- gotta' go soak up this cool weather.
Ha ha! Here in Maine we are in favor of soaking up warmth! But my dad lives in Tucson and I know the summers there are brutal so I guess you get a pass. And congrats on the -25! happy happy joy joy
Hi suzenf-what's the temp in bermuda? I have heard that you shouldn't go below 1200 cals per day... don't remember where though. You do lose more at the beginning (well I'm not but my body's used to defending it's fat against diets) I've also heard that the slower you lose it the easier it is to keep off... or maybe that's just my rationalization. No, really I did hear that.
I HATE mammograms.... humiliating. Nothing like seeing a sensitive body part vaguely resembling a pancake.
Hi Suz and welcome! You definitely do lose more in the beginning and slow down in time. I know you aren't supposed to go below 1200 but I have to say I did in the beginning (like 1000-1100) and got a good start and once in awhile I still do and it seems to help get me past these plateaus I can't seem to overcome PERMANENTLY!!!! LOL Hope everyone is well and having a vvvveeeeeeeeeeeerry happy Wednesday!
Connie
Hello to all -
Golly, life is still very hectic (and those damn mares are still in heat), but I just have to come out and catch up. Hi to the two new *faces* I haven't welcomed yet - Sandy (webbgalarza) and suzenf!!
Warning I am kinda in a ranting and rambling mood so this note is probably going to be one of those wandering and long ones and you may want to just bag out now!!
I think I am up a pound from where I have been tracking, but it is not higher than my last recorded weight out here on CC so I am trying not to fret too much. Technically I have lost a solid 20#'s since February and I think I was mentally enjoying the visible drop each month (even week). My guess is that my body has figured out what I am up to and is putting the brakes on. I suspect I am going to see much slower weight losses now <sigh>.
I may be stressing a little too much anyway, but that sorta goes with the terrain we are crossing. My nephew is getting married on Saturday and this date had been one of three dates this year that I had in mind when I embarked on a "serious" goal of losing weight!! I work for a medical software company and we have had business casual dress for at least 5-6+years which many employees (including myself) translated to casual wear likes jeans and a presentable blouse, shirt, blazer, etc. Sooo those remaining dresses that I didn't send to Goodwill have been in the darkest corner of my closet and I was hoping to be able to utilize one of them rather than spending money on a new dress.
Well.... last night I pulled out the dresses that had the *potential* as wedding attire and tried them on <argh>. Out of four, two were still tight - showing those [now smaller] unsightly bulges and two I could use. Of the latter two, one had me seriously contemplating - "what the heck was I thinking keeping this thing?" OK, so that leaves me with at least one option; albeit not exactly what I had hoped for. So maybe I should just poke me head into the church thrift store tomorrow in the hopes that a dress both somewhat more flattering and economical would miraculously be hanging on the rack there. ![]()
So, here I had been pretty pleased with myself as I had gotten into jeans I hadn't worn in quite a while and they are loose now... but then this whole dress thing got me all bummed out again when I went to try them on. Oh well, I guess I should take the small victories where I can. Besides, who wants 5-6+yr old dresses anyway
I suspect that subconsciously it is also because my sister (18yrs younger and looking far more fabulous) will be down from Ontario for the wedding and when placing us side-by-side -- well I don't need to spell that one out.
Hope everyone else is having a good day/week!!
skn (sue)
P.S. Oh, the other two dates I have mentally pictured during this weight lose journey are next week (22nd is my annual physical) and the third week of August when we vacation with my husbands folks and two sisters (and their children). Back in February my thoughts of sitting on the Cape at the beach at that present weight brought shudders even to me!! Perhaps this is the date I should focus on more -- the other two will soon be just a memory.
Oh Skn....Luckily I have 3 OLDER Fatter brothers! I do understand though.....skinny friends that are at least 10 years my junior!!!! I'm with you too on the happy happy day I got into all the "old" jeans that I very often started to take to Goodwill 'cause i never would get into.....but now have!!! On the few dresses I had in the closet WITH the jeans well they were loose in the BOOBS but the little pooch belly thing had me discouraged so i just said #$%@ on it and gave them away!
! So just remember how well you've done and know that whatever you find to wear all the attention (as far as your sis) will go to YOU with everyone noticing the new weight loss!!!!
