Hi Everyone ~ How's it going?

Sorry I've been MIA, long week, long (boring) story! I'll try to get everything updated soon :)

goldie
hey mommah what did you do to loose those 20 pounds in 7 weeks? just curious my first weight goal is to loose 20 pounds (60-80 more to go after that)

Lala,

The first thing I did was learn to regulate the number of carbs I was eating. Metformin has a nasty side effect when you have too many carbs or sugar in the beginning. Once I figured out a good carbs per day balance and how many calories I should be eating I started logging my food and working out 6 days a week using a 55/30 min rotation. IE Mon-55, Tue-30, Wed-55 etc. I use The Firm videos and track my progress using a Polar F11 heart rate monitor. I've also lost almost 2 inches from arms, abs and thighs.

Why I want to lose weight

Being diagnosed with type II diabetes opened my eyes to my choices. I could continue to whine about having pcos and doing nothing to help myself manage and allow this syndrome and it accompanying issues defeat me, or I could dig in and do my best to live a long and healthy life.

One of my goals is to be off of the metformin before summer 08. My blood sugar has been fairly stable of late so I should be good to go as early as March 08.

Being fairly confident in myself even as a "woman of substance" from a vanity point of view it will be nice to have my long legs firmed and toned again.  =)

I weighed in this morning and I am down 3lbs to 241. I think as I move my body out of what I believe was starvation mode when I didn't know how many calories I was actually burning I hope to see this number change more rapidly in the future.

Have a successful week all!

I have rose to the challenge!
  • Neck: 13.4 inches (35cm)
  • Chest: 50 inches (128cm)
  • Waist: 46 inches (118cm)
  • Hips: 55 inches (141cm)
  • Upper Arm: 14 inches (36cm)
  • Forearm: 11 inches (28 cm)
  • Wrist: 6 inches (16cm)
  • Upper Thigh: 35 inches (73cm)
  • Calf:16.5 inches (42cm)
  • Ankle: 9 inches (23cm)

When I went to my bariatric doc for the first time, I got my hips and waist measured. My hips haven't changed, but my waist has gone down from 137cm (53 inches) to 118cm (46 inches), so that's 19cm (7 inches) gone!

So I'm almost down 10lbs since I starting counting calories on the 31st of August. I'm at 246.8lbs, .8 more pounds until the big 1-0.

But since July (when I started to lose weight on my own), I only need 1.8 more pounds to reach my 20lb weight loss goal. I was 265, and am almost at 245! So close, yet so far, haha.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

<3 Jenn

Hi everyone!

Welcome to all the new members!  It's nice to know you!

Congrats bigmommahon your additional 3lbs lost.  I know your looking forward to that number changing more rapidly in the future ( I can relate).  I hope you're still celebrating your current success as well though!  You deserve to.  :)

It's been a couple of days so I thought I should stop long enough to at least say hi.  My best friend had an accident and I've been busy helping her out.   She was walking down the stairs from her apartment and the 4th step from the top gave way.  She fell thru but caught herself (THANK GOD!) on the next step below and managed to pull herself back up.  And that was no small task 'cause she's in the same weight class as me at 300lbs+.  She's bruised from head to toe and she sprained her wrist but she's doing ok.  It could have been much worse.  We're just so thankful she wasn't seriously hurt.  Well, I gotta go.  I'm due back over there but I wanted to check in with everyone.  I've missed you all!!  I hope you're all doing well. :)  xoxoxo

Hi Everyone, I've been traveling the last week for work and am just surfacing from the frantic pace we were keeping. All in all I did well with my eating, although it was impossible to cc. I got to walk on the beach a lot so that was great. My weight was 258.9, up from 255.6 I think, but that's not too bad.

In general, I'm feeling pretty bummed out and discouraged, but connecting with all of you is great. I've been at this weight now for about three weeks because I'm having to travel for work and it just messes with me. Plus, I get so depressed when I'm out of pocket like I have been. I had a horrible day of eating today, all garbage, but I LOGGED IT and didn't go over my calories.

