We're on a mission to Run Around the World!
Please visit the previous incarnation of our thread here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/484 66.html.
Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!
Some info about us:
We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.
Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!
Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Remember, ANYONE is welcome to join, and everyone is welcome back, no matter how long you've been away. Happy running!
Good luck with your continued training, both for the half marathon and the marathon in the fall. Feel free to ask us any questions about training, nutrition, footwear, injury prevention/treatment, etc. Whatever it is, I'm sure that plenty of us will have answers or useful insight based on our experiences as runners.
Thank you to all regarding the blisters. I will go with the band-aids (because I have those within reach) but will definitely scout out the moleskin product! That seems like it might be a more stable product than band-aids. And Jenka, I have tightened my laces -- especially on the one foot, I noticed there was more sliding. Here's a new question, though, sometimes the laces are too tight causing weird circulation issues. I know I read somewhere about different ways to tie shoes (other than the traditional lace-up) -- does anyone happen to know about this? Or can reference it? If not, I'll google. Thanks again!
Wrm, so glad to hear your running was pain-free today! Make sure to keep us all updated on the 50K that's coming up! And nice job on hitting 500 miles!!! Droach, nice job on the 5K PR!!! Welcome, kscout!!! We are so glad to have you here with us. I know I find everyone here to be extremely motivating, supportive, and helpful.
2.25 miles for me today. =)
Welcome kscout! I totally understand being slightly obsessive (?) about a sport...
Primadonna have you thought about trying elastic laces? I had all kinds of too tight / not tight enough / circulation / movement in the shoes issues until I accidentally discovered elastics (accidentally because I originally put them on my shoes to make for a quicker transition time during tris). Since I've been with elastic laces, all of my circulation (&tc.) issues have disappeared. You might want to give it a try!
I only managed to run once this week: 6.59mi.
I hope I'll be better next week.
Primadonna, that is so weird, Active.com just sent out a really great synopsis of different ways to tie your laces last week! Here's the article, with convenient videos to show you how. Although I am definitely going to look into skinny_kitty's elastic laces, too.
Kscout, welcome! A lot of us are training for half and full marathons! We try to be a great source of support for each other. It's wonderful motivation!
Wrm2105, you are awesome. Your mileage rocks. I'm at least 200 miles less than you for the year! Glad your hamstring is better.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend! I have started tapering so my long run this weekend was only 9 miles. Beautiful weather, such a nice run! I really look forward to my weekend long runs in the spring.
Last week was a cutback week, only 19 miles for me.
Anne
In past weeks I've always taken the day after my long run off as well as the day before. But since my legs feel so good today i was thinking about running again. Would this be bad? In April I'm running a 6K so i thought maybe I'd do that distance today just to a see what my time would be. Since I usually run more than twice that I have no clue how quick I can do it. Do you think I should just rest or will I be OK to do this? My other concern is making myself stop running. I usually hit my stride at about mile 4 or 5 and then feel great. I'm a little worried I won't be able to stop myself from running further...But I guess if I'm going for speed i'll tire myself out since I'll be going alot quicker than usual.
What are your thoughts?
3.1 saturday and shaved another 2min off the time!! Shooting for 30 min and am only 10 away!!
Skinny, I'm totally looking for those elastic laces!!! Thanks! And thank you Jenka for the link b/c I probably won't splurge on the laces (and other running gear since I can't go into a store without buying like a crapload of gear) until my birthday in April. Oooo there's so much fun stuff to buy this spring. Minie, I usually do the same thing you do regarding long runs but will modify based on my weekly mileage (which sounds like is exactly what you did). I have no idea or reasoning as to why I do this, so I'm looking forward to more scientifically based answers which will hopefully teach something better for the body! ;-) But, it's exciting to hear that you ran that distance and don't feel sore!!! You are going to do great at Broad St! droach, nice job on the 5K time!!! You are really doing great with this!
7.5 miles for me today.
And let me just VENT! The weather is beautiful here in the greater Philly area (yes, Jenka, I too look forward to long runs in the spring!), so I headed off to Valley Forge National Park to run what I was hoping would be a 7.5 or 8 miler. It's a trail run which can throw me off, but I like that the run is right along the river and not generally crowded. It's an out and back run, so I stashed some water on the side of the trail with the intention of having that and goo before finishing the last 2 miles. Now, please note, that I forgot an extra bottle of water to keep in my car and had driven about 45 minutes to get there. So I run the first 5.85 miles and am feeling really good and know I'll be able to finish the last 2 miles with some water and goo. Don't I go to where I stashed my water AND IT'S NOT THERE! Color me pissed off. Someone took my water, so not having enough hydration to finish the run, I had to run only 6 miles on the trail, drive home (45 more minutes), drink some water and stretch before finishing the last 1.5 miles on a treadmill. The only thought getting me through this is that some ignorant walker *may* have thought it was litter and was doing something green by throwing it away. This is motivating me to create little water bottle stickers that say, "This bottle has an owner who is a runner. It was stashed here so that he/she could rehydrate upon returning to this location. Please don't take it."
Then I'll market and sell them (after giving them out for free on this thread) and make tons of money so I can quit my job and focus solely on running.
Thanks for listening! Happy running!
I took time out in the middle of the work day to do a little run today and boy am I glad =) I feel great!
Please add 3.7 miles from me today - thanks!
please add 5 even for me tonight, run some easter junk food off!!
35.55 Miles for me this week please. Thanks!