Hope the hectic turns relaxing soon! Hey go have a PINA COLADA tonight somewhere!! LOL NO DON'T it'll show threw the dress! Hope I made ya laugh!!!! Connie
Hi all - I haven't posted for a while so welcome to everyone new and all the regulars too.
Been pretty busy lately but here's a quick update - well, on the bad side my 14 year old has glandular fever (poor little sweetie) but on the good side she has started to show some signs of recovery in the last couple of days.
Mum has had her biopsies (on the cancers in both legs) and she will have surgery in one to remove it then plastic surgery for the reconstruction and she will probably have radiotherapy on the other leg. Rest of the children are good, husband is also good - is now managing regular 45min - 1hour walks ![]()
I've been upping the exercise and decided to start doing it in the a.m. instead of during the day. Scales aren't budging but the measuring tape is still showing some progress and I'm happy with that.
Will try to post more often but its a bit tricky with the ill health in the family at the moment.
Bye for now - keep smiling!!![]()
Oh poor baby...You know we all will keep you and your family in our prayers! I'm glad that your daughter is showing signs of getting better. keep up the exercise in the a.m. I have read in quite a few articles that a.m. is better all the way around to exercise. Helps keep metabolism up and helps you sleep better than if you exercise in the evenings! Glad to hear your hubby is doing so well. please keep us updated on your mum! Hang in there sweetie it will get better in time i'm certain! Connie
Hi All,
Sue-I've got BOXES of clothes I can't give away, some of them 20 years old and size 6! Talk about holding onto the past! I figure they'll be back in fashion someday.
And I can't even go try on new clothes without going into a major funk for days. My in-laws (now referred to as my out-laws) took us on a cruise over Christmas... the kind where they have "formal" nights where you have to get decked out like a prom. I had to BUY new clothes (thanks for the gift) so I went to my favorite odd lot store and tried on scads of outfits... they all looked awful (to me) but I managed to find the required two outfits. I was in such a state that I picked a fight with my poor husband and cried and cried when I got home. Clothes are a hot button for me. I congratulate you on even being able to get all four on much less finding one which might work.
Allison-What's glandular fever? It sounds serious! And great for you on the exercising! That's my biggest resistance. I just hate it and it hurts (I have Fibromyalgia) and it's usually boring and I don't have time and blah blah blah. I don't mind if I'm doing something constructive and it is also exercise though. Even though I know it's not, exercising for exercising's sake just feels like wasted time. I keep thinking about all the stuff I have to do.
So here's a question... I had a frozen dinner last night... Ethnic Gourmet Chicken Tandoori with Chicken. The box says 170 calories for one box which is one serving. The CC site says it's 330 cals for the same. That's quite a difference! Of course I used the box in my food log
but has anyone had this happen or heard of it happening?
Have a great Thursday! Jenny
Hey gang,
Alison, 'glandular fever' hmmm sounds like a Brit term for something we Yanks would know if we heard our term for it...Mono? it is in the glands...? Well WHATEVER it is I'll keep pulling for her! fever of any kind is no fun! BTW, what kind of cancer does your Mum have? You may have said before, but a quick scan didn't discover it. Glad to hear hubby is doing well, he is walking now not running?
Jenny, indeed I have had that happen several times! Sometimes it is that the company has two different sizes of the same product, sometimes it is just an old listing for a now revamped product, and sometimes I guess it is just a goof! I know that because of the way the feds require calorie posting, companies sometimes can 'shave off' a few calories (100 calorie popcorn is actually 110 calories, but because 10 cal are indigestible roughage they can call it 100 calories, but CC calls it 110) BUT that would not account for such a large difference. So I go with the box, it seems safer to me.
As for the clothes discussion: I have pulled out several oldies but goodies that I could not throw away, feels good to wear what fits! But I have found that my wardrobe is steeply limited by the fact that I have a closet full of work pants that LITERALLY fall off when I put my hands into my pockets!
It is hard to be mad about that! So, I have bought a few things as the end of season sales have gotten good. First time in a LOOOONNNNGGGG time shopping for me was any fun at all.
