Welcome Koala Red.  You will fit right in here.  Sometimes personalize replies and sometimes not.  It's fun just reading the blurbs.  Ro is VERY funny and Betty is very helpful.  It's also helpful just knowing you're not alone - and that sometimes, we all have a bad day.  But in the words of Scarlet ...Tomorrow is another day!

And for all the mistakes I made last week, I still lost 2 pounds.  Just think what I can do if I actually exercise!  Carla

OK, y'all....

Losing 25.6 pounds has been awesome... but it really honestly used to help keep me warm!  I miss being the thickness of a polar bear on these 10 degree days!!!!   Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!  I'm going to go shopping at Kohl's for an old-lady coat (you know, the kind your old 3rd grade teacher wore) that will keep me warm.  I want it down to my ankles! Either that or I'm going to have to look into longhandles! ... Ro

I just finished ordering some stuff called "Mesoderm" off of the MyDietSolutions.com website.  It's supposed to help break down the fat deposits underneath the skin and smooth the appearance.  I have a squirrel pouch under my chin that I'm going to attack LOL!!  I used to work for a plastic surgeon and she had some stuff that is almost the exact same thing as I ordered... we used it on a lot of our patients and it worked really well.  I didn't want to look into it until I had made some good weightloss progress.  My pouch looks kinda empty and saggy.  Will let ya'll know what it does!!!................  RO

Hi everyone, Welcome new people I can't keep up, hope you all are staying warm, kinda cold here and snowing.  Thanks Carla for the complement and congrats on the loss, and thanks RO for the web site info, I checked it out a little, been so busy with work lately no extra time so I just stopped at the local health food store to pick up a small container of protein shake mix so I can start right away and will surf the sites when I have more time.  I did find another good site that has some other energy stuff you might like to check out, again I just took a quick look... www.energyfirst.com

Oh today I ate a very little for breakfast and found myself at the grocery store at lunch ughhhhhh but I was good, I bought Special K protein chocolate peanut butter meal bars... (ate it while I was shopping) it was SO good and really did make me feel full for a long time, I had a snack at 3:30 when I got home and only because I know I need to, not so much due to being hungry.  They would help with a chocolate craving too.  At 180 calories they wouldn't be a good snack and they are meant for a meal but they have a 110 calorie snack one too.

Oh and Ro I Hope you are NOT getting an old lady coat, you are a NEW women now and deserve a savvy LONG coat... maybe leopard hmmmmmm..  Well have a great day everyone.  Betty

Hi to all the new folks, and boy am I glad to be back, I've been sick with a nasty cold since last Friday and have been sleeping a whole lot. Betty, Liz and Mamafred, thanks so much for your good wishes. Ro, AN OLD LADY'S COAT, PLEASE. I'm with Betty, you're a new woman, stop thinking old or else. LOL P.S. Great Job on losing that 25.6 lbs.

Well, the good thing about sleeping, is you don't eat too much and I stayed well under my 1400 calories for the last 4 or 5 days. Didn't leave much on my plate, cuz I didn't eat very much. As of today, I'm back up to my water drinking goal. Though, no exercise, something comes up that I can't go, its just so disheartening. I still have the remenants of sickness, but I'm going to try for tomorrow and basically start where I left off.... at the beginning.

In reading the articles that people have posted, I have found some really informative stuff. Thanks bunches.

Anybody heard from nanamoss? I read about her son having a spinal injury from a car accident in her journal?

Carla, too cool for you... 2lbs is a motivating, isn't it? Well, that's all for now. I'm usually a morning writer. I'll yap at you all soon. Theresa

Good Morning all, No Theresa I haven't heard from Nanamoss.  But she did say she would be gone for a bit.

FYI did you all know when you go on the treadmill if you hang on even with one hand you are burning less calories than it says? sooooo better to do a lower speed/incline and not hang on than to do the faster one you need to hang on with.

Did a great workout this morning both the treadmill and bowflex and I am up to 150 sit-ups.  Started my protein drinks also.  Left a little of my pork chops, rice and broccoli from dinner on my plate, put it in a container with more for my lunch today.  Have a great day everyone.  Betty

Been at it a week and a half.  Glad to find other middle agers.  Would love to lose about 70 lbs. but realism says 40 would be great.  I have lost 10lbs but it is a lot harder then I remember.  Willing to encourage and listen anytime.  Good Luck

OK... beings that everyone's going to beat me up if I get an Old Lady's Coat... I guess I'll just have to wear what I got.  They DO make long cold-weather Under Armor though, so I might check into that.

