5'5" and 160 lbs....looking to lose 40 lbs....anyone with similar goals?

I joined calorie count about 2 weeks ago and so far I've lost 4 lbs only to gain back 2 lbs. Yell This is the heaviest I've ever been....not sure how I let myself gain so much weight. But now is the time to lose it and get back to my ideal weight. I'm looking for people with similar goals so we can motivate each other and swap diet/excercise tips!

mor125:  First off ... thanx!  : )

My calorie goal is 1200 a day.  I'll push it to 1400 if I did a really hard workout and need the extra food (which doesn't happen a lot).  You can go into the "Tools" section and put in your number and it will tell you how many calories you burn just living and how many calories you should be eating to lose X amount of weight a week.  1200 calories is the lowest you should go!

I'm not sure how much of a number person you are.  But if you look at all the numbers and take into account that 3500 calories = 1 pound you can fine tune your goals of intake and exercise.

Hi There...I just joined this minute. I'm 5'3 and 150. Would like to loose 25-30 lbs. I just feel better when I don't have that extra weight on me, and I have more energy. I lost about 35 lbs 2 years ago (via the use of Meridia drug), and I kept it off for about a year and 1/2. Then I started to gain again, and I don't want to take Meridia for the rest of my life. I had absolutely no harmful side effects and it did work, but after a while the body gets used to it and it does not work as good. I'm going to try the old fashion way, and I'm sure it will work.

Can we try and motivate eachother? Thanks, LEGV

hey all!

i'm new to caloriecount like fifteen minutes ago! i'm 5'4 and 154lbs ("slightly overweight" according to caloriecount.com) and over the past three years i've gained 30lbs! (damn college Yell) but i'm still not to the weight i was senior year in high school. it was then when i started monitoring my food intake so i wouldn't negate the exercise i got from sports. in total, over the course of my senior year in high school i dropped from 169 to 125lbs! i would like to make a similar transformation now although its harder since i have a job 10hrs a day/5 days a week and no coach or teammates to push me to get off my bum after work.

my target weight is 135lbs (i.e. lose ~20lbs) by late august.
please help me! i wanna look good for my last year at uni!

Welcome legv and ishkabibbles!  We are totally here to help motivate and support eachother!

So one of my goals for this week was to work out every day.  No biggie, right?  Except it totally didn't click in my head I'm leaving Thursday night for my trip to Boston, MA!  So I decided that I could still "technically" reach my goal.  I'll be walking around A LOT taking in the sights of the city.  And I've talked my friend into going golfing one day.  SUCCESS!!!  Lol.  I've just gotta watch my food intake hardcore!  Lucky it's summer time and you can usually get fruit salads or reg salads everywhere!  Except when we go to China Town.  Hmmm, that one's going to be tricky.  Any suggestions?

hey randomlife!  good job on the boston trip! great way to be creative to maintain your goal and still have fun with your friends!

yeah, china town will be tricky.  there are lots of carbs in the cuisine.  so the best bet would be to get steamed fish for the main course, but watch out for what time of sauce it comes in.  soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and vegetable oil type sauces should be ok, but when it comes down to sweat and sour or fancy, thicker sauces, i would be careful.  also, chinese restraurants can tend to be a little salt heavy, even with their vegetables, so you could ask the waiter if they could go easy on the salt.  watercress and bokchoy tend to have simpler preparations that may help with limiting unnecessary calories while still being very yummy.  also, i'd be careful with the tofu.  just because its tofu doesn't mean it doesn't come packing with a lot of hot oil and its probably fried (steamed is best).

best way to get some delish chinese food i would recommend is make a compromise with the dumplings (the soup dumplings rock!) and the more 'healthier' dishes by going family style with friends, so you're eating less automatically.  also, filling your bowl or plate with what you're going to eat in that round before eating will help keep track of the servings.  i know i tend to just shovel it in from this dish or that dish without knowing that i've probably had four servings of this and another four of that.

oh and there should be plenty of fruit vendors around (LOVE asian pears!) if you need something to take the edge off right before you eat so you don't just go crazy when all that yummy steamy food arrives at the table.

hope that helps!

