You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
lolalabella ~ you might need to change things up to lose that last bit. Maybe add some weights to your exercise routine. Are you eating the same things? If you are, change that. Some change will def help you! Good Luck!!
lolabella - I agree with momof2. Your body can get used to your exercise routine. Try the treadmill or weights - bet you will see results.
I got out for a little bike ride with the kids yesterday - hopefully we will start to do that again. I need a kick in the patooty to get myself motivated to work out again. Not to be such a big whiner....but I am so dam tired lately.

So, we are not sure if the kidney stone has passed but he is going to a urologist tomorrow now that we are back in Portland. I have tried to throttle back my eating but you know chocolate is a downfall!! My mother had a big bag of M&Ms. I doled them out but I did eat them.
I was able to take one nice 5 1/2 mile run but for exercise that was about it. I ended up getting another summer cold from a visit to the local children's museum. YUK! Still coughing etc.
All in all I am ready to get back to my normal schedule. Since my scale is busted I really don't know where I am. My clothes fit per normal but I do feel a bit more jiggly...
We'll see what tomorrow brings. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers!!
OK...so I should be all excited about this but I know its temporary. This morning the scale showed 170.5. Lowest I've ever seen....but I know its short lived and tomorrow it will go back up. I've been sufferning with tooth pain all week which resulted in a root canal last night. I haven't been eating much at all since this started.
Even though I expect to see this rise tomorrow - it has motivated me to know I can get there! Maybe getting into the 160's isn't impossible!

Well, husband passed the kidney stone -- woohoo. Now he has to stick to drinking alot more water than he has been - we'll see if he can change.
Yesterday was the first day I logged food in like two weeks. I am still bouncing between 1200 - 1500 cals. I have not weighed myself as my fancy scale is stuck in some funky mode. I have to pull the batteries to reset it.
I got a 30 min run yesterday which was nice but not enough.

missykris - Yeah!!! You go girl :) The is not enough that can be said about the benefits of dental pain and dieting
. LOL I have braces and every time the wires are changed my mouth is sore and I loose weight. 160 is just around the corner for you.
cawilder - Glad DH is better. It seems you are doing very well even with out the help? of the scale
everyone else - keep up the hard work
I gardened yesterday and did not see any reward on the scale for all my efforts but maybe Mon or Tues it will catch up to me.

Hey, OK, fixed the scale - someone had changed it from my lbs to stones - I guess there is a switch. I trepidous about getting on the darn thing but I did and woo hoo - down a pound and still solidly in the 180's -- 188.00. Thank God. I guess I at least had some deficit.
I was able to get in long run today.
Weather is gray here is Portland which means that fall is just around the corner and the rain and cold will start.
Goods and bads to the whole thing.

cawilder ~ glad to read that your hubby is feeling better. Hope that he drinks lots of water now. But men are so stubborn in their ways! lol Nice to hear that your scale was good to you.
I had McDonald's the day before yesterday and yesterday I was 3 lbs!!! Today had lost one of 'em. Hope tomorrow another will be gone! lol It was just so good though! :)
Think I'll be back to my walking tomorrow. Haven't walked in 9 days because of my back and leg hurting so darn much. I've been getting exercise by going up and down the stairs every chance I get and walking around as much as possible whiel resting my leg and back as well. Gotta try to walk outside tomorrow.

- lost 10.1 pounds since February...slow but somewhat steady
Hi FunnyMom, you really are an inspiration because no matter what pain you are feeling you just keep going. If I just have a bad day I make an excuse not to workout. I have even used allergies as an excuse because I do not want to workout with a runny nose![]()
I took 2 one mile walks today and the old leg and back is holding up. My back is hurting right now, but nothing too painful. I can ignore it! lol
Down another pound today! Headed to 169! Gotta get there! Gotta make it!! I just have to!!! :D
It was so nice to get out for my walks today. Saw a couple neighbors out and spoke briefly since I as taking my walks for exercise. They mentioned they hadn't seen me in a while and was worried! I can't believe they noticed! hahaha Told them was having trouble with my leg, so had to take a break.
puppykisses ~ Welcome! Congrats on the 10.1 pounds!!! Slow and steady wins the race! I usually lose a pound a week....talk about slow! lol But I know losing it slow will give me a better chance of keeping it off.

so as expected my 170.5 was very short lived. I knew it when I saw it but we can all dream? That happens to me every few weeks or so and I never realized it until this month that it is the day or so before TTOM. So the combination of the timing and the lack of eating because of my teeth the scale had dropped.
Well the party is over. I was in pain all week with my teeth and wound up with another root canal last night. I didn't eat much but whatever I did eat was bad and I spent a lot of time in bed. I'm now 174 - which is 1.5 lbs more than when I started (excluding that delusional 170 moment). I had another dentist appt this morning so I just got a muffin here at work (something soft). It was 580 calories!!! That is just crazy!
I'm hoping to get back on the wagon this week starting with a bike ride tonight. Now that I should start feeling better I have no more excuses. I need to get into the 160's by the end of Sept - that is my new goal!

