Hi Everyone...

I wanna join too.  I'm 5'5" and weighed 298 lbs. Have lost 20 lbs since February, was so happy with my 279.2 weigh in this morning, since I haven't been under 280 lbs in a while, have been playing around with those 20 lbs for so long now....so that was a great feeling.  Have 140 to go, but getting there...

You're all doing great.  Hope everyone is haveing a good Friday!
Welcome safantasia!

Great job!  I know that feeling - I have been playing around with 20 lbs for a while now too.  :)
Hi Safantasia and welcome.

I did my usual Friday weigh in and my scale is totally messed up.  It first said I lost 5 lbs (down from 244) then it said I gained 10 lbs.
Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a few days. How's my twin, Lorabear? Anyway, I went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday. He says I will need a total right hip replacement within 6 months (originally it was a year). He wants me to do a rapid weight loss of 50 lbs before the surgery. I'm going to contact my PCP to get a referral to a nutritionist so I can do this safely and wisely. Now, I really need your support!
clwhit - Hi twin! Sorry to hear about them wanting to do surgery so much sooner. I hope that a nutritionist can help you. 50 lbs is a lot to lose in that amount of time. I am here for you if you need me. Let us know what the nutritionist has to say. Maybe their advice can help us too. How is work going?

I am having a difficult time staying on plan and losing weight. I am trying to follow everyone's advise and helpful hints. I have a hard time exercising though. My knees and joint are really hurting.

Thank you mi-nyan for the encourgement! I love to hear sucess stories. My sister lost 100 lbs this year. She says she just started to drink lots of water, walked and ate healther.

What does everyone else do for exercise?

Welcome Safantasia!

Lora
Me too!   I want to join!

Brief story:  In April 2004... I was 5'8 and 343 pounds and 32 years old--I could only shop at Avenue and Catherine's because I needed size 30 jeans.  I got to the point when I wouldn't even look at myself in the mirror  (Put makeup on in a compact)... I was so ashamed.  I wouldn't go to a doctor... yet had serious female issues for more than two years straight.  I would go to a baseball game and be bruised from sitting in the seats.

I did a medically managed liquid diet including nutritional information and behavioral modifications.  Fast forward to December 2004...  178 pounds... wearing a size 10 most of the time.

Started online dating... changed my life.

February 2007... got married... but back up to 220 pounds

July 2007...  back up to 256 pounds... but I'm back DOWN to 236 again now... and I will NEVER go up again.  I'm a little obsessed right now... calorie counting like a fiend... working out an hour to an hour and a half every day... but I'd rather be obsessed like this than like I was... Oh my gosh... my daily food intake at 343 pounds was INSANE... It was like one of those bedridden people whose families bring them turkeys
Welcome tamarascholtz!

Congratulations on your dramatic weight loss and your marriage I hope all your dreams come true.

I am always afraid I will be where you were and be one of those bedridden people whose families bring them turkeys

Sounds like your back on track now and a little obession counting calorie and exercising seem to be OK.

Glad you found your way here.

Lora
Hi Lorabear...I find when I have a hard time with food that it helps to "commit" it to someone for the day. For instance, you could post it here on this thread or PM me or someone else for that day. I would let them know what I would be having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you include snacks in your plan then you would also include that. This gives me the accountability to stick with it. You'd repeat the same process each day.

As for exercise I, too, have a hard time because of my hip problem. I found that exercising in the water helps me. Recently, I joined our local country club to have access to a pool. YMCAs are another great resource for water activities. This past year, I completed 60 days of aquatic physical therapy. It helped me so much. So, I use the same exercises I did in PT now in the pool. The routine lasts an hour so it gives me a good workout. You might want to check in to this.

Hang in there! It does get better.
clwhit- Thanks for the advise twin. I will be leaving Sunday - Friday to go camping. When I get back I will get with you and try this.

I will look into water exercise. I know one of the schools in the area have a pool and they may offer an exercise program. I live in a rural area and not many choices.

