Lauren in San Diego here (5'11''). I was up to almost 180 lbs at the end of last year and I lost about 10 pounds during Jan-Feb and then got lazy. I need to get back on the wagon. I think I weigh around 170 and I would like to be 150. Weigh in on Fridays for me starting tomorrow. I would love to chat with others who have similar stats and goals to stay motivated. All my girlfriends are little petites, I need some amazon love!!
Let's look hot and healthy this summer!!!
Good morning all! So the wedding was fabulous and I did have a few glasses of red wine and a bit of cake. It lasted 7 hrs!!! Who could resist! But I definitely agree you cant live superstrictly 24/7 and have to indulge a bit! Back to the gym this evening to work it off!
Question to ya'll....so I am really trying to adjust my eating habits. I generally don't go over my calories during the week and workout 4-5 times a week usually (everything from kickboxing, step, weightlifting, running, elliptical) so I definitely try to vary my activities. I do indulge a bit on the wknds usually giving myself one day free - being my husband and I are very social people. :) Now it says my burn meter is fairly high and my calories allowed are more than what I eat daily anyway...I think it said 1900 or so and I generally fall btwn 1400 and 1600 daily. Now I have noticed I am slimming up (clothes are looser) and I have gained some fabulous muscle, but still have some "pinchable spots"that annoy me..lol . (WOW...sorry for the rambling)
I really want to trim down over the next 6 weeks as much as possible and was wondering if any of you have done the minimum intake of 1200 calories allowed for women and seen results or if it stalled your progress or what?
Just wondering as I am starting to shoot for about 1200 calories (of healthy goodies) daily this week to see what happens......
Cari
Hello, Welcome to vik and super blackwoman! I'm glad to see someone at the same wt and with the same goals, same height too. Goo look. I know how hard it can be when you've got to fix food for a child--I end up eating the left overs a lot.
My solution for falling off the wagon at social gatherings is to allow myself a little bit of leeway, then increase the exercis for a few days. If I try to stay away from all the good stuff (cake and chocolate) at a party, I usually end up binging by the end of the night, so I give myself permission to have a taste of somethings and work it off later. Hope it helps.
Hello!
Can I join your club? I have been reading the past entries and I have similar goals to you girls. I was my heaviest in the beginning of May when I graduated college and decided that this summer it was time to get into shape!
heaviest weight: 161.2
current weight: 145.2
short term goal weight: 140 (hopefully by the end of the summer - mid-August - when I head back to grad school)
goal weight: 130
My main diet strategies have been portion control with calorie counting and increasing my workouts. I LOVE pasta and just about anything sweet, so at first the diet was a pain. I try to stick to 1200-1400 cals a day and so far it has been working pretty well. Before this diet I tried losing weight before without counting calories and it never worked for me. I really need the control of knowing exactly how much I am eating. Going out can be hard - the cals in drinks really add up!
Going off of that - do any of you have suggestions for low cal cocktails? Usually I stick to light beer or I'll have a rum and diet and try to make it last.
I am down 16 pounds from my highest weight and will probably continue doing what I have been doing. When I reached 148 I hit a plateau for about 2.5 weeks. I increased my workouts to 60 min of cardio on the elliptical (from 30) about 5 times a week and it worked! Plateaus are no fun - but it feels GREAT when you break through them!
The thing that has helped me the most so far was finding filling snacks that are low in calories. I eat pickles and popcorn a lot (yum!) The fiber and the volume of food in each of these makes me feel satisfied.
I'm excited to meet you girls!
Hello & welcome Chocolate. We are looking forward to seeing you around the forum :) How tall are you?? Good job on losing 16+lbs. thats great! I have lost 9 so far. Working towards another 23lbs down. My goal is 140, Im 5'10, and I weigh 163.6 as of today...just wittling it away :P
Hello all! I know I'm a little late but can i still join in? I have been looking for a forum for tall women that actually keeps going! I joined a couple in the past but after a week or so everyone sort of dropped out and never updated!
I'm 6' and have been calories counting off and on for awhile but started to get more serious around January.
starting weight- 170
current weight- 150
goal weight- 140-145 (going to see how I feel at 145 and then go from there :) I love that you girls have similar goals! I find that because I'm so tall people think 145 is wayyy to skinny but I have such a small frame and not much muscle, so I'm certain I will not look too skinny!
I'm sort of near the end but that seems to be the hardest because I'm already so happy with my progress I don't have quite as much motivation to keep myself going. I am in college right now and intern every other quarter. I seem to do really well when working and then not so well when I go back to school-usually just maintaining and not losing. I just started working again in the summer and hopefully I can lose enough before school starts again to just continue maintaining!
Cari- I found that going too low with calories pretty much halted my weight loss and upping it back up to 1500-1600 jump started it again. I know its different with everyone but just my experience.
chocolate- I know how you feel about pasta! I love any kind of pasta and bread. If I could eat it for every meal I most certainly would!
Welcome steph & chocolate, I'm Danielle!
I've been on this post for awhile now and its been really helpful to be accountable for the weekly weigh-in (Fridays for most of us!) I actually weigh-in daily which can be good for staying on track, but some days its a bummer when its up a lb, likley due to water weight.
it sounds like a lot of us are around the same age too! I finished up college last spring, and my highest weight EVER was 165. (I'm 5'10''). When I started CC in early May I was 160, and now I'm hovering between 154-155. Hoping to get to 140 by the end of summer, and 150 by July 12th! You are both doing so well which is inspirational to me. I've hit a plateau for about the past two weeks, and I found your words inspiring Chocolate. I am SO determined to get down. I am training for a marathon right now so I'm sort of struggling with determining how many calories to take in. I was losing more weight before the training really kicked in, I think, because I kept better count of my calories. Now I've been eating more because I'm burning more, but how much Im not sure.
If anyone works in an office and has good lunch suggestions around 300-400 calories please let me know! Work is the toughest time for me to control myself (I work for a restaurant group in the offices and we get free lunch in the location across the street and its mostly HIGH fat/cals!) wow i am in a rambling mood today!
Keep up the progress ladies!!!