Missykris1 - yeah I ate a bran muffin at work and was flabbergasted. It will be ok. At least you have healthy teeth now..
I am sitting at work listening to a conference call.. I actually pace in my small cube and around the cube in order to keep moving as much as possible -- Thanks to mobile headsets.
Do you all feel different after you have exercised for the day? Sometimes I feel really more alive and then there are other times when I just don't think it added more to my life than expending calories. I know heresy but I am interested to see what others think.
I did not exercise yesterday and actually felt ok, but today I really want to push myself.
My eating is getting under control and in-line from vacation. Although I did not eat breakfast until 10:00 and at work - whole wheat hot cereal, blackberries adn skim milk. And of course, a big old coffee!!!

Hello Ladies
cawilder I actually do feel amazing after I work out, I feel so energized and thinner. Probably a state of mind but when I don't work out I feel tired and dumpy.
Tonight is my night to swim and it has been raining since yesterday so I am thinking either my pool is going to be freezing or it won't let up enough to swim and I can't decide what to do. Yesterday was my jog/walk and exercise ball, any suggestions?

missykris -Do not give up!! It is so very frustrating to loose and then gain it right back but you have to stay focused and not loose the motivation. With the dental issues you can eat a lot of soft things without blowing the cal counts. Jello makes a sugar free dark chocolate pudding that is good. Kozy shake makes a rice pudding with splenda that is also good. Jello or frozen juice bars are great and Quaker oatmeal weight control is also really good. I know it's tempting to have a milkshake when your mouth is sore but most small shakes are at least 500-700 cal (I found this out the hard way myself) Hang in there :)

Been trying to exercise more and have borrowed the neighbor's dog for my walks to give her some exercise too. Her mom works long hours and she does not get out enough (that's both the dog and my neighbor! :)
Was bummed last week with the gain but I am hoping for better things this week.

thanks for the note Jen....Trust me! I know I could have ate alot of more healthy things....but as usual I was feeling very sorry for myself and ate whatever. Its such a bad attitude to take because I'm only hurting myself.
I went for a bike ride last night and plan on getting back out tonight. Its hopefully the beginning of me getting back in a good schedule! I'm tired this week and I'm sure a lot has to do with not really exercising lately. I'm in a

The weather here is a bit cool today. I should have worn a jacket. two days ago we broke a record with a temperature of 101. We say here in MT...If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes.....I should say that with a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, a piece of wheat sticking out of my mouth sitting on a horse or sitting in a beat up pick-up truck....lol. I have to say I would like just a few more months with mild weather....picky me.
I ate a piece of cake today with my coffee. I am glad I did it early today because I can budget it in. So, I think that leaves me with yogurt and an apple....wow I am living the high life!!! I am getting better at budgeting in my oopses. So, if I eat naughty at night I eat less calories the following day. So, really it is just like zig-zagging calories which is a good thing.
Puppykisses - I'll take your cool weather anyday! Today was cooler than its been in a while, but it rained off and on all day. Guess I can't be choosy! I do the same thing with my oopsies! And if I want a treat, I try to eat it early in the day.
Went for 2 walks today. One was 2.7 miles and the 2nd was 2.3 miles and I burned a total of 670 calories. (Patting myself on the back) Hopefully I won't pay for it in the morning....not being able to get out of bed because my back and leg hurt. :(
I am so determined to get to the 160's! I'd give my right arm to see it on the scale! I just have to keep this up so I can get there.

Watched the Steeler game tonight! THEY WON!!!! I LOVE the Steelers!
My calories today was good and got my exercise so I had a good day. :)

Hi all. I'm still here. I was definitely struggling a bit this week - not logging food and feeling a bit unmotivated. However I did get out for a few bike rides later this week and are feeling better than I was. My tooth issues are over and that has given me back more energy.
My weight is back to 172.5 which is basicall back to where I was before I went on vacation July 22! Its been a roller coaster since then.
I'm getting ready now to go out for a ride now AND I have complete faith the I will finally break through the wall and get into the 160's by the end of September.
I know this is what you want too, Momof 2. Lets make it our #1 goal this month!
You are so right, I want those 160's BAD!!! lol I'm not weighing for 2 weeks to concentrate on my eating and exercise. The scale is a distraction for me these days. I'm tired of weighing everyday.
My weight was 174 Wednesday. So I'll see if this new route will get me out of the 170's by the end of Sept!
I've been walking twice a day and burning over 600 calories a day. I've been eating under my calorie limit too. If I can just keep that up! :D
It'll soon be the season for gift-buying, and for holiday getaways. So why not buy some travel gifts? For kids, moms, dads.
