I'll be 43 this June anyone around the same age want to join my weight loss quest?

Quote  |  Reply

Greetings!

I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

What a relief that must be!  Congrats, you should celebrate the good results (not necessarily with food though *grin*) :)

What a scare! Glad things are ok for you, my lungs feel a little bit more flexible this morning so I hope that I am on the mend as well. Maybe we will all be in good condition for spring! I actually feel like moving this morning. Well since it is Friday so here goes....

Maybe we will have to add an end of the month tally next month. We can calculate how much we lost for the month not just the week. What do you all think? It has been fun to see 10 lbs or more lost by the group even if I didn't lose that week, it will be really cool if we can get the group to a total of 50 lbs lost or some other milestone. It is exciting to see it add up, glad everyone has had a pretty good week. cynthb I am betting that you are seeing some muscle weight gain there not just bad weight gain (important to remember that there is good weight gain).

Thanks :) I know that worked muscles retain water too, so I'm not too worried about a short-term blip upwards because I know what I'm doing is healthy for me.

I think a month tally would be great :) I think it would help, even for those of us losing maybe 2 lbs a month. I lost the first 30 last year at that rate, and it looks like that's the rate that my body can manage long-term.

Thanks Sandy/Cynthia...you know I am sure that I over-reacted, but given the situation with my dad, it really struck a nerve and I was totally stressed for a couple of days. Looking back, it was goofy as there were no real signs of a problem, just more precautionary, but it wasn't funny when I was waiting for the results.

Hi there! Wow! i started reading this thread, and its huge! I don't know if you have room for one more, but i'm kinda new to this site, and find i could relate alot to what many of you were saying on this thread.

I"m 150 lbs, but have been stuck there for 5 years up and down to 160, and 5'6". I'm far from healthy and happy. I'd like to be a healthy weight, around 130lbs i'm guessing for my height. I'm 38, and physically feel like a 60 year old. Frown

I have Arthritic knees, and Endometriosis, and feel I'm headed for serious weight gain as I age... i like to work out but can only do that maybe twice a week... last time i was consistently exercising 4 days / wk, I blew out my knee and was stuck walking with a cane for 8 months (in 2006) so I gained back 15 poundsthat took a year to lose. I can't afford a new wardrobe, so the weight has got to go, not to mention the more weight i carry, the more my knees hurt.
I can over eat just about anything, even and especially healthy food, as i eat to de-stress, an emotional eater.

i'm looking for a motivating group and i really like what i've read in this thread. I hope that i can join in with chatting with your group! Smile

Hey Y'all!

Do you mind a late comer?

I have been on the fight for loss now for over a year but with breaks in between. I started at 265 lbs. I now weigh 227 and actually was 216 but I fell off the wagon for the month of march as I was busy and eating lousy! So, here I am again trying to get under 200 lbs. and I need to do it pretty quickly if I want to go to my 25th reunion! I am 42 years old and have some health issues that make it hard to work out. (bad back) However I do try to do what I can, and hopefully with some support, I will do better! Thanks for reading this and hope to hear from you soon!

I think that I can speak for the group here when I say that we love all newcomers, we just wish a few oldtimers checked in more...HINT HINT...

Let's see, gweneviere - I went through ALOT of health issues for a couple of years that sidelined my activity level and am just this past year really recovering from it so I know what you have to deal with. Stick with it, every little bit of exercise and every healthy food choice is worth the effort and will help you in the long run.

megclifton - you lost 50 lbs and you still hesitate about going to the reunion. Celebrate the you you are now hon! That is great and you should be feeling better & prouder about it!! Heck we all have further to go and I don't think that I'll ever stop saying that I am only a work in progress. You'll probably be surprised at the number of former classmates who have had similar struggles.

But hey, I'm just feeling better today & I think my personal perkiness level is a bit off the charts (I can breathe-YEAH). So sorry if I ramble but hey the more the merrier and this group has had struggles but always has come back to being merry!! If I don't check back later I hope you all have a good weekend!

