I'm so happy that there are so many responses to this question. And im even happier that people are so honest and open as to why they chose to well... take the journey. Whether your trying to just be healthier, or fit into your bathing suits, im loving the fact that i got the answers i did.

To answer my own questions;

I am 19 turning 20 soon.

What motivates me to loose the weight, I'm not gonna lie is the desire to fit into a bathing suit, and walk down a beach without feeling self conscious. But I'm mostly doing this because ive heard the words " and she was with this really fat girl." that was my breaking point. yep. that was it. never in my life have i been the "really fat girl. I was always the chubby girl. or the fat girl. but NEVER have i been called "the really fat girl".

Ive lost 20-22 pounds depending on the day, I started in january at 181 pounds and depending on the day lately im 159-161 ive been that way for a little over a month ( only myself to blame)

I've been on the site since january 29th. i started with someone, and theyve lost pretty much the same amount as me.

AND TO BE HONEST I DONT CARE WHO COMES HERE!!! lol I WAS LOOKING FOR A CENTER OF YOUNGER PEOPLE.

and like i said ... i think its amazing the amount of people who responded to this.

I'm happy there are people my age who have some type of weight loss goals besides me.

and now, FOR MORE QUESTIONS!

:)

Does anyone have a cheat day? do you feel guilty afterward?

I'm having a hard time with mine, its on sundays, i eat so much i get sick, and also gain the weight back ive lost through the week, which is usually like a pound.... So when i gain that poind back i feel bad.... i was so proud of that measley little pound!!!

Which leads me to my next question.

Has anyone here resolved to limit an exercize regimine untill they've lost more weight?

I walk to and from work ( not too far) i clean my house, take the sairs at work, and i stand at work all day so its not like im sedentary but im wondering if i should do cardio and stuff besides that to burn cals..... anyone?

Peace,Love, and happiness,

sweetness.

From what I've read about you all,

a lot of you seem to be on the right track.

But there's a few of you that just cant seem to stop.

I know I'm not perfect

but I'm going to be honest.

There are those of you who are dropping WAY below an appropriate weight for your age, and probably your height as well.

The goal is to be healthy, not model skinny.

The point is to be at a point where you are fit,

no the point where you can fit into a size zero, because to be really honest,

its unhealthy, and unrealistic.

Its a fact.

the two most bought sizes in jeans in this country are 0, 12, and 16.

what does this say?

its a fact.

The desire to look like models have driven CHILDREN under the age of 10 to diet under no duress. This is unnacceptable because their bodies havent even finished GROWING yet. People under the age of 21 should not try to be under their BMI reccomended weight because of dangers of malnutrition, which decreases potential of body development and growth.

I appreciate honesty. And i maintain that I am not judging any of you, because it is SO easy to control weight, and become obsessed with it. I'm just saying its necessary to be carefull. I understand if you are naturally at a body weight that is low, that is through no fault of your own.

If you dont believe me, read up on it. READ , learn what being too skinny can do to you.

Wow there are a lot of people! That's awesome!

To answer the newer questions..

*Of course I have a cheat day.  It's usually due to social situations.  I have a really great group of friends when I'm home from college, who all love salty sweet bad for you foods.  Usually I'm fine, but sometimes I break.

But something new I've found is that I don't feel guilty afterwards.  Usually I try to anticipate the extra calories by cutting out snacks earlier in the day.  Also, I saw a celebrity on television one day (of course I forget who!) who was beautiful and skinny and was asked about her diet.  Her answer was "I've found that I fail at eating a good diet if I get too stressed out.  For example, I ate a chocolate sundae on the plane today, I'm not going to stress out about it-that removes all the joy out of the sundae in the first place.  I'm going to enjoy the fact that I ate it, and move un with a healthy lifestyle."  I thought this was a good way to live.

*Exercise is actually a huge part of my weight loss plan.  If you couldn't tell from the username, I play the flute- it's actually my major and future profession.  Part of what scares me about "diets" in the first place is the chance that I might feel too weak and hungry to play my instrument.  I avoid that by eating tons of protein but I also do a lot of cardio in order to strengthen my lungs.  I find it helps make the weight loss more steady as well!

21 here! whoop whoop!

Does anyone have a cheat day? do you feel guilty afterward? Oh dear...Actually, I cheat a little almost every day, so I don't have one picked out in particular to go crazy on. In the evening I'll usually have a 1/2 cup of 90 cal frozen vanilla yogurt, and if there is any, a small piece of cake to go with it...I don't really feel guilty about it, but of course I know I could have eaten something much better for me instead Innocent

Has anyone here resolved to limit an exercize regimine untill they've lost more weight? Uughh...Well, I seem to have a really hard time sticking to any kind of exercise routine. My son just keeps going and going, so I get a pretty good daily work-out just trying to keep him out of stuff Tongue out I also spend some time here and there on my Leg Magic thinger...I seriously need to kick my butt into shape on that issue, haha.

