100+ Pounds to Lose---we can do it!! Monday weigh ins. (start 1/7/08)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey Everyone,

Well, here is it, a new challenge for those looking to lose 100+ pounds.  I would like for everyone who is a first time poster to give a little introduction of themselves (include height, weight, age and anything else you would like)!

I'm hoping that this challenge can not only look at how we're doing in terms of numbers, but serve as a way to motivate eachother.  If you had an extremely challenging week, let us know.  If you found an awesome exercise or healthy snack food, let us know.  If you have anything, good or bad, that helped (or hurt) your weight loss (and overall health for the week), let us know!!

I'm figuring the weekly template can be something like:

Starting weight/date: XXXXX lbs XXXXXX (for me, 298 lbs 12/18/07)

Weight last weight in: XXXXXX lbs

Weight this week: XXXXXX lbs

and then list challenges, good, bad, etc. afterwards.

I would love to say I would do points and keep a tally, but honestly, I know it will be tough to keep up with everyone's TERRIFIC progress!! Hopefully we can all take a look at this and celebrate everyone's successes together.

Our first weigh in will be January 7, 2008.  Feel free to join whenever you like and give your introduction :-)

Let's do this together!!!

:-)

welcome swampdog40!  congrats on the elliptical, I've been wanting one for SO long but there is just not enough room in my apartment (poor college student and small housing lol)!  When I first started using one it was hard for me too because I had trouble adjusting to the foot movements... make sure you start with it set on level 1... my advice would also be to cover the numbers and lights and just watch TV or listen to music as you work out (it seems to go faster that way, lol)... if I watch the numbers I feel like it makes it seem so much harder to go for my full work-out!

A couple tidbits I have picked up...

Fiber is great (fills you up, keeps ya regular, etc)... Apples are good snacks (low cal, satisfying, cheap, easy to bring)... lean cuisine pizzas are a godsend for an Italian girl who misses pizza and pasta daily... 100 calorie packs are SUPER handy, but it's much cheaper to buy in bulk and package them out individually (make sure you do package out servings because otherwise its easy to cheat!)

Starting weight/date: 305 lbs (Sep 2007)

Weight last weight in: 258.5 lbs

Weight this week: 255.5 lbs

Loss this week:  3 lbs

Total loss:  49.5 lbs

Portioning is key for me.  If it's not available, I won't eat it.  Conversely, if it's in front of me, it will be eaten!  Portioning has been a good thing, even when I splurged at an Italian restaurant Saturday - I boxed half before I started and I was perfectly satisfied, whereas before I would've eaten the whole thing and been MISERABLE.  Congratulations to everyone on all the successes!  YEA, US!!!!

Original Post by groupiegirlnj:

sonini - I don't want to come off as a skeptic or judgemental, but 7 lbs is a LOT, especially for someone with their period...  I'm just worried because that's a really rapid weightloss and hope you are being safe and taking care of your body too!  I know we're all eager for the lbs to go off, and wish it was as easy as it was to pack them on, lol... But most dieticians and nutritionists will agree that after the initial water-weight drops, anything more than 1-3 lbs per week can be unhealthy.  I'm not playing parent, I promise!  Just trying to show some concern, that's all.

No worries, I appreciate the concern :)
I really think most of it was water weight though, since this is the first week I've been trying to watch what I eat. I do admit I was surprised as well, since it seems like most women have said they tend to hold onto their weight and sometimes even gain during their period... but I think I lost so much because I was soooo sick Friday and Saturday. When I said I hope I have a better week, I meant it more like I hope I feel better and can hopefully attribute any weight loss to diet/exercise as opposed to sickness/tom. lol

I do admit, if it was healthy, it would be nice to lose this much every week though...

Other than having a terrible sweet tooth that never gets cured, no real concerns.

Completely frustrated. Can't figure out why I can't lose anything. I've monitored my sodium, have been drinking 8-16 glasses of water everyday, have done cardio and strength training, sleep regularly...

and fauker absolutely the best news 3 lbs. Yeah!

Welcome to all of our new members of the group!  Glad that you are here.