Gotta run...this is a week when I have something important going on every night!....but the best is Thursday when my eldest daughter gets back from college in Texas! ![]()
Alylou
Thanks for the welcome.....and the feedback, ladies. Yes, was surprised at how much came off in first week or so, but will aim to keep my intake around 1300-1400 moving forward. I really want to enjoy as much food as possible and still lose weight gradually, so no point in denying myself unnecessarily, ha ha.
jennytu - bermuda weather is misbehaving right now, unseasonably cool and windy with a high of around 70! But before long we will be complaining that it's too hot and humid..
On a tangent....I am attending the Preakness (horse-racing) in Baltimore this weekend (corporate hosp. for my husband's job) and know nothing about it...anyone familiar with the event / area??
Thanks,
Susan
suzenf-I know that at the Kentucky Derby, women are all judged on their hats. For some reason women's hats are a big deal. Like dresses at the Oscars. Did you Google it? Baltimore has a very nice aquarium if you have any off-time.
alylou-wow, I'm jealous! They fall off??
Jenny - yes I guess I need to go hat shopping tomorrow....my old floppy beach hat would probs look very out of place :)
I am a quite motivated this evening though....just bought a plain black linen dress (still a size large, mind you) but it actually fit okay. My weight tends to be more in the belly and bum area and therefore I am normally more imbalanced in my clothing, i.e. large top, but then need extra large for the bottom, and I often look horrible in dresses. Therefore excited to see that I must have lost an inch or two as well as the pounds. Have been trying to add 20-30 mins walk into my daily schedule - does exercise contribute more to "inches" lost than just cutting cals? Also, just added my cals for the day and I have brought it up to 1370...
Susan
Jenny, I had bought a couple of size 14 pants...I gave them away some time ago, but I have several size 12 pants that frankly I need in my wardrobe! but they really don't work: if I shove my hands into my pockets they slide down and, if i keep shoving, will come all the way off. Belts help but kinda mess up the "look". Silly me, I can't believe I can find something to complain about!
suzen, I believe we try to dress up as fancy for the triple crown races as the Brits do for the Ascot horse race. Look up on the web...maybe Google images, and you will get the idea of what is worn.
Youwho!?! Connie, How are you doing? and you too Alison? Skin and ..Sue where are ya'll? Must be a busy time for all!
Alylou
Corporate weekend in Baltimore starts tomorrow....includes a baseball game and the horse-races. Guess my willpower is going to be tested big time! Wish me luck....will be happy if i manage to maintain, not gain :) Not scheduled to weigh myself again until Tuesday, so fingers crossed. Have a great weekend everyone!
Suzenf-Sue: Good luck on your test!
Alylou-Real Name??: I aspire to be you with pants falling down... is it tonight your daughter comes home?
Veganmamma-Alison: how's your daughter feeling? and everyone else too?
Skn6131-Sue: did you find a dress?
justamom-Sue: Is it still nice and cool in AZ?
webbgalarza-Sandy: How are you doing? Did you say 5 kids??
cantlose-Connie: How are the kitties?
I've tried to include everyone but man, it's hard to keep up! A lot of Sues! Did I get everyone's name right? And I KNOW I've left someone out... if it's you - sorry!
I had a great day today! Will-powered my way through a breakfast meeting where everyone else (all skinny-no fair) was eating CB Hash and big Pecan Pancakes! I had a poached egg on dry ww toast! The trick was to order without looking at the menu and order first so I don't hear what everyone else is having. Lowcaloriscious!! Yea!
HI EVERYONE! SADLY ONE OF THE KITTIES DIED THIS A.M. IT WAS THE RUNT OF THE GROUP BLESS ITS LITTLE HEART. OOPS sorry just realized I was "talking LOUD" LOL It's been a dreary week here and then the kitty so i guess i'll have to live through you guys this weekend...sounds like most of you are in for fun!!! YIPPPEEEE for you!! I feel so much like having an " I got the blues gigantic bowl of icecream" BUT I will try and refrain
Be sure and tell me about the fun parts of your weekends so that i will be too busy reading to splurge on FATTY yummies ok? I'm still stuck in the plateau 137 spot/zone/hell.....bet if I ate the icecream I could remedy THAT situation huh????
....I better shut my mouth 'cause I'll gain just joking about it!!!
Anyway enjoy the weekend ladies and keep smiling....WE ARE ALL DOING WELL!
Connie
Oh how sad!