Hi Girls,
I'm ready to join too! I've been on my weight loss journey for a little over a month, and it has been going alright so far. I'm 21, 5'9.5", and I just graduated college, so I'm ready to whip myself into shape for the next stage in my life. When I started, I was 183 (my heaviest ever!). I'm down about 7lbs so far, but over all, I'd like to lose 28lbs, leaving me at 155. I think this weight should be good for me, since I have a rather large frame (huge ribcage!).
It's been difficult for me because when I count my calories, I'm always on (okay, maybe I go over by 50 calories or so), but for the most part, I'm good. But then when I go on vacation I say I'm going to be good, but of course I don't do as well as I would like. So my next issue is on Saturday, I'm going on a cruise for almost 3 weeks. I'm in Italy for 5 days before (Italy = pasta, pizza, calzones, gelato), but then after that, the ship has a gym so I should be okay. I am pretty busy while onboard because I am a group leader, so sometimes I don't have the time or energy to work out.
Since it is a group, they are very social, which means a lot of drinking. I know how to choose the low calorie drinks (martinis, vodka soda, etc.), but its just the matter of quantity.
Okay, sorry I've been rambling, but I think this group will help because whenever I want to indulge myself, I think I'll be able to control myself...I hope.
Alright, I'm off use the elliptical!
Stacy,
It sounds like you've set realistic goals for yourself. Can I ask what cruise line you are going on? I did a similar cruise to what you are describiing with Celebrity a few years ago (it was 12 days I think, with a few days in Italy).
Celebrity has a "spa cafe" in the adult area with some quite healthy and DELICOUS choices. Also, at every meal they had certain foods labeled with select nutrition info for health conscious guests. I also went on a caribben cruise in college for spring break with Carnival and they had some healthy options. Try to eat a high fiber cereal and fruit for breakfast, or if you need more protein go to the omlette section and get an egg white omlette with lots of veggies and ask them to cook it with pam (be sure to ask nicely and the omlette guy will get to know you!!)
Lunch you can do a nice turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread or something. ALso, considering you are doing a European cruise there is probably a great chance you will be doing a lot of walking around in the ports. consider buying a cheap pedometer so you can realize how many cals you burn just WALKING! (also throughout the ship! and take the stairs to get to the different levels, it ends up taking the same tme as waiting for the elevator).
In Italy, choose dishes with a red sauce base. Bread there is serveed with olive oil and not butter which is much healthier. And some fun news: gelato is MUCH lower in fat/cals than traditional ice cream. It also comes in fruit flavors that are more like sorbets which are usually fat free!
I hope this helps you with your trip! I am so jealous of the amazing time you will have! Finally, you will be so occupied with the amazing sights and things you see food will not be on your mind 24/7 like it may be at the office, haha! ;)
HAVE FUN!!

