Well it's been a week or so since setting the goal to control my snacking. I managed some days better than others but have not stuck to my plan of scheduled snacks. It seems that whenever I put a certain number on things- I tend to rebel. I thought by planning controlled snacks, I would be less likely to snack mindlessly- that hasn't happend this week. Though I am more aware I continue with that behavior anyway.
For the last year or so I logged everything I ate and it was tremendously helpful to my weight loss. About a month ago I decided I wanted to attempt paying attention to what I ate without logging. It has actually gone pretty well- though at times I miss the ability to quickly look up what types of nutrients I'm getting. I'm wondering if perhaps I should try to be aware of my hunger versus trying to schedule my snacks. I just get a little concerned that I will stop paying attention and the weight will creep back on.
As for the QOD: people that I spend a lot of time with know that I'm trying to lose weight. (I've been at this for about a year and a half) Although I don't tell people I'm trying to lose many have noticed. I'm not big on attention and find this can be a bit uncomfortable though I appreciate their positive feedback. Have a good weekend All-Dianne
I usually resort to dropping the "D" word when people are trying to shove food down my throat (Italian family) and they won't take no for an answer!
I've been good so far this week. Tonight I have one my best friend's graduation parties to go to. But I will overcome temptation and not go over my calorie goal! If I didn't diet every time I had dinner w.friends, I would never lose any weight! This is a life change, not a diet. And it's going to be hard work, but it will be sooooooo worth it!
QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)
Do you eat different foods in the summer? (More salads? More fruit?)

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)
Do you eat different foods in the summer? (More salads? More fruit?)
Yes! As an avid cook and as part of my efforts to eat more clean, I am really trying to eat seasonally. So, for instance, all this Spring I've been loading up on strawberries. They are such awesome food anyway - sweet, juicy, yummy, low calorie and full of fiber and vitamins! I'll be sorry when their season has passed (which it basically has). Now stone fruits are showing up at the stores - nectarines and peaches, etc. I love those, too. Cantaloupe has also been prevalent lately.
This is the first year I've really paid a lot of attention to what's in season at the store and tried to eat that way. It's working great for now with all this great fruit, but we'll see what happens as we get to the end of summer and into Fall.
I would eat more salads and cool, light foods, except my Texas boyfriend wants big, heavy meals for dinner every night, regardless of the season, so I try to find a compromise. For instance, tonight we are having chicken fajitas. Lighter than some things, and each person can customize their servings, but still hearty enough for his big 'ol manly self.

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)

Yes, I definitely crave cool foods. Salads, fruit etc. I hate cooking in the summer, it's just too darn hot! Unfortunately other cool foods I crave are Popsicles and, shhhhh, ice cream! Evil, evil!
On the flip side, we just got back from a bike ride. Whew! Molly, I don't know how you do it! We rode 1 mile to Togo's, picked up sammies for the kids (I already used most of my calories at lunch), rode back 1 mile to the park by my house, the kids ate and played. Then we decided to check out another park about 1.5 miles down the road, but the 1.5 miles back felt like 5!! I'm pooped!
Question... how long until my legs get used to this?
I need some water!
I biked 11.5 miles today.
I ate edamame and tofu.
Now I better go drink more water, huh?
Like digigirl I'm trying to eat what's in season, particularly to our local season, that leaves fews options in the Northeast. Our strawberry season hasn't started yet but it will in the next few weeks. We ate our first salad from the garden yesterday. Ok so it was leaf lettuce with Balsamic vinegar- no other veggies in yet. Eating locally is very new to me and I still can't resist all of the produce shipped from CA. I decided to attempt this as I see the price of gas continuing to rise. We shall see...
Typically in summer we do a lot of grilling and rarely turn on the oven. I find it a lot easier in the summer to eat healthier and get more exercise.

It's Sunday evening, May 18, 2008 and I am kicking off my 75 Days of Summer Dieting Countdown ... and thought a 2.5 month motivational group would be just the thing to stay focused this summer...
hello again molly! just discovered this thread. i have been enjoying your other ones so i am definitely in!!
my may 19 weight was 95.2 kilos / 210 lbs (did not weigh on may 18), today my weight is 94 kilos / 207 lbs (i slipped during may, hence the very low loss), and i would love to be 85 kilos / 187 lbs by august 1.
also, losing about 5 kilos from current weight will put me to Overweight instead of Obese category, and i am looking forward to it very much.
what i want to accomplish during these 2 months:
- stick to my calorie plan
- offer support to fellow dieters
- eat enough vitamins and minerals
- walk at least 1 hour every day, and add more exercise as i go
- stay on track regarding the type of food i eat now and that makes me feel so good: almost no overprocessed food, lots of veg, fruit, yogurt and some tofu and cheese ("cheese in MODERATION", says to herself)
thanks again molly for the nice thread!!

What a great accomplishment and wonderful gift to yourself.
Wow Molly, you are an inspiration!
Ok, my official June 1 weigh in.... 178. Ok, here we go, it's all down the scale from here, right! All in moderation, that's the key! We can do it!!
Hi there! I just came across this thread today and it took me about two hours to read everyone's posts!!! It is really inspirational and I would love to join you all on this dedicated, difficult and brave journey.
Goals (which is very similar to everyone else's):
1. Drink ridiculous amounts of water everyday!!
2. Cardio 5x a week. Weights 2x a week. Stretch every day.
3. Log food intake! I'm so lazy when it comes to this!!
4. Eat clean. Try not to eat after 9:00 pm
5. Avoid the pastry shop as much as I can.
6. Be positive, breathe and live life to the fullest!!!

