I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs. I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose. Hopefully there's some people out there!!
Happy New Year!
Hi All,
Well I got in a workout and man I'm so sore today. It's good though because atleast I can tell I did something. Well I start February and hope to accomplish a loss of 5 pounds this month. Instead of looking at the long road I've decided to take it a month at a time and if I can manage losing 5 pounds a month I will be so happy.
I'm at 195 now from 202 so 150 here I come.
Waddope Congrats on making it! How much more do you want to lose??
Welcome Rabavert001-Nice to see a fellow Texan in here. Life is tough being a single mom as I was for 5 years just before getting remarried this past year. My hats off to you for trying because it's hard work to work, lose weight and be a single parent.
JenPrays-Yea the exercise will help a ton. Start off slow and work your way up to it because if you go full blast in the beginning you could get overwhelmed. Soreness the next day and sweating are good things.lol Something I'm having to tell myself.
Talk to yall soon.
Original Post by vegetariangeek:Wow, Waddope! Under 140!! How many more to goal?
Jenprays, I seriously hear you on the greasy food - one bad meal after a week of eating healhty makes you realise you don't HAVE to be that hard on your stomach.
Thanks! My goal is 130, so 9.2 left! Feeling good since I had stalled for two weeks.
Hey everyone,
It feels good to be a part of this group and that everyone's doing well. Congrats on all the losses. I went for a physical on Monday, and I got some shocking news . . . I'm only 5'2"!!!!! And 1/2 inch of that was only after I made the nurse remeasure because I was sure the scale/height check was broken. Well, I've come to terms with my actual height at 5'2" (even though my license says 5'3").
Good news from the physical: I'm healthy, and my doctor loves my enthusiasm to eat right and take care of my body. Oh, and I weighed in at 154! Down another 1.5 for a total of 4 lbs in January.
Bad news from the physical: I asked the doctor if it would be healthy to lose 15 lbs. She asked my height and weight and said that I should lose at least 25 lbs. So of course I went home and binged at the news. Has anyone else found this whole BMI thing a crock, or am I just upset that I have farther to go than I thought? At my skinniest I was 137, and for me I looked anorexic and sick. Girls I need some advise, should I listen to my doctor (who's thin and beautiful btw) or stick with my original goal of getting down to 140? Thanks for any responses.
Congrats to everyone again, yall are doing great! And thank you for being my motivation.![]()
Anyone else here agree with me that what doctors say doesn't always seem to correct?
Inoccent_sin-I agree with you about the whole BMI. My deal is that I'd be fine weighing 150 number wise but know that muscle weighs more than fat therefore maybe possible making the number stay the same but look hella toned up. When I was younger around 18 I weighed 135 and that was way skinny for my height. I'd now be comfortable with 150 but the goofy charts at my doctors say I need to be 135 or I'm obese.lol Don't ya just love that word? Obese-pisses me right off.lol From your pic I think you are looking great. Keep up the good work.
Many people carry their weight in different locations also. Lastnight I watched The Biggest loser and there was a girl-Britney that started at like 203 and is now down to 189 from lastnights weigh in and I'm like well I weigh 195 and look skinnier. How does that all work?
So, for now I'm still eating right and just working out. I'm so dang sore but I'm going to keep going and hope to get a workout in tonight. I told my little girls I lost 7 pounds last month and they both know I'm working hard on mama now and they were so excited for me that they started squealing out of excitement. That reaction just makes me more motivated.
Anyone have any good motivating news or anything good going on? OK so I'm going to be crazy and I want to put up a before and after swimsuit pic. Maybe I could see some results that way.
Doctors are wrong a lot. Honestly, I think people place far too much credence in what they say. Some are better than others, of course, but you simply cannot always take their advice/directions/diagnoses as gospel. The weight charts (and BMI) can be a good guide, but are often wrong for many. My personal trainer, who is insanely muscular, is considered "obese." I am technically considered "underweight" but look fit and healthy because I have a TINY frame. Take it all with a grain of salt and remember that NO ONE knows your body as well as you do.
Paige~ you should post the before and after pics. They're motivational for a lot of people and they'll allow YOU to see a difference. I really wish I'd take more pictures on my weight loss journey, so definitely don't be shy about it!
innocent_sin -- The bottom line is, just lose what you want to. If you are comfortable 15 pounds lighter, then stay there. If you get there and think that maybe you should drop a little bit more, you can take it slow and see what fits you best. Like Paige said, weight sits differently on different people. It's all about how you feel. ![]()
And I just thought I'd share... I've found my new favorite workout! My nearly stepson has an Xbox 360 that lives at our apartment, but he's not around very often. I just bought Dance Dance Revolution for it, and I love it! There's even a "workout" feature where you can input you weight and it will tell you how many calories you've burned! This will be great for when it's icky outside and I can't get the motivation to go to the gym. However, living in an apartment, I have to be careful to not do it too early or too late... the downstairs neighbors may complain about the thumping noise from above. ![]()
Well, another pound gone...not as good as last week but with all the events (2 birthday parties and Superbowl) I am happy there was still a loss. It sounds like everyone is sticking with the program. Great job everyone! Keep it UP!