hmm...i should probably lower my calorie intake then since i don't excercise much. so if i wanna lose 2 lbs/week thats 7000 calories to burn a week. i burn a little over 2000 calories daily just living. so if i eat 1,300 calories/day thats cutting out 700 calories a day which equals out to 4,900 calories a week. 7000-4900 = 2,100 calories to get rid of by excercising. 2,100 / 7 = 300 calories to burn daily at the gym. i think thats definitely possible. or i can even skip some days at the gym and just stay longer to make up for the lost day(s).

do you find it hard to stick with 1,200 calories/day randomlife219? on those days i eat 1,200 i'm starving and am soo tempted at night to eat more. ok so im going to start pre-planning my meals on a daily basis so i'll always be prepared and never stuck eating junk because theres nothing else around.

Breakfast: maple brown sugar oatmeal (low sugar) - 120 calories

    banana - 105 calories

Lunch: noah's bagel cranberry bagel - 320 calories

Snack: apple - 100 calories

Dinner: (10) dumplings - 500 calories

= 1,145ish calories (i'm sure im undercalculating somewhere)

good tips ishkabibbles! you know your chinese foods! ;p

Thanks for the advice ishkabibbles!  I've never had an Asian Pear before.  I'll so get me some!  Lol.

mor125:  It depends on what I eat.  I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast (maple and brown sugar ROCKS!)  Lunch is usually chicken and veggies.  And dinner is always a little tricky because of hubby.  With just my breakfast and lunch, I'm at a little over 400 calories.  Some days I don't need snacks, but when I do I have natural or sugar free applesauce because they are the same calories (50!) or Dannon Lite and Fit Yogurt (60).  So I still have over half of my calories for dinner.  Enless I work out hardcore, then I usually have an instant breakfast (about 210).  Either way, I set myself up to have a decent sized dinner.

The "runners diet" from Runners World says that your diet should be 50% carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat.  Usefull guideline if anything.

Hope this helps!

mor: haha thanks!  i've got a life time of experience! Wink oh and i was wondering if you could help me calculate how many calories i have to burn via exercise per day outside of what i burn just living (lol) to reach my goal (around 2lbs/week)?  according to caloriecount i burn 2000 on a typical day and i need to eat 1230 calories. so yeah. help? i was never good at math...

randomlife: your welcome! lemme know how you like 'em!

randomlife219: thx for the info! it does help to see what other ppl are eating to lose lbs. instant oatmeal works really good cause it has so little calories but it fills you up! i think i'm the same...i get majority of my calories from dinner. its easy for me to be good all day long but its always night time that gets me in trouble. the chances of me going a little crazy with food is higher. haha. have fun in boston! :)

ishkabibbles: so if you want to lose 2 lbs/week, thats 3,500 x 2 = 7000 calorie deficit by eating less or excercising. you're eating 1,230 daily, 2000 - 1,230 = 770. 770 x 7 = 5,390 calories already taken off. 7000 - 5,390 = 1,610 calories you need to burn by excercise all week. 1,610 / 7 = 230 calories you have to burn daily at the gym.

mor: you're so talented! thanks Cool

I am 5'5 210 pounds. I've gained 7 of the pounds I lost back. I'm trying not to look at the scales so much. I know I am losing inches, because people keep commenting on how much thinner I look an my closes fit better,  but the scales to do show it. I am trying to lost 30 pounds, 40 if possible so that I can have a baby and it not jepordize my health any. My goal weight is 150 pounds, I haven't weight that much since my senior year in high school, I am now 33. This is truley a challenge.

So instead of exercising yesterday, I read my new book (Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward - vampire romance - SHE IS AMAZING!).  And instead of working out this morning, I packed.  Ugh.  I really have to kick myself in the @$$ about working out every day!  Changing my diet is nothing compared to being motivated to work out everyday!  *sigh*

I am 5'5 and at one point i was up to 210. I am now down to 151 and am still trying to get down to 120-125. I hate the treadmill to. I joined this gym that has dance classes and that is a great way to burn calories and have fun doing it. Maybe you should try something like that (just an idea).

