140/130 club timbergrove
  Jul 06 2006 17:39
Anyone in this grouping looking to drop from 140 to 130's.  We can all use support.  Today I am focusing on all the food groups.  Exercise would be good, but I won't be able to since I am working from 9 to 10:30.  A Super long day.  I hope I can stay focused, when I pass the fast food chaines on my travels today.

I am 137 trying to find my way down to 120...I'm barely 5'1" and my third child was born 7 months ago. I was 150'2-160's all thru highschool and after my first child went down to  around 140-145 then after my second I got down to 120...I was happiest at 125 where I stayed until I got pregnant by surprise with my third. I gained 25 pounds with this child and am stuck at 137. I can't find time to actually excercise although I am very active with kids and work...so I have been trying to watch calories... everytime I see the scale or the mirror it discourages me and I feel like I will be stuck with this extra 10-15 pounds. Anyone have any motivating ideas?!

to jennypenny25: thanks for the encouragement, you're right, i have been doing a lot of resistance training and my pants DO feel looser from a week ago, so that is good.

to sreeves8: it sounds like you are convincing yourself that you have no time. try doing squats when you have a few minutes free or doing push-ups against the wall or tricep dips on a chair or maybe use 30 min before bed to do some cardio. another suggestion is to wake up a bit earlier. I wake up at 5:30 and know that it is really hard to motivate at that hour (or earlier), especially when you dont' get enough sleep to begin with, but maybe you could pop a work-out video into the VCR or do some calisthentics (get a book that shows you some ideas). I walk to work instead of taking the subway, and that's a half hour of exercise right there. I've found the best way to find time is just to tell yourself that you have no other choice. Force yourself to make changes, because in the end, won't you feel better that you sacrificed a half an hour of extra sleep in order to exercise and take some alone time? you probably have a lot of demands on your time from other people, but make sure to remind yourself that those people will be just fine, even if they are slightly inconvenienced by your new healthy habits - they will adjust just as you will.

You're welcome, Its2011! Another suggestion for busy people: Get a dog!! My husband and I both work crazy schedules, and it's hard for me to find time to work out (or to spend time with him). But the dog makes it happen, because she needs to be walked every day. So every morning (including weekends), we get up early and walk the dog at a brisk pace all the way to the neighborhood coffee shop and back. It takes about an hour, so it burns more than 100 calories right off the bat, plus it's the best of all possible worlds: My husband gets his coffee, I get my cup of hot green tea (no sugar, no milk, just 3 calories a cup), the dog gets her walk and we all get to spend some quality time together. It's easier to get up when you have all those things to look forward to (at least in my experience). Just an idea; won't work for everyone, but hopefully helpful to some...

I'm 142 and working my way to 125/120. I'm 5'4" and I am a full time college student and I work part time so it's hard to fit in a workout, but that is my resolution. I would love to reach my goal by the end of the semester in May and I know I can do it with a little support.

funny as it seems... just putting in what you eat here and watching the calories add up helps you to know your limits. I was skeptical and granted it's only been 4 days but cutting calories doesn't really feel like deprivation - it just feels like remembering how we are supposed to eat and to control portions! Now if only I feel like this next month and the month after.

HOWEVER, those cravings persist! I got a nasty email from my ex-husband this morning and I wanted to go eat! And I'm thinking about how a nice sweet, strong martini would ease the stress at the end of the day. But instead I'll have my H2O now to curb the unnecessary craving and a 1/2 glass of wine tonight to celebrate having divorced this guy! Plus it helps that my hubbie is being so supportive and always enourages me to ignore the ex.

Hey - a tip! My husband told me that for every lost lb. you must burn 3500 calories. I plan to have that 3500 total at the end of 10 days which means 350 less calories eaten than burned per day. All these tools and calculations are a nice distraction to keep us away from the fridge!

I know I haven't lost a lb. but I already feel better not eating so much.

Can I join the club? Right now I am 5'4, 145 lbs. I'm trying to get down to 130 (and maybe a bit further, but 130 is goal #1). I'm a 25 year old femme fatale from Atlantic Canada.

welcome jamie and best of luck! You can do it - this is a great website & resource. I find that just bein accountable to log your food helps a lot and you see the immediate benefit (calorie burn) in exercise!

Thanks jenniferdiane! I agree. I've only been on the site 3 days now but I'm noticing a difference in how I approach food!

I've never joined a discussion board, but reading all of this has really been motivating, so I'd like to join, too.  I've been around 142 (read: 141 - 146) for years now - healthy at 5'5" but on the upper end of healthy when I'd rather be at the lower end.  I've made 132 my short term goal.  I'm getting married in September, and I'd love to be in the 20s by then.