Thank you all so much, I really needed that reassurance. I think I've finally gotten over the initial shock and am just going to trust in my own judgement with my weight loss and exercising. Heck, I've been doing this for so many years now that I should know what's best for me better than a person that only sees me once or twice a year.
I do carry a lot of muscle, even though I haven't been able to pound the weights for over 2 months (sad face), but surprisingly as I do more cardio my muscles are starting to show again. I knew they were in there, they were just hiding!!!
haveyjb - you're making a good arguement for me getting an Xbox, I've always wanted one! You really do come up with some great ways to have fun and exercise.
I've been fighting a cold for the past few days and I'm afraid it may be the flu. Looking at the positive of being sick, at least it is motivating me to eat healthier.
Paige - the before and after pics are a GREAT motivation to everyone. I carry a before pic around in my car and one in my office. People look at it and then look at me now and just ask how I did it. It helps me remember where I was, what I went through, and makes me feel great that I could offer others help. So you know you're not alone I'll scan my before pic and post it too.
Thanks again to everyone for being my motivation and helping me keep a level head!
Hi all,
It's so great to have yall here. This week has been good but then from wednesday I have missed my workouts and have only made 1 in at the gym so far this week. I'm going later tonight for sure! My girls have cheerleading then I need to fit in some me time. Also I need to get my weigh in so I'm excited to see about that.
I had regular cokes yesterday so that was a No No! I ate good though. Chicken breast brocolli and a little bit of macaroni and cheese. My grade for all I ate yesterday was a B and I did walk the stairs here at work. That includes the regular cokes. Today though i'm back on my one diet dr pepper and the rest water for the day.
Way to go Jen! A pound lost is just another out of the way!
Haveyjb-Isn't that dance revoultion game awesome? My kids have one and we just play around on it a lot. They get a kick out of laughing at me because I'm much slower at it than they are.
Rabavert001-We still allow diet drinks in the house and I make a lot of tea for the family. We have slowly changed everything that way it doesn't seem so drastic. I'm the type that if it's a forbidden fruit then that makes me want it evenmore. We have added having apples and bananas around and then some more healthier snacks if the kids want something. Then they still feel like things are the same but there are just more healthier choices available for them.
Innocent_sin-When I post my swimsuit pics you will see I used to have 6 pack abs and dang they were hot. Now that I've been working out the outline for them is still there and they were just hiding also under my blubber.lol I can't wait to see them all the time again. It's going to be so great.
I'm taking my before pics this weekend with my digital camera and will post them sunday I hope. I'd like to have them to see where I need work. Have a great Friday
Hi all!
I am in my late twenties (27) and 157lbs, trying to be around 135 or 140. I ahve been stuck here for quite a long time...last year I trained for 6 months and ran a half-marathon and didn't lose a thing! After some aches and pains I have given up running but continue to go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do yoga twice a week. I have been using CC for a few weeks here and there to make sure my usual diet is around 1600 calories a day. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideaas why I can't shake the weight?
Hey all! I don't remember if we have a specific weigh in day, but I weighed in this morning at 189.8. That's down 4.2 lbs since I started at 194 on Monday. Yea me!!!
I hope you're all doing as well!
hi friends,
i know i'm a bit late weighing-in on this (no pun intended) innocent-sin, but i just went to the doctors yesterday and received completely different news...just goes to show you how confusing these doctor's can be!!
my height is 4'10" (just a shade under tall..haha!) and i weighed in 128 (fully clothed) at the doctors. I asked him what a healthy weight should be for me and his words exactly were " i probably should give you the 'doctor' answer and look at your BMI, but the BMI doesn't take into account many factors like body frame. I look at the whole picture, your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. and those look great so i say you're fine." right now my BMI is 28, which i thought was awful, but he said that it really wasn't that bad. If i aimed for a BMI of 25 (which my doctor said was great but i thought was still high) i should weigh 120. I was hoping to get between 110-115 but now i'm thinking that's too much to loose, especially when my doctor thinks i'm fine as i am!!! CRAZY!
i think that all you ladies out there who said that WE know our bodies best were right. when you are comfortable with the weight you are at, that's where you should be (considering you are healthy). i personally think that everyone's body has an "ideal weight" that it's comfortable at, unfortunately for most of us, our body's comfort weight is heavier than we'd like it.
so, let me know what you think of my doctor's opinion...it was my first time visiting him and i'm not sure what to think!!! thanks all!
Happy Monday All! Man this weekend went by way to fast. Well I weighed in yesterday and I stayed at 195. Thats with me messing up and adding in a few regular cokes and not eating so healthy this weekend.
I'm getting back to my workouts and am going to make myself go atleast 4 times a week. I loved seeing the weight drop 7 pounds last month so maybe this month I could do 5lbs.
Have a great day and I will chat later.