I'm also a big seasonal eater and definitely eat more fruit and veggies during the summer. Lots of berries...strawberries every other day.
Cucumber salad is also great with fresh, chopped up dill, olive oil, garlic powder and salt. Pair that with fresh salmon (I like to sear it slightly on both sides since I love raw salmon)
Melon with Parma ham.
What's Parma ham? (and welcome!)

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (MAY 31/JUNE 1)
Do you eat different foods in the summer? (More salads? More fruit?)
My food shopping for the week starts at the farmers market, so my diet changes with the seasons. I definitely eat more fruit in the summer, mostly because I get really tired of apples, bananas, and oranges by the end of winter. When the local fruits start showing up at the market, I get tons of them. (I think I might be seriously addicted to berries.) I also find that I eat more raw veggies in the summer, whereas in winter I'm all about steaming and roasting.
I don't know if my food tastes will change this year, because I'm starting to doubt whether summer is ever going to get here. Today is June 1, and we reached a high of 59 degrees. I know the sun is technically out there behind all of those clouds, but I haven't seen it lately.
Then I ventured outside in the backyard to take a look at the tree that needs to be trimmed/removed, plus all the old wooden lattice (covered with vines, mind you) that's attached to the fence that will be getting replaced. Next thing I know, I have trimmers in hand and the redwood deck is literally covered with four feet deep branches, leaves, vines, and I've managed to partially tear down 1/2 of 1/3 of the lattice. I am covered head to toe in dust and sweat, and (bummer) I've lost my absolute favoritest earring in the whole wide world. (sigh .... I ordered replacement pearl studs from Amazon.com a few minutes ago.) Anyway, while I was looking for my earring -- I saw/felt it pop off .... a ginormous rat scared the bejeezus outta me and I am proud to say that it's now a FORMER rat, having been vanquished with wild abandon by yours truly, wielding rodent-lethel tree trimmers.
I have a call into our gardener, so he can come over and give me an estimate for (1) cleaning up/hauling away my impressive mess; (2) taking down the rest of the lattice/vines; and (3) removing the infamous tree that started my afternoon
I didn't get in any biking today, but I am sure that all my window scrubbing and lattice demolition and tree trimming must have burned SOME calories, right??? Anyway, I was pretty happy to see the June 1 scale show 276.6 (95.4 LOST) ... now I just need to lose another 4.6 pounds so I will be at the 100 pounds lost mark, ya know? That's really what I'm focusing on .... I just need to stop retaining water and get past this plateau and get there!!!! My wonderful DH is sure that it will come, I just need to be patient.
MOLLY
Hi all, I know I am very late with this post update, but I've been on the go-go-go. So here I am to play catch up, and will have a lot of reading to do Monday afternoon.
Molly, Congrats on your weight loss. I got my toes, and finger's cross for your 4.6 pounds..Say bye-bye to it soon, because it's going.
Now to answer all the questions I've missed this week.
Thursday May 29. What have you done today to burn calories? Well, I weight train for 30 mins, and then I did some turbo jam later on that night. Love it
Friday May 30. Do you tell people when you are on a diet? I only tell the ones who will be supportive. The ones who are not. I can always pin point them out. So, I just don't tell those people.. I let them see for themself.
Saturday31-Sunday1. Do you eat different foods in the summer? Yes, I cut back on my meat for one. I really don't eat that much meat, but I do cut back on it. I eat more fruits, nuts, and Veggies. I try to get in 3 servings to 4 servings of each. That's how I keep my blood sugar in check. Eating lots of fruits.
Now my quick report.
I've been doing pretty good. I lost over 66 pounds, and I have just about 15 more to go.. The TTOM has came to visit for a second, so I know my weight will be up again. I was 161 friday morning, and then 160 this morning, and I have to do a weigh in on another thread in the morning. No big. I got this in the bag. I burn a lot of calories. Doing Turbo Jam twice, and working out to my own real music, and daning and cleaning the house later on. I got a lot of my weekend projects done, and we've been blessed with a lot of rain. My garden needs all the rain it can get. I've been a very busy girl. I'm trying to keep up with myself, and right now.. It's time to end this, and get into the bed. I got a busy day ahead of me again.
Keep it moving everyone. We are going to get this weight off come hell or high water..

What's Parma ham? (and welcome!)
Oooh, sorry...I realized I should have said prosciutto. My husband, who is German, always says parma ham and I kinda got used to saying it myself!!!
Catching up on questions of the day/weekend:
Do I tell people about my diet?
Yes, I pretty much tell everyone everything. I tell people my weight and body fat percentage (except my boyfriend, who does NOT need to know that I weigh more than him). I'm not really sure why, except that somehow being more open about it keeps me accountable. It's funny how often people ask me how I'm doing it and when I say eat a bit less, exercise a lot more, they get this look on their face like they are so disappointed. This seems to be common phenomenon.
Do I eat differently in the summer?
Well, I signed us up for a community supported agriculture program where we get a bunch of different locally grown produce every week, so we are definitely eating more seasonally, although our unseasonably cold May has meant that we keep getting winter greens. I'm really sick of kale and collard greens. If anyone has any recipe suggestions I would be quite grateful. I also find myself eating tons of strawberries and cherries now that they are in season.
My June starting weight is 169.4. I hope to lose at least two pounds this week since the week following my ttom is usually my best week for losing weight.
Have a great week everyone!