There is a exercise program associated with the local hospital I have been thinking about joining. I have to look into it more.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Lora
I went to buy some pants yesterday and I fitted into a size 16! And not a stretch 16 a regular 16 I was so excited I haven't been a 16 in along time. I must be doing something right.
Oh my goodness buddies. I gained 5 lbs this week! I stuck with my plan, too, I swear. Last week, I lost 3 lbs. and was so encouraged that I was on the right track. This isn't something that going to make me go out and blow it but I do have to say I'm disappointed. Will keep up the good fight and take this one day at a time.
So, I was really bad yesterday with damn near everything I ate. Oh well, at least I knew I wasn't going to be good. Philadelphia is wonderful so far and the food is great. =)

I'm going to end up at least a few pounds up when I get back on Monday even if a lot of it will be water weight from extra sodium intake.

We're going to Atlantic city today to gamble. Wish me luck on winning some money at the casino.

Hope everyone is doing better than I am on their diets!!!
Rebei- Good luck in AC I would love to go there. Do worry too much just enjot yourselve.

Don't you hate that?   I just "changed my life" about six weeks ago (again!   but for real this time...)... so the way I look at it... you're not on a diet... ups and downs will happen... If you really followed plan and gained five pounds... I would say drink LOTS of water the next few days, and you'll probably shed it.  Nutritionists have told me that 8/ 8 oz glasses a day are meant only for those who are already at their weight.  The rest of us are supposed to drink half of our body weight in ounces (I'm 236 pounds, so I should be drinking 118 ounces of water a day.   I know it sounds daunting... but I managed to drink 170 oz when I was 340 pounds...  I told myself I had to drink ALL of my water before I could have a diet coke/ coffee... whatever... no drinks until I was done with water, and eventually, I stopped really wanting the other drinks.)

I've also found that stalls and yo yo's happen in the same places on the way DOWN as they happened on the way up!

It's likely nothing.  I've been surprised how much harder it is to lose any weight this time for me.  I stay between 1200-1400 calories a day...  workout HARD an hour to an hour and a half every day... and still it's just a pound a week.  But you know what works for me?  Taking pictures... I SCRUTINZE them... make sure I"m standing in the EXACT same place (I do wear nicer fitting clothes)...  and tear apart every inch... so when you look at yourself after a five pounds "gain" week... you may realize... "Everything is okay...   My clothes fit the same... I'm fine..." and you go back to a plan that you know is healthy.

Hang in there!   We have ALL been in situations where we're sure that scale HAS to be lying because we know when we're behaving.  If you keep doing the right thing, your body can't help but respond.
Tamara - you gave good advice. I agree with most everything you said. And water is a vital part to weight management. I drink an average of 144 oz a day. Sometimes I drink less, but other days I have had up to 196 ounces. At my weight, I should be drinking about 160 ounces per day. I also recommend that you throw and additional unsweetened green tea in there as well. I don't work out like you do, because of my health, but I'm trying to get a little bit of exercise in.
Hello everyone, I am new here. This is my first post and I am excited to here the support and friendly advise from everyone. I am needing some help with the best way to loose weight. I am due to loose some pounds and I am not a dieter. I have not tried all these diets on the market, but will if you have some advise on what works and what don't. I have read some posts and sounds like you all know what to do. Some loosing more then others, however what ever is healthy is my outlook.

Thanks
Hi Charity...

I think that something with which everyone here would agree is that there is no diet "out there."  If you "diet" and try to work toward a goal so that you can go back to eating the same way again... you'll be in the same place as you are now before you know it!

There's no "secret."  It's all that you have to expend more calories than you take in.

There are some "hints" to make it easier... Just a brief run-down... Be sure to eat a minimum of 1200-1500 calories a day.  Eat many small meals a day.  Drink as much water as you can.

Remember, it's a S    L   O   W process... but it's about changing your entire life... so no matter HOW long it takes... every single day you're healthier and better off than you were the day before...

Congratulations on your commitment... and good luck!
Tamara...thank you for the encouragement and ideas. I do drink between 120-180 oz of water a day, sometimes more. You are so right when you say we're not on a diet. I am looking at this as a lifestyle change. Will roll with this one putting one foot in front of the other to move forward.
I haven't posted much lately....they've cracked down on internet use at work....so

Anyways, not posting and reading this board has really hurt my weight loss! I gained a lb this week....but i have to remember that i weighed on a different scale at a different time of the day too (our at work WW meeting was cancelled so i went into a center on my lunch break to weigh in)

Wish me luck on re-losing that weight! Hopefully i can get in the habit of signing on in the evenings so that i can keep getting the great support you all provide!
