a hot fudge sundae.  Maybe there is hope for me yet.

Have a good evening and a good day tomorrow.  Cheryl

Mamafred, enjoy every step of the way to grandmotherhood. It is a great journey! Good for you for celebrating without calories--you need to get in shape for the very important job ahead :)

BTW, I've just returned from a visit with my son, DIL, and 4 grandkids. I didn't gain anything and am surprised I didn't lose. Grandmothering 4 kids is lots of work, but so much fun.

Hi GardenSue....I'm 47 and will turn 48 in March....I want to loose 30+ and have joined CC two weeks ago.  I've lost about 7 pounds so far and I want to continue the momentum.  Any support I can get will motivate me to stay on track.  Please add me to your buddy  list and I will do the same!