Well, I hate to admit this, I gained about 3.8 pounds over the past week.  I have been celebrating my birthday with several people taking me out to dinner!  I have tried to be very careful about what I eat, but it's been tough convincing everyone to go out early and not at 9:00!!  I'm hoping by the end of this week I'll be in better shape!

Special days are for celebrating - and happy b-day too by the way!

You made memories you'll always have.  When I splurge I just tell myself that I didn't weigh 305 from having one special meal occasionally - it was like every day was a feast-fest!  But special occasions and bonding experiences once in a while are totally worth the temporary "stall" or "setback", don't you think?   Laughing

Hi, just joined the site and I love it.  I'm at 261 lb and initially would like to get to 168lb but "officially should be around 136lb so guess i qualify as needing to loose 100+ !   Love hearing all your motivational success stories some people are doing really well.  I'm from the UK but live in Spain and am happy for anyone to add me as a friend :)

mon 18/2 - 255lb lost 6lb this week

So true Tina---that's a good way to put it in perspective.  Other than the bday meals, I've been careful with everything else I'm eating and also making sure I don't go too crazy with the cruddy food.

It is MT (Melinda)

I have not weighed in since 1/28/08. I was ready to give up and I got an email that I was added as a friend. So I logged in to take a look. Wow, I am so proud of all of you. I have been re-motivated to get back on board. Thanks for sharing and welcome to all of those that have joined since 1/28. I am nervous about weighing I know I have gained but I promise to weigh in on Monday.

Being a stay at home mom by day and a college student at night I eat way to much fast food. I have picked up sweet tea and sodas again. I will have to get back on track with the water. I have continued to exercise some even though I was not counting calories.

I was weighing everyday and that was a emotional roller coaster for me. I am only going to weigh on Mondays this time. Another thing I did wrong was reward myself with food when I had a good weight lose. I started out with a small portion. Thinking that it would be okay and I could handle it but that was my food addiction decieving me. I am a food addict I can not stop with a small portion. Sure I can hold out for a while but if I give in a little it always leads to a lot in the near future. I most find other ways to reward myself and I most learn to plan my meals. Wow, I am usally the wordy.  Thanks to all and good luck on Monday's weigh in.

Monday morning comin' around again!  This week I got a flu bug and didn't eat much.  By Friday I was back to eating lots of pretty good foods and figured I'd regain it, but ate a lot yesterday too and was still just a half-lb up this morning from Saturday @ 251.5.  I have to blame this loss on the bug.  But during the week even though I felt sick I wanted to eat FOR COMFORT but I kept telling myself that I wouldn't eat just to try to feel better - that there would not be any comfort in eating food I couldn't taste and I had no emotional void that needed to be filled - with food or anything else.  The self-love (tough love this week) helped!

Challenges: All of Valentines day damn it. Grandmother dying triggered some emotional eating.

Hi everyone!  I'm new and am so glad I stumbled on this forum.  It seems that most everyone is doing well and working hard and I want to join in.  Take a look at my profile to learn more about me and messages are always welcome :)

So, I'm 26 years old, have been what they call obese pretty much all my life, and am now the heaviest I've been.  3 years ago I lost 50 pounds and I felt amazing and I would like to loose some weight to get back to feeling so healthy and fit.  I'm 5'6" tall, carry my weight in my belly mostly, and started out at 297.5 pounds.

Starting weight/date: 297.5 February 4, 2008

Weight last weight in: 296

Weight this week: 294

Challenges are mostly around staying focused on my goal.  I eat emotionally and addictively and so when cravings are intense and emotions are high it is tough to avoid a little high fat, high calorie instant gratification.  I'm trying to accept and learn from my mistakes and let them strengthen me rather than defeat me.

Good luck to you all!

Starting weight: 212.5 (at Calorie Count Plus)

Last weigh in: 215 lbs

This week weight: 214.5 lbs

Another 1/2 lb.  Not bad, considering that I went out for Mexican four times in the last week!  I did get more walking in, so I'm sure that helped.

emmakea:  Perhaps, you've retained some of the water that you've been drinking.  Sixteen glasses (especially if they're more than 8 oz.) is a lot!  I know they say that drinking more flushes out sodium-induced water retention, but if I drink lots, my weight still seems to go up.