Hi Everyone,
I just got back from being gone for 5 days on vacation. It sure is nice to be back home. We had a lot of fun seeing our family that is scattered across the Lone Star state. I managed to walk almost every day and even twice on one day. But I know I didn't get as good a work out every day that we were gone.
After the first two days, I gave up on counting calories. But I did my best to eat clean. It wasn't easy all the time. Everyone wanted to feed us. But for the most part, I think I did okay. But it's good to be back in complete control of my meals again. I went shopping this morning and spent over $80 on healthy food. (mostly produce plus some fish) My frig was totally empty.
I drug myself out of bed this morning to go walk. I almost didn't go but then reminded myself that I've never regretted going when I didn't feel like it. But I've almost always regretted not going no matter how good the excuse. I felt better after walking but I was more tired than usual. I skipped my water aerobics because it was very cloudy and starting to rain. So I assumed they were going to cancel. But I have to admit that it was easy to just not go. I've got a ton of stuff to do today to catch up after vacation. Tomorrow is a prenatal day. So, I have to be ready to go back to work.
Congratulations to everyone who lost this week. I've lost 1.4 lbs which isn't bad but not as good as I've done before. Perhaps now that I'm home I can focus better on what I need to do.
Monkeyfish - to answer your question, we did Christian mission work in PNG. It sure was a nice place to live.
Have a great week everyone.![]()

Hi Ladies,
I wanted to post-in, because I am going to my beach house tonight for the weekend, and usually I avoid most electronics while I'm there! I weighed-in today, feeling quite bloated, but heres my stats:
sw: (may 5th) 160 lbs (i think i was closer to 162 really but I didn't start weighing or posting til I watched things on my own for a couple days, haha)
cw: 154! My trend line finally broke into the 154, @ 154.75. A couple days ago I was at 156.1, BOO! So although my progress this week stayed between 154-155 (154 the last three days) I feel like I'm making progress since the green trend line is going down.
stgw: 150
ltgw: 140!!
Good luck to everyone at those bbqs! Last night my mom & sister ate pizza for dinner. I got this (AMAZING- if you have trader joes near you go NOW and get it!) tomato and roasted red pepper bisque. I usually associate the word bisque with fatty & HIGH cals. But this soup is only 100 cals, 2 grams of fat for a cup, I had 1.5 cups, topped with fresh basil out of the garden and I was stuffed. Its like the best tomato soup I've ever had. And the whole time I ate it, I think I had an evil little smile on my face, that I'd made a smart decision, while my little sis who's been at uni in Australia for the year (and PACKED ON the lbs!) ate pizza. I know thats wrong, but I love when I have better self-control then the people I'm with.
good luck with those weigh-ins ladies!

Danielle, thanks so much for all of your helpful advice! I'm actually going on a Royal Caribbean cruise, but they are very similar to Celebrity, so it should be fairly easy to get the healthier options. The only issue is that I am a vegetarian, so often the healthy options are fish or chicken. But I think it will be easy enough to make the right decisions...if my will power can take it, that is. Thanks again!
So last night I ended up eating a lot of not good food including fried calamari and ice cream! ahh! It was no sugar added ice cream though but I still ate a lot of it. I didn't get to work out yesterday so I figured my weight would be up this morning, but to my surprise it was down 1.4 pounds since last week :)

Have a great holiday ladies and good luck on sticking to your goals!

I lost only one pound this week. I went on vacation and didn't get as much exercise and ate more than I've been eating at home. I was glad to see that I still lost some but would like to loose 2.5 lbs a week.
It's raining here. Gotta exercise indoors ![]()

Hi all! Happy Fourth of July! Hope everyone has a great holiday.
SW 178 CW 165.4 (up from 164.6 i think) GW 150
ah well my first UP number. Maybe water? It is TTOM. Hopefully it will go back down. My eating has been the same....still lifting....have missed some cardio due to allergies and feeling gross. Hope you are having a better week in #s than me! ![]()
Friday Weigh-in
5'11"
159. Up 1.5 from last Friday. TTOM begins anyday and I already puff up extra in the heat (usually gain 5lbs this time of year). I'm happy to report I didn't gain weight from my camping trip, and so far, have stayed at or below 160 since it's gotten hot.
I am seriously considering trying to eat at maintenance for two weeks, starting tomorrow, to see what happens. I still want to lose 10lbs, but have been stuck around 160 for a month now, though I've been good about eating at a deficit and exercising. I'm looking fairly thin for my frame, so no hurry for me to lose more yet.
I told emberjem I would be the "calorie increase" guinea pig, so I'll keep ya'll posted.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE! BE SAFE!

Hello fellow tall women. Here's a question. What is your shoe size? As a taller lady, I wear a size 10-11 and I hate it! And WHY on earth does it seem like they only make huge stilletto heels in that size?? I have to buy shoes to go with a bridesmaids dress for a June wedding, and I dread finding cute, comfortable formal shoes.
Anyone else?
i'm 5'10' and wear a size 11, so i totally sympathize. i buy most of my shoes online via zappos.com. the site is really great because you can put in your size and they will only show shoes that are available in that size! not to mention, they have free next day shipping and free return shipping if they don't work out. another great site is endless.com they carry tons of size 11s and also have free next day shipping. happy shoe shopping!
Late weigh in Post...Sorry!
Fri was the same again..no loss - but it is TTOM so I expected it!

Ready for a great new week! Good luck ladies!