I love all of the encouragement and you are all inspiration to me. My daughter is getting married next weekend, so more traveling and partying is in my future. We'll see how well I do.

Keep up all the good work everyone. I'm going to go walk on my treadmill and drink some water! Thanks to all of you for that.

No loss here =(, but no gain either ! =)

fortyandfab~ I'm happy for you anyway!  You're staying positive and keeping yourself motivated and we all know that's (at least) half the battle.  Keep it up girl.  You're awesome!

tanyamoniq~I can just feel your excitement jumping thru my screen! :)  Yeah!! I feel so giddy (for you? with you? I don't know!)  I'm just so thrilled for you!  Good job!  Keep up the good work!

renastar23~Wow!  10lbs...SWEET!!  You go girl!  You must be so psyched!

I don't have anything new to report about myself.  Still drinking my 10-12cups of water a day.  Still power walking (with weights now-2lbers).

Got any advice? What motivates you?

My friend (that I've been power walking with since July and who has lost 20lbs) hasn't lost any weight and "only" (as she puts it) 1 inch (total)  in 4 weeks.  She's getting really discouraged and I'm her only support.  I know she's not eating well.  She usually has pizza or McDonalds or Taco Bell EVERY DAY and dinner isn't 'til 10pm when she gets home from work.  I tried explaining to her that she may need to cut back on her daily calorie intake and I suggested cc but she's really not interested.  She thinks I've gone overboard.  I see that she's willing to work (because she exercises with me almost every day) but I can't convince her of the importance of a healthy diet as well.  Her logic is this...Before I started exercising I was maintaining my weight (eating like this) so adding exercise should be enough.  Well, why isn't it?  I've suggested maybe she's gaining muscle or maybe she's hit a plateau.  I don't know, I'm running out of ideas.  I don't know what else I can suggest or say that might keep her encouraged to continue.  It's really important to me that she stays motivated because she's my partner in this.  She's been the only reason I show up to work out sometimes.  If I lose her I lose some of my motivation.  So, any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Maybe you have some tips as to where else I should be seeking my motivation from?  I know...I should look to myself but I'm weak. :(  Let's start off with something easier than that!  ha ha J/K lol :)

Thank you!    ~Corisa      &n bsp;

Congrats to everyone who lost weight this week! Great job

Just today I switched my anti-depressant to Wellbutrin. My bariatric doc wanted me to because it suppresses food cravings. Anything that can help is great, so I agreed to switch. The weird thing is, both my family doc, and pharmacist said that it was fine to start the new medication the next day. I thought I had to be weened off the first medication and then weened onto the other. Maybe it's just a mental thing, but I felt funny today, a little dizzy and nauseous. Oh well, hopefully that "side effect" will stop soon.

I've been keeping up my exercise regime, 4 times a week. As well, I've been carrying around 5 hefty books, a binder, lunch etc in a backpack ALL day at college, walking up and down stairs, as well as class to class. Every time I've done the elliptical trainer I do more and more time, I'm glad I've built up my endurance!

I've been feeling really good lately, my stomach is getting smaller week by week, and my water intake is making my skin much clearer. Also, my protein intake is making me feel much stronger and is giving me the mentality that I'm able to do things I once thought I couldn't.

No real change in my weight yet, I'll do my weigh in on Thursday or Friday.. maybe there will be a difference then!

Hope everyone is having a good week thus far.  All the best,

*deep breath* Hi, I'm new here. ::shy wave around the room:: I'm wondering if I can join the group? I'm not too familiar with chatting in forums (I tend to be a lurker). I would love some support, but I'm really shy. At least at first. So if I've intruded in the group, I'm really sorry! But I thought I'd at least give it a try. ::crosses fingers::

A little bout me:

* magickat

1) Starting weight & dated joined: 313 (Yikes!!) & 9/25/07

2) Highest Weight ever: 320

3) Mini-Goals: 1st Goal Weight: 294 by 12/22/07

4) Ultimate goal weight: 180

5) Plan: As of today and the past week, it's been limiting my calories to 2250 a day and exercising 6 days a week. I'm breaking down my weight loss into small goals so that I feel like I'm getting somewhere. I don't even think about being 180. And I'm trying to set myself up with a reward system. Buy myself something nice but small for little goals. I haven't worked it out completely.