Hi all-
Loved the input on keeping old clothes... and glad I am not the only one that still had some hanging around!!!
Suzen - The Preakness; I am sooo envious. Have a blast. I have the same clothing fit dilemma. I am definitely a bit on the pear shaped side of the coin!!!
Jennytu - Dress - glad you asked... I had my stand-by dress at home, but I went off to the thrift shop today and found one that should fit the bill and only $10 (it was 1/2 off). What a bargain.
Connie - I am soo sorry to hear you lost one of the kitties. Yesterday was the same for me too. My last mare that was overdue lost her baby during delivery. He was just huge and I couldn't pull him myself. Went to the house and got my husband and even the two of us couldn't get him out. Called my brother who drove over and also brought a come-along (winch type of device). We did get the baby out but too late - he was gone. Definitely breaks your heart. I contacted my vet to find out if they had any orphan foals with their clients and they brought over a 10day old warmblood filly who's dam rejected her. We rubbed a baby blanket on the foal we lost and the placenta then put it on the filly. Momma perked right up and was completely smitten at first sight. Time will tell how it will go, as the filly has never really had the chance to nurse (drinks formula from a bucket) but they took the mare home with them and will try and switch the little orphan over to her "new mom". Hopefully there will be a happy ending to a very sad event. You know that saying... where one door closes another opens!
I definitely have that "gigantic bucket of icecream blues" type of feeling too. Looking forward to having my nephews wedding tomorrow as a pleasant distraction from the events of this week!!! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I promise not to be sooo morose next week. It HAS to be better!!

Oh - poor little kitty. Poor you ![]()
My daughter is a lot better - thanks to all who asked. I guess being 14 helps you bounce back fast!! She's nagging me to go kickboxing again but doc has said she shouldn't do anything for at least another couple of weeks. She's going to go nuts or drive me crazy!!
Mum is holding up well too so things are a lot calmer here.
Exercise is still going well - I'm really getting in to it now - first thing in the morning really sets me up for the day. I do a blend of cardio and weights 6x a week and am still not noticing it on the scales but have lost about 1" off my waist, 1" off my tum, 1/4" off "chicken wings!!!" and the same off my legs.
What's planned for the weekend?? Well, listen to my son (nearly 21) tell me all about his job - trainee chef (gosh - they put fat in everything!!) Try to convince my eldest (22) to take some time off work and come and visit
. Get some inspiration from my youngest son (nearly 18) who is about to start a course (he wants to train to be a PE teacher or personal trainer)
and draw with my daughter (14) - we're "designing clothes" - but my drawing sucks so we'll have to see LOL
Also, probably cuddling on the coach with my other half
SknSue-Oh double sad ![]()
Nice that you found a baby your mare can love. I bought an ex-brood mare in 1997, she was part of a herd reduction. I found out when we picked her up that she had lost a baby a couple of months before I got her. I bred her a year later and her whole personality changed after she got pregnant. In hind sight I'm SURE she had been depressed and having another baby gave her some sort of redemption or something. It was amazing.
Alison-so glad there's some healthy calm in your family again. Enjoy that couch!
My plans for the weekend are... Annual Town Meeting tomorrow morning presenting my Recreation Commission's budget request to the residents who then vote yea or nay. Very old style of governing. Everyone gets their say and there's a few old timers who always have to say something about everything. Then we're hosting a party in the afternoon for my daughter's volleyball team and their families... I'm doing a "no rain" dance.
Sunday I'm going to collapse.
Hi my friends! Hope all is well in your worlds. Things are calm here today. I didn't eat the gigantic bowl of icecream and went down a lb for whatever reason...(maybe tears) water weight! I wanted to tell you all about this site that I go to every a.m. to make me laugh. It is mostly CATS (of course) but lately there have been other animals too but it's pictures and people have written in captions (as they think cats would say it) and it is most always funny or precious. It is called I can has cheezeburger just go there and see if you don't smile when ur feeling blue! Skn I am so sorry for your loss, it seems we keep going in close to the same emotional places! All will brighten up for us now...right???
Of course it will! Everybody enjoy yourselves with family, hubbies and friends this weekend.....I think I'm just going to rest and be peacefully "alone" with my five PURRfect children! Must go and have my weight control oatmeal and banana!!!!   ; Connie![]()