Hey guys...I just joined up and I saw that we are all in the same boat : ) I'm 5'5" and 158, I have recently gotten over a knee surgery and have started hitting the gym and eating healthy again, I was 170ish about 2 months ago. Thought talking to people would help, since i think I've hit a plateau. Also, I see there is a fellow vampire novel reader...hehe. I LOVE Kim Harrison if you need a new book to read in the near future...

ishkabibbles: no problem :)

i've never heard of vampire romance before. sounds interesting though! i was totally going to quit using cc and stopped logging in my calorie intake for a few days cause it seemed like a lost cause.

but then i went to borders and started looking around the motivational diet books and got "the secrets of skinny chicks." its pretty good so far. it doesn't really talk about what to eat or how to excercise because i think i already know what im suppose to be doing. its more of a mental thing for me though. it talks about eating when you are actually hungry and stopping before you get full.  i realized the majority of the time that i'm eating it's because its time to eat, people around me are eating, or i'm just bored and trying to avoid doing what i'm really suppose to be doing. anyway, it's sort of obvious that you're not suppose to eat when you're not hungry and stop before you're full, but i think i've kind of forgotten all that and i always tend to just clean my plate b/c its soo good or out of habit.

goal of the week: 60 minutes of cardio 5x this week

welcome prettymess and bertanny86! we're here to help!

*ugh*  I so did not follow any kind of "diet" while I was away.  Wait, that's not true.  I followed the "vacation diet" of eat whatever, whenever, and how much ever you want!

I so did not want to step on the scale.  But I did ... and I gained 2 lbs.  Ick.  I'm hoping it's just my body not liking all the junk I ate and come Monday morning it will at least be back down to 173.

So guess who is going to be working out hard core this week?  Me!  And it will def be inside, with my AC on high!  The heat index for today is 106 degress!  THAT'S INSANE!!!

mor125:  We all get like that sometimes.  I know I do!  That book sounds really good.  Let me know how it is!

Hi ladies!

I have a pretty good tip for when you go out to eat or go out on a vacation, especially when you order something unhealthy... Ask for a box when they bring you your meal and box half of it up immediately or eat until you are full and as soon as you are full put all the trash on the table on your plate, this prohibits senseless eating after you are "done".

I have been a overeater for a long time...you know the kind. Eat so much you have to nap afterwards. But lately, I've been really good about this. Keep up the good work :)

prettymess: FOOD COMAS!  i know exactly what you mean.  i used to pass out all the time after eating out. especially with the rents.  we're all big eaters... haha. and when we're together it's like some sort of hive mind surivival of the chubbiest.  a mindset i'm trying hard to get out of...but 21 years of training are hard to break.  i feel you on the recovery thing though.  i have this bronchial spasm thing i'm trying to get over, which makes it hard for me to work out, especially in the heat--at least that is what i tell myself when i get winded... Tongue out

randomlife: good luck with the working out!  i totally feel you on the slipping this past weekend though.  at least you were on vacation!  i was just home with the rents and, yeah, they don't like to hear no.  they give me the sad face for why i'm not eating the food they make me (lovely carb food of course --> CHINESE!!!) so i eat it...  but i'm sure you'll work it off in no time!  i unfortunately haven't been able to get off my bum since friday!  i've already lost my drive and it was less than a week!!! i just choose to nap instead of working out...

any suggestions?

mor: vampire romance novels are the best! i've never heard of the ones that randomlife and prettymess suggested, but i used to crave laurell k. hamilton's novels.  well, before they became hard core orgy books.  it's hard to respect the main character when she's basically screwing all the males (conveniently blamed on a twisted vampire-bonding side effect...) multiple times a day and sometimes in multiples...  but the books were addictive until #9 or so. lemme know how the skinny chicks book turns out!

haha and has anyone stepped onto a Wii fit lately and had a VIDEO GAME tell you you're overweight?  because i have. it's sad... Cry

ishkabibbles:  Wii Fit blew up my Mii into a huge marshmellow!  I was crushed!!!  That thing is HARSH!!!  Hard core, don't care about your feelings, harsh!  If it wasn't so much fun, I'd say it was evil!
