This past week has been very eventful and I haven't been able to keep up with the Questions of the Day.  My boyfriend has been wanting to go everything and do everything because he knows we wouldn't see each other while he was in Sicily visiting his family from June 7 - August 18.  Long time!  :-(

We went out for Thai, Indian, sushi, Carolina Barbecue (twice), vegetarian, and many more, as well as going to the beach twice.

I had my sodium problem again.  I'm willing to admit that if there is too much sodium in my diet, I retain water for two days and then my body decides to expunge all of it PRECISELY when it feels like it.  So yesterday I was driving back to my place, and I was five to ten minutes from my dorm when I felt the little twinge of having to go to the bathroom.  I shrugged and said that 10 minutes wasn't a big deal, and that I'd do it at my place.  Well, when I got out of the car, it was Gotta GO NOW.  Luckily I was wearing black pants (which is NOT common of me), and no one noticed that I was holding it as hard as I could while leaking.  It only happens, though, two days after a high-sodium diet.  Normally I keep myself within reaching distance of a bathroom, but it's not always the case.

I'm going to do this one only, and I'll catch up when I'm not LATE.
QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)
Do you eat different foods in the summer? (More salads? More fruit?)

Assuming my boyfriend doesn't make us go out to dinner a million times that week (see above), I have no choice but to eat badly.  I live off a meal plan (my "place" is my dormitory) on campus for summer classes, and they keep open their Pizza Hut, Quiznos, Burger King, and Chick Fil-A.  Lately I've been suffering through Chick Fil-A salads and Quiznos "Sammies", but I can't say I'm winning the battle.  When I started in this thread, I was 168.0 lb.  Today it's 171.4, and that's the lowest it's been in a few days.

QOD:  Yes I do seem to eat more fruits and salads during the summer!  But I think that's because during the summer, my husband is away working at a Boy Scout camp.  So I can buy as much fruit and veggies as I want, knowing I'm going to eat them and not be tempted to eat whatever "bad" food hubby is eating for dinner.  Lol.

I'm thinking of trying to eat nothing but fruits and veggies for a week and see what happens.  Can't hurt!

Today is my Weigh In Day!

Two lbs!  Not a bad week if I do say so myself!

Happy Monday!

QOD - I definitely eat more fruit - I love fruit- could live on it! I'm not a big veggie person but fruit - that's different. I don't think there is any fruit that I don't like! Also, I eat more salads because some days it's just too hot to cook or grill, or I just don't have time  to cook - golfing and working in the yard!. I get so busy outside sometimes I forget to eat - which I need to change beacuse when I come in starving I don't always make the best choices LOL

#264 laurienkids2 Jun 02 2008 17:47

I have been bad about the QOD and posting regularly, but I aim to improve! :)

Question of the Day (Tuesday 5/27) ...

Do you tend to eat the same basic breakfast every day, most of the time, or do you switch it around a lot?  Are you happy with your breakfast?

I seem to have a lot of trouble with breakfast, I used to not eat breakfast at all.  I don't like oatmeal or yogurt so that's not an option for me.  Since I have started counting calories, I have made myself eat breakfast, almost every day.  I eat low fat bagels spritzed with butter spray, egg white omelets, or whole wheat english muffins.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: WED MAY 28:

What proteins have you eaten today (or will you eat today?)

I have milk everyday, eggs & cheese so far today.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29

What have you done today to burn calories?

My day is just beginning, but I have already went & up down my stairs 4 times getting & putting away laundry, with more to come.  I will also do my new biggest loser sculpt video sometime today.

QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR FRIDAY MAY 30

Do you tell people when you are "dieting"? (Counting calories, trying to lose weight)

I don't like to use the word 'diet'  but there are a few people that know I am trying to get myself healthier & lose weight.

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)

Do you eat different foods in the summer? (More salads? More fruit?)

I definitely eat different foods in the summer!  I LOVE fresh vegetables & fruit.  So, this makes me eat more of them when they are growing in my backyard or my Grandmothers.  Yummy!

#265 smwhipple Jun 02 2008 20:00

I do eat different foods over the summer.  I'm more likely to go for salads and for fresh fruits and vegetables.  In the winter, sometimes I just want something warm, in the summer I often want something cold.

Today I'm sick, so I can't quite decide.  I'm going to try my cold Thai chicken salad, but I may decide it's worth the effort to go out and buy some Chicken Tortilla soup (dinner perhaps).

I have been checking this out for the past few days.  I am an avid lurker/occasional poster on Molly's ranting thread, so I thought I would check it out.  To be honest, I didn't start this earlier b/c I have been unwilling/unable to muster up the energy to make any goals regarding this journey of mine.  I have been at a 5 month plateau and am frustrated beyond belief.  I have also been having a personal, non weight related struggle and am just starting to feel better/more able to focus on what I need/want to do for my health and my body.  And personally, writing it down for y'all to see will make me feel more accountable.  So that said, my goals for the next 60 days are as follows...