I'M HERE!!!!! Sorry you all felt deserted. I was with you in spirit. Laughing

Welcome Meg, Gwen, Brenda!

Sandy, I hope you're feeling better. The sinus thing is going around here too.

Terry, Wow. Talk about incredible stress. Fantastic your xray's turned out OK.

So sorry to leave you all hanging. I went away for a couple of days with hubby to the mountains. Like I'm not sick of the winter weather, I had to go north where the snow is covering the first floor windows on homes. Anyway, I'm back and no damage was done with the scale. I did loose 2 lbs. Don't know how it happened b/c North Conway is loaded with bars and pubs. If you're not skiing, then you're eating and drinking. We were the latter!

I was lucky to sneak by with a loss this week. But I know that good luck can't last. So, I am back on track. Or, wait, could it be....I'm turning in to a lean, mean fat burning machine??? LOL.........

Hi and welcome gweneviere and megclifton!  We're all a little slower than in our twenties I think, at least I sure am, but we try hard and hopefully we'll have something to show for it :)

Terry - sorry about your scare! What a relief you are ok and it was only a scare!

Welcome to the newcomers. Sorry, I'm terrible with names!

As for news about me, I'm having a scare myself. I have a GI bleed someplace. Have to go Monday to a GI dr and probably go for a colonoscopy! Thought I had yrs to go b4 I had to conquer that hurdle! So I'm battling with this abdominal pain and wish it would just go away!

Hope everyone keeps posting. There for a while noone was here! I felt lonesome! lol  Glad to see everyone posting again. :)

Have a nice weekend......there's NO snow here!!!! LOL

Momof2........I am so sorry your going through this. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck. Marie

That's terrible Tammy, I really hope it's nothing serious for you.  I'll be thinking of you Monday.  Best of luck with your tests.

cynthia and marie - thank you. just popped in to say hi and I'm hanging in there. Just going to crawl in bed today and stay put. Leaving everything to hubby today!

Enjoy your day everyone! :)

I had a couple of rough years recently, ended up in the hospital 3 times in 12 months (heck they never keep you overnight anymore and I had to stay everytime..). The worst part of the colonoscopy is drinking the stuff you have to drink (it is a bad experience), when you go to the pharmacy to get your "cocktail" ask them if there is a flavor to it or if they have a flavor additive that you can add (they let me add an orange powder and it was a little better that way, my husband prefers his straight...ick). When they knock you out (sort of) you will not remember anything and chances are you will not feel BAD either, it took me an hour and a half to convince my husband that they had done it and we were going home! Trust me, these tests have a bad rep but if you can get through the drinking part I have yet to hear from anyone who thinks that was not the worst. Oh and if you cannot drink it all drink as much as you absolutely can, I could not finish the last one and ended up throwing up at that point (too much fluid) but they said that that is not abnormal so don't push it to where you make yourself sick just drink as much as you absolutely can.

By the by, all my family members felt good enough afterward that they wanted to go eat when they woke up (myself included).

Glad your hubby is there to handle things for you! Isn't it strange how we go through the medical crap heavily for awhile and then things usually straighten out and we go back to normal for awhile. I hope we have you back up and normal before the spring really arrives. Let us know what they find when you can will you, I think we are all going to be concerned till we know you are ok.

LaughingThinking of you!

Good morning - do you guys still remember me?

It is funny, the last thing I wrote a few weeks ago was for words of encouragement...then I didn't even read the replies.  For those of you who replied...thank you!

I haven't been on the site...watching my food...exercising...or anything else I was doing to lose weight.

I had some major stresses at work and with my 14 year old stepson...so it was a good excuse to be an idiot.

The fallout of my actions puts me back at 184.  Good news it, that is only a couple of pounds to have gained.  I still have until Friday to knock it back a little.

I was looking at pictures from 8 years ago this weekend and almost cried.  I miss that girl...she smiled a lot and felt comfortable in her own skin.  I want to be her again...

Tammie