Errrrr... BTW.... found out why it was so cold in our house (well at least part of the problem, the other problem is the shabby insulation LOL).  I had the filter in upside down on the furnace................. how embarassing!

Nothing wrong with a good pair of thermal underwear, especially now that we have all lost some weight.  We can put them on and our old clothes won't be too tight over them.  While I was sitting at my desk today, there was about a 2" gap between by pants and my socks, so on my lunch hour, I went out and bought a pair of fuzzy kneesocks.  I haven't worn socks like that in 25 years.  Man did they feel good!  I did look a little like Nanny on the Muppet Babies cartoon, but I was warm.

Hi Ladies (& gentlemen if there are any)

I posted this in the Lounge forum but I thought you all should know about it too. I got an email about what is happening to women everywhere. It's important for us all to be aware.

WARNING FOR WOMEN:

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves.  Well, this kind of cruel theft is happening with other body parts as well!  My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago.  I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs    It was just that quick.

The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal.  Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine?  I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs.  Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans.

Then the thieves struck again.  My butt was next.  I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier.

But my new butt  was attached at least three inches lower than my original!  I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.

Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arms swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush.  This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time     What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story.  Women of the world wake up and smell the coffee!  Those "plastic" surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts stolen from you and me!  The next time someone you know has something "lifted", look again - was it lifted from you?

THIS IS NOT A HOAX.

This is happening to women everywhere every night.

WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my breasts.  I was lying in bed and they were gone!  But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept.  Now I keep them safely hidden in my waistband.

Good Morning all, welcome Kcran, I added you as a buddy you are welcome to do the same.  Ro we didn't say you couldn't buy a coat just not an old lady one!!!!!! And I would say with your recent loss you deserve a new one.   Koalared love the post.

Didn't leave a thing on my plate last night but did leave half my soup at lunch because my mouth hurt from the dentist, I think that would be why I didn't leave anything at dinner I was starving!!  but I took a very reasonable portion.  Have a good day all. Betty

Good Morning All!  Kcran, that's very funny - I hadn't realized what's been going on all these years!  Ro, around here, we wear "silkies" that are simialr to underarmour but much cheaper and much slimmer than long johns.  You can get them at JC Penney or even Wal Mart.  Betty, I have been leaving things on my plate -that is so hard for me!  Can you explain the buddy thing to me?  What purpose does it serve?  I stopped entering things in my journal because I started posting things here - don't have time for both!  Can you talk back and forth through your buddy - see each others logs or what?  I don't know how to add buddies to my account or become a buddy to someone else!  But I really enjoy the girls on this forum.  You're all a hoot!  Carla
Hi Carla, the buddy is well a friend that you can add if you were to go over my photo and click it brings you to my bio then at the top right you can add me as a buddy and then YES I can read your journals and you can read mine if you are my buddy which I think you are if not I will add you.  You can't send messages back and forth any easier than this forum or going to the send message part below your name just the journals I think...and I agree you can spend a lot of time reading and writing here you have to have a limit of some sorts but I do like the journaling it keeps me accountable and lets me vent if I need to.  Good for you leaving some food, it is hard for me too.  Betty

Hi all.  Koalared your post is hilarious!  I copied/pasted it into an email and sent it to friends and co-workers.  Everyone is getting a bang out of it.

I have got to tell everyone that I am sitting here at my desk, very comfortably, in a pair of pants that, only a month ago, I couldn't sit or breathe in without risking permanent injury.  It is always a happy occasion to see the numbers on the bathroom scale go down, but the real joy is fitting into a piece of clothing that I had lost all hope of ever wearing again.  Cheryl

Hi everyone-just wanted to pop in and update everyone on my son--But first-Thank you for your kind comments in my journal and prayers you've offered on behalf of him and my family.

My son just turned 16 on Jan 14th.  We were going to celebrate his birthday on Saturday the 19th.  He had invited all of his friends and class mates over to our place for pizza, chips, dip, cake and ice cream and movie.  Then about 10 of his friends (all boys) were going to sleep over.  Well as I was doing laundry and getting ready for the evenings festivities my son was trying to imitate a stunt man.   He took his snow mobile and "landed a jump" from the harbour (all frozen) across the lower road and landed in the middle of an empty lot.  He was airborne 75 feet.  When he landed the jolt was so terrific it caused a compression fracture  of the 8th vertabrae of his spinal column, along with a hairline crack running along the front of this same vertrabrae.