1)Drink at least 64 oz of water per day

2)Take 2 yoga classes per week, 1 strength class per week, 4-5 cardio sessions per week to include kick boxing and boot camp.  ( These are new and I need to change up my workouts)

3)Get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. (Been averaging about 5-6)

4)Eat one vegetarian meal per week.

5)Drink alcohol only one day per week. (Except when I am on my winetasting vacation with DH and BFFs in late July)

6)Eat 1200 to 1400 calories per day, except one day per week when I will eat maintainance calories.

7)Keep fiber intake at least 25g per day and decrease sodium.

8)Log my food.  I have gotten a little lazy with this.

I will only answer today's QOD.

Cottage cheese= curdly blahness (unless it's mixed with something or has pineapple on it)

MONDAY JUNE 2 QUESTION OF THE DAY

What two words would you use to describe cottage cheese?

MOLLY

Not a big fan of cottage cheese so I have to say it is "lumpy clump".  I don't know, maybe it is the texture or simply the fact that i find it a bit boring.  How do you guys eat your cottage cheese?  Plain, with honey, marmalade...???

Tonight, it was very difficult for me to NOT eat anything after 9 p.m. I was practically begging my DH to give me chips but thank goodness he didn't.  He knows how hard i've been working on being healthy and he's a drill sergeant when it comes to controlling my cravings.  So i've been drinking water and using the restroom a lot! Wink

Good luck to everyone and control  your night time cravings!!!!

Creamy yumminess

Cottage cheese is good plain or with mandarin oranges, otherwise I'lll pass.

#277 karenie Jun 03 2008 02:34
smooth and creamy  My favorite brand is Knudson.  It is as runny.  Not as lumpy.  I tried lucern...blech.....tried Producers.......Blech

I use cottage cheese in smoothies
  • non fat milk
  • 1/3 c low fat cottage cheese
  • frozen fruit of choice
  • dash of vanilla
  • sugar substitute of choice
#278 mollymouser Jun 03 2008 02:48

I eat cottage cheese every day for lunch ... with cherry tomatoes and salsa.

(It's still gloopy stucco, lol!)

As I sit here and munch on my dinner, I am musing about my Monday. Dinner, by the way, was a scrumptious turkey-spinach-feta burger (made by my neighbor) which I had on a toasted Thomas light multigrain english muffin, accompanied by asparagus and a cucumber-tomato-radish-hearts of palm salad... for 504 calories total. It was rather nice to be gifted with a turkey burger this afternoon -- leftovers from their family gathering the evening before!

I biked 12.2 miles this morning, before it got waaaaay tooo hot. I actually biked to a girlfriend's house, had an ice tea and chatted on the cell phone with my wonderful DH who called from Iraq, then I biked home. By the time I got home I was starving and hot (with low blood sugar), so I grabbed lunch QUICKLY! (And I snuck 5 of my wonderful DH's yogurt-covered cashews. I figure if I'm going to have low blood sugar, have something decadent to bring it back up, lol!)  Anyway, most of my conversation with Ron concerned the back yard and fence and tree issue -- I'd sent him photos of my mess!

I am so proud of myself for going to Trader Joe's today with a list and ONLY buying one thing not on my list! (Which is pretty miraculous, actually!) Anyway, I bought a package of snow pea pods -- they just looked really yummy and summery. Otherwise I was good and didn't shop "off list!" That was my only errand for the day -- other than biking all over town, of course.  Later this week I will go shopping with my neighbor for kitten supplies (they are the ones who've adopted Pecan ... now being called Abby the Tabby.)

It's 6:45 here and the gardener/men are still working in my hot and dusty yard. I am so glad we decided to just hire them to do all this messy, back-breaking work.  I've been snapping a few photos so I can email them to my hubby ... this way he won't feel like he's missed anything, you know?  Once the new fence is installed (later this summer), I want to install new lattice and then plant some new bushes over there in the corner of our yard. But for now, I am just hoping that they will get everything done and cleaned up before it's too dark. They looked thirsty so I already took them out beverages once ... and was thinking about taking them snacks in a few minutes.

Our local elections are tomorrow, with a number of races hotly contested. I've always been interested in politics/government -- all the moreso after working for our City for 5 years as a Deputy City Attorney III.  We have 11 candidates running for mayor, and the candidate I've supported is not expected to make the run-off... but another candidate I am willing to support should ... we'll just see.  I've volunteered to drive people to the polls in my neighborhood if anyone needs a ride ... so will wait to see if I get a call tomorrow to do that.  I don't need to go myself -- we voted absentee in early May, right before Ron left for summer camp.

I thought about biking after dinner ... but it's still 88 degrees out there and that's just too hot for me!

Funny because I have thought long and hard about this question all day, sad I know. The delima is I do like cottage cheese, but the texture does take a bit to get used to. But if I had to call it two words then chunky lumpy.  Growing up we used to call the ceiling stuff cottage cheese, so maybe I could call cottage cheese chunky ceiling stuff! I believe that ceiling cottage cheese had asbestos in it- hmmm, you think it's related? heehee

#280 mollymouser Jun 03 2008 06:41

I did go biking after dinner (3 miles) ... so I biked 15 miles Monday!!!!