Again, I'm really sorry if I just jumped in without being invited or allowed to join. I just wasn't sure what to do since I wanted to join the group.

magickat .... new members are welcomed here with open arms!!!

*HELLO!*

This is a place to check in with some buddies, share some dieting tips and weight loss ideas, discuss calorie-counting and low-calorie foods, report how you've been doing, get and give advice and encouragement ... get questions answered .... you name it! (big smile)

*  *  *

I went grocery shopping today and had to laugh when I looked at my cart at the checkout counter ... radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, avocado, carrots, mushrooms, brussell sprouts, onions, broccoli and acorn squash! hee hee hee .... I must have looked like some sort of "health nut!"  LOL!  I also bought three different packages of the Quaker snack size mini rice cakes .... you can eat 10 for just 70 calories!!! (The sour cream and onion ones were pretty good .... I may try them with cottage cheese or salsa!)

I outdid myself for dinner tonight .... shrimp scampi, wheat bulgur, and steamed carrots .... a nice pile of food for just 466 calories! For those of you looking for a healthier, lower-calorie, lower-carb alternative to white (or brown) rice .... let me suggest bulgur. (It cooks up just like rice, I use a rice cooker). Rice is 200 calories a cup, bulgur is only 150 calories and has fewer carbs, too. Plus, it is better for your heart/cholesterol.... it has a nutty taste and is yummy!

Hey guys!

I met a milestone! Check out my journal Laughing

<3 Jenn

Wow - I see some great weight losses posted!

Jenn - 20 lbs is awesome!  Keep up the great work out schedule.  I remember those college days - it's a tough time to lose weight, but you can do it!

magickat - We're glad to have you.  Hope you find the support and encouragement here you need.

cmcole - it's hard to give motivation to someone else.  Let her know how important she is to you - as your weight loss buddy.  When she sees how well you are doing with changes in diet and exercise, maybe it will motivate her to make some changes as well.

Molly - that is an impressive shopping cart!  All those veggies - excellent choices!

All together now, "Hiiiiiiii, magickat !!"  Welcome~ we're so glad you joined us!    (Big hugs) :)

Hi everyone!  Still here, still drinking my water, still working out (even if I R-E-A-L-L-Y don't want to).  Now and then I just have to give myself a little pep talk, slap myself 'round a little bit.

Hope you're all doing well.  What am I saying?  Of course you are!  You're all AWESOME!!  I'm so glad to have all of you!!  :)  Thanks for all your encouragement and support~I've been needing it lately.   It's been hard to keep my spirits lifted.  Usually I'm so PUMPED about everything but lately I just feel "blah!"  I think I'm gonna follow go4gold's advice and post my answer to the QOW on the fridge.  I think that's what I need~ something staring me in the face reminding me what I'm doing here and why.

Have a good night everyone!  Stay motivated!  Stay strong!  You can do this!      &nbs p; I can do this!!:)  Talk to you soon!

lol  ~Corisa

Just wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome! I hope y'all had a good hump day.

Corisa - Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am definitely celebrating my progress so far. I buy shoes and I'm getting a tattoo done soon =). It is very nice of you to help out your friend as you have been. Not is fortunate enough to have a friend like you. As far as seeking your motivation I don't have all the answers yet but you can borrow some of mine when your motivation tank is low.

Count - I hope that your daughter's wedding is all that she dreams.  I hope you have a great time!

 Jenn- Congratulations on your accomplishments!

Forty - You'll get where you going this is just a temporary rest stop on the journey. =)

Tanya - Gratz!

Rena - Congratz to you too!

Magic - Welcome. This group has been awesome and supportive.
