Four Week Club, Part II - Starts Monday May 12th and ends Monday, June 9th! -- CLOSED to new members

Hey, I think it was pretty successful and, to be honest, I liked almost everybody that was involved.

(Kidding!)

Same dilly - For those of us in the current four week count down, post your final weight there, and then copy and paste it here... as it will be the starting weight here!

Morning Weigh ins on May 12th, and then every Thursday and Monday from then on!

(I'm actually pretty glad to do this - I'm going to Hawaii on June 12th, so I'd love a reason to keep driving to my goal weight before I get on that plane.)

Awright! Who's in!

Starting Weight: 195

Last Weigh In: 191

Today: 192

So here is my dilemma. I feel like when I only diet and do not exercise, I lose weight steadily.  However these past two weeks I have been hitting the gym with a nice mix of cardio and weights 5-6 days a week.  Calorie count says I've been burning about an extra 800-1000 calories.  So, I've been upping my intake to 2000 calories instead of 1300 to avoid a deficit larger than 1000.  However, ever since I've been doing this, I've stayed steady with my weight if not gained a little like today.  Could this be temporary water retention?  Should I drop my calories back to about 1600 even though that will put be at a large deficit?  I don't know what to do!

This can be water retention in your muscles. I know that if I do a good weight workout one evening, then my weigh-in the next day can be higher due to the muscles holding onto some water.

If you keep staying stagnant, check measurements.  If your measurements are coming down, then don't worry.  If you are completely stagnant, then try zig zagging your caloric intake.  Some days go higher, then some days back down.  This can easily trick your body into thinking it's getting all of the food it needs and then push up the metabolism again which will give you your weight losses.

SW: 195

GW: For this run - 188

Thursday's weight:  188.5

Current weight - 188.5

Yesterday was hard.  I had about 1000 cals into it by dinner, and then ended up having a dinner that was too much bread, potato crisps on top of halbut... easily another 1000 cals.

I think that stuff is still sitting on my stomach... but still... to kill seven pounds in four weeks as I wanted to do, I just have to lose the half pound between now and Monday.  I can do it... (at least, I think I can!)

And, of course:

The Next run - a 42 day challenge - starts here

Hope to see you all there, and catch you guys here Monday morning for the end of another great run!

    - Steve

P.S.  I could use some easy to do tips on getting past a plateau as we go into the next run...

Hey everyone..

I started at 166
Now I am at 160

That's my report. Nothing to feel bad about.... I'm just feeling myself out, and I've done what I came to do lose weight, but I didn't get to 158 like I was planning. :) But I'm still happy.

*sigh*

SW: 146

last week's weigh in: 143.5

Today: ......146...........

I'm quitting drinking! Except for when I have to do it for work (ie wine tastings) but that's IT because I can't drink and then not eat. Sucks.

Eat more.  Keep exercising - both weights and cardio.  Add more protein to your diet as you add the extra calories.  Mix up your routine.

You seem to be eating too little.  Only 2,000 calories???  Isn't your burn around 2600 a day, without exercise for your size?  If you are eating under 1800, and so close to your body's goal weight that you may have slowed your metabolism.  Try eating 2300 calories (good calories) a day for awhile, but still getting in your exercise.  I bet you'll start to lose some weight.  The weight will come off slower when you get closer to your body's goal weight.

Actually, my burn right now is 2250 (Using "sedentary" and my current weight), so I'm trying to keep it around 1800... but I haven't always had a lot of luck doing that.  I always seem to err on the side of less, not more.

That being said, starting tomorrow, I'll try to notch it up a bit.   Is there something I can eat/take that will ramp my metabolism as well?  Because I could use a little goosing here, I'm sure..

If you want, look into 7-Keto and/or CLA.  They both help to boost the loss of fat while keeping lean muscle.  These are especially good when you are 35+ as a supplement.

How many calories are you burning on days you workout?  Maybe add in the calories to your diet on those days.  The goal is to trick your body into thinking that it's fat and happy, so it will boost  your metabolism.

I'm trying, dude.  But if I have more than 1700 or 1800 calories, I feel piggish.

Today, I rode the bike for an hour (Minimal resistance) and worked with the personal trainer for about 20 minutes.  I probably should have more food right now, but I can't even BEAR the idea of food right now.

Appareciate the tip on 7-Keto and/or CLA.  Gonna do some googling right now.

So... did a little research.

I think I'll avoid any thermogenics that up a body's blood pressure.  Half the reason I'm doing this is to keep the BP down.

:)

However, I'm going to start a 30 day cleanse tomorrow... slowly clean out the system as I work toward the end game.  I only want to lose a little more... I think I can reasonably aim for the mid 170s while trying to build muscle.  That'll be a slower loss, but a better total body structure.

I hope.

Okay, so tomorrow is the end of this group, and my goal was to be 140. Today I weighed in at 145, which is where I've been for the past few weeks. ..I've bounced between 142 and 147 for the past two months, I think my body just needs some time to readjust to this weight. Technically this is my "ideal weight" although I know I could be a lot healthier if I lost an additional 10 or so pounds, which is what my goal is (135).

Is that what it could be? My body just saying 'hold up! give me a while to get used to this weight before losing more'? cause I've lost 20 pounds since January, but it would make sense to me that every once in a while people hit loooooong plateaus so their bodies can really take their time adjusting. Right...?

: ]

nefertiti you could be correct.  You might be at your body's "set point"  If you want to change it then you might have to add exercise, weights and calories see I saved the best for last.  Or it could be just a slow down.  As we get nearer to our goals our body's have adjusted to our caloric intake and it is just very hard to lose those last 10 pounds.

If you ask in the fitness forum then you'll most likely get all kinds of advice on how to change things up and I'm sure most of it will be good.  I think you look fabulous.  I can't wait till I get to my ideal or at least closer too it.  Good job on the work you've done.

Nef - Yeah, I think you're body's probably taking a breather.  But the good news is, it's taking a breather because you have kicked much ass the first half of this year.  I'm glad to hear you thinking about this in such a positive way, as opposed to what I was doing earlier in the thread about me.

20 pounds since Jan?  That's awesome!  Good for you!

Thanks Marmel and Leanne! The past few days I've been eating more towards my maintenance and less towards 'diet' calories. So I've been eating 1800-2200 a day instead of the usual 1500-1800. It's nice being able to eat more : ]

I figure that my body's probably gonna chill for the next few weeks, and no matter how much I stick to 1500-1800 calories and exercise I won't lose, so I might as well eat more and not lose. Hahaha. I think I'll just focus on toning and lay off the scale for a few days. Well, that's impossible, but I'll just ignore the numbers for the next few days.

Well, another month and forum in the books.  It was a good month and fun to work with and be accountable to all of you.  For those not going on to the next forum, Good Luck and keep it up. Everyone else, I'll see you for the next 42 days!

SW: 203.6

CW: 193.0

I lost 10.6 lbs in this last month.  Not a bad month at all.  I also lost a little over 3% bodyfat, which is even better than the weight loss.  Cool!

Good Luck to all!