Well, I just turned 18 last Saturday.
I just think being thin is beautiful, but my current motivation is my upcoming prom/graduation/etc.
& yeah, I've lost over 70 pounds & still going.
hmm, not really sure how long I've been here. I think I registered long before I started posting, but I'm not really sure.
& yessss, I have cheat days. 3 out of the past 4 days have been cheat days, actually. It just all happened to work out that these big dinners I had to be at were all around the same time. I don't feel guilty because they were deliciousssss! =] haha. No, but I really see no point in being guilty because I know I'm gonna get right back into a healthy diet & even if I gained like a pound [which would definitely be the most gain possible since I didn't go completely crazy calorie-wise] it's not the end of the world & I'll just lose it for this week. no harm done

Hello there,

I am 21.

* what motivates you to loose the weight ? My husband comes from a family full of girls that are all thinner than me. The worst part is that they aren't on strict diet and exercise regimens, they are just healthy. I am going on vaction with them this summer and I want to feel comfortable in a bathing suit. I know that I am not fat, but I also know that I was about 20 lbs lighter than I am now before I went to college, and that I would be healthy and HOT if I could make it back to that weight.

* have you lost any yet? I only started weighing 2 weeks ago, but I am down from 150 to 144, so that is not too bad I figure.

* how long have you been on the site? About a month now.

As for the cheating, I usually eat cheat foods every other day, but I keep the portions small and only ever exceed my calorie target on weekends (I usually stay under target by about 100-200 calories on weekdays).

I am not holding myself to a strict regimin until I meet my goal, but I am taking bellydancing classes twice a week that will end at approximately the same time as my goal date. They are so much fun that I think I will continue even after I have reached my goal.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi, Im Hannah, im 18. What motivates me? Im the heaviest I've been (close to 160lbs, 5ft 11) and i wanna be slimmer, and feel more confident and comfortable in my clothes. I also just want to eat more healthily, and start exercising more often.

Has anyone got any good diet tips, healthy tasty foods they love?

So here's something interesting!

I was parusing(no idea if that was spelled right) through a myspace vid ... and stumbled upon....

healthy fast food!?!?! what?

and some interesting information about water bottles.

The vid url is: http://www.viropop.com/zaproot/episode/ZPR_20 080507

and the article with information about healthier fast food is....

In response to the question about waiting to exercise until you lose more weight, I think people often put off going to the gym until they feel like they look better to do it. I know a few people, including myself, who feel too out of shape to go to the gym and have to watch other people who are thin or ripped or just generally more physically fit than us barely breaking a sweat while we're struggling with trying to get back in shape.  Going to the gym makes me so self conscious, I put it off a lot and try to exercise and stay active another way until I feel fit enough to do it.

And cheat days.  Everyone has them.  Some of us just cheat more often than others.

lol I went to the gym today, its costly...so i was like... you expect me to pay WHAT?! for stuff i can do at home?!  and i really dont feel comfortable with men around to be really honest... i feel comfortable in my house, doing my own thing... men just kind of stare you down like little weird neanderthals... not to be sexist... but its true ... I'll just sit around with my wii fit and do it that way... also...

has anyone read the book skinny bitch? I've started reading it and its becoming more and more interesting...

i have found some holes in their schpeel on coffee... also on carbs. I find it interesting, and i would seriously suggest taking this book lightly because you will find yourself taken back within the first couple of pages.

I am 19, started on here when I was 18. I weighed in at 145 and am now around 118. I unfortunately was a victim to severe calorie restriction. Totally my fault from lack of education in nutrition and fitness. I tried the stop eating thing, bulimia and couldn't do it, Thank God. I was an exercise junkie for a while and am now having to find the will just to get my tennis shoes on lol. But I have learned so much from this website and even though I am bit obsessive about my weight and calories, it has helped me to lose some weight and learn about how to live a healthy lifestyle. I am young and this is a process....at least for me.

I looked at that book one time.  It gave me really good tips for drinking, actually.  Maybe I'll pick it up sometime.

Oh, and guys in the gym can be really scary.  It's good to have a membership because you paid for it and it forces you to go, but you really do feel like you're in a fishbowl.  I always tried to go at offpeak hours.  There's certain times of the day when it's seriously all moms... I found those most comforting.  Otherwise, I felt a lot like I was in a fishbowl.  Now I just run on my own, when nobody is in the little gym of my apartment complex.  It's a lot more comfortable than being ogled by 300 lb body builders.