My fiance and I used to fight about my weight / habits, which was an utter de-motivator, but I've made a resolution to take more time for things that make ME feel good - and that includes working up a good sweat a few times per week.

A major motivator I've found recently (besides this site!) is joining a new gym.  I joined Equinox and just can't get there often enough - the luxurious locker room and kick-butt instructors have energized me and lure me back day after day.  Good luck to all!

yeah, 143 to 130 by April. I think I can do it!
#271 jenniferdiane Jan 17 2007 01:16
tteaford - I am hoping by "fighting with your fiance" you meant that he gave you a hard for being hard on yourself. I am hoping that he supports adn loves you no matter what you weigh!!  Yes, we need to do this for ourselves. Of course our mates prefer us to be at our best - it would be a lie to think otherwise, but we will falter, all of us and we need to know we're loved no matter what!!! Ok, I'll get off of my soapbox.

Crazy - you can do it. We all can!

Having said that... I fell off the wagon lst night. Man those darn cravings! We had company for the golden globe awards and I put out the munchies. Had 2 glasses of red wine and was loose enough to munch away. I wouldn't call it a binge but I probably had 200 calories I did not need (on top of the wine!)

Today, I was more disciplined, made it to the gym and am feeling better. Tomorrow is my weigh-in. Yikes!

Hey all checking in, I'm 144 and 5lbs away from maintenance.
#273 jenniferdiane Jan 17 2007 01:43
wow! terrific Canadian - I clicked your profile... 75 lbs.! Amazing! Good for you!
#274 tteaford Jan 17 2007 01:49
Hi Jeniferdiane...actually it's more like his last gfs were marathon runners and aerobics instructors, and I - while relatively active - was quite content having a steak and red wine dinner.  I know he just wants me to be healthy and attractive for decades to come, but he definitely went about communicating that in the wrong way.  It's all water under the bridge now - esp. now that I have rediscovered my inner health guru.

Congrats to all of you who have made progress on your goals - keep up the good work and I'll let you know how I'm doing, too!
#275 jenniferdiane Jan 17 2007 13:14
tteaford - I understand completely. It was the same with my husband. He dated this girl that taught a spinning class and another that trained with him for marathons. He is so physically fit I don't think his physique could get any better. To make matters worse - if he doesn't constantly eat large meals he LOSES weight! Talk about pressure! But I set the record straight early on. I said "Not only will I never teach a spinning class, I'll never even take one, nor will I run more than down the driveway to grab a runaway child." I do exercise regularly but he knows I'm never looking to be a hard-body!

Having said that - I want to fit into my small size 6 pink sundress by the time we leave for Vegas in May!!!! I am now very comfortable in my 8's. Weigh-in this morning. I've only been at this a week - will keep you all posted!
#276 jenniferdiane Jan 17 2007 17:53
ok - I did it... the next step in this process. Having to look at the real difference in my body over the last 2 1/2 years. I've posted pics on my profile. Sorry for the blurred-out face... you know how it is! You will see where I went my after pics to be... just the way they were in 2004!

This is great! I went from being 5'6" and 150 at the heaviest, to 140 and I'm at 135 now...Keep it up everyone :)
#278 mcrouch Jan 18 2007 13:27
Betamonkey- I am also 5'4" and looking to get to my goal weight of 120. I am currently 130, so 10 to go. My heaviest was @ 150 several years ago, and since I have been in the 130s. I have finally gotten to 130, as I hovered at 135-137 for some time.

Thanks for the motivation everyone on this post!
#279 dharma_bum Jan 18 2007 13:50
I've been hovering between 137 and 142, for what seems like ever, it's so frustrating ( as only the last 10 can be).
#280 tteaford Jan 18 2007 14:06
Okay, so I'm having my first bad day since I started this a week ago.  I've been working out like a madwoman (about an hour of cardio per day for 5 days this week) and limiting my calories to 1500 - except for 1 day that I "slipped" and went up to 1700.  The scale has actually gone UP (!) about a pound and a half - and I'm not doing enough weight training for that to be muscle mass.

Anyone know the science for how long it takes for new behavior to show up on the body?  I was annoyed yesterday when I remained at 143.5 for 2 days in a row but nearly cried this morning when it read 144.

Help - I'm REALLY trying not to throw in the towel because I know of no better way to accomplish my goal than what I'm doing now.  Any advice??  Oh - and I've been invited to a work lunch and cocktails this evening to celebrate a friend's engagement.  I don't want to derail my hard work with restaurant food and wine...ARGH!