Terry-my son- was taken by ambulance to the closest hospital (1.5 hrs away) and admitted.  He was / has been in a great deal of pain but is showing steady improvement every day.  He will be fitted with a brace on Monday and if he tolerates the brace and isn't in a great deal of pain he will be released on Wednesday, Jan 30th.

I know things could have been so much worse and I am soo thankful God watched over him and kept him from killing himself or someone else.  When my motherly mind thinks of all the what if's I just shudder.

Anyway, I am back to work today-thus updating everyone and I'll keep checking in through out today. Tomorrow I will return to the hospital and wont be back online until sometime after Wednesday.

Congrats on the loss Ro! And welcome to all the newbies.  You've got great ladies here who are a wonderful support system.

And Ro come up and visit me sometime-this morning we hit -29 c on the mercury or 20 degrees BELOW 0 f.  Brrrrr welcome to the deep freeze.  LOL.

Take care everyone and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Nana, I know you won't be back till Wednesday, but thanks so much for the update. I am very happy that things are going to turn out ok, and stop thinking about those what ifs, it will drive you crazy. You and Terry are in my thoughts and I wish you both the best.

Well, I think I'm much better today and will attempt some excercise tomorrow. Nothing too tough, just something to get back into the swing of things. I'll see how that goes and take it from there.

Betty, I've stopped the leaving something on my plate challenge because....drum roll please... I believe I've learned my portioning because of doing this. While I was sick, I slept mostley and didn't make it over 1200 calories for about 3 days straight. (silly me, I always filled in my calories, lest I forget)

I gained a lb, but I'm not unhappy with that. I'll lose it next week, I hope..

Great post koalared, geez, I'm still grinning. Cheryl, congrat on the loss, still waiting for that day, but great for you. Take care all. Theresa

Hi everyone...   Nana -  I'm so glad to hear he is ok.  I, too, gave my mother a scare at age 12.  I fell from a tree over 40 feet high.  I landed on my feet in a muddy ditch.  This compressed my spine, chipping the corners off 3 vertabrae.  I only spent 5 days in the hospital but wore a back brace for 4 months.  Luckily I hit that ditch and not the dirt road or I would have been paralyzed.  It was a long, slow recovery all summer long, but I made it.  And medicine and therapy have come a long way since then.  (My mom stuck me in a tub of Epsom Salt and said I'd be fine - it was my aunt that talked her into taking me to the hospital!) I will keep your family in my prayers - and add you to my buddy list now that i know how - thanks Betty  Good job Cheryl!  I have lost a total of 13 pounds in 2.5 weeks - I am almost back to where I was 2 years ago - 6 more pounds - but hope to surpass that!  Anyway, my pants feel a lot better!  Have a great, healthy weekend everyone!  Carla

I'm 53 with 20-25 pounds to lose.  Mid-life junk, for sure; I eat well, exercise regularly, and it's not enough.  I just discovered some records from 1997 that my waist was 4" smaller.  I really haven't gained any weight, but it sure redistributed when I wasn't paying attention!  (Oh, yeah, now I remember...I was busy raising 2 teenagers, half the family died, and we got hammered by 3 hurricanes in one year)  Well, the kids are nearly grown, the house has been put back together for awhile & I just realized I've gone completely soft.

Good morning everyone, welcome Diane.  It has been a very busy week for me.  I know you hear all over the media that real estate is awful... I have been soooooo busy this month so no complaints here were that is concerned.  The bad thing is I have had little time to do for me and concentrate on my goals.  I have gotten exercise in but not as much as I would like.  My goal this week was to up my time on the treadmill didn't do that and to add two more exercises to the bowflex didn't do that... In fact I had no time to exercise yesterday at all and I fear I do not today either.  I have an appointment at 10:00 and I am having a Lia Sophia party at 1:00 then I am sure I will be exhausted....I also looked back on my week and even though I did well for the most part with eating I am afraid I was maintaining mostly that is probable why I only lost .5lb.  (probable just water weight).  It  is very hard since I am at going into week four with no real loss.  Well I will try harder this coming week to work on my goals.

Theresa I am glad that portion control is getting better for you.  I will say I am better at it as well but not quite where I need to be so I will continue to work on that.

Carla, be careful of how much you are loosing a week I know it feels great but you don't want to loose too quickly, you don't want to go as slow as me lol but not so quick either.

Cheryl congrats on the loss and ability to wear those pants, way to go.....

Nana my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Have a good weekend everyone.  Betty

I just joined today.  I hope this place will be helpful and motivate me.  I'm 46 and trying to lose 20 to 25 pounds too.