Hi I am 19 as well. I just joined last week, but I've been using online calorie counters since March. I weighed 146 then and am now down to 129.

I got really motivated by my college. I'd never been the fat one in highschool, in fact I was generally one of the thinner ones, but in college I was by far on the upper end of the spectrum. It just  really started bothering me when spring hit and I started seeing everyone in their little outfits, now I can wear shorts comfortably. Also, I set a deadline for myself. My on and off best guy friend/more than that is in the Airforce and is coming home in July. I promised myself that I would be at 125 and toned when he gets backed since I know he'll be ripped from basic.

Excercise, well I've started running and I was embarrassed to go to the gym at first because I could barely do a mile without a break. Then I stopped caring, and just put on my headphones and didn't make eyecontact. Now I can run 4 miles without stopping and my goal is to do 9 by the end of the summer.

I generally don't do cheat days, I do cheat meals. If I know that I'm going to a barbecue I eat yogurt and fruit for breakfast. If I'm going to brunch I have a salad or smoothie for dinner. It ends up all balancing out in the end.

Hey!  I'm 21.

I just joined the site.  I changed my life 2 weeks ago and I've lost.. well the scale is not accurate but about 5 lbs.

I'm motivated by facebook photos.  And creating a better future for myself.  I just started to accept that I'd always be fat.  And I don't have to be.  I really feel that this is long-term baby.

Hey everyone! I fit in with this group--I turned 20 at the end of March.

What motivated you to lose weight--I was tired of being heavy, pretty much, and my roommate this past year was into eating healthy and going to the gym, so she was a good influence on me.

Have you lost any yet?--About 25 pounds! :-) I'm 5'2 and started at 150 (high weight of 155 at the end of freshman year of college, maybe a bit higher) and a size 9/11. Now I'm 125 and a size 5.

How long have you been on the site?--Since the end of January--I found it while looking up the calories for something!

Does anyone have a cheat day? do you feel guilty afterward?

Every day is pretty much a cheat day for me, haha! And yeah, I struggle with guilt, but I try to tell myself that as long as i stay under my burned calories, it's okay if some of those calories are in cookies/chocolate/etc! So I'd say that I don't really have a cheat DAY...I just try and make sensible choices but I don't deprive myself.

Has anyone here resolved to limit an exercize regimine untill they've lost more weight?

I go to the gym about four times a week and do weights plus about twenty minutes of cardio...sometimes I walk up to the gym and it's about a ten minute walk there and another ten minute walk back. I used to do more cardio but now I'm mostly focused on toning so I do weights about every other day. In addition I work as a hostess which means I'm on my feet for five-seven hours at my job, instead of sitting at a desk or something, so I get more activity in that way, too.

I'm 18.

I always had a weight issue in the back of my mind - it was a combination of comments from my parents, from this guy I liked back in junior year, the stick-thin thinness of other girls at university, which contributed to cycles of crash dieting, overexercising, and binge eating throughout my first year at uni. So, I gained probably 20-25 lbs. I finally cleaned up my act in the last few months before the semester ended, but I have another 20-25 lbs to go. (I want to get to a healthier weight in general).

Haha..great, just wrote like an essay. My motivation I guess is summer! It's bathing suit time..I need to get fit&toned..

I've probably lost 10 lbs, but not on CC.

I've been on this site since May 21st.

Usually I don't take a "cheat" day - I take a lot of pleasure in healthy foods. Whole wheat sandwich roll + hummus + lettuce + olives + pickles + tomatoes = mouthwatering goodness. Yum.

After taking a couple days off of running, I'm trying to ease back into it - I also do some weight lifting with different parts of my body every day.

im 23 if that helps!

hey! i'm 20 until september--and i just joined yesterday!

i'm motivated by how i look in my undies--i can dress to look much thinner than i am--but when i'm undressed, looking down is no fun.

just this week i've started going to the gym everyday, either before or after work--and amazingly enough, i've actually stuck with it for the entire week.

i don't know if i've lost any weight yet, i'm going to go buy a scale on my way home from work today...last i knew (a few weeks ago) i was around 143lbs and i'm 5'2".

At the beginning of my soph year at uni i was around 156, and did the South Beach Diet and my lowest weight was at 130--but i wasn't that small because I hardly worked out so i didn't shrink up, just lightened up.  Since then I've drifted back up to 140, but have been wearing the same size, because I've been working out somewhat regularly.

sooo my goal for the summer is to get under 130...so maybe we'll say 15 lbs in 3 months?  i absolutely believe going to the gym is essential for me--when i'm at home i don't push myself as much as i do when people are watching.  and as far as cheat days--i'm not really on a super strict regiment, just have a resolution to eat really healthily.
