| spirochete to cyclists: I HATE YOU. I hate you so much and I hate your next 15 generations | ||
| Jun 25 2008 03:29 | ||
I hope your bikes melt down and your little helmets crack and and you lose a bike seat up your butt. Do you ride on the bike path RIGHT NEXT TO THE STREET? HELL NO! You ride right in the street and hold up traffic. Do you ride single file as traffic goes by? HELL NO! You ride in pairs while blocking traffic and we're all at your mercy driving at bicycle speed for miles on end. Do you ride in a responsible manner? HELL NO! You cry that you have just as much right to the street as I do in my car yet you run EVERY SINGLE stop sign, turn without signaling and whatever illegal maneuvers you can think up while wearing a Doritos branded spandex team shirt. I seriously hate cyclists so much. |

Grrr indeed...downtown Vancouver is terrible for tourist cyclists who rent bikes, and street people who have "acquired" bikes...they don't wear helmets, they don't follow traffic rules or even good road sense...a few I have seen ( and nearly hit) travelling towards me in my car lane, one the wrong side and going the wrong way up the one-way. Like right towards me for a head-on collision. We generally have to slow right down, practically stop, to wait for them to casually swerve out of the way. Like ducks crossing the road. I just want to reach my hand out the car window and grab their neck and wring it and yell "YOU ARE GIVING ALL CYCLISTS A BAD NAME AND MAKING IT THAT MUCH HARDER FOR US TO GET RESPECT ON THE ROAD YOU MORONS!!!" |

Do you have the same problem with tractors that take up most of the road and don't go anywhere near the speed limit?
Nearly all tractors are more than capable of doing the speed limit nowadays. I know mine is, but when i'm carting 18 tonnes of bales behind me, i would much rather drive slowly and be in a better position to stop quickly should the be a need to, than go bombing down the road and trying to emegancy stop only to have those extra 18 tonnes pushing me into the back of a car full of passengers. |

I had forgotten a type of cyclist I hate and coming home today I saw 2 of them so I was wondering if anyone else had them: The shopping trolley cyclist. You will recognise these particular creatures by their erratic wobbling as they navigate the world with one hand on the handlebar and the other on their shopping trolley filled hauling their recyclables around. They have absolutely no regard for the rules of the road whatsoever, and one today was biking the wrong way down a one way street, blocking an entire lane of traffic. They switch between road and pavement with gay abandon and ne'er a thought for other people on the street. Get in their way and a litany of foul language will be hurled in your direction; they will perhaps even remove their one hand from the handlebars to give you the finger. The same type of abuse will be thrown at you if you refuse to let them into your gated community to raid your recycle bins. I would happily see each and every one of them drawn and quartered. |

I have never seen this species of cyclists. We only have the corporate sponsored spandex ones.

There are also those tricyclists out there.
Little menaces. They should get off the road. |

Ahh, see you've got it all wrong. I despise the cyclists described in this thread and I can't even drive. Your point about being hit/badly injured/killed on a bicycle just supports the cause even more. If there is a possibility that you might be killed when you break the rules, doesn't it make more sense to, I don't know, obey the rules? When a cyclist goes head to head with a car, 999,999 times out of a million the cyclist is going to lose. Why the hell would the cyclist do everything in their power to make that eventuality happen? I want cyclists to show a little self preservation. It's a shocking concept, I know. |

| You Nazi car drivers are going to have to accept the fact that bicycles are allowed and often times required to use the road since it is illegal to ride on the sidewalks. Get over it. | ||

Original Post by gmule: You sir, are the most obstinate, pigheaded, cantankerous person that I have have ever encountered. Your ability for selective reading is quite phenomenal, and I am getting a sneaking suspicion that you're exactly the type of cyclist that has been detailed in this thread. I get it, cyclists can do no wrong in your eyes - clearly, as soon as you get on a bike you are granted your wings and the rules of the road no longer apply to you. I'm surprised you can even see cyclists through the glare of their halos, let alone hear them over the harps. Anyhow, as part of the other contingent - you know, everyone else in the world - I need to go file down my horns before I start the day. |

In post 14 I replied that I agree with the op and previous posters have said about scofflaw bicyclist. I also call those cyclist organ donors. Then the thread degenerated into a bunch of whining about bikes on the path bikes on the road taking the lane making left turns from the left turn lane all the way to what a cyclist wears. I see bicyclist and motorist doing wrong things all the all time. Natual selection will take care of those cyclist and motorist who make bad decsions. unfortunatley those bad motorist decisions kill other people. Do I wear spandex ? Yes I do on really long rides that are going to be over 50 miles. Most of the time I am crusing around in what ever I happen to be wearing at the time. So does that make a good or bad cyclist? I can say that I have never been hit by a car. I have avoided a few collisions by remaing alert and paying attention to what is going on around me. I am pretty lucky that most of the drivers where I live are pretty decent to cyclist and give us plenty of room. |

Original Post by gmule: The whole thread was a place to vent about cyclists and how much they suck and are hated. There are about 50 pro-cyclists threads around CC. Go find one of those. Have you fallen off your tricycle one too many times? Is this too hard of a concept to grasp or something? It's a thread venting about cyclists. Get over it.
